Shawn Michaels Returns To WWE RAW Next Week

3

Shawn Michaels is returning to WWE television at next week’s Raw from Columbus, Ohio at the Schottenstein Center. This will be the first appearance by Michaels since RAW’s 25th Anniversary special back in January.

The Heartbreak Kid will be at Raw next week to hype the upcoming showdown between Triple H and The Undertaker at WWE Super Show-Down. At one point, Michaels was rumored to be the special guest referee for the match. Triple H referenced Michaels in his promo on Raw last week, so it appears he could have some role at the Australian stadium show.

Legends Weigh In on Triple H vs. Undertaker

As seen on this week’s show, WWE aired a video package of various Hall of Famers giving their predictions for the Triple H vs. Undertaker match. Those WWE Legends included Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Mick Foley and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Christian. You can see the video below.

WWE Super Show-Down pay-per-view event takes place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia. It will air on the WWE Network.

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman Set For WWE Hell In A Cell

3

A new match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Hell in a Cell PPV. As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Toronto, Canada at the Scotiabank Arena on the USA Network, Braun Strowman announced that he would cash-in his Money in the Bank contract to get a match for the Universal Title against Roman Reigns at this show.

This has been the top storyline on the flagship show of the WWE, Monday Night RAW, that started at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center once Strowman came out and stated that he would cash-in his Money in the Bank briefcase after Universal Title match between then-champion Brock Lesnar and Reigns.

He was unable to get that chance as Lesnar took him out. This led to Reigns beating Lesnar to win the title. Moving along to the next night, Reigns successfully defend his title against Finn Balor in the main event. Once the match had concluded, Strowman attempted to cash-in but Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins prevented Strowman from cashing in his Money in the Bank title shot. This led to The Shield attacking the fan favorite superstar and power bombing him through the announce table.

The Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, September 16, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas at the AT&T Center and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.

WWE RAW Results & Live Discussion (8.27)

The August 27th edition of WWE RAW aired live from the ScotiaBank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

– WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns comes out to the ring to kick off tonight’s show. Reigns gets right to the point and says he’s here to defend his Universal Title, and then he calls out Braun Strowman. Strowman’s music hits and The Monster Among Men struts down to the ring with his Money In The Bank briefcase. Strowman confronts Reigns and calls him out for Rollins and Ambrose stepping in to gang up on him last week. Roman says his Shield brothers always have his back, and while Braun is lifting cars and stages, Reigns is lifting Championship belts. Reigns dares Braun to cash in his briefcase tonight, but Strowman says he’s not doing it tonight. Braun says if he did, his boys would come down and try to save him again. Braun says he’s going to make a deal – he won’t cash the contract in until September 16th. He says all Reigns has to do is show up to Hell In A Cell, so The Shield can’t interfere. Braun says he’ll see Reigns at HEll in a Cell and the crowd pops. Braun and Roman shake hands, but then Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre come out to interrupt. Ziggler complains about getting screwed over at SummerSlam, and then he and Drew call out Braun and Roman. They say Braun and Roman are their next challenges, because they’re at the top of the RAW roster. Baron Corbin comes out to interrupt and says he’s making the matches tonight. Corbin says he approves of Braun’s challenge to Reigns for Hell In A Cell. Corbin also books a tag match tonight: Ziggler & McIntyre vs. Strowman & Reigns. Corbin then walks down to the ring as everyone else heads to the back. Corbin gets back on the mic and says he’s going to make another match that Kurt Angle was too scared to make: Corbin vs. Finn Balor the man, not the demon.

Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin: The opening bell sounds and Corbin takes the fight to Balor in the corner early on, then decks him with a clothesline for a two count. Balor springboards to the apron to dodge a shot, but Corbin connects with an elbow to the head that knocks Balor to the floor. Back in the ring, Corbin stomps on Balor to keep him grounded. Balor breaks free and runs the ropes, then drops Balor with the sling blade. Balor follows up with a double foot stomp, then lays into Corbin with chops to the chest. Corbin misses a shot in the corner and Balor fires back with another sling blade. Balor looks for a running dropkick, but Corbin catches him and hits the Deep Six for a two count. Balor comes back with a clothesline and knocks Corbin to the outside, and Balor follows up with a suicide dive over the top rope. Corbin reaches for a steel chair, but Balor stops him and throws him back in the ring. Balor misses the Coup De Grace, and Corbin grabs the steel chair from the apron and nails Balor with it in the midsection. The ref calls for the bell.

