Hulk Hogan Reveals His Status For Next Week’s WWE Raw 25

14

A fan asked former WWE Champion Hulk Hogan if he would be appearing on the 25th Anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw on January 22nd. He responded with the following:

Hogan was fired from WWE in the summer of 2015 after racially charged comments from a sex tape came to light. Gawker alleged that Hogan only filed a lawsuit against them to prevent the racial statements from being released.

Hogan’s WWE return has depended on the company being reasonably sure that bringing him back won’t cause a big backlash due to his racist comments. It’s possible that WWE hires him in an Ambassador role.

WWE Announces The Signing Of Ricochet

25

After months of speculation, WWE confirmed on Tuesday that international wrestling sensation Ricochet (Trevor Mann) has signed with the company. He’s already reported to  WWE’s world-class Performance Center training facility in Orlando, FL.

Ricochet, widely considered one of the top free agents in the world, has thrilled wrestling fans around the world with his work in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Lucha Underground, PWG, MLW and other independents.

https://twitter.com/kingricochet/status/953279021172842496

WWE’s official announcement reads, “Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 188 pounds, Mann brings an astonishing assortment of aerial moves to the ring. He first earned notoriety in Japan for an eye-popping double-moonsault, and his 630° senton remains one of the most potent weapons in his arsenal. Mann, who credits Guerrero, Rey Mysterio and The Rock as three of his in-ring influences, was inspired to pursue sports-entertainment after watching The Great One and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin do battle at WrestleMania XV.”

The reference to Ricochet’s weight could be an indication that he’s bound for 205 Live and the Cruiserweight division.

NJPW/ROH tag team War Machine is also expected to be joining the Performance Center this month.

Paige Addresses Neck Injury, Says 2018 Will Be Her Year

23

As reported on Monday, WWE Superstar Paige was backstage at RAW from San Antonio. Due to the career-threatening injury that she suffered at the hands of Sasha Banks last month, WWE has confirmed she will not be competing in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match.

In this RAW Fallout video, Paige briefly addressed her neck injury, but didn’t say much aside from the fact that she’ll be at the Rumble to support her Absolution partners Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. In the event that Paige is not not cleared to compete again in the near future, she could serve as a manager/mentor of sorts to Deville and Rose.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Paige’s future as an in-ring competitor, the original Anti-Diva maintains an optimistic outlook for what’s ahead in the year to come.

Jim Ross And Jerry Lawler Praised Ahead of RAW Anniversary

2

It has been confirmed that Jim Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler will feature on RAW’s 25th Anniversary episode.  The two commentary legends have a long and successful history with WWE, and have become synonymous with professional wrestling commentary.

Triple H recently spoke to USA Today’s “For The Win” to promote the historic episode of RAW, where he highlighted and praised the careers of these two commentary giants.

Some people just have chemistry with each other

The Game pinpointed Lawler’s knowledge and understanding of the business, as well as his ability to turn situations on their head with humour, or the inflection of his voice.  Contrast that with ‘the straight man’ attitude and persona of JR, and it makes an extremely effective duo.  Triple H explained that while Lawler has his excitement and energy, JR provides the intensity, passion, and a sense of realism.

“I would see JR […] on the edge of his seat like every fan in the arena, because at the end of the day he’s just a fan and he was going crazy for what we did, but that’s what made him so good. When you put that energy that he and Jerry [brought] together, it was magical.”

Moreover, it’s their dedication beyond being commentators which is also admirable.

Jim Ross recently appeared on the Unsanction Podcast, where he discussed Shelton Benjamin, as well as disagreements with Vince McMahon.

The commentary legend explained that Shelton Benjamin was a top worker, but the timing always seemed to be off whenever he was in a position to win a heavyweight championship title.  Ross continued by describing Benjamin’s ability on the mic as his main downfall.

But JR was also able to be critical of himself:

“I wasn’t the easiest guy to manage. The story about McMahon used to give J.R. hell; he did sometimes. But guess what, guys? I deserved it sometimes. I deserved to get my ass taken to the woodshed. I’m not infallible, I’m a human being, I have strong opinions, and sometimes I forget who my audience is. And also, I was like one of those guys that I don’t like now and disagreed with every damn thing you say – if you don’t agree with everything I say, you’re an idiot, and I used to think that.”

It’s clear to see that Triple H’s praise seems to be mirrored by Jim Ross’ attitude towards his own work, career, and passion:

“If you’re asking if I could carry the mail on today’s WWE product, absolutely. I like to consider myself a 40-plus year broadcaster. I’ve done boxing, I’ve done MMA, I’ve done NFL, I’ve done XFL. I’d like to think I’m a broadcaster/storyteller. And I believe that if I couldn’t adapt, it’d be on me, not on the product. Because product’s what it is. I’ve done everything from WrestleMania to Smokey Mountain Wrestling. It’s all different man.”

Opinion/Discussion:

Is the combination of Jim Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler the ultimate commentary team in professional wrestling, let alone just WWE?

Top SmackDown Star Reportedly Pulled From Live Events Due To Injury

8

Just recently it was reported that Jason Jordan has been injured and now another top WWE star has reportedly been pulled from weekend’s house shows due to injury.

Former Universal Champion Kevin Owens did not appear on the last two SmackDown Brand Live Events despite being advertised for it which left people speculating.

