Reby Hardy Comments On Matt Hardy Transitioning From Wrestler To Producer

0

Matt Hardy’s wife Reby was a guest on the Busted Open satellite radio show on Sirius XM as part of their SummerSlam weekend coverage. During the discussion, Reby spoke candidly about Matt Hardy’s in-ring career winding down and the possibility of Matt transitioning to an agent/producer role. As noted earlier, Matt Hardy was backstage at SummerSlam doing just that.

When asked about her husband’s condition, Reby Hardy revealed that Matt Hardy is going through a “transitional period” in his career and might not return to the ring.

“Matt is good,” she said. “Matt is right now going through a transitional period. He’s not really sure what he’s going to be doing. His contract is up in March, which I’m not sure many people are aware of. But there’s sort of a decision to be made at this point as to whether or not he should continue his in-ring career or if he should pursue something different, which he would totally be up for and would be excited to do, I feel like.”

She continued, “So, he’s kind of giving it a go right now backstage. He’s at Summerslam. He’s not on the card but he’s there. And we’re kind of going to see from here. It’s really a transitional time right now.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry, a co-host on Busted Open, told Reby that Matt can survive in the wrestling business without having to put his body through the rigors that come with being an in-ring competitor. Reby said she tells that to Matt all the time. She said wrestling is all Matt has known since he’s 16 years old. After 25 years in the wrestling business, she hopes Matt embraces this next chapter of his career as an agent/producer.

Finn Balor Hopes Brock Lesnar Stays In WWE

3

Finn Balor hopes Brock Lesnar stays in WWE after SummerSlam last night.

“The Demon King” returned to squash Baron Corbin in a Singles match at “The Biggest Party Of The Summer.” Prior to the event, Balor spoke to The Gorilla Position to talk about several professional wrestling topics.

Balor offered his thoughts on now-former WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Although Lesnar dropped the Universal Title to Roman Reigns, Balor doesn’t want to see “The Beast” walk away from WWE. In fact, he hopes Brock Lesnar stays in WWE:

“When [Lesnar] comes out, it’s a different feel,” Balor said. “Everyone’s like, ‘oh no, what’s gonna happen? We don’t know what’s gonna happen.’ I love it, I love watching Brock. I’d love to get in the ring with Brock.

“He is an attraction and he’s been an attraction since day one. People tend to forget that, they’re like ‘oh he comes and goes,’ but Brock’s the real deal. He was New Japan champion, people forget that, you know he’s been doing it [in WWE] for years, NCAA — he’s the real deal man… UFC, duh how’d I forget that one?

“When Brock walks to the ring there’s something special there happening that night. Regardless of if it’s good or bad, people like it or don’t like it they’re all paying attention and that’s what we need — we need more of that in pro wrestling.”

With Lesnar’s loss at SummerSlam, he’s likely to return to the UFC and challenge Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title. That could mean a long WWE layoff for “The Beast.” When asked if he wants Lesnar to return to WWE, here’s what Balor had to say:

“I hope so,” Balor said. “You never know. You know everyone said he’s out the door after WrestleMania, last SummerSlam he was going. This SummerSlam he’s going. People just make up stories in their head because it sells newspapers or clickbait or whatever.

“They just like to talk to hear themselves talk or make themselves feel like they have an opinion, but we’re all just guessing. Because it’s all media hype. Nobody knows until it actually happens… I don’t think [WWE] even knows.”

What Happened After SummerSlam Went Off-Air?

6

Last night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) ended with a historic moment.

Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship in the main event. Prior to the match, Braun Strowman came out to the ring with a microphone. He said he would challenge the winner of the match after its conclusion with his Money In The Bank (MITB) briefcase.

At one point in the match, Lesnar sent Reigns crashing into Strowman outside. Lesnar proceeded to attack Strowman with an F5, the MITB briefcase and a steel chair. Once he got back into the ring, however, Reigns hit him with another Spear for the three count.

