Tony Khan moved AEW Redemption up an hour for one reason. He wanted the show off the air before midnight.
It worked. The July 26 pay-per-view from the Bell Centre in Montreal started at 7 pm ET and wrapped at roughly 11:55 pm ET. Recent AEW cards built off an 8 pm start had been pushing 12:30 or 1 am. Forbidden Door, a month earlier, ran until nearly 1 am ET.
Khan laid out the thinking on Roar Around The Ring ahead of Wednesday’s Dynamite.
My goal for the last one was if I start an hour earlier, I’m 100 percent sure I’ll be done before midnight Eastern, and I was. So, I thought that was great.
He was not only counting East Coast clocks.
That’s the goal. That’s all we need. I’m done before midnight Eastern and it’s before 9 pm on the West Coast. I think that’s great.
Run times have been a standing complaint from AEW fans, and Khan has addressed the criticism before. He has previously pointed to roughly three hours and 45 minutes as his target length for a main card.
The next pay-per-view will not test it either way. All In runs August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London, which pushes the US broadcast to an early afternoon start.
