Correction On WWE Bringing Back WarGames Again This Year

16

Earlier this week, we ran a report citing AXS.com that WWE will be bringing back WarGames once again this year for the NXT Takeover event that takes place during Survivor Series weekend. That report has since been debunked and the original article has been removed from that website

WWE revived the beloved WarGames concept match in November for the NXT Takeover event that took place from Houston, Texas. The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly) defeated the Authors of Pain/Roderick Strong and SAnitY in the first-ever WarGames match under the WWE umbrella.

While it’s possible that we could see WarGames return once more, there has been no official announcement regarding the match at this time.

Tickets are now on sale for Survivor Series 2018 weekend, with the Staples Center in Los Angeles playing host to NXT Takeover, Survivor Series, Raw and SmackDown.

Jinder Mahal Wants “British Bulldog” In WWE HOF

9

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal recently did an interview with The Independent to talk about several professional wrestling topics. During the interview, “The Modern Day Maharaja” made the case for “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame:

“[British Bulldog] had a great, storied career. From tagging with The Dynamite Kid to breaking out on his own, his career had a great evolution,” said Mahal. “He started in Stampede Wrestling in Calgary for Stu Hart and before that had been training in England before being brought in with Dynamite, and of course that classic, classic match against Bret Hart at Summerslam – that’s one of my all-time favorite matches.

“He’s just a great, great superstar in the history of WWE, so I don’t think it is a matter of if he’ll be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but when he’ll become a member.”

Mahal also discussed his historic WWE Title loss to AJ Styles last year. Mahal dropped the strap to “The Phenomenal One” during a pre-taped episode of SmackDown Live overseas in Manchester, England. It was the first WWE Title change in WWE history to occur overseas:

“It was the very first time in the history of WWE that the title had changed hands overseas. History was made that night and the match was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve said this before, but I feel that although I lost, I really won that night. The energy in the arena that night was amazing and AJ Styles really is phenomenal – the fans just love him.

“I think he might be the number one, top star in WWE in terms of fan reaction because everybody loves him. Everyone that night was genuinely so happy for him, so it was a little bit bittersweet for me. I was laying on my back on the mat with my eyes closed, listening to the reaction of the crowd and a couple of tears fell in the ring, of happiness as everyone was so pleased for him. It was a very cool moment and it was a moment I’ll never forget.”

New Name Confirmed For 2018 WWE HOF, SDL Star Continues To Rehab Injury, WWE & Snickers Extend Partnership

14

– Earlier today WrestleVotes reported that their sources noted Hillbilly Jim is one name, that’s not being talked about, that is expected to be inducted into the 2018 WWE Hall Of Fame:

Just hours later Bleacher Report confirmed the news and even got a reaction from Jim on the news:

“I didn’t have that on my mind whatsoever,” Jim told Bleacher Report. “For a moment or two, I was knocked back on my heels. Basically, I was speechless. It was a whole lot for me to digest quickly.”

– As we’ve noted, Samir Singh has been rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL. Following surgical repair, Singh is expected to miss 6-9 months of action. He posted the following on Twitter to update the WWE Universe on his recovery:

– WWE has announced the following:

WWE and Snickers expand WrestleMania partnership

For the third consecutive year, Snickers will serve as the exclusive presenting partner of WrestleMania 34, one of the biggest sports and entertainment events in the world. WrestleMania, WWE’s annual pop-culture extravaganza, will take place Sunday, April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans and stream live around the world on WWE Network.

Snickers’ presenting partnership of WrestleMania is highlighted by custom content produced by WWE for Snickers, which will feature Superstars and the brand’s popular “‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry”‘ campaign. The creative will appear across WWE’s global digital and social platforms, which includes the No. 1 sports channel and No. 2 channel overall in the world on YouTube, on the award-winning WWE Network, and on WWE’s flagship TV programs — Monday Night Raw and SmackDown LIVE — on USA Network, a long-standing Snickers partner.

As part of the agreement, Snickers will have promotional activity at WrestleMania Axxess – WWE’s four-day, interactive fan festival, presence at WWE Live Events leading up to WrestleMania, retail promotions, as well as custom digital and social content, including a branded WWE.com and YouTube series hosted by WWE digital correspondent Cathy Kelley. Snickers will also leverage WWE’s Instagram page, which has more than 14 million followers – the most of any major sport – with a sponsored Instagram story on the day of WrestleMania.