Winner via DQ: Finn Balor

– After the match, Corbin rolls outside and gets on the mic. Corbin says he forgot to say, this is a No Disqualification match, and then he gets back in the ring and the bell sounds again.

Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin: Corbin rolls back in the ring, and he continues the beat-down on Balor. Corbin pins for the three count almost immediately.

Winner: Baron Corbin

– Corbin heads to the back as Balor recovers in the ring.

– Still to come: Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman & Roman Reigns

He tells Ambrose to close his eyes and breath, and tell him what he sees. Ambrose says he sees Jinder, and sees him beating Jinder down, and tells Jinder to get out of his face.

– Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins comes down to the ring and gets on the mic. Rollins says he had to take care of family business last week, in beating down Braun with the Shield. Rollins says tonight is IC Title business. Rollins calls out anyone in the back to come face him for his IC Title right now. It appears Kevin Owens is answering the open challenge. Owens comes out to the stage and gets on the mic, and he complains about Rollins having his friend Ambrose by his side to win, and Owens not having his friend Sami Zayn by his side. Owens says if Sami was here and not injured, he would have taken Braun’s Money In The Bank briefcase at SummerSlam. Owens says his summer has been terrible, but that ends tonight, because he’s not leaving this building without some sort of Title belt. Owens gets a cheap pop for mentioning they’re in Toronto tonight, but then he says Montreal would have been better, and he starts talking in French. Owens says he’s taking Rollin’s Title, and it’s happening right now.

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Kevin Owens: Rollins’ IC Title is on the line in this one. The opening bell sounds and Owens starts off strong with a series of strikes. Owens pummels on Rollins in the corner until Rollins turns the tide and throws some strikes of his own. Owens looks for a clothesline, but Rollins dodges and tackles Owens then pummels on him. Rollins clotheslines Owens back down, and the challenger rolls outside for a breather. Rollins follows and they brawl around ringside now. Back in the ring, Owens turns it around with a DDT and a chin lock. The fight spills back out to ringside where Owens whips Rollins into the fan barricade, then slams his shoulder against the ring post. Back in the ring, Owens continues working over Rollins’ arm. Owens takes Rollins back outside and whips him into the fan barricade, then Owens looks for a cannonball splash but misses. Back in ther ing, Rollins hits the sling blade, then he dumps Owens back outside and hits two suicide dives back to back. Rollins goes for a third suicide dive and Owens blocks it, but Rollins knocks Owens back and successfully hits another suicide dive. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a big frogsplash off the top for a two count. Owens fights back and looks for a crossface, and he locks it on on Rollins. Rollins reaches the ropes so Owens breaks the hold and stomps on him. Rollins dodges a shot and hits a superkick, but Owens fires back with a Stone Cold Stunner for a two count. They fight up to the top turnbuckle and Rollins looks for a sunset flip powerbomb, but Owens escapes and hits a superkick for a two count. – Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre do an interview in the back where they discuss challenging Reigns and Strowman tonight. Dolph ays tonight they make their move to the top of the food chain by beating them. Drew says Reigns is still beaten down from last week, and Strowman’s mind isn’t right because he’s distracted by his Universal Title hunt. Ziggler points out that Reigns and Strowman will never be able to coexist, knowing they have to fight at Hell in a Cell. Drew says Roman and Braun are two wounded animals ripe for the slaughter.

The B Team vs. The Revival: The B Team trades tags early on and takes turn beating on Dash. Dawson gets the tag and starts laying into Axel. The B Team dumps both Revival members outside now and they lead the crowd in a “B Team” chant. Back in the ring, The Revival turns it around again Dallas. Winners: The Revival

– The Revival beats down The B Team after the match, and then they grab The B Team’s tag titles from ringside. The Revival takes the tag belts back in the ring and they get on the mic. – Natalya, Ronda and Trish are walking backstage, and they bump into the Bella Twins. The Bella Twins congratulate Natalya on the win, and then they reveal some news: next week on RAW, the Bellas are back in action in the ring. Natalya takes a selfie and then we go to the broadcast team who promote the upcoming Australia super show.