Reigns celebrated on the top rope as the show went off-air. After the show, Reigns continued to celebrate in front of fans at the Barclays Center. Strowman then stood up as Reigns left to the back.

He limped to the top of the entrance ramp and picked up his MITB briefcase, which Lesnar threw earlier. Strowman took one last look back at the crowd before heading back backstage.

It should be interesting to see how the storyline between Reigns, Lesnar and Strowman progresses on tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW.

Reason For Chant During SummerSlam Main Event, Lashley Congratulates Reigns

5

Reason For Chant During SummerSlam Main Event

Last night’s main event of SummerSlam crowned a new Universal Champion. Roman Reigns finally defeated Brock Lesnar to win the World Title. During the match, however, fans began chanting something rather interesting.

A chant of “a**hole” broke out while Lesnar was taking Reigns to Suplex City. It turns out, a SummerSlam security guard confiscated a beach ball that was brought out by some fans. WWE has had several issues with beach balls in the past and have really been cracking down on them at shows.

Another notable chant that broke out during the show was “TNA” during the WWE Championship match between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

Discussion: What do you think about WWE’s issues with beach balls? Should they be banned? Let us know in the comments!

Lashley Congratulates Reigns

As mentioned, Roman Reigns won the Universal Title in the main event of SummerSlam last night. In his fourth World Title match-up against Brock Lesnar, Reigns finally got his hand raised.

Reigns’ former rival and Universal Title hopeful, Bobby Lashley, took to Twitter to congratulate Reigns. Lashley gave Reigns props for “slaying The Beast”:

“Congrats Big Dog on slaying the beast and winning that .”

Ember Moon Discusses Her Journey To WWE, Making Her Main Roster Debut

0

Ember Moon has reflected on making her WWE main roster debut during a recent interview.

The former NXT Women’s Champion recently made an appearance on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia to talk about various topics including being called up after a successful run in NXT to make her debut on their flagship show, Monday Night RAW, on the April 9, 2018 episode, which was the night after after WrestleMania 34.

Main Roster Debut

Moon noted that she was in the first match on the show and was introduced by Nia Jax, who is a good friend. She stated that it’s one of the few times that she took a step outside and enjoyed something in the moment. She recalled telling herself that she is going to do this and once her music hit, the little kid inside of her was just jumping for joy.

“Teenage me that went through so much in middle school and high school. It was so amazing and to just know my grandfather who had always pushed me into following this dream when I had gotten older. It was great, it was like a sense of accomplishment, but never ever have I just sat there and just reveled in it for a moment.”

Not Being Signed After Third WWE Tryout

Moon also brought up how she participated in three WWE tryouts and after the third attempt, WWE didn’t have any interest in signing her. She stated that she got the news before school started which resulted in her taking a semester off because she was bummed about it.

“I remember getting that phone call and they said, ‘It’s a no.’ I said, ‘Is there anything I did wrong?’ ‘Nah, it’s just a no.’ and beforehand when I’ve gone to FCW, they were like, ‘Oh, you just don’t have a Diva look, you’re not a Diva. Yeah you’re cute, but look at them, look at you.’ It was a different time period and those girls were drop dead gorgeous, but at the same time I’m like, ‘Man if I would have gotten hired then, I wouldn’t be the person I am today”

She continued by stating that she wouldn’t be the athlete and the entertainer that she is today because of WWE turning her down three times. It made her fired up and have the mindset to make a name for herself on the indy scene to the point that she is going to make them want her.

Moon also talked about being bullied as a kid, her grandfather and much more. You can listen to the full episode here:

SmackDown Live Star Rumored To Turn Heel

17

A popular wrestler on SmackDown Live is expected to turn heel in the coming weeks.  SummerSlam wrapped up last night and we’ll see the aftermath on tonight’s Monday Night RAW and tomorrow’s SmackDown Live. One notable moment on the show was Becky Lynch turning heel. Lynch attacked Charlotte Flair after “The Queen” won their Triple Threat match with Carmella for the SmackDown Live Women’s Title.

