CM Punk’s first world title defence is set.
Tonight’s episode of SmackDown opened with the reinstated General Manager Nick Aldis introducing the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
The Straight Edge Star cut a promo calling out a number of superstars including Sami Zayn, Gunther, Finn Balor, Royce Keys, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams, before Cody Rhodes came out.
After some friendly back and forth, Cody reminded Punk of their Raw After WrestleMania encounter, specifically that he had offered to give Punk a title shot whenever he asked.
The new WWE Champion did not hesitate to return the favor and made the same offer to Rhodes. Cody Rhodes named SummerSlam as his PPV of choice. Nick Aldis wasted no time in making the match official as the two shook hands.
Gunther made an appearance later in the show, demanding to be included in the SummerSlam title match. Aldis, however, only booked him and Sami Zayn for a tag team match against Punk and Cody for the Madison Square Garden edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