Spoilers On WWE’s Plans For Upcoming SDL Episodes

9

We have some insight into WWE’s plans for SmackDown Live in the coming weeks.

PWInsider is reporting that Maryse is scheduled for tomorrow’s episode of SmackDown Live. The plan is to have her become a regular on the program moving forward. The report also notes there have been talks of having Maryse vs. Brie Bella at Evolution.

This makes sense given The Miz and Maryse vs. Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella will take place at Hell In A Cell. The two real-life married couples will face off in a Mixed Tag Team match.

Evolution goes down from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in East Garden City, New York on October 28th.

Tag Team Tournament

PWInsider also notes that next week’s SmackDown Live will feature a Triple Threat Tag Team match. The Usos, Sanity and Rusev & Aiden English will compete against each other. This is to be a part of the mini-tag team tournament implemented by General Manager Paige.

The winner of the tournament will challenge The New Day for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles. Last week on SmackDown, The New Day defeated The Bludgeon Brothers in a No Disqualification match to win the straps.

Kevin Owens Teases Return On Tonight’s RAW

1

Kevin Owens has gone into hiding after his loss at SummerSlam.

“KO” was last seen being squashed by Braun Strowman at “The Biggest Party Of The Summer.” Strowman had been torturing the former Universal Champion for weeks. Owens talked his way into a match with Strowman at SummerSlam.

Had Owens won, he would’ve won Strowman’s Money In The Bank (MITB) briefcase. However, Strowman absolutely demolished Owens with ease in Brooklyn. He wasn’t featured on the next night’s episode of RAW.

Tonight is the perfect opportunity for Owens to come back to the show. Owens would be returning in front of his native Canadian crowd. RAW is in the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada tonight.

Owens Tweeted out the following hours away from the show:

https://twitter.com/FightOwensFight/status/1034146936352395267

https://twitter.com/FightOwensFight/status/1034168466658471936

It should also be noted that Owens wiped out his Twitter feed. All past Tweets and replies have been deleted. Last week he changed his profile picture to black and his bio reads “back to darkness.”

Should Owens return on RAW tonight it should be interesting to see in what capacity he’ll be used. Perhaps a Universal Title run is in his sights.

Discussion: Do you think Owens will return on tonight’s RAW? If so, what do you think he’ll be doing? Let us know in the comments below!

Goldberg Reunites With Sting At Appearance (Photo)

4

Over the weekend two of the biggest names in WCW history reunited with one another.

Both Goldberg and Sting were at the Stand Alone Wrestling: Boardwalk Beatdown Pro Wrestling Experience convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Goldberg and Sting reunited and took a photo with one another.

Sting sported the old WCW World Title around his shoulder while Goldberg held the WWE Universal Title. Goldberg also met up with WWE legend Haku and took a photo with him as well.

He uploaded the photo to his Instagram to share with professional wrestling fans. Check it out here:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm6w_YTF7sv/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=embed_loading_state_control

“Never know who your going to run into!!! To say these 2 men had a positive influence on me during my wrestling days is a mild understatement! Seems like just yesterday!!”

There’s no doubt that Sting and Goldberg are two of the biggest professional wrestling stars ever produced by WCW. Sting was with the promotion from 1987 until its collapse in 2001. During his tenure “The Stinger” captured one NWA World Heavyweight Championship and six WCW World Titles.

Goldberg also had a tremendous run with the company. He began his professional wrestling career with WCW in the late ’90s and had an undefeated streak that lasted a year. Eventually he defeated Hulk Hogan to win the WCW World Title on a historic episode of Nitro.

After the company went under Goldberg had two runs with WWE. His latest featured a great rivalry with Brock Lesnar that included a WWE Universal Title run. Sting finally came to WWE in 2014.

He feuded with Triple H but lost to “The Game” at WrestleMania 31. He went on to have matches with Seth Rollins and The Big Show before being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2016 – announcing his retirement. Goldberg wasn’t too far behind, as he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame himself this past April.

Xavier Woods Says The New Day Will Never Turn On Each Other

7

Xavier Woods thinks The New Day will never turn on each other.

Recently, the trio captured the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships again. They finally toppled The Bludgeon Brothers after feuding with them for quite some time. The New Day have now won five Tag Team Titles in WWE between the RAW and SmackDown brands.