Now Pwinsider is reporting that the SmackDown Live Star was pulled from these shows because of an existing injury he has been working through. Although at this point, no further details about his condition are available.

Thankfully, the belief is that his injury is not serious and Officials prevented him from wrestling at these shows as a precautionary measure so he is not too banged up to work at Royal Rumble.

As of this writing, Kevin Owens is still advertised for the SmackDown episode tonight but whether or not he’ll be wrestling at the show is yet to be seen.

Owens along with his partner Sami Zayn is scheduled to challenge the current WWE Champion AJ Styles for his title in a 2-on-1 handicap match at the Royal Rumble PPV next Sunday.

Attitude Era Superstar Features On The Steve Austin Show

3

The veteran superstar, Al Snow, has featured on The Steve Austin Show, where he discussed Matt Hardy’s winning formula found in the Broken persona, as well as the industry as a whole.

The detailed podcast is well worth a listen, given the opportunity, as Al Snow goes into some detail, with disagreements about the style and purpose of professional wrestling.  Below are just some of the highlights that are worth noting.

The main concept that Al Snow disagrees with centers around the professional wrestling industry.  Snow states that many in the industry say that “wrestling has changed” and is focused primarily on putting on a performance.  From his perspective, Al Snow disagrees and explains that wrestling has always been and should always be about competition and fighting for a championship, and to be the best.  Why else would you have titles to compete for?

“Give the audience what they paid to believe, which is that it’s a real competition, that the outcome has gravity to it, that the guys are prizefighters no different than a boxer or an MMA fighter in that they actually try to win, not just put on a physical performance. And the wrestlers worldwide have gotten so far away from that concept that makes you wonder.”

The 6-time Hardcore Champion explains that modern day professionals use this excuse to cover up weak psychology or execution.

It isn’t clear exactly who Al Snow is referring to, whether his words are a sweeping statement which covers the entire industry, or if he is singling out a mid-card selection; but as a trainer, he’s extremely passionate about the topic either way.

Later in the podcast the two legends discuss kayfabe, with Matt Hardy being used as the ultimate example.

“Matt Hardy got over so well when he did his ‘broken’ thing in TNA was because he never broke character. He never gave the audience anything other than what he sold them. He sold them a ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy every time he was in public.”

Snow’s comments go against the flow of someone like Austin Creed, who uses a behind-the-scenes approach to engage the audience in his own YouTube channel UpUpDownDown.  Creed hosts videogame tournaments on SmackDown Live and RAW, where both heels and faces appear outside of their in-ring persona.  Although Snow didn’t comment on this specifically, it is easy to see how something like UpUpDownDown can break kayfabe.

Al also praises Matt Hardy for utilising several easy to grasp and clear points within his persona; this enables anyone to describe him in a clear-cut setence, rather than a confusing and convoluted paragraph.

“You need that character that they can relate to because they can’t physically relate to what we do in the ring. But now, and that was the thing, I think, with Matt. For years, he was solid. He was always kind of just in the background with Jeff, but you couldn’t define him. You couldn’t turn to somebody and go, ‘there’s this guy, Matt Hardy, and he’s A, B, C, D, E.’ But now, you can turn to them and say, ‘wow, there’s this guy – he’s crazy! He talks with this weird accent. His hair’s all messed up.'”

Opinion/Discussion:

Is Al Snow correct in what he’s saying?  Has Wrestling changed, or is it an excuse used by those who haven’t seen the success they expected?

7 Takeaways From WWE RAW (1/15)

16

The January 15th episode of WWE RAW aired live from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. Here are 7 takeaways from this week’s edition of WWE RAW:

Braun Strowman Was Fired & Then Rehired An Hour Later

braun strowman raw 1 15
RAW kicked off with footage of Braun Strowman knocking part of the stage over onto Brock Lesnar and Kane last week. Strowman then made his way down to the ring to a great reaction from the San Antonio crowd.

Braun informed the crowd that he wanted to tell them all a short story with a happy ending. Strowman stated a Beast and a Machine met a Monster at the Royal Rumble and the last one standing was the Monster Among Men and he became the new Universal Champion.

RAW GM Kurt Angle interrupted and made his way down to the ring with several security guards. Strowman said that he was telling the audience a story and Angle responded that he had a story too, but it doesn’t having a happy ending. Angle claimed that Strowman has created an unsafe working environment for every WWE Superstar and every employee in the back.

Strowman claimed that he did his job last week but Angle disagreed. Angle stated that WWE Superstars settle things in the ring, not backstage with a grappling hook. Strowman added that he does whatever he wants and once again guaranteed that he will become Universal Champion at Royal Rumble.

Kurt Angle then fired Braun Strowman and left the ring. Strowman got out of the ring and marched backstage as security guards followed him.

Braun was shown backstage muttering to himself and then turned his attention to a security guard. Strowman dared the guard to make him leave as RAW went to a commercial break. When RAW returned, Braun was still walking around backstage. Braun approached an exit and the guard told him to leave. Strowman attacked the guards and beat them down. One of them tried to run away but Braun caught him and threw him over a barricade and through a table. Braun shouted “I’m not leaving until everybody gets these hands!”.