“We’re thrilled to partner with WWE for a third consecutive year as the presenting sponsor of WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans,” said Michael Italia, Senior Brand Manager, Snickers Brand. “The animated personalities of WWE cannot afford to be hungry in the ring, which makes our partnership that much more of an authentic extension of our ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ campaign. We’re eager to connect with WWE’s passionate fan base in person and across social media this year, as this event continues to grow in attendance and engagement.”

“As one of the biggest sports and entertainment events in the world, WrestleMania will again provide Snickers a global platform to deliver their award-winning ‘You’re Not You When You’re Hungry’ campaign,” said John Brody, WWE Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Head of International. “Our continued WrestleMania partnership with Snickers is a result of innovative and entertaining collaborations that engaged our passionate fans worldwide.”

Additionally, Snickers will be the presenting sponsor of the WrestleMania block party at Champions Square outside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which is free and open to the public, and will include fun-filled entertainment areas with music, games and food.

Snickers is also currently conducting a retail sweepstakes on U.S. military bases that will give 25 winners free access to stream WrestleMania on WWE Network.

Last year, Snickers’ WrestleMania 33 presenting partnership resulted in nearly three3 billion impressions for Snickers across WWE’s global platforms, including video content integrations within Monday Night Raw and SmackDown LIVE on USA Network, digital and social media, WWE Network, live events and retail appearances by WWE Superstars. WrestleMania 33 was the most-social event in WWE history, and set a new Orlando Citrus Bowl attendance record of 75,245 fans, which led to the highest-grossing event in the stadium’s history at $14.5 million.

Ronda Rousey’s Status For Tonight’s RAW Confirmed

3

Tonight Monday Night RAW will be live from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and fans are wondering whether or not Ronda Rousey will be on WWE TV this week to further her storyline with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. PWInsider is reporting that Rousey is in Milwaukee and will be on tonight’s episode of RAW. Rousey made her WWE debut back at the Royal Rumble this past January after the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match.

After Asuka won the match, Rousey came out to confront “The Empress Of Tomorrow,” RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, and SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. She pointed at the WrestleMania 34 sign and indicated her intentions to wrestle at the event. Rousey’s next WWE appearance came at Elimination Chamber where she signed her RAW contract with General Manager Kurt Angle, WWE COO Triple H, and RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon.

Angle suggested that “The Game” and Stephanie were manipulating Rousey because of their incident with her at WrestleMania 31, which led to “The Rowdy One” putting Triple H through a table. Stephanie slapped Rousey in retaliation before fleeing the ring. The next night on RAW the four seemed to clear the air after several apologies, but Triple H sucker-punched Angle before leaving the ring to end the show. It’s rumored Rousey and Angle will team up at WrestleMania 34 against Stephanie and Triple H in a Mixed Tag match.

Tonight will likely further the foursome’s storyline heading into “The Showcase Of The Immortals.”

Details On The Planning For Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania Match

13

Ronda Rousey is expected to team up with Monday Night RAW General Manager and WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 34 to take on the team of WWE COO Triple H and RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon. That match has been set up in the past few weeks at Elimination Chamber and on RAW. During Rousey’s RAW contract signing at Elimination Chamber, Rousey put Triple H through a table after Angle noted that he and Stephanie had been manipulating her.

The next night on RAW the four seemed to clear the air after several apologies, however, Triple H hit Angle with a cheap shot before leaving the ring to end the show. It’s expected that the feud between the four will continue to develop on tonight’s episode of RAW from Milwaukee. Kurt Angle and Triple H are expected to work most of the Mixed Tag match at WrestleMania.

It’s also expected that the entire match is going to be mapped out move-for-move with Angle and Hunter carrying most of the load, building up to spots between Stephanie and Ronda. There has also been some speculation as of late as to whether or not Rousey’s husband, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, would be her partner instead to make the match more of a husband and wife storyline.

Browne has also been training alongside Rousey inside the ring. WWE decided not to go that route as it would leave Triple H to carry the match with three inexperienced in-ring performers on the biggest show of the year.