For several years now the team of Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston have been going strong in WWE. Usually a faction will split up after a good run of several years – if not shorter. Woods recently addressed this in an interview with GiveMeSport.

Woods said that he has no intentions of coming to work and not working with his friends. While he knows some fans might think he’s saying this because it’s going to happen – Woods shut that down as well.

He seemingly went out of character, saying he’s speaking as Austin Watson now (his real name). He proclaimed that what he’s saying is the truth, and The New Day are not breaking up:

“I don’t remember a group in wrestling that hasn’t turned on itself, or they’ll turn, then come back and be a group again. New Day – I’m telling you this right now – New Day will never turn. Ever. And that’s because we have zero desire to ever do that. I have zero desire to go to work and not work with my friends.”

“People say on Twitter, ‘New Day is doing this, Big E is going to turn, this is happening. Oh, Woods is the snarky one, he’s going to turn. Oh, Kofi’s been up at the top of the mountain before, he’s gonna turn!. It’s like, why? We are having the most fun we’ve ever had in our careers.

“It’s not like someone’s like, ‘Oh, I need to sabotage my friends to be champ.’ What is it to be champ when you’re a champ by yourself? You’re standing up there alone on this cold mountainous castle? That’s not fun. I’d rather be up there with my friends.

“Especially, if Kofi wins the Heavyweight Title, I’m also the Heavyweight Champion because we have ‘The New Day Rule’ and we share it. Just basic mathematics, we have a better chance of becoming Heavyweight Champion if we stay a group and we just share it.”

“So, there’s your answer, internet. We will all retire before we turn. That’s a legitimate answer, this is not some, ‘Oh! He’s saying this because it’s happening!’ No, my government name is Austin Watson. Austin Watson is telling you that is the truth. Thank you.”

Discussion: What do you make of Woods’ comments? Do you think The New Day will split soon? Sound off in the comments section!

Zack Gibson On How He’s Trying To Be Taken More Seriously

0

WWE NXT UK star Zack Gibson recently spoke to The Mirror. Gibson discussed WWE’s NXT UK brand and also talked about his own professional wrestling career.

Firstly, Gibson discussed changing up his look in effort to be taken more seriously. Originally he had long blonde hair. He has since shaved his head and grown out his beard:

“I had long blonde hair if you can believe that! I remember very clearly being at a show and [British wrestling legend and NXT general manager] William Regal told me that I looked very nice and that I would turn a few heads. … I’ve chipped loads of teeth but I won’t get them fixed. If you look at some of us British wrestlers, we have an authenticity.”

Gibson was then asked who he is targeting in the NXT UK division. He named some high-profile characters such as Trent Seven, Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne:

“If you look at Trent Seven, Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne, they got to the WWE’s United Kingdom division a year ahead of me. They have dominated in that time. But now I’m here and I’m coming for them.”

You Don’t Need To Be A Big Guy

In recent years WWE has seen a rise in small wrestlers, or stars that aren’t ridiculously large, becoming top guys. Gibson discussed how you no longer need to be a big guy to have success in the industry. He noted that it’s even taking affect beyond the realm of professional wrestling.

He points to Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr., two lighter weight fighters, putting on the highest-grossing fight in history:

“If you look at the biggest grossing fight in history, it was Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor. That’s a fact and they both weigh around 150 lbs. Look at Pete Dunne [the WWE UK Champion].

“He’s shown that you don’t have to be the biggest guy to find success. That said, for me, I have chosen to get in the gym because I want to be as strong as possible.

“That, to me, is more important than being chiseled or having a six-pack. I have to work really hard because I’m naturally skinny. I think God wanted me to be an accountant!”

Toronto hosted SummerSlam once before back in 2004.

Colt Cabana Addresses Lawsuit Against CM Punk

31

Colt Cabana briefly spoke on his pending lawsuit against CM Punk during a recent episode of his podcast. The “Art of Wrestling” host is suing his former friend for the cost of legal fees stemming from WWE’s lawsuit against the two of them.

Cabana said he wished news of the lawsuit had not leaked out and he does not sound as though he’s interested in discussing it much.

“All I want is for this thing to be settled,” Cabana said on the show. “I don’t have anything to say about it. I’m going to try not to say anything about this until after everything unfolds, I guess.”

