Becky Lynch Wins SmackDown Women’s Title At WWE Hell In A Cell

5

Becky Lynch is once again WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion. As seen at Sunday’s Hell In A Cell pay-per-view, Lynch beat Charlotte Flair to win the title for a second time.

Flair didn’t hold the title for long as the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair was able to beat Carmella and Lynch in a triple threat match to win the SmackDown Women’s Title at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center on the WWE Network.

Not only did that title win make her a seven-time champion but it also made her the record holder for most WWE PPV wins of any female superstar. Following the match, Lynch turned heel and attacked Flair to kick off their feud.

Flair could get her rematch for the title at the upcoming Super Show-Down pay-per-view event that takes place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia or the Evolution pay-per-view event that takes place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Long Island, New York at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Both of these events will air on the WWE Network.

Renee Young Gives Credit To Top WWE Executives For Rise To RAW Commentator

Renee Young continues to make the media rounds to talk about WWE promoting her from a backstage interviewer and pre-show host to being a full-time member of the announce team for their flagship show, Monday Night RAW.

After filling in Jonathan Coachman while he was on assignment two weeks ago, it was revealed last Monday that she would be a full-time commentator on the show by replacing Coachman to join Michael Cole and Corey Graves.

Young recently spoke with The Toronto Sun to talk about the accomplishment where she noted that this is a really cool opportunity and that her life has changed so much over the last six years with WWE. She added that to have this opportunity in front of her, she just wants to do the best job that she can do.

She also gave some high praise to top WWE executives including Cole, executive VP of Television Production Kevin Dunn, Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, as well as Executive VP of Talent, Live Events and Creative Triple H.

“Michael Cole has been there from literally the get-go,” Young said. “He’s somebody that I’ve leaned on many different times. He’s a great mentor, a great friend. Triple H is so open to new ideas and just seeing what people can bring to the table. He’s so great at helping people with the skill that they have and letting that flourish. The same with Stephanie McMahon. She’s been so great for all of the women in WWE to set them up for success. Kevin Dunn as well. He always makes time for me no matter what’s going on.”

Latest On Samoa Joe’s Status Heading Into WWE Hell In A Cell

1

For those who were concerned about Samoa Joe’s status heading into the Hell in a Cell event, fear not, he appears to be ready to go.

Last weekend, it was revealed that he missed WWE live events in Lubbock, TX and in Beaumont, TX. This led to WWE making the decision to have The Miz replace him in the headlining matches against WWE Champion AJ Styles at those shows. There was some concern at the time because he noted n a tweet at the time that he planned on working the whole Texas tour. He didn’t wrestle on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live but rather did a promo segment.

The former NXT Champion did make his return to in-ring competition on Saturday at a live event in Houston, TX at the Toyota Center. At this show, he lost to Styles in the main event.

Joe is slated to challenge Styles for the WWE Title at tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event in San Antonio, Texas at the AT&T Center on the WWE Network.

As a reminder, we will be providing live play-by-play coverage of this special later tonight. You can see our staff predictions here for the show.

Speaking with TalkSport.com, Jeff Hardy had this to say in anticipation of his first Hell In A Cell matchup, Jeff said he can’t wait to see what he can do in his first-ever Hell in a Cell match.

“Expect The Unexpected”

He promises that the encounter in the newly red Cell will be “memorable,” and that he intends to do “something that people won’t forget,” before stating, “I think my thoughts are too big for my size sometimes, but I’ve got a lot of good ideas of what I can do inside that structure and this Sunday is when we find what will happen.”

“It will be a very memorable Jeff Hardy match,” he declared, before adding, “Expect the unexpected.”

When thinking on the possibilities, Hardy said, “[…] when I found out I got really excited about it, like a youthful spark from a Jeff Hardy in his twenties. I never asked, but they sure are giving it to me, so we’ll see what happens.”

Daredevil Attitude

The anticipation for their caged confrontation has led Hardy to study the previous Hell In A Cell matches, with him observing that “Randy Orton has been in six or seven of them, which is crazy. He’s very familiar with the structure and I’m not, but I’ve got a lot of big ideas and I’m going to try and pull them off.”

