Kurt Angle Q&A: CM Punk’s Next UFC Fight, Teaming With Ronda Rousey, More

3

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently did a Q&A on Facebook and commented on a number of interesting topics.

During the session, a fan asked about UFC President Dana White confirming in a recent interview with TMZ Sports that CM Punk will indeed fight Mike Jackson next.

White did not confirm when they would fight but it’s likely going to be at UFC 225 pay-per-view event that is slated to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

“Punk is a talented kid. It’s up to him. If he shows up to fight he will do ok. He didn’t show up last time. He was there but he didn’t fight back.”

Angle is slated to team up with former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 34 in a Mixed Tag Team Match. He was asked about his game plan for the match.

“To WIN! I have to keep Ronda from getting frustrated. I know how HHH and Steph try to play mind games. Not on Sunday.”

Finally, he was asked about which match made him most nervous. Angle responded by stating, “WM19. I was injured prior to it. Brock had just started on the main roster. It was stressful.”

Gargano escapes and hits a series of stiff lariats and stiff slaps to the face. Ciampa comes back with a lariat of his own, but then Gargano drops him and locks in the Gargano Escape. Ciampa gouges the eyes to escape and Mauro calls him a sadistic son of a bitch.

Gargano gets on one knee next to Ciampa. Ciapa grabs the knee brace and goes to cheap shot Gargano, but Gargano dodges it and locks in the Gargano Escape. Daniel Bryan On Why He Wants Johnny Gargano To Lose At NXT TakeOver: New Orleans

4

SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan took part in a Q&A session during WrestleMania Axxess. Bryan was asked if he had his eyes set on any of the talent in NXT as SmackDown’s GM. The crowd briefly chanted “Johnny” before Bryan answered. Below is Daniel’s response:

“I have known one person specifically for a while. There is a ton of talent in NXT, I mean the tag match that you guys just saw with Jack Gallagher, Martin Stone (Danny Burch), Tony Nese and Oney Lorcan.. I mean those guys are just so talented. There are so many people on NXT who are extremely talented.

But there is one guy I want to lose tonight because I want to steal him and that is Johnny Gargano. I am making it public, I want Johnny Gargano on SmackDown Live!”

Johnny Gargano will battle Tommaso Ciampa tonight at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. Gargano and Ciampa were once a tag team in NXT, but Tommaso betrayed Johnny last year at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Ciampa then missed significant time due to an injury. During that time, Gargano became a star as a singles competitor and earned a shot at the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. Gargano came up just short in an excellent match against NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas. Ciampa returned after the match and stuck Gargano with a crutch on the entrance ramp. Gargano would get another shot at the NXT Championship on the February 21st episode of NXT. In order to be granted another shot at the title, Gargano had to put his NXT career on the line. Tommaso Ciampa interfered in the match, costing Gargano his opportunity at the NXT Championship and his career.

A month later, Johnny Gargano blended in with the crowd at Full Sail University and attacked Tommaso Ciampa while he was pacing around the ring. Ciampa asked NXT GM William Regal to do something about. Regal announced that Ciampa will face Gargano in an Unsanctioned match at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans. If Ciampa wins, Gargano is gone from NXT for good. If Gargano wins the match, he will be rejoin the NXT roster.

NXT TakeOver: New Orleans airs tonight on the WWE Network at 8 PM ET. There will also be an hour long Kickoff Show before the event starts. Join us here tonight on SEScoops for live coverage of NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.

David Arquette Jumps The Barricade At Event and Challenges Indie Star

5

Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette has challenged independent performer Mat Fitchett to a match. The controversial actor jumped the barricade during ‘Pancakes and Piledrivers,’ a co-branded AAW, Wrestling Revolver and Fight Club: Pro event that took place in New Orleans earlier today.

After defeating Aussie Open in the main event of the show Fitchett and his tag team partner called out Arquette who proceeded to jump the barricade and make his way into the ring. The former WCW Champion went on to mention his accolades in wrestling, including bouts with Jeff Jarrett, DDP and Eric Bischoff. He also went on to mention that WWE killed the WCW brand and that he had never been pinned in a wrestling ring…he ended his promo by saying “let’s set a date.”

