Sami Zayn’s run as Undisputed WWE Champion is reportedly drawing mixed feelings behind the scenes.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Zayn holding the title has been a heavily debated topic internally. When word of that debate first surfaced, there was pushback claiming everyone was thrilled with Zayn and that TKO was fully behind him.
According to the Newsletter, the reality is more complicated. Feelings about Zayn as champion are said to be mixed.
As for TKO, the report states that those at the parent company are not focused on smaller matters like who holds the title at any given moment. They are said to be more interested in bigger deals. That would leave TKO with no real opinion on Zayn’s reign, positive or negative.
Zayn won the Undisputed WWE Championship for the second time on the September 11 edition of SmackDown in Mexico City, beating CM Punk. His first reign began at Night of Champions, where he beat Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a triple threat match.
He retained the title against Kevin Owens on the September 18 SmackDown after Punk blasted Owens with the belt.