As unforgettable as Jeff wants to make this match, let’s hope that the well-known daredevil doesn’t endanger himself in his attempts at making Hell In A Cell history.

Hell In A Cell takes place tonight and is available to stream on the WWE Network.

So who do you think is going to come away with a victory tonight? Randy Orton? Or Jeff Hardy?

Matt Hardy Retires, Thanks Fans (Video)

Matt Hardy appears Matt Hardy is retiring as a full-time active competitor. Hardy competed at Saturday night’s WWE live event from Corpus Christi, Texas. Afterwards, he posted a video on Youtube

“There’s been a lot of speculation for quite a while online if I’m going to be wrestling any longer or not, and WWE, fortunately, they let me fulfill all my advertised commitments,” Hardy said. “But tonight, here in Corpus Christi, this was the last advertised commitment I had. And I never say never, but tonight, here in Corpus Christi, is most likely the last time you’ll ever see Woken Matt Hardy in a WWE ring.”

Watch Matt Hardy announce his retirement:

Some fans are speculating that Matt Hardy is simply retiring his “Woken” character, but the ‘description’ of the above YouTube video clarifies that he is in fact stepping away from the ring.

“Thank you for letting me live my dream for 26 years, wrestling fans,” Hardy wrote. “I don’t necessarily wish it was this way, but it’s time to go home. Time to go home and be a father. Time to go home and be a husband. I did so much more than I ever imagined I would do. Thanks for making this incredible journey with me, ladies and gentlemen. I love you all.”

Team Xtreme

Matt Hardy debuted for the company as a teenager in 1994 before earning himself a contract in 1998. He would go on to great success with his brother, Jeff, as they would revolutionize tag team wrestling in legendary feuds against teams like The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian.

It has been rumoured that Hardy has been suffering from a serious back injury, so transitioning to a backstage role would not only protect him but allow him to continue to contribute to the industry he loves so much.

Although yet to be confirmed by the WWE, the implication is clear. Sadly, it appears that Matt Hardy’s stellar in-ring career has come to an end.

What are some of the most memorable Matt Hardy moments for you? Favorite matches, returns, or twists of fate?

The Undertaker Recalls Dangerous Moment Atop Hell In A Cell

1

The Undertaker recently spoke to WWE.com regarding the 20th anniversary of his Hell in a Cell match with Mick Foley. During the interview, Taker recalled just how much worse Foley’s second fall from atop the cage could have been.

Foley’s second fall was not planned and happened when the panel atop the cage gave way after Taker chokeslammed Foley onto it. According to Taker, he almost ended up falling through the cell roof as well.

Undertaker on Hell In A Cell 1998

“That could have been catastrophic,” Taker said. “I stepped off of the panel and onto the support bars. If I hadn’t had done that, we would have both gone through that together. So if you could imagine, if I had stayed on that panel, my weight would have probably been on him too. And then what happens? It’s a scary thought.”

Taker also mentioned he wrestled the match with a fractured ankle. Just getting to the top of the cage proved challenging.

“To be completely honest, I was like ‘crap, am I gonna be able to get up there?’ The answer was yes because I would have got up there. I don’t care how but I would have got up there. It was definitely an exciting way to start out a Hell in a Cell match, to start out on top.”

In previous years, MLW has run WaleMania on the Thursday of Mania week.

Promotion owner, Cout Bauer, also recently asked his followers on Twitter where they would like to see MLW run a show next.

For those unfamiliar with the Blues Brothers, it’s a hint that Chicago will be the next city MLW expands their territory into.

Major League Wrestling in 2018

It’s been an eventful year for Major League Wrestling. From 2002-04, the company produced 34 television shows in a period when alternatives to WWE were scarce.

Bauer would eventually go on to work in creative at WWE and MLW went on hiatus for 13 years. In the summer of 2017, however, Bauer promoted MLW “One Shot.”  The success of that event then led to them announcing they would run a more frequent schedule the next year.

MLW signed a television deal with BeIN Sports and began producing episodes of Fusion earlier this year. Full episodes of Fusion air on BeIN Sports on Friday nights and are posted to YouTube the following Saturday at 6 PM.

The episode which aired last night on the network and will be posted to YouTube later today features a two-ring steel cage War Games match.
