John Cena is branching has signed a development deal with Leftfield Pictures (“Pawn Stars”) to develop unscripted reality TV shows, according to a report by Variety.
According to Cena, the first concept revolves “mostly around unknown individuals from all walks of life with compelling stories to tell.” Cena was inspired to create stories around real people because “there’s a lot more opportunity in reality to package lives the way they already are.”
Cena and Leftfield Pictures have several ideas in the works. “We have a few already in the pipeline, a few irons in the fire,” said Cena. There was no mention of Cena appearing on camera for the first show, but it’s an option in the future.
The developmental deal does not currently involve WWE, although there is an option for the company to participate in projects should they choose to.
Leftfield CEO Brent Montgomery described Cena as one of the “aggressive entrepreneurs looking for creative ways to reach new markets and tell compelling, unconventional stories” they typically work with.