Cabana would continue to say that the rumors regarding a falling out between him and Punk stemming from Cabana going backstage at a WWE event are untrue. The last time Cabana says he was backstage at a WWE event was 4 years ago when he interviewed Hornswoggle for his podcast.

Colt Cabana CM Punk Lawsuit

Cabana claims to have text messages from Punk stating he would pay for the pair’s legal defense. Something changed during the course of their defense, however, and Punk evidently has not paid for Cabana’s half of their lawyer bill.

Cabana is suing for the $200,000 he must pay lawyers along with $1 million in punitive damages.

Joey Ryan’s Ghost Announces “Murder Mystery” Event For Starrcast

1

Joey Ryan has not been murdered. In fact, the popular independent wrestler is still very much alive and will be attending Starrcast this weekend.

In the world of “Being the Elite”, however, Ryan is believed to have been murdered by Hangman Page. Some assumed this would lead to a match between victim and murderer at “All In” but Page has been booked for a match against “Bad Boy” Joey Janela instead.

Ryan will hold two “Ghostly Meet and Greets” on August 31st and September 1st before a full “Murder Mystery” event on the Sunday. Whether or not he plays a role in the match between Janela and Page remains unclear.

Did Hangman Page Murder Joey Ryan?

It’s been a huge year for 27-year-old Adam “Hangman” Page. He made his debut in NJPW’s G1 Climax tournament this year and racked up a 3-6 record but earned praise for his performances.

On the YouTube show “Being the Elite”, Page has started to unravel in recent months. It is speculated that Page grew jealous of Joey Ryan’s popularity and wanted to be known as the only “dick-wrestler” in the business.

Page spoke with Impact Wrestling’s Alicia Atout back in June regarding his opinion of Ryan.

“He was a penis pretender,” Page said. “I’m going to talk about him in the past tense maybe; he’s missing.”

“For years and years he built his whole career off a lie,” Page said regarding Ryan’s gimmick. “As if he had a more impressive nether-region than I did and it just wasn’t true.”

John Cena Shares Inspirational Message

John Cena, who has been recently promoting WWE’s Super Show Down event on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia, decided to take to his official Twitter account to share an inspiring message with fans by writing the following:

Cena is set to make his return to in-ring competition for the WWE as he is slated to work the upcoming live event in Shanghai, China at the Mercedes Benz Arena on Saturday, Sept. 1 where he’ll team with Finn Balor and Bobby Lashley to face Baron Corbin, Elias, and Jinder Mahal. He has not been seen in a WWE ring since wrestling Triple H at the Greatest Royal Rumble in April.

Cody Rhodes Reveals How He Paid for All In ‘Over Budget Battle Royal’

7

Putting on a massive event like ALL IN isn’t cheap.

The highly anticipated pay-per-view event that goes down this weekend features stars from all over the professional wrestling world and might just be one of the most ambitious independent shows in recent memory.

As one of the primary people behind the show, Cody Rhodes knows exactly what it took to get this incredible lineup together.

In fact, Rhodes had to go above and beyond when it came time to afford the ‘Over Budget Battle Royal’, which earned its name thanks to the real life financial constraints that were required to make it happen in the first place.

With an hour long special dubbed ‘ALL IN: Zero Hour’ set to air on WGN America, Rhodes knew he had to pull out all the stops to make the battle royal happen — and so that’s exactly what he did.

“When you look at the ring for the entire show — you look at the canvas, you look at the aprons, the buckles, all the soft goods that make up a professional wrestling ring – know that I sold each and every one of them to various collectors so that I could afford the Over Budget Battle Royal,” Rhodes revealed on the latest ALL US podcast.

Memorabilia from events like this one can fetch a premium price from collectors so that’s exactly what Rhodes used to ensure he could afford the battle royal that will air on WGN America.

The winner of that battle royal will then go onto compete for the Ring of Honor championship during the pay-per-view portion of ALL IN.

Rhodes definitely gets points for creativity and now ALL IN: Zero Hour will feature the ‘Over Budget Battle Royal’ starting at 6 p.m. ET on WGN America this Saturday night.

Cody Rhodes Explains How ‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Ended Up Going ALL IN

5

It’s no secret that ‘Arrow’ star Stephen Amell is a big fan of professional wrestling and now he will go ALL IN this weekend for a match against Christopher Daniels.

Amell has actually appeared in matches previously, including a showdown against Cody when he was Stardust in WWE back in 2015.