Braun later booted down Angle’s door to his office and started whipping things around as the RAW GM was nowhere to be found. Poor Curt Hawkins got dismantled by Strowman backstage as he continued to search for Angle. A catering employee got quite lucky as Strowman didn’t attack him and instead took a bite of cake.

Angle was shown in his destroyed office and stated that he didn’t have any alternative but to call the police. An official showed up and informed Angle that Strowman has heading towards the production trucks. Angle shouted “oh God they are worth 12 million dollars!” as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned, Strowman was once again shown backstage. Strowman entered the television trucks and started shouting at the employees. Braun threatened to shut everything down but had no idea what any of the technical equipment did. Strowman exited the production truck and then flipped another truck as Angle shouted at him to stop.

Braun marched towards the entrance ramp as Kurt Angle got a phone call. Strowman turned his attention to the announce team and grabbed Michael Cole. Strowman lifted Cole in the air as Angle sprinted to entrance ramp. Angle stated that he called off the cops because Stephanie McMahon rehired him. Strowman grabbed Michael Cole and threw him onto the security guards next to the entrance ramp. Strowman raised his fists in the air and celebrated before finally heading backstage.

Strowman is one of the most popular Superstars in WWE right now. I think he should be Universal Champion right now, but the title is still stuck on Brock Lesnar. I would love to see Strowman win the title at Royal Rumble and continue to be dominant on RAW every week. I doubt that is going to happen though, as WWE most likely wants to have Lesnar hold the belt until WrestleMania.

Jason Jordan Cost The Bar Their Match

jordan rollins raw 1 15

Cesaro and Sheamus faced Apollo Crews and Titus O’Neil tonight on RAW. Apollo Crews was immediately isolated in the corner. Sheamus and Cesaro took turns beating down Crews for a bit.

Crews battled back and delivered a Dropkick to Sheamus before tagging in Titus. O’Neil leveled Sheamus with a shoulder tackle and then posed in the ring. Cesaro distracted Titus for a moment and Sheamus took control of the match. Cesaro tagged in and hit Titus with a couple of chops and the crowd chanted “you look stupid!” at Sheamus. Titus battled back and delivered a few chops across the chest to Cesaro.

Titus slammed Cesaro to the canvas and tagged Crews back in. Crews dropped an elbow on Cesaro for a two count. Cesaro escaped a Suplex and tagged in Sheamus. Sheamus connected with a Clothesline off the top rope as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned, Sheamus and Cesaro had Crews isolated in the corner. Sheamus hit a Backbreaker and Cesaro connected with an Elbow Drop for a two count. Sheamus applied a Chin Lock to Crews in the middle of the ring.

Crews broke free and hit a Dropkick and then tagged in Titus. Cesaro was tagged in as well but O’Neil beat the hell out of him in the corner. Titus connected with a Splash and then a Powerslam for a two count.

Sheamus tagged in and booted O’Neil in the face. Cesaro hit Crews with an uppercut and Sheamus followed it up with a Clothesline. Cesaro and Crews tagged in. Crews hit a Crossbody off the top rope for a two count. Sheamus & Cesaro threw Titus out of the ring and teamed up on Crews.

Jason Jordan came down to the entrance ramp and started walking towards the ring. Crews capitilized on the distraction and rolled up Sheamus for the pinfall victory. Seth Rollins joined Jordan on the entrance ramp and started arguing with him. Rollins was unaware of Jordan’s plan to cost The Bar the match.

Sheamus and Cesaro will get their rematch for the RAW Tag Team Championships at the Royal Rumble PPV on January 28th. Jordan and Rollins don’t seem to be on the same page at all and I wouldn’t be surprised if that costs them the titles in a couple of weeks.

Cedric Alexander Has All The Momentum Before His Title Match At Royal Rumble

cedrick

Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore limped his way down to the ring with Tony Nese. Amore cut a promo on Cedric Alexander. Cedric interrupted with Goldust by his side. Goldust stated that if Enzo were a film he would go straight to DVD. Goldust claimed that Cedric Alexander was a box office smash and will go on to defeat Enzo at Royal Rumble to become the new Cruiserweight Championship. Alexander grabbed the microphone and said that Enzo was sawft.

Nese and Alexander then faced off and Nese controlled the match early. Alexander battled back and slammed Nese face-first into the mat. Alexander hit a springboard Clothesline and went for the cover but Tony kicked out at two.

Nese got Cedric in a Headlock but Cedric quickly escaped. Cedric then hit the Lumbar Check for the pinfall victory. Enzo limped away as Goldust and Alexander taunted him.

Tony Nese and Cedric Alexander are both excellent in-ring performers. Unfortunately, the same problem continues to plague the Cruiserweight division. The crowd just doesn’t care at all. If Alexander does win the title at Royal Rumble, the division would at least have a legitimate champion. It is bizarre to see Goldust in the role of Alexander’s sidekick and I doubt it is going to generate any more interest in this feud. At this point, 205 Live feels like a lost cause. I’d like to see it succeed but feuds like this one really aren’t accomplishing anything for the brand.

Asuka’s Win Streak Continued Due To An Injury To Nia Jax

nia jax knee raw 1 15

Nia Jax faced Asuka tonight on RAW. Nia controlled the match early and launched Asuka across the ring. Asuka wrapped her legs around Nia and extended Nia’s arm. Nia broke free and planted Asuka with a Backbreaker.