Cody Rhodes Hypes ROH Supercard of Honor Match with Kenny Omega

1

Cody Rhodes has made his final comments before arguably Ring of Honor’s biggest event of the year. Supercard of Honor takes place tonight from the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans and is a co-branded event with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Cody, who has declared himself the ‘Leader’ of the Bullet Club faction will be taking on Kenny Omega, the man who many have felt has been positioned at the top of the NJPW stable since AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson left the company for WWE.

Cody stated on Twitter that his bout tonight will be “the match of the weekend.” With the hype surrounding this NJPW/ROH crossover feud and the in fighting/politics of the Bullet Club stable over the past few months it is difficult to argue that many matches outside of the WWE bubble have as much intrigue as this. This will also be the very first time that the two stars have faced one on one anywhere in the world.

You can order Supercard of Honor via the FITE TV App for $24.99. Full details can be found on FITE’s official website.

Dolph Ziggler Denies He’s Signed a New WWE Contract

9

Dolph Ziggler was reported to have signed a new WWE contract in mid-February but according to Ziggler himself, that’s not the case.

Reports were Ziggler had signed a 2-year deal with WWE worth $1.5 million. In a recent interview with Fox Sports, however, Ziggler says these reports simply aren’t true.

“I would love to get into that more but based on the internet, they told you I’d re-signed and I have not,” Ziggler said to Fox Sports.

Ziggler continued to say he is still negotiating with WWE on a new deal.

“I have a bunch of things going on and I don’t like taking days off and I don’t want to leave WWE but it’s great to have some options,” Ziggler said regarding what he wants to do.

“I’ve asked before to go away for a little while just so everyone can forget I lose 99 times out of 100 and it’s never really come through, so I might have to do it on my own and see what happens.”

It sounds as though Ziggler is leaning towards staying with WWE but would like to take some time away.

Dolph Ziggler’s WWE Contract

I’ve been able to track down the two sources which each claimed they had insider knowledge of Ziggler’s WWE deal. The first news of the contract was leaked by podcaster  Bill “the Hacker” Hamin. The podcaster mentioned he had insider information that Ziggler had agreed to a deal after almost leaving the company. Hamin did not report the signing as fact, however, more just as something he had heard.  Hacker Hamin Media has a series of podcasts and is also associated with Vince Russo’s the Brand.

Sports Illustrated’s weekly Extra Mustard column on wrestling by Justin Barrasso on February 14th, 2018 published news that Ziggler and WWE had reached an agreement.

“Ziggler, who opened and closed this week’s SmackDown, just signed a new two-year contract for a reported $1.5 million per year.” – Sports Illustrated Extra Mustard, February 14th, 2018.

Ziggler never mentioned during the interview why he never bothered to correct the rumors until now.

Update On The Undertaker’s Status At WrestleMania 34

20

We have some good news regarding the status of The Undertaker for WrestleMania weekend.

For several weeks now, WWE fans have been wondering when the WWE will announce that John Cena would face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34.

Cena has been laying down the challenge to “The Deadman” for a match at the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company. However, nothing has come about from it.

PWinsider.com is reporting that The Undertaker has been spotted in New Orleans, which is the site of WrestleMania 34.

It’s been reported for months that this match will happen at the show but in recent days there has been speculation that Taker could just have a stare down with Cena in the ring to lead to a match in the future. Either way, it’s safe to say that Taker is very likely to make an appearance at WrestleMania.

Frank The Clown Involved in ‘Incident’ with Joey Janela during Spring Break 2 PPV Event

1

Joey Janela and Game Changer Wrestling hosted the second ever ‘Spring Break’ PPV event last night from New Orleans. Last year’s event during WrestleMania weekend proved a huge hit and featured a vast array of more eclectic wrestling styles and stars from the past, including WCW’s Glacier.

Janela faced The Great Sasuke in the main event of ‘Spring Break 2’ in a great match with a bunch of wild spots, however one of the most talked about incidents happened before the bell when Janela ‘attacked’ wrestling personality Frank The Clown. Frank took to Twitter to respond to Janela’s ‘attack,’ he stated: “Go Figure. The Most talked about moment of Joey Janela’s stupid show yesterday involves me. Also, f*ck Joey Janela & the internet dorks.”