With SummerSlam in the rear-view mirror, the build towards Hell In A Cell begins. It looks like another woman could be getting in on the SmackDown Live Women’s Title mix – as a heel. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, that there have been talks of turning Asuka heel. Meltzer even said that he thinks there was a photo going around showing a heel Asuka.

He also mentioned that Asuka has been in a tough spot for the past several months. Back in April she dropped her undefeated streak to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34. She failed to capture the SmackDown Live Women’s Title. Asuka also suffered a pair of losses to Carmella. Since having her streak ended, Meltzer said the Japanese star has looked “terrible” because of her booking.

Perhaps Tuesday night Asuka could begin her transition into becoming a heel. It’s undoubtable that she needs some sort of shake-up since having lost her undefeated streak at WrestleMania to Charlotte Flair.

A heel turn worked nicely for Shinsuke Nakamura. He turned at WrestleMania 34 after losing his WWE Title opportunity to AJ Styles. In the following weeks Nakamura really hit new strides with his character.

Fans seem a lot more invested in the former New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) star as a heel. Hopefully the same response would occur for Asuka.

Discussion: What do you think of Asuka potentially turning heel? What do you think of Asuka’s booking since WrestleMania?

Hiromu Takahashi Vacates IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Tournament Announced

2

Hiromu Takahashi has officially vacated the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Takahashi won the title earlier this year after also winning the 2018 Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

Takahashi was injured at last month’s G1 Special in San Francisco show. He was dropped on his head by Dragon Lee during a cradle-suplex spot. Takahashi finished the match but collapsed backstage and was taken to a hospital.

He suffered a broken neck but is believed to be on track to return to the ring in 9-12 months. Takahashi has now vacated the title due to his injury.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament

NJPW has scheduled a 4-man single-elimination tournament to declare a new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. All 4 wrestlers have held the title on at least 1 occasion previously.

The tournament will begin on September 23rd from Beppu.

  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
    Kushida vs Bushi

the next semi-final will be held in Long Beach at Fighting Spirit Unleashed on September 30th.

  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
    Will Ospreay vs Marty Scurll

The finals of the tournament will be held at King of Pro Wrestling on October 8th, 2018. No other matches have been announced for the show thus far.

The announcement of the tournament comes at the same time the promotion has released the full cards for the Destruction tour. Just two matches have been announced thus far for Fighting Spirit Unleashed.

‘GLOW’ Officially Renewed for Season 3 on Netflix

0

The ‘Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’ still have plenty of work to do in the ring after ‘GLOW’ was officially renewed for season 3 on Netflix.

The streaming giant announced the news on Monday after ‘GLOW’ received critical praise for both season one and season two.

Based loosely on the ‘Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’ promotion from the 1980’s, the series on Netlix, which is one part comedy, one part drama, was expected to be renewed but the news didn’t come down the pipe until this week.

Since first arriving on Netflix last year, ‘GLOW’ has been praised by both critics and audiences alike.

In fact, ‘GLOW’ received a nomination for ‘Best Comedy’ for the 2018 Emmy Awards with Betty Gilpin — who portrays ‘Liberty Belle’ on the show — being nominated for best supporting actress in a comedy as well.

The third season of the show will move from Los Angeles to Las Vegas after the storyline on ‘GLOW’ season two ended with the promotion losing its television contract but then being picked up by a promoter looking to put on a live show in Sin City.

Of course there’s no word yet if ‘GLOW’ season 3 will actually be filmed in Las Vegas as most of the locations that would have been there in the 1980’s when the show takes place are no longer standing.

Production on ‘GLOW’ season 3 will pick up in late 2018 or early next year with a 2019 debut date on Netflix.

The Firing Squad To Challenge The Young Bucks in Long Beach, Confirm New Member

0

Bullet Club’s Firing Squad have recently been scheduled for two upcoming title matches in NJPW. Although NJPW President, Harold Meij, threatened the group with suspensions due to their repeated interference during the G1, the faction is once again back on the promotion’s tours for September.

Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa vs the Young Bucks

The biggest upcoming match for the faction will take place September 30th in Long Beach. Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight tag-team Championships at Fighting Spirit Unleashed. They will take on their rivals from Bullet Club Elite, the Young Bucks.

Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Taiji Ishimori Defend NEVER 6-Man Championships

The Firing Squad won the NEVER 6-Man tag-team Championships on the final day of the G1 Climax tour. They then threw the belts down in front of Harold Meij. Now, Meij has scheduled for the group to defend the titles on the September 15th show from Hiroshima.

The Firing Squad will defend their titles against Juice Robinson, David Finlay, and Ryusuke Taguchi.

The Firing Squad Confirm New Member

https://twitter.com/MrGinoGambino/status/1030651062674280448

Since their original attack following the G1 Special in San Francisco, the group has added a few wrestlers. The original names confirmed were Haku, Tama Tonga, and Tanga Loa but quickly it would be confirmed that Bad Luck Fale and HIKULEO were both aligned with the faction as well.

The group then added Taiji Ishimori on the final days of the G1 tour. They have now added Gino Gambino from Melbourne City Wrestling. The faction, Fale most notably, spend a lot of time on the continent. Fale has a dojo in New Zealand and has worked with Gambino often. Gambino frequently tags with Bullet Club members when they tour the territory.

Renee Young Shows Off Her New Tattoos

1

WWE broadcaster Renee Young is sporting a few new tattoos. Last week, Renee Young made history by becoming the first woman in history to call a full episode of Monday Night Raw. She got rave reviews for her performance, with many fans arguing she would make a much better fit for the position than Jonathan Coachman.

As you now, the WWE crew has been in New York City since late last week for SummerSlam weekend. After two huge back-to-back shows at the Barclays Center for NXT Takeover and SummerSlam, WWE returns to the venue for tonight’s RAW and Tuesday’s SmackDown Live.

On Monday, Renee Young revealed on Instagram that she spent several hours at Snow Tattoo in Tribeca getting some new ink. Visit SarahGaugler.com for more on ”
New York’s multifaceted contemporary female creative.”

Renee worked with artist Sarah Gaugler on two new pieces: a stylized crescent moon on her right bicep and what appears to be the collision emoji (?) behind her right ear.

Check out Renee Young’s Instagram page (and her “story”) to see more photos of her new tattoos.

Christopher Daniels Talks ‘All In’ Match with Stephen Amell

0

Christopher Daniels will be facing TV star Stephen Amell at the All In PPV event on September 1st. The 47 year old veteran Daniels recently spoke to TV Insider regarding his upcoming bout and the success of All In.

When asked about the ticket sales Daniels stated that “The day that the tickets went on sale and sold out so quickly, I feel like we all took a step back and said, ‘Wow, that happened quicker than we expected.” Daniels also discussed the rise of popularity of Bullet Club and The Young Bucks/Cody Rhodes in particular. “I think everyone knew that with the excitement around the Bucks and Cody and the way things are going for them right now, I think they knew it would be successful. How quickly it happened was such a pleasant surprise. It was a good feeling to know the support is out there for these guys and what they want to have happen.”

When Daniels moved onto his opponent at All In he discussed how Stephen Amell will be looking to set the bar “a lot higher than people are going to expect.” He went on to say that “I’ve been reading a lot of social media of people’s expectations. I’m pretty sure we’re going to exceed anyone’s preconceived notions of what this match is going to be.”

Third Bout for Amell

This of course will not be the first time that Stephen Amell steps in a pro wrestling ring. The star of ‘Arrow’ first appeared in a bout at Summerslam 2015 alongside Neville against Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes (then Stardust). Amell also performed as part of the Bullet Club vs Flip Gordon, Scorpio Sky & The Addiction match in last November’s ROH Survival of The Fittest PPV.