WWE executives Vince McMahon and Triple H were in Saudi Arabia last week finalizing this new partnership. Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Saudi General Sports, tweeted this photo last week:

Chris Jericho Says He’s Done With NJPW, Updated Card For Strong Style Evolved

6

Chris Jericho says he won’t be working for New Japan Pro Wrestling again in the near future. Jericho’s program with Kenny Omega that culminated at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom back on January 4th was the talk of the wrestling world for months. Their feud had everyone talking and the match itself delivered, earning the coveted 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer.

Jericho made a surprise appearance the following night at New Year’s Dash when he attacked Tetsuya Naito, presumably jumpstarting a new feud and extending his run with New Japan. A match between the two was rumored for the Strong Style Evolved show from Long Beach, California (3/25), but that show sold out without any word of Jericho appearing. It was rumored that New Japan would hold of on booking Chris Jericho until later, when they could use his drawing power to sell tickets.

According to Jericho, he has no future plans to work for the Japanese promotion. Jericho is known to work fans on social media and mislead the public to maximize the impact of his surprise appearances, so the door is never fully closed with him. When asked if he was done with New Japan, the Alpha replied:

Here’s a look at the updated card for Strong Style Evolved later this month:

– The Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) vs The Young Bucks.

– IWGP United States champion Jay White vs. Adam “Hangman” Page.

– Rey Mysterio vs. Jushin Liger

WWE RAW Preview: Nia Jax vs. Asuka, WrestleMania Build

3

Tonight’s edition of Monday Night RAW takes place from Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Asuka will put her undefeated streak on the line against Nia Jax. The Royal Rumble winner has yet to decide her WrestleMania opponent. RAW Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is not scheduled to appear, but will be there next week.

With less than 5 weeks until WrestleMania, WWE.com is hyping the following items for tonight:

– How will Ronda Rousey repay Triple H and Stephanie McMahon?

Our Take: It certainly seems that RAW General Manager Kurt Angle will be Rousey’s partner against Stephanie and Triple H. It remains to be seen if Ronda Rousey will be on hand for RAW, but Angle might have to answer for Rousey’s actions.

– Why didn’t Lesnar confront Reigns?

Our take: Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman no-showed last week, which led to a scathing promo by Reigns about Lesnar being a part-timer who isn’t giving his all like the rest of the WWE locker room. Brock returned to action over the weekend in Chicago, defeating Kane in approximately 30 seconds. Fans in attendance weren’t happy about Lesnar working less than a minute, further playing into this narrative. Has WWE found an angle that will get Reigns cheered over Lesnar at WrestleMania?

– Who will face The Miz at WrestleMania?

Our Take: Seth Rollins and Finn Balor are in the hunt for an IC title shot against The Miz at WrestleMania. A case could be made that a singles match between two of these three competitors is a better play than a triple threat, but this has the potential to be one of the better matches at WrestleMania.

– Will Elias “get these hands”?

Our Take: Strowman has been on such a roll this past year that Elias has to be seen as a disappointing WrestleMania opponent. We’ll see if that program extends through April.

Join us here later tonight for our live coverage of WWE RAW.

Update On Ex-WWE Star Sunny Following Latest Arrest, New Shoot Interview Trailer

6

– Tammy Sytch, also known as Sunny in WWE, remains incarcerated in Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, New Jersey after being arrested last Tuesday on charges of two counts of fugitive from justice and six counts of contempt of court. According to a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider on Sunday, an official at the facility said she is being held until Pennsylvania authorities arrive to extradite her back to Carbon County, Pennsylvania, where she is a wanted fugitive for violating the terms of her parole set in February 2017.

After that legal situation is resolved, Sytch will be extradited back to New Jersey to face her most recent charges.

TMZ Sports reported on Friday that Sytch was arrested for DUI on two separate occasions a few weeks before her latest arrest. She had been on probation for three DUI arrests in 2015.

Sytch was arrested for DUI in New Jersey on Jan. 23 at 8:53 p.m. She was then involved in an automobile accident on Feb. 2 at 8:52 a.m. and cops say she fled the scene. Sytch was tracked down and cited for DUI, as well as leaving the scene of an accident.