Nia showed off her strength and launched Asuka across the ring once again. Asuka battled back with a flurry of punches but was dropped by a Clothesline from Jax. Asuka caught Nia in an Arm Bar but Jax broke free and threw Asuka into the turnbuckle as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Asuka escaped a Samoan Drop and rolled up Nia for a one count. Asuka went for a kick but Jax caught her and planted her with a Powerbomb. Nia went for the cover but Asuka kicked out and Nia became frustrated.

Asuka locked in a Knee Bar in the middle of the ring. Nia fought through the pain and reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Jax knocked Asuka out of the ring and then followed her out there. Nia slammed Asuka into the ring apron and then started walking up the steps. Asuka booted Nia in the back of the leg and Nia fell to the floor.

The action returned to the ring as Nia was favoring her left leg. Nia tried to get up but her leg gave out and the referee stopped the match. Alexa Bliss came down to the ring to check on Nia Jax.

Later during the show, Bliss and Nia Jax were shown backstage. Bliss apologized for getting Nia Jax into this. Enzo Amore showed up and Bliss tried to get him to leave. Nia asked Bliss to leave and Amore told Nia that he was sorry she got hurt.

It is looking like Bliss is going to have to defend her RAW Women’s Championship against Asuka in the near future and she is running out of ways to tilt the odds in her favor. There isn’t really anything interesting about the storyline relationship between Enzo Amore and Nia Jax right now.

Reigns Dominated The Miztourage

Roman Reigns faced Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in a Handicap match tonight on RAW. The Miz was ringside for the match and got involved in the action early. Dallas and Axel took turns beating down Reigns in the corner. Axel applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring as The Miz taunted Reigns ringside.

Reigns broke free and blasted Dallas in the face with a series of right hands. Axel tagged himself in and attacked Roman. Reigns planted Axel with a Samoan Drop and both Superstars fell to the canvas.

Reigns drove Axel into the turnbuckle and then geared up for the Superman Punch but The Miz leaped up onto the ring apron. Reigns launched Dallas out of the ring and then hit Axel with a Superman Punch. Reigns got out of the ring and leaped off the steel steps for a Superman Punch. The Miz avoided it by shoving Bo Dallas in the way. The action returned to the ring and Reigns connected with a Spear to Axel for the pinfall victory.

Roman Reigns will defend his Intercontinental Championship against The Miz at the 25th anniversary of RAW next week. I’m guessing that this feud will wind up continuing at the Royal Rumble, unless WWE decides not to have the IC Title defended at the PPV.

Sonya Deville Picked Up A Big Victory Over Sasha Banks

sonya deville mandy rose paige

Sasha Banks faced Sonya Deville on RAW tonight. Bayley, Mickie James, Paige and Mandy Rose were all ringside for the match.

Rose distracted Banks as the match started and Deville took control with a knee to the midsection. Banks battled back and leaped off the second rope but Deville booted her in the ribs for the pinfall victory.

It was also announced that Paige will not be able to compete in the women’s Royal Rumble during the match.

PWInsider reported this past week that Paige’s in-ring career in WWE is likely over after suffering an injury at a live event last month. For now, she is still a part of RAW as the leader of Absolution, but is not performing in the ring. Deville’s rather easy victory over Sasha Banks surprised me. It appears that WWE has completely given up on Bayley and I have no idea what they are doing with Sasha Banks now. I thought both Banks and Bayley were going to be stars on RAW, but both seem directionless right now.

Jason Jordan Ensured A Victory For Seth Rollins

jason jordan rollins raw 1 15

Jason Jordan approached Kurt Angle backstage in his destroyed office. Jordan thanked Angle for believing in him. Jordan stated that Rollins’ loss last week has been eating him alive and asked for Angle to put Rollins in a singles match tonight. Jordan suggested that Rollins face Finn Balor tonight and Angle agreed to make the match.

Later on RAW, Seth Rollins had a conversation with Jason Jordan backstage. Rollins told Jordan that they are teammates and that he didn’t have a problem with what Jordan did, he had a problem with how he did it.

Seth Rollins faced Finn Balor in the main event of RAW. Gallows, Anderson and Jason Jordan were ringside for the match. Balor controlled the match early and knocked Rollins out of the ring. Balor punted Seth’s head from the ring apron as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, Seth had taken back control of the match in the ring. Balor quickly battled back and connected with a stomp to Rollins’ chest. Rollins missed with a Phoenix Splash and Balor Dropkicked Seth into the turnbuckle. Rollins connected with a Superplex to Finn and rolled through and planted Balor with a Falcon Arrow.

Sheamus and Cesaro came down to the ringside area and chased after Jason Jordan.  Jason escaped and a brawl broke out between Gallows & Anderson and The Bar. Finn Balor leaped out of the ring and landed on everyone. Balor missed with the Coupe de Grace and then Jason Jordan tripped Finn up. Rollins then hit the Curb Stomp for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Balor was shown shaken up from being slammed into the mat face-first by Rollins. Balor rolled Rollins up during the match and had the match won but the referee botched the count.

