Road Dogg Claims His Political Beliefs Blocked AEW Move

WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg has claimed that his political beliefs cost him an opportunity with AEW, though the specifics remain murky.

The claim emerged during a back-and-forth on X between Brian “Road Dogg” James and Dave Meltzer, which started after James commented that the AEW Tag Team Championships were “beneath” Austin and Colten Gunn.

In the middle of that exchange, James stated he was turned away by AEW specifically because of his political and core beliefs, adding that it happened in America. He went on to say he didn’t donate to or vote for Donald Trump, but questioned why he’d be penalized when AEW parent company owner Shad Khan had.

It’s worth noting he previously and publicly lobbied for a job with AEW back in 2022 after being released from his behind-the-scenes WWE role at the time, though that opportunity never materialized and James ended up returning to WWE shortly after, eventually becoming co-lead writer of SmackDown before leaving the company again earlier this year.

In a separate post, James went further, naming journalist David Bixenspan and claiming Bixenspan screenshotted one of his social media posts and used it to get his AEW opportunity canceled.

When Bixenspan responded that he had no idea what James was referring to, James backtracked, saying there must be a different David B. responsible instead.