She was then charged with failing to appear in court for either of the two arrests, which led to her arrest on Tuesday.

Click here for additional background on her legal troubles in recent years.

– On Saturday, Title Match Wrestling released the trailer for Tammy Sytch’s latest shoot interview, Reflections with Tammy Sytch – Always Shining.

NXT Star Suffers Knee Injury At Live Event In Indianapolis (Photos)

6

Bobby Fish, who holds the NXT Tag Team Championship with Kyle O’Reilly, sustained a knee injury at tonight’s NXT live event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Fish was teaming with O’Reilly against Heavy Machinery in an NXT Tag Team Championship Match when he suffered the injury, leading to match official Drake Wuertz throwing up the “X” signal after he rolled out of the ring.

Once outside the ring, Fish began clutching his knee. Medical personnel immediately tended to Fish and he was assisted to the backstage area.

According to a fan in attendance, Fish tweaked his knee and O’Reilly had to wrestle solo against Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic. This led to Adam Cole running out to distract Dozovic, with O’Reilly securing a win with a roll up.

Rusev Day Runs Wild In ROH, WWE Fastlane 2016 Full Match (Video)

It’s Rusev Day In Ring Of Honor

There’s no doubt that Rusev is enjoying success outside of the stereotypical foreign heel. Since aligning himself with Aiden English, fans have taken note of Rusev’s more personable character. It also helps that he has a new catchphrase.

“Rusev Day” has not only taken over crowds, but also WWE’s merchandising. The company recently stocked up on more Rusev Day calendars after the first batch sold out quicker than expected. Despite the success, Rusev hasn’t exactly been booked to thrive on SmackDown Live. Some weeks he doesn’t even make an appearance and the Bulgarian hasn’t been shy to take issue with it.

At a recent ROH event, fans were seen chanting Rusev Day. The current WWE superstar had an intriguing response:

They’ve already released Paige vs. Nikki Bella from 2015 as well as Bayley vs. Charlotte and Kevin Owens vs. Goldberg from last year. This time, it’s Owens vs. Ziggler from 2016. At the time, Owens was the Intercontinental champion and put his title on the line against “The Showoff.”

DDP And The Big Show Offer Thoughts On Ronda Rousey’s Potential

10

There has been, and will be, a lot of talk around Ronda Rousey before she makes her in-ring debut as an official WWE superstar, with many offering their opinions on the UFC Champion’s potential in the world of sports entertainment.

Since Rousey was seen slamming Triple H through a table at Elimination Chamber, WWE Hall of Famer DDP spoke to UPI.com.

“I think she’ll put the work in, she’ll have to. Because it’s completely different from UFC. I think Ronda brings a lot. She really put women’s sports at the top of the list. She’s the main event. If you look back…there is no way there is ever going to be women’s fighting in UFC. She had a whole different vision. Not too many years after that she was headlining the main event. It really put her in a huge spot. And she had a great career. And I’m sure she’s pretty much moved on from that and she’s on to the next one.”

Diamond Dallas Page explained that it may not happen straight away, and she may not be unbelievable, but he stated that he thinks she’ll hold her own in the ring.

“Again, wrestling is all about believability, Believing in the character.”

“That’s why I think she’ll be successful. Do I think it’s going to take some time? You know I do. If you go back to her run in the UFC, it was almost Tyson-esque. It’s the same thing that Mike did coming in and boxing. She did it with tapouts.”

“She comes with a rep and it’s a good one […] Look what women’s sports are doing today. We’d probably never see any of these amazing fighters in the UFC. WWE, the girls there are serious. She has some great talent there and they aren’t there to hurt her.”

Along with DDP, The Big Show also spoke with UPI.com about Ronda’s new career in sports entertainment.

“You can tell she’s excited about our business and what we do […] As far as the brand the notoriety she brings to our industry, I think it’s an incredible opportunity for WWE and WWE fans as well as Ronda Rousey fans.”

The world’s largest athlete highlighted her presence, athletic ability, and entertainment skills as things to watch out for, stating that ‘she’s just going to be overwhelming’.

“It’s going to raise the bar a little bit in our women’s division. Our women’s division is the strongest it has ever been. It’s so strong, it has actually attracted the talent like Ronda Rousey to want to come and be a part of it….I think it’s absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to see what she does in the ring.”