Balor and Rollins put on a great match to end RAW and it was good to see the Curb Stomp back. Graves referred to the move as the “Blackout” when Rollins hit. Rollins didn’t notice that Jason Jordan tripped up Balor during the match and I’m sure he won’t be happy with Jordan once he finds out that he interfered.

Winners: Apollo Crews & Titus O’Neil

– Jordan laughs from the stage as Rollins comes out and asks him what he’s doing. Rollins seems upset that Jordan cost Sheamus and Cesaro the match.

Strowman takes a piece of the cake and eats it, then walks off.

– Enzo Amore and Tony Nese are out to the ring next, and Enzo cuts his usual entrance promo. They get in the ring and Enzo talks until Cedric Alexander interrupts, and Goldust is with him. Goldust says Enzo is a straight to DVD movie, and Cedric is a box office smash. Goldust says Cedric will be champion, then Cedric calls Enzo s-a-w-f-t. They’ve got a match coming up.

– Braun Strowman is shown backstage throwing stuff around. He knocks over some pipes and some other equipment before storming off into other parts of the arena.

The employees start getting back to their desks, then the truck starts shaking. We see outside that Strowman has taken the truck off the trailer and is driving it. Strowman gets out and starts trying to flip it, then Kurt Angle runs in and asks what he hell he’s doing. Strowman gets in Kurt’s face, then flips the truck. Strowman screams in Kurt’s face again, then walks off and throws aside everything in his path. Strowman walks towards the stage and comes out towards the broadcast table. Booker T and Graves run off, but Cole can’t get away, and they leave him behind. Strowman grabs Cole and hauls him across the stage. Strowman looks to slam Cole, but Kurt Angle and some security run in and tell him to stop. Kurt says he just got off the phone with Stephanie, and Strowman can have his job back, but he has to stop and he has to put down Michael Cole. Strowman walks off from Cole, but before he leaves, he picks him up and throws Cole onto a crowd of security guards. Strowman heads backstage, and Kurt Angle looks very concerned.

– Back at the broadcast table, Graves and Booker talk about how horrible what happened to Cole is. Tom Phillips joins them to take over for Cole, and they show replays of Strowman’s chaos. Booker says he doesn’t think Kurt should have fired Strowman earlier on national TV, which set Strowman off. We see more replays of Strowman throwing Cole.

Nia Jax vs. Asuka: They lock up and Nia tosses Asuka across the ring to start. Nia continues to fend off Asuka’s offense and hits a backbreaker. Jordan ends up proposing a singles match for his partner Seth Rollins tonight so he can “stay sharp.” Jordan pitches a Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins match to Angle, and Angle thinks it’s a good idea. It sounds like Rollins vs. Balor is going to be tonight’s main event. Jordan walks off as Angle continues to clean up his office.

– Tom Phillips introduces a Martin Luther King video package, and Booker T shares some thoughts. The video package features 10-bell salute.

– Nia Jax is backstage icing her knee and Alexa Bliss is talking to her. Enzo comes in and says he’ll take care of her, and tells Bliss to leave.

The Revival vs. Enhancement talent: The jobbers in this match don’t get any names in the opening moments. Wilder beats on one of the jobbers in the opening moments, then tags in Dawson for a double team suplex. Dawson cheap shots the other jobber off the apron, then Wilder tags in and they hit the Shatter Machine on the jobber in the ring for the three count.

Winners: The Revival

– The Revival does an interview in the ring after the match. Dawson says they just put on a clinic in tag team wrestling, which is something that’s been missing for a long time. He says too many tag teams are going backstage to play video games or check instagram, but all The Revival is worried about is punishing their opponents and winning matches. When asked what legends they’re looking forward to meeting at the RAW 25th anniversary next week. Wilder says they aren’t fans of beer baths or crotch chops, because they made a mockery of this business. They say they aren’t sports entertainers, they’re pro wrestlers, and they aren’t a creation of the WWE board room. Dawson says “they” will not change who they are, and this is their universe now. The fans boo as Dawson says they’re going to set the tone for RAW for the next 25 years.

– Elias is backstage, walking towards the gorilla position.

– Elias comes out to the ring for a song. He trashes Texas and talks about his intentions for the Royal Rumble. At the end of his song, he introduces The Miz and The Miztourage.

– The Miz, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas come out to the ring, and Elias leaves. The Miz gets on the mic and talks about his return. He says the spark that was missing from WWE wasn’t John Cena or Brock Lesnar, it was Miz. The Miz plugs his new USA Network reality show until Roman Reigns comes out to interrupt, and the handicap match is up next.

Roman Reigns vs. The Miztourage: The Miz distracts Reigns early on to separate him from Dallas and Axel. Dallas and Axel attack Reigns from behind and overpower him. Back in the ring, Dallas and Axel beat down Reigns in the corner and keep him grounded. Reigns knocks Dalls to the outside, then catches Axel with a Samoan Drop. Reigns throws Dallas into Axel, then hits a big boot on Dallas. The momentum causes Dallas to appear to DDT Axel. Miz pulls Dallas outside, and The Miz runs out and hits a Superman punch on Dallas. – Tom Phillips talks about MLK again, and shows us video footage of WWE stars at the Civil Rights Museum.

Rollins wants the match, but tells Jordan that while they are teammates, Jordan isn’t his spokesperson. Rollins says doesn’t have a problem with what Jordan did, he has a problem with the way he did it. Jordan walks off, and Rollins starts getting ready for his match later.