Report: WoS Ratings for Episode 4, Did The Show Hold It’s Number?

4

WoS/World of Sport held their third episode this weekend on ITV and the ratings for the show appear to have been released.

The first few week’s numbers released by an ‘insider’ at the DigitalSpy website were instantly refuted by a production staff member at ITV. These latest numbers for the August 18th episode have again been revealed by a user at the DigitalSpy forum however these do not appear to have yet been disputed.

Here’s the reported number:

  • 17:00 – WOS Wrestling: 545k (5.3% Share)

Here’s the number for last week’s episode:

  • 17:00 – WOS Wrestling: 539k (4.9% share)

Interestingly the number does appear to have held. Considering that we’ve now had three weeks of around 500k-550k it’s fair to say that the show has found it’s audience.

Competition from the Premier League

Many fans in the UK were expecting the number to fall for week 4. Last week saw the return of Premier League football/soccer and this week had a huge game in Chelsea vs Arsenal. It’s a good sign that WoS actually held up against a match that even ‘casual’ soccer fans go out of their way to watch. Many expected the number to completely bomb in this time slot as the 17:30 kickoff is a huge part of the Premier League’s schedule.

ITV also attempted to create an audience for WoS from 3pm. The broadcast of The Scorpion King at 15:15 as a lead-in was an attempt to bring extra viewers to WoS. Having a film featuring the biggest Superstar on the planet in The Rock is a good attempt to draw causal fans, however Scorpion King drew 609k viewers with a 7.2% share, so a good portion did leave before WoS even started.

Return of Will Ospreay

The return of Will Ospreay made a huge impact on the episode. Ospreay’s bout with Martin Kirby was head and shoulders above the rest of the series so far. Grado also appears to be moving into a more ‘mid-card’ position. The ICW star teamed with Davey Boy Smith Jr for the ongoing Tag Team Championship tournament.

Who Was Backstage At Summerslam?

7

Last night WWE presented their biggest event of the summer. As is often the case when the promotion is in the New York area, plenty of celebrities were backstage. Additionally, several wrestling personalities were backstage as well.

Who Was Backstage At Summerslam?

Shane McMahon hasn’t been seen on camera for several months but was backstage last night. Ric Flair was also on hand to witness his daughter, Charlotte Flair, win back the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Bayley and Sasha Banks were both backstage at Summerslam too. The other 2 members of the 4 Horsewomen of NXT were involved in the Smackdown Women’s Championship match.

David Arquette was everywhere around Summerslam this year and it’s assumed he was backstage at some point as well.

Teddy Hart was backstage. He wrestled for Joey Janela’s Lost in New York on Friday and was likely wrestling somewhere nearby on Saturday or Sunday as well. Additionally, it is being said that both Carmella and Charlotte’s ring-gear yesterday, which were both pink, were worn in honor of Jim Neidhart.

Comedian Jon Stewart was at Summerslam but did not continue his rivalry with Seth Rollins.

PW Insider is also reporting that Stokely Hathaway, a manager from EVOLVE, was also backstage.

Former UFC Middleweight Champion, Chris Weidman, was in attendance. He tweeted out the following:

– Alexa Bliss’ title reign was nice while it lasted. Ronda Rousey scored a decisive win at SummerSlam and is the new queen of Monday nights. Will Alexa dare seek revenge from the Baddest Woman on the Planet?

– Will Drew McIntyre remain loyal to Dolph Ziggler now that DZ is no longer Intercontinental champion?

– The B Team continues to build their momentum. After a successful title defense on the SummerSlam kickoff show, will will step up to challenge the Raw tag team champions?

Braun Strowman Has New Target, Seth Rollins Give Credit To Dean Ambrose

14

Braun Strowman Has New Target

Plans didn’t go accordingly for Braun Strowman at Sunday’s (August 19, 2018) WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center on the WWE Network as he thought he would be walking out of the arena as the new Universal Champion.