Whilst this is likely part of a worked storyline it is worth checking out the ‘attack’ via the tweet below:

Paul Heyman Praises Tommaso Ciampa

2

Paul Heyman only throws his name behind talent he sees something in and it’s evident he sees something in Tommaso Ciampa.

The 32-year-old Ciampa has been involved in a buzz-worthy rivalry with his former tag-team partner, Johnny Gargano, on NXT recently. Gargano was expelled from the brand due to his loss in a career vs title match with Andrade “Cien” Almas. Despite this, he has come back to haunt his rival, Ciampa on several occasions.

Gargano has stocked Ciampa in the NXT parking lot, at his home, and anywhere he can get his hands on him. In response, Ciampa requested an unsanctioned match with Gargano which will take place tonight at Takeover: New Orleans.

Paul Heyman and his Looking 4 Larry agency have recently signed a deal with Banca Studios to produce un-scripted content.

CM Punk and Batista Argue Over Chick Peas at Comic Expo (VIDEO)

41

CM Punk and Batista were both at the C2E2 expo in Chicago recently. An interaction between the two former wrestlers involved Punk not wanting to eat chickpeas.

Batista posted the following on Twitter:

Batista and CM Punk Career Similarities

Punk and Batista’s careers have followed a somewhat similar pattern. Both were champion wrestlers who left the business to pursue other interests. Each of them has a professional MMA fight on their resume, tho Batista won his and Punk lost.

They’ve each been employed by Marvel as well as Punk has written an edition of the Thor graphic novels and Batista has a reoccurring role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It does not appear they share the same interest in chickpeas, however.

Bruce Pritchard Podcast to Debut on WWE Network

3

A popular podcast hosted by Conrad Thompson (engaged to Ric Flair’s daughter, Meghan) and Bruce Pritchard (Brother Love) will be making its way to the WWE Network.

The “Something to Wrestle with Podcast” has gained a loyal following of listeners due to the often comical but always interesting content. Pritchard has a lot of insight into what went on inside WWE during the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

Pritchard’s WWE Firing in 2008

After spending 22 years with the company, WWE fired Pritchard in 2008. His firing was largely seen as a move made by Stephanie McMahon. It was reported at the time that Stephanie was not high on Pritchard and had called him out in front of others during several meetings.

Pritchard spent five years with TNA Wrestling in a backstage role before being officially released by the company in 2013. He would return to the company briefly in 2017.

For starters, the end of season 4 saw Dario Cueto shot and bleeding in his office, though it was never clear if he had died. Lucha Underground has also announced season 4 will take place inside a different temple.

Filming for the season began in late February and continued throughout March. Earlier seasons of Lucha Underground are available on Netflix.

Paul Heyman inducted Goldberg into the WWE Hall of Fame tonight on the WWE Network. Heyman introduced himself as the advocate for Brock Lesnar. Heyman noted that it may have crossed people’s mind that the former owner of ECW is inducting a WCW star into the WWE Hall of Fame. Heyman stated that he aspires to be half the father that Goldberg is to his son.

Paul added that on a professional level it is difficult to find opponents for Brock Lesnar. Heyman stated that they needed to find someone to kick Brock Lesnar’s ass after he ended The Undertaker’s streak and took Cena to Suplex City. They needed to find someone that could beat Brock Lesnar and people would buy into it and that sure as hell ain’t Roman Reigns. Heyman noted that everyone chanted Goldberg’s name when he took the fight to Brock Lesnar. Heyman then introduced Goldberg as the main event of the class of 2018.

Goldberg exited his room and walked backstage as people cheered him on. Goldberg came onto the stage and shared a hug with Paul Heyman. Goldberg waved to the crowd as they chanted his name. Goldberg started off his speech by asking “how the hell did this happen?”.

Goldberg joked that just like this matches, his speech will be short. He said that his journey began in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is the son of Ethel and Dr. Jed Goldberg. Goldberg stated that his parents instilled values in him to be successful and to give everything he has at every time and to treat everyone like you wanted to be treated. Goldberg thanked his sister and said that she basically raised him as his parents duked it out in a bitter divorce.

He thanked his brothers and called him great guys to look up to. Goldberg said that all he ever wanted to do was to be in the NFL and to be a role model for children. He added that he a successful college career at the University of Georgia and played for the Atlanta Falcons, which drew some boos from the New Orleans crowd.