– Woken Matt Hardy is out to the ring next.

Matt Hardy vs. Heath Slater: Matt controls this one early on and pummels on Slater. Hardy backs Slater into the corner and laughs at him and backs him up. Slater falls outside and looks like he wants to give up, but Rhyno gets in his face and tells him to toughen up. Slater gets in the ring and hits a kick on Hardy then beats him down. Slater starts working on Hardy’s left shoulder, but Matt bites him. Matt suplexes Slater into the turnbuckle then pummels on him. Matt hits a running clothesline in the corner, then a Side Effect for a two count. Hardy repeatedly slams Slater’s head into the turnbuckles, then hits a neckbreaker. Matt does the “Delete” thing, then hits the Twist of Fate for the win.

Winner: Matt Hardy

– Hardy celebrates his win in the ring and leads the crowd in a Delete chant.

– We go to the broadcast table where they introduce s video package about Bill Goldberg being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

– We see a replay of Kurt Angle’s confrontations with Braun Strowman earlier in the night, and Strowman’s attack on Michael Cole. The announcers then go over the card for Royal Rumble.

Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor: Jason Jordan is at ringside in Rollin’s corner, and Gallows & Anderson are at ringside in Balor’s corner. Rollins and Balor trade holds in the opening moments until Rollins drops him with some strikes. Rollins hits some chops to the chest, then stomps on Balor in the corner. Balor comes back and dumps Rollins outsde, then follows up with a kick to the face from the apron. Back in the ring, Balor works over Rollins’ knee. Rollins fights back and hits a Blockbuster off the middle rope on Balor, but appears to further hurt his knee on landing. The fight spills out to ringside again, and Rollins sells the knee. Back in the ring, Rollins continues to beat on Balor with kicks and knees. Rollins goes for a suplex, but Balor escapes. Rollins hits him with an elbow, and then shortly after goes up to the middle rope for another Blockbuster. Before Rollins can jump, Balor runs up and stops him with a kick. Rollins hits some running splashes on BAlor in the corner, but Balor blocks one with a sling blade on Rollins. Rollins gets to his feet and Balor charges forward — and Balor runs right into a superkick from Rollins. Rollins picks up Balor, but Balor fights him off and hits some elbows and kicks. Balor hits a forearm shot and kicks, but Rollins hits some of his own. Rollins goes up top and looks for the Phoenix Splash, but Balor blocks it with his feet. Balor goes up top, but Rollins runs up and grabs him and superplexes Balor off the top. Rollins rolls through and hits the Falcon Arrow for a two count on Balor. Rollins is frustrated, and he goes back up to the top rope. Rollins goesf for the frogsplash, but Finn gets the knees up to block it. Finn rolls up Rollins and hook the leg for what appears to be a three count, but the ref says it was two. The Bar runs in and starts brawling with Anderson and Gallows at ringside. Balor hits a suicide dive on The Bar at ringside, then gets back in the ring. Balor ducks a clothesline from Rollins, but Jordan trips Balor from the floor and the ref misses it. Rollins immediately follows up with the Curb Stomp for the three count.

Winner: Seth Rollins

– After the match, Rollins and Jordan celebrate on the stage. We see a replay that appears the show the referee counting to three earlier in the match when Balor rolled up Rollins. Gallows and Anderson check on Balor in the ring, and Balor is selling like he has a concussion. Balor drops to his knees selling the concussion, then stands up, and RAW goes off the air.

WWE Confirms Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler’s Roles For RAW 25th Anniversary

4

WWE confirmed on Monday that Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler will reunite at the commentator’s desk next week for the RAW 25th Anniversary special. JR and the King will call the action from the Manhattan Center, with the usual announce team calling the action from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Rounding up a few rumors we’ve been hearing regarding the 25th Anniversary show, it’s expected that approximately two hours of RAW will air from the Barclays Center and one hour of the show will air from the Manhattan Center.

With fans paying top dollar to attend the Manhattan Center show (due to high demand and limited seating capacity), you can be sure those fans will be treated to several “bonus matches” that could air later on Youtube or the WWE Network.

Additionally, WWE going with a “retro” set for the Manhattan Center show that will closely emulate the look of RAW’s first few episodes from 1993.

Paige Backstage At RAW, Backstage Reaction To Her Situation

19

Following the news that Paige’s WWE career is likely over as a result of her latest neck injury, the Absolution leader is currently backstage at San Antonio’s AT&T Center, site of tonight’s RAW. It remains to be seen if she’s used on the show.

Paige was injured during WWE’s holiday tour at a live event at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. The injury took place during a tag match when Sasha Banks delivered a stiff double-legged kick to Paige’s upper back. The match ended shortly thereafter when it became clear Paige was in a lot of pain and could not continue.

https://youtu.be/3yc6wZqE5yo

Sasha Banks’ kick effectively ended Paige’s in-ring career, but PWInsider reports that people behind the scenes see the incident as a freak accident that could have happened to anybody.  During a recent appearance on Lilian Garcia’s podcast, Paige said doctors advised her after her 2017 neck surgery that she should not wrestle again. In light of that revelation, it seems that odds were high that she could suffer a career ending injury at some point.