Prior to the Universal Title match between then-champion Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns that ended up serving as the main event, Strowman came out and stated that he would cash-in his Money in the Bank briefcase after this match. However, that would not take place as Lesnar took him out. Reigns closed the show by celebrating in the ring. Following the match, Strowman tweeted that he has a new target in mind to cash-in his MITB briefcase.

“Objective remains the same. New target acquired. I still have my contract and someone is gonna get these hands. #SummerSlam.”

Seth Rollins Give Credit To Dean Ambrose

WWE’s YouTube channel has released a new interview where Mike Rome talks with newly crowned WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins about his big win over Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam with Dean Ambrose in his corner.

In the interview, Rollins noted that he wouldn’t be champion if it wasn’t for Dean Ambrose being in his corner and taking out Drew McIntyre.

Finn Balor Sums Up Demon Return With One Word, Carmella Reacts To Title Loss

2

Finn Balor Sums Up Demon Return With One Word

Former WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor surprised fans in his match against Baron Corbin that ended up being a squash match once he made his entrance dressed as his “Demon” character that saw him hit all of his signature moves to pick up the win in quick fashion at SummerSlam. On Monday morning, Balor took to his official Twitter account where he would only use one word to describe the return of his alter ego by writing, “Freedom.”

Carmella Reacts To Title Loss

Sunday’s (August 19, 2018) WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center on the WWE Network featured several title changes including the SmackDown Women’s Title as Carmella lost it to Charlotte Flair in a triple threat match that also had Becky Lynch compete in the match. Lynch would later turn heel by attacking Flair after the match.

This leads us to Carmella taking to Twitter to comment on the title loss by writing, “With friends like that… looks like @BeckyLynchWWE lost her best friend AND MY TITLE! #Unfair #SummerSlam.”

What were your thoughts on Balor bringing back the Demon? Should he dress up as the character more often? Sound off in the comment section.

CM Punk Featured In New Trailer For Netflix Competition Show

4

CM Punk is back in front of the camera except for this time, it won’t be for a WWE or UFC event. The former WWE Champion tweeted out to a link for the trailer that was released by Netflix for a new competition series that is titled “Ultimate Beastmaster: Survival Of The Fittest” that will be released on the streaming service later this month on August 31st.

Punk will co-host the show with former NFL running back Tiki Barber. Here is the synopsis and trailer for the new show:

“A new group of competitors with impressive athleticism and inspiring stories face the world’s toughest obstacle course. Tiki Barber and CM Punk host. Ultimate Beastmaster: Survival Of The Fittest” comes to Netflix on August 31”

Since he departed from the WWE in 2014 after the Royal Rumble PPV (pay-per-view) event, fans have wanted to see Punk compete in the squared circle again. Instead, he took his talents to the world famous Octagon in the UFC.

The former WWE Champion fought Mike Jackson in a welterweight bout at the UFC 225 pay-per-view event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

As seen in the fight, Jackson dominated it and Punk showed a ton of heart but was winded after the first round. Jackson was able to pick up the unanimous decision win.

He lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission.

Matt Hardy Begins Working as a WWE Producer

3

It appears WWE Superstar Matt Hardy began working as a backstage producer/agent at Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Last week, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported Matt Hardy will be taking extended time off soon to deal with several nagging injuries. His health will be re-evaluated later this year. At this time, there is no reason to assume Matt’s career is over. However, the report indicated that Matt Hardy’s in-ring future is in question.

With a long road ahead, the Woken one has been gearing up for the next chapter of his career. Hardy has been “shadowing” WWE producers, which could result in him transitioning to a backstage role full-time. Matt Hardy is a 25-year veteran and is considered to have a very high wrestling IQ. He has a wealth of knowledge to contribute to WWE storylines and could have a long future ahead with the company.

On Sunday afternoon, he tweeted that it was strange to be at SummerSlam in a ‘different capacity.’ Matt later tweeted this photo of himself with WWE broadcaster Mike Rome working together backstage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about Matt Hardy’s new backstage role.