Goldberg said that an injury and an utter lack of talent ended his football career, so he had move on. Goldberg added that he was lost and had no money. Goldberg pointed to DDP in the crowd and said that he always suggested that he should come and learn how to wrestle. Goldberg brought up watching wrestling with his grandmother every Saturday night and that his favorite was Bruiser Brody.

Goldberg stated that with the help of a lot of people, they came up with the character Goldberg. He added that his set up move was so devastating that it was easy to copy, and then asked where Roman Reigns was. Goldberg stated that he had no idea that he was going to wrestle Hulk Hogan until he saw it on TV on a Thursday night. Goldberg added that he owes Hogan one and continued with his speech.

He noted that WCW came crashing down and brought up Kevin Nash ending his streak on his birthday and said he owes him one too. He thanked Bischoff for giving him his shot and that he is greatly appreciative of that. Goldberg brought up Arn Anderson, Kevin Sullivan and Bobby Heenan. Goldberg thanked everyone behind the scenes and said that he owes thanks to so many people. He stated that he doesn’t believe that there has ever been a character that depended on so many moving parts, like the announcers and referee Charles Robinson.

Goldberg mentioned Lex Luger, the Steiner Brothers, the Guerrero family, Ron Simmons, Curt Hennig and Rick Rude and said that they were a huge influence on his career. Goldberg joked that Big Show hated to be upside down in the Jackhammer. Goldberg then thanked Jim Ross and stated that they go way back. He said that the first phone call he made about getting into this business was to Jim Ross.

He stated that he knew that there was a price to pay in WWE and noted screaming at Triple H in front of Stephanie McMahon at a toy convention in NYC. Goldberg admitted that he kind of copied Stone Cold with his look and thanked him. He admitted that he sucked in 2003-2004 and quickly moved on. Goldberg stated that he still resents it to this day, but thanked Steve Austin for helping him out and said that he loved him.

Goldberg said that he walked around with a chip on his shoulder after his first run in WWE. He claimed that it was a difficult time and that he was not proud of how he performed and acted in his first run. Goldberg said then he had a family and wondered what his son would think about wrestling. He added that it all started with WWE 2K17 and that it seemed as if time had healed some of the wounds.

Goldberg started training 6 days a week and worked his ass off because he wanted it again. It wasn’t just a job, he loves you people and loves being that guy for you. 50-years-old, 12 years away from the business and it was time to come back. Goldberg thanked his wife and then said pointed at his son Gage and said that he did this for him. He said that their support pushed him to a level he didn’t know that he could to get to and added that he just wanted them to experience the wrestling world.

He thanked his wife, Wanda, and noted that her only goal in his return was to see him erase his wrestling demons and be at peace. Goldberg said that he was so proud to be Gage’s father and the he was his world. Goldberg thanked his in-laws and joked that that they had no clue what they were in for when they entered this world. He then thanked all of his friends for helping him along the way.

Goldberg then thanked the fans and said that they made him love wrestling. He said that he will do anything for the fans and a “one more chant” broke out. Goldberg then told a story about Stephanie McMahon telling him that he cannot headbutt the doors before he goes down to the ring. Goldberg joked about cutting his head open when he returned and forgetting what he was supposed to say during a promo. Goldberg told Stephanie that he had to get into character and he would pay for the doors. Stephanie once again said no. When the time came for his entrance, he punched the door instead and broke his hand and admitted that nobody knew up that until tonight. Goldberg then was in the ring with Austin later that night and said that he drank 13 beers because his hand hurt so damn much.

Goldberg then said that there was a guy sitting right in front of him that influenced his decision to become a wrestler. He said that he looked as Sting as a man and not as wrestler. Goldberg said that he admired Sting because he had integrity. Goldberg added that Sting and DDP made him and he will forever be grateful for that.

He said that he originally looked at wrestling as just a business, but has truly acquired a love for the fans and the dreams that wrestling has made come true for people. He added that this was a much better payoff than the NFL Hall of Fame ever would have. Goldberg said that he realizes more so than ever before that there is where he belongs. He then boasted about being 2-1 over Brock Lesnar and having the strength to Jackhammer anyone in the room and has the knowledge & wisdom to know that a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket could never be as badass as a Georgia Bulldog. Goldberg said that he had one final question and shouted “who’s next?” to end the speech.