Paige has not said much publicly since news of her situation broke last week, but she did tweet the following on Sunday:

– Eli Drake’s contract expires this summer.

Mick Foley Gives His Picks For The Men’s & Women’s Royal Rumble Matches

10

WWE Hall Of Famer, former WWE Champion, and former Monday Night RAW General Manager Mick Foley recently did an interview with The Mirror to help promote next week’s special RAW 25th Anniversary episode on USA Network. Foley was first asked to give his predictions for both the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble matches:

“This is a historic rumble, right? The first women’s Royal Rumble, that’s an amazing announcement. I’m picking Becky Lynch to win the women’s Royal Rumble. She is just riding a real wave of momentum. The men’s rumble, you don’t know if it’s going to be one of the really big guys, or one of those guys who has been around for a long time. I’m going with Sheamus. I’m a big fan of The Bar. They’re a team, they are going to help each other and one of them will sacrifice themselves for the other. I’ll say Sheamus.”

Despite being away from the company Foley is an avid viewer of WWE programming as he frequently comments on the product via Twitter. Foley was asked who he likes to watch on Monday Night RAW nowadays:

“Yeah, I’m not as vocal as I was, largely because my son [Dewey Foley] works in creative and as a dad I should leave him alone to do his thing! It’s funny, there are different people who strike me for different reasons. I really get a kick out of Gulak these days. I wanted to do a whole New Year’s article about different people who strike me in different ways. I really like The Bar and what they bring to the show every week.

“A guy came up to me in an airport, I thought he wanted to start a row, he said ‘I’ll tell you what’s wrong with Raw…’ I said ‘what’s that?’ and he goes ‘you can’t have a three-hour show without The Miz’. Ha ha. The Miz has been away for a little bit and sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. He is like the glue that helps keeps the entire thing going because he is so entertaining. But in the meantime, guys like Elias have stepped up, the Miztourage are hugely entertaining and there is great wrestling every week on Raw.”

Foley then was asked whether or not he’ll be at RAW 25 himself. He admitted that he has been invited but is trying to free up time for the appearance as he has already committed to a previous appearance beforehand:

“I’ve been invited, I’m trying to clear out time from something I had already committed to. Whether I’m there in person or not, I believe I will be there in spirit. This show literally changed my life. It was such a big part of my life. Not just from the time I was on it. I’m almost always watching on Monday night with my children, so it has been a big part of my life, whether I’m on the show or not.”

Brandi Rhodes Compares Wrestle Kingdom & WrestleMania

1

Brandi Rhodes recently spoke to Ring Rust Radio to promote WAGS Atlanta, which she’ll be staring on this season. Rhodes discussed several professional wrestling topics during her appearance, including making the transition from professional wrestling to working on the set of WAGS. Brandi also compared the importance of Wrestle Kingdom and WrestleMania, two mega-shows that she has had the pleasure of being apart of.

She also was asked if she and Cody have been contacted by WWE due to their newfound success outside of the company. You can check out the highlights from her appearance here below:

On Wednesday, January 17 at 10 p.m., you make your debut on E! Network’s hit show WAGS Atlanta. How were you initially approached with this project and what can wrestling fans expect from you on the show?

“I was actually just sought out randomly. They got in touch with my management about a Skype interview to be considered for the show which to me, I thought a Skype interview, they must be in the very early stages of casting for this. So, I thought this was cool, sure no problem. I did my Skype interview with the casting it went well and then a week later had a contract sent to me, so clearly they were not in the beginning stages of casting, they were at the end stages of casting and they just needed one more person. So that’s how I ended up being that ninth girl.”

After spending so much time in wrestling, how has the transition to working on the set of WAGS Atlanta been and have you enjoyed the experience?

“Working on WAGS is obviously very different than working on wrestling television. It’s very different in the way that there is not nearly as much to do for WAGS. More of it was just kind of being my natural self. We go to different places and have different situations and we talk about different things. However, it’s very much just me being me and offering my opinions and things like that. They are very, very different, but it’s nice to have something different to kind of break up the norm of what I’m used to doing on television.

“It was a lot of fun to get to film some different scenes and try different things out. I would say the most fun that I had is the things I got to do with Cody. We were just are usual selves and people got a chance to see how we are and it was just a lot of fun for sure.”

You were primarily utilized as a ring announcer and backstage interviewer in WWE, but now that you’re wrestling and also managing Cody, how do you believe those experiences in WWE helped prepare you for what you’re doing now?

“That’s a really good question nobody’s asked me that yet so kudos to you. The one thing that makes this, I don’t want to say easier because the learning curve is huge and I’m still making my way here. I would say watching from ringside for so many years and seeing so many different things and watching all these different stories play out, I understand what you want to see. That doesn’t mean I can do it always or accurately, however I understand what people want to see and understand what needs to happen where and when. A lot of people, you would be shocked, this isn’t the most natural thing to understand but it’s one of those things that has helped me so much.

“As far as putting matches together, when someone starts to say something I would say, you wouldn’t want to do that because it doesn’t make sense and then they go, ‘Oh yeah, you’re right, how did you know that?’ Then I tell I’ve been watching for so long. I just know if it doesn’t fit or it’s out of place, I remember sitting at ringside and looking at the person sitting next to me saying, ‘What?’ It’s just helped to kind of ingrain in my mind what things should look like for a fan and what just make sense.”