Now Amell is scheduled for his biggest match today as he goes into singles competition at the highly anticipated ALL IN pay-per-view this weekend from New York.

According to Rhodes, who also has a five episode arc upcoming in the new season of ‘Arrow’, says that Amell has pro wrestling in his blood and that’s why it wasn’t all that hard to get him on board for the match at ALL IN.

“Well, Stephen got it in his blood.” Rhodes said when speaking to ComicBook.com. “The first time he came back, we were in Barkley Center when he did the match with Stardust. When he came to the curtain, he got a standing ovation. He got it in his blood, man. It doesn’t matter what age you are, if you’re a millionaire already, the feeling of pro wrestling for an entertainer, for a show person, there’s nothing like it. And he wanted a singles match immediately after that. Immediately.

“‘Arrow’ marches on, and we didn’t necessarily get there with Stardust. But when we talked about this event, I obviously thought what a wonderful moment that would be, and at the same time, I was heading back to ‘Arrow’ for five episodes now.”

https://twitter.com/StephenAmell/status/1032092867584389125

Filming for ‘Arrow’ season 7 is still ongoing but obviously Amell is taking a break this weekend for his match against Daniels.

Rhodes says the pairing was natural just given what he knows about both of the guys involved in the match and he can’t wait to see how it all unfolds at ALL IN.

“He was the right person at the right time.” Rhodes said about Daniels as Amell’s opponent. “I mean, if I’m talking as a real insider perspective, here’s two guys that I would give the world to. I won my first world title from Christopher Daniels, and I may dislike him. He’s literally busted my lip and both my eyebrows, but I’ll have a bond with that guy forever because of it. And Stephen, even though I read for eight different parts and finally got something, Stephen has been a big part of my career. That was my favorite thing that I did as Stardust. It really helped me learn the character, and to be able to come into his world, and that’s something that I want to pursue, and we’re doing more with after.”

“So it’s just two of the greatest people ever, and plus, they’re both super contrarian. They’re both super aggressive, and competitive, so I just feel like it’s going to be a full blown hockey fight, and I’m excited for that hockey fight. I’ll be mortified and terrified if [Christopher Daniel] busts Stephen open like he has done to me every time we’ve ever been in the ring, but my fingers are crossed, man.”

Given Amell’s excitement about the upcoming match, it’s tough to believe he won’t show up any time Rhodes has an offer for him to hop back into the ring.

Bobby Roode Discusses Leaving Impact Wrestling For WWE

4

Bobby Roode has reflected on his decision to depart from TNA and join WWE. The former WWE United States Champion recently made an appearance on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia to talk about various topics including why he left TNA where he had made a name for himself.

TNA

He noted that he was reaching 40 years old and thought to himself, he doesn’t think he can go out there and wrestle then wait 6-8 weeks and then have him work 8 days in a row, twice a day in a studio of 200 people and really be able to give it his all.

For me, just the passion was starting to go away and in my mind I was thinking like, ‘If I don’t want to leave my house and I don’t want to do what I’ve loved to do for the last 17 years, then I really have to rethink what I want to do here.’”

NXT

This is when he spoke with Triple H about potentially signing with the WWE and being a member of the NXT roster. He recalled having a conversation with “The Game” where he pitched him a coaching job at the WWE Performance Center.

This is when Roode told him that he didn’t want to be a coach at the stage of his career at the time. Instead, he felt like he had a lot left in the tank and would want a chance in NXT.

“‘Okay cool. We’ll give you an opportunity. We’ll give a shot and see where it goes.’ So they flew me down to WrestleMania 32, went down there, met Hunter face to face. Kind of met everybody, met the crew, and I just immediately felt at home. I know what I said, ‘I don’t like change.’ but I walked in there and everybody was really cool.”

Roode also talked about wrestling a match in WWE in 1998, having kids while being a WWE star and much more. You can listen to the full episode here:

Stu Bennett Wants Neville for WoS, Broadcast Time Changed by ITV

0

WoS General Manager Stu Bennett recently called out a former WWE Superstar to appear on the show.

We reported over the weekend that Neville is no longer contracted to WWE. The former Cruiserweight Champion now appears to be a free agent and everyone wants the Geordie, including NJPW’s Will Ospreay.