Opinion:

Is anyone else slightly concerned about the amount of pressure being built up?  There’s a lot at stake for her and WWE.  I know that she’s a professional of course, and will have gone through as much training as possible, but surely there’s still a chance that this all flops?

Update On Tammy Sytch (Sunny) Following Arrest Last Week

15

Tammy Sytch, also known as former WWE star Sunny, was being held in Monmouth County Jail in New Jersey as of Saturday on $6,000 bond after being arrested earlier in the week.

According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, Sytch was arrested on Tuesday in New Jersey by the Aberdeen Township Police Department on charges of two counts of fugitive from justice and six counts of contempt of court.

TMZ Sports reported on Friday that Sytch was arrested for DUI on two separate occasions this year before Tuesday’s arrest.

She then was charged with failing to appear in court for either of the two arrests, which led to her being held in jail on Tuesday. She also has a bench warrant for an arrest in Carbon County, Pennsylvania from last August due to a probation violation.

Sytch, who turned 45 years old in December, has been arrested several times in recent years. In 2012, she was arrested five times in a four-week span, for disorderly conduct, third-degree burglary, and three counts of violating a protective order. She was arrested a sixth time in January 2013, also for violating a protective order. She served 114 days in jail and was released in May 2013.

In January 2016, Sytch pleaded guilty to driving while under suspension. On August 18, 2016, a judge sentenced her to 90 days in jail but counted her 97 days in rehab as jail credit. On September 23, 2016, 18 days into her probation, Sytch was arrested for violating her parole. The arrest was due to three DUI arrests in 2015. Sytch remained in jail on these charges through her arraignment in January 2017. She was fined $1,496.45 for the remaining charges and released on February 3, 2017.

Sytch has been semi-active on the independent wrestling scene in recent months with autograph signings and appearances at shows. Three days before her last arrest, she appeared for MCW Pro Wrestling in Hollywood, Maryland, managing fellow WWE Hall of Famer “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan.

Brock Lesnar Returns To The Ring At WWE Live Event In Chicago (Video And Photos)

14

In his first match since the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January, Universal Champion Brock Lesnar returned to the ring on Saturday night at a WWE live event in Chicago, Illinois.

His return, however, was brief as “The Beast” beat Kane with the F-5 in just 35 seconds at the United Center.

You can watch the match in its entirety in the video below.

Earlier in the week, Lesnar and his advocate Paul Heyman did not appear on Raw as originally scheduled. His absence led to an angle where his WrestleMania 34 opponent, Roman Reigns, revealed that Lesnar never came to the arena for their scheduled confrontation. Reigns called Lesnar “an entitled piece of crap who hides behind his contract” and lambasted him for what he claimed was a disrespectful attitude toward fans and WWE.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Injured During Match On Friday Night

27

With rumors swirling that Rey Mysterio is on his way back to WWE, the legendary wrestler is reportedly injured.

According to a report tonight by Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, Mysterio is believed to have torn his left biceps during a tag team match on Friday night in Waterbury, Connecticut for Northeast Wrestling.

Meltzer doesn’t know the injury’s extent other than Mysterio believes he tore the muscle during the match, where he teamed with Flip Gordon against Joey Mercury and Caleb Konley. According to those who saw Mysterio backstage after the bout, there was heavy swelling in his left arm.

The Reason WWE Changed Apollo’s Name Confirmed

30

Last month Sportskeeda’s Daniel Wood reported that WWE decided to change Apollo Crews’ name to simply, Apollo, to avoid any sort of collusion with Valentine’s Day Parkland high school shooter Nikolus Cruz. Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida and killed 17 people, injuring several others as well. Despite the two names having different spellings, Vince McMahon made the call to avoid any association whatsoever.

The report was questioned by many after WWE denied sending out any sort of email saying that the shooting was the reason WWE changed Apollo’s name to the media, which Sportskeeda claimed to have. Wrestling Observer Newsletter now reports, however, that the people who did see the internal company emails can confirm the name change was due to the Parkland shooting.

WWE didn’t want the story to get out which is why they originally said they didn’t leak the news to any media source, however, they never flat out denied the story.