Your performance with Cody at Wrestle Kingdom 12 was my favorite that I’ve seen from you two, and you both have nailed your characters. Are you mapping out most of what you do beforehand, or is most of it ad-libbed in front of the fans?

“This sport is such a roller coaster. For me personally, I feed off of the energy around me. So if everybody wants something and they are yelling and they are cheering or they like something or they do not like it and they hate it, I totally go off with that. So with that being said, everything of course is not planned. I was the one that started laughing after the thing that happened with Ibushi. It just felt natural like I should laugh, I got him and I should laugh so of course he started laughing and it was great.

“It was awesome and everybody got it at that point. Still I am very new to things so a lot of times if there is the opportunity to ask a question then I’m going to. It’s something that I’m seeing it as oh ok this make sense to me but maybe it doesn’t make sense to somebody else so I should run it by someone else. It’s really of those natural organic moments where you just know what you should do.”

You were there first hand as the WWE’s women’s revolution kicked into high gear. Now that you are part of Ring of Honor’s Women of Honor championship tournament, how do you feel about the state of women’s wrestling and do you believe you can win the tournament?

“One thing I know to be true is you should never put yourself in anything you don’t think you can win. You might as well be an idiot if you enter contests thinking I don’t think I can win but I’m going to try! Women’s wrestling is absolutely at its peak right now. It’s at the top of its game and is getting so much attention and so many eyes and it should be. Women are stepping up, they are performing, they are showing that we are athletes as well and we deserve the attention we are getting.

“This is an incredible time to be part of a women’s division, any women’s division really because they’re so solid. The girls are really good and really different and that’s great. I don’t think we have anywhere in wrestling right now two of the same girls trying to be the same girl if that makes any sense. It is just so unique and everyone is soaring right now. It’s great and it’s a positive thing and I hope that it keeps growing and who knows what heights were going to get to?”

Many in the wrestling business say nothing can compare to the enormity of WrestleMania, but Wrestle Kingdom in the Tokyo Dome may be the closest thing. Having been part of both, how would you say Wrestle Kingdom compares to WrestleMania in terms of scale and importance?

“For me it’s kind of an unfair question because I was in two very different roles for each of those. Naturally for me, Wrestle Kingdom had this vastness that the other didn’t because my role was so different. I’m very proud to have been part of Wrestle Kingdom and it never dawned on me the entire time I was out there that almost 40,000 people were out there too. It was just a live in the moment, enjoy what I’m doing type of thing. I don’t add a lot of pressure or take away pressure based on crowds.

“I am the same amount nervous at Center Stage in Atlanta that I am at the Tokyo Dome in Wrestle Kingdom. It’s all the same to me. The level of performance is the same, the amount that I want to do well is the exact same, and after it’s really cool to get to see what the feedback was socially insane and see how many people watched and how many people enjoyed the show. That’s the biggest difference show is that I would say between the two shows is how much people interact because it’s so much bigger. Really, for me Wrestle Kingdom was the greatest thing I’ve achieved so far.”

With how successful you and Cody have been around the world in wrestling, and now expanding further into mainstream entertainment with WAGS Atlanta, has WWE contacted you about returning and is that something you would consider?

“Wow, what a question. All I can say is that we are doing really well with everything that we are doing and we are very happy on this path that we are on and we are happy for every success everyone is having in wrestling right now. I think that everything is continuing to grow were continuing to grow to sky’s the limit.”

WWE Signs Indian Kickboxer & Actor Saurav Gurjar

4

The WWE continues to fill their performance center with Superstars of the future. Per a report from The Times Of India, WWE has signed  33-year-old Indian kickboxer-turned-actor Saurav Gurjar to a developmental deal.

WWE bills Gurjar as 6-foot-8 and 298 pounds, and he took part in a four-day invitation-only tryout in Dubai last April that featured 33 male and female athletes from 18 different countries. Gurjar is a former Haryana State Boxing Champion before he became an actor, and is best known for his portrayal of  “Bheem” in the Hindi-language mythological TV drama Mahabharat in 2013.

Gurjar has some professional wrestling experience as he competed for a television-based promotion backed by IMPACT Wrestling in India know as Ring Ka King back in January of 2012. He teamed up with Abyss, Magnus, Scott Steiner, and Sonjay Dutt to take on the team of Matt Morgan, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and other talents. He also worked a match with luchador Puma in one-on-one competition.

Here’s what Gurjar had to tell The Times Of India about joining WWE:

“It had been a dream of mine since childhood to be a WWE wrestler. I am from the Chambal valley, where kids usually have two options — to join politics or the sand mafia. But I always wanted to be a professional wrestler. Everything that happened in between — sports, acting — was by chance.

“My father is a farmer and we didn’t have a TV growing up so I would watch wrestling fights at my neighbor’s place. I grew up watching people like The Undertaker, Kane, and The Rock,” Gurjar said. “Kane was someone I idolized and I can’t wait to meet him. Although I’m sure if he walks up to me in the ring, I would be too stunned to say or do anything.

“My goal, my zidd is simple — I want to be the WWE Heavyweight Champion. It might take time but I will get there eventually,” Gurjar declares.