You can now add Stu Bennett to that list. The WoS General Manager took to Twitter to state “Yo Neville. I’ve got a bunch of lads at who are asking to fight you.. Check it out on at 5pm today & you can pick your opponent.”

Whilst the likelihood of the former WWE showing up in a pre-taped show is very unlikely there’s certainly scope for him to join the ranks of WoS down the line. There has been no official word on whether the show will be renewed and the ratings are still up for interpretation success wise.

Change to 4:30pm

It has also been confirmed that WoS will now be airing at a new time-slot as of September 1st. The show has been moved to the 4:30-5:30pm block. Whilst the numbers haven’t been stellar at the 5pm block the show has been gaining over the last few weeks. Whether the change in time slot will affect ratings remains to be seen.

Report: WoS Ratings for Episode 5, Is The Show Still Gaining?

1

WoS/World of Sport held their fifth episode this weekend on ITV. The ratings for the show appear to have now been released.

Here’s the reported number:

  • 700k (6.7% share) The show peaked at 0.9m

Compared to last week’s number:

  •  545k (5.3% Share)

Interestingly the number does appear to have not only held but been built upon. Considering that we’ve now had four weeks of around 500k-700k it’s fair to say that the show has found it’s audience. and is slowly growing.

Premier League Opposition

If you’ve been following our weekly report on the WoS Ratings (here’s week 4) you’ll know about the Premier League opposition. Football/Soccer in the United Kingdom is a massive draw. Whilst PL games don’t draw millions in actual TV ratings the eyeballs viewing the action across the UK in pubs, clubs and illegal streaming are huge.

This week’s game saw Liverpool take on Brighton. On paper this wasn’t a ‘big’ game however last week’s results for both teams including a shock win for Brighton gave this game far more precedence. The fact that this 5 o’clock kickoff game didn’t actually hurt the WoS rating is a big plus for the brand.

The Brand is the Draw

Last week saw the return of top international star Will Ospreay. The NJPW performer is easily considered one of the top stars on WoS and it was expected that his reappearance would help the number. It appears as though the brand itself may be the drawing card. With a strong Tag Team title tournament and Women’s Division the brand is slowly establishing itself to the mainstream UK audience.

For a Saturday night the number again is not stellar. Can the show now sustain and build on the number? It remains to be seen but this isn’t

Here are the full results from the Saturday August 25th show:

  • WOS Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final Alpha Bad (Iestyn Rees & Kip Sabian) defeat Just Uz (BT Gunn & Stevie Boy)
  • Crater b. Gabriel Kidd and Liam Slater
  • WOS Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final Match Adam Maxted & Nathan Cruz defeat Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Grado
  • WOS Women’s Title Battle Royal Kay Lee Ray (c) b. Ayesha Raymond and Bea Priestley and Kasey Owens and Viper

Tyler Bate Likes To Think He Is WWE’s Strongest Man

2

NXT’s Mustache Mountain, Tyler Bate and Trent Seven, recently spoke to The Mirror. Bate has shown amazing feats of strength inside the ring at times. He says he likes to think he is WWE’s strongest man:

“I like to think I’m the strongest man in WWE. It’s why I call myself the Big Strong Boi.”

Recently, WWE introduced an NXT UK Women’s Championship. Spoilers on that here. Bate said he thinks it’s a great opportunity for the women of NXT UK to show what they got:

“It’s a great opportunity for all of the women in the company to show the world what they’re made of and show everybody how good they are. I’m looking forward to everybody else getting to watch them perform and I’m sure they will do a great job.”

Quite The Comparison

At NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 Mustache Mountain failed to capture the NXT Tag Team Titles. The Undisputed Era defeated them to retain their titles. On the TakeOver panel, Pat McAfee compared Mustache Mountain to the British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid).

Trent Seven said it was very complimentary to receive such a comparison:

“Yeah, well he was very complimentary. It does make you think about just what kind of impact we can have as regards being UK and British wrestlers, having the chance to travel abroad and overseas, being able to wrestle on that stage, it’s a burden I’m more than happy to have.”

Bate sympathized with his partner’s sentiment, and believes they can live up to the pressure of such a comparison:

“Yeah it’s a lot of pressure to be compared to teams like the Bulldogs and I think Mustache Mountain can really live up to that pressure.”

Seven agreed, saying he believes it’s that kind of pressure that pushes talents to the next level:

“I agree, I think it’s that kind of pressure that really pushes people on to the next level. Our goal is to continue climbing the ladder of WWE and eventually get on the main roster but for now, let’s just keep building the brand of NXT UK.”

Backstage Details On Changes To AAA’s Writing Team

1

Mexico’s Lucha Libre AAA promotion presented TripleMania XXVI over the weekend. According to sources within the promotion, there have been some significant changes behind the scenes in AAA over the past several months.

SEScoops has learned AAA quietly let Chris DeJoseph go as their head writer back in June. Prior to his release, DeJoseph had been working as a ‘ghost writer’ for former AAA booker Vampiro. When Dorian Roldan found out about DeJoseph helping Vampiro write their shows, he formally promoted DeJoseph to a writing position.

Shortly after DeJoseph was officially brought on board as part of AAA’s writing team, there was a sharp decline in ticket sales and television ratings. Dorian eventually gave control back to Konnan, who is the current head writer.

Vampiro is still loosely involved helping as a talent coordinator, but his role has been heavily scaled back.

Chris DeJoseph remains the head writer for Lucha Underground and does some acting work in the Los Angeles area.

Jim Ross Reveals The Unlikely Genesis Of His Friendship With Paul Heyman

1

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross and Paul Heyman have been friends for decades. The duo worked together multiple times over the years, first in WCW and later in WWE. On the latest episode of the The Jim Ross Report podcast, JR revealed their friendship actually formed after Ross was arrested for DUI (driving under the influence).

“I’ve mentioned before that I’ve had a DUI.” Ross said. “I’m not proud of it. I lost my drivers license for, I think, three months or six months. I’m not sure, but I know my driver was Paul Heyman, which let me get to know Paul and we started working together.

“And you see how that has worked out over the years, very good. It’s funny how sometimes a calamity can bring people together. And the volatile ‘Happy’ Heyman and I became connected through my stupid DUI.”

Today, Ross is featured on WWE TV from time to time. Heyman has served as the Advocate for Brock Lesnar in recent years. Following Brock Lesnar’s loss to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, it remains to be seen whether or not he will remain with the company.

Last summer, Paul Heyman made a surprise appearance at the Ringside with Jim Ross show during SummerSlam weekend. Heyman gave an emotional speech about JR’s late wife Jan, who had been killed by a reckless driver just weeks earlier.

Matt Hardy Receives Emotional Send-Off At WWE Live Event

3

Matt Hardy got an emotional send-off at Sunday night’s WWE Live Event from Rochester, New York. The Woken one will now take extended time off as he deals with various injuries and re-evaluates his in-ring future.

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt teamed up on the show in what is likely their final match together. The B-Team retained the Raw Tag Team championships in a 3-team match that also included The Revival. After the final, Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt embraced in the ring and received a standing ovation from the live crowd. As they were on the ramp about to walk backstage, both Matt and Bray threw up the Hardy Boyz hand gesture.

Later in the evening, Matt thanked fans on Twitter for the “WONDERFUL” and heartwarming send-off he received in Rochester. “I appreciate you,” he said.

As we’ve been reporting, his future as an active wrestler are in question.  A long career of putting his body on the line may have finally caught up with the talented performer. In recent weeks, Matt Hardy has begun working behind the scenes as a producer/agent.

Matt will address his nagging injuries over the next several months. We do not know the full extent of his injuries at this time. There is no reason to believe he is officially retired, but he won’t be wrestling any time soon.

Longtime WWE Live Events Executive Ed Cohen Passes Away

1

Longtime WWE Live Events Executive Ed Cohen passed away on Friday. In a statement released at WWE.com, the company said, “Cohen was instrumental in helping to transform WWE’s Live Event touring business into the global phenomenon it is today. ”

WWE Hall of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund provided some additional details regarding Cohen’s passing. Okerlund posted the following message on Facebook on Saturday:

“Sad to report that longtime WWE executive Ed Cohen diéd yesterday. Ed was basically in charge of securing venues for WWE house shows and later television tapings. In the early years Cohen was especially close in working with Vince and Linda McMahon because income from house shows was a main revenue stream for the then-young company. Ed remained with the company for many years but his failing health became an issue in later years and he was less involved. RIP Ed Cohen.”

SEScoops send our condolences to the family and friends of Ed Cohen.
