Dustin Rhodes Introduces His Nephews Wayne And Wyatt Rhodes

0

Dustin Rhodes knows there’s more than one royal family and Bloodline in pro wrestling. “The Natural” has been busy not only in the AEW ring but also running his own wrestling academy for the past several years. Based in Austin, TX, the Rhodes Wrestling Academy has been a training ground for his two nephews, Wyatt and Wayne Rhodes, who have been learning the ropes from their legendary uncle.

Following their recent AEW debuts, a dark match prior to AEW Collision on August 17, Uncle Dustin proudly introduces them Wayne and Wyatt Rhodes as the new Texas Outlaws – a name that honors their grandfather Dusty Rhodes’ legacy.

Cody’s Endorsement

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes endorsed his nephews potential, expressing confidence they’re capable of following the family’s path.

“Behind the curtain are my nephews, Dalton and Dylan. They’re close with Dustin, and to see them go from playing around, to the point where, now I can see it. It’s one of those things where, once you start, you can’t stop…. They’re not ready to wrestle Jacob Fatu just yet, but they’ll get there.”

– Cody Rhodes

Texas Outlaws

The original Texas Outlaws, consisting of Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdoch, began their journey in 1968 in the Kansas City territory, making their mark in promotions like NWA, AWA, and in Japan. Dusty eventually became a singles star, earning the iconic “American Dream” moniker.

Dustin, leading by example, has been actively involved in tag team wrestling, with the accolades to prove it. He currently holds the ROH Trios Tag Titles with Marshall and Kevin Von Erich, as well as the ROH Tag Team Titles with Sammy Guevara. All four competed in a massive multi-man tag match on the All In Buy-In kickoff show this past weekend in London.

Dave Bautista On Missing His WWE Hall of Fame Opportunity in 2020

0

Plans for Dave Bautista’s WWE Hall of Fame induction may have fallen through in 2020, but the Hollywood star still hopes to take his place among the greats. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet of Insight to discuss his new film ‘Killer’s Game,’ the Animal spoke about being approached for an induction years earlier.

“I agreed to do it. Hunter [Triple H] asked me to do it. And I said, ‘Yeah, of course.’ And it was here in LA, and I thought it was perfect. It was storybook, because I won my first title here in LA.”

While an induction in Los Angeles would’ve been perfect for Bautista, it wasn’t meant to be due to his scheduling commitments.

“I was working on a film I was in South Africa, so logistically, we just couldn’t make it happen. But, yeah, I’m still open to it. One day I would like to.”

Bautista was supposed to be inducted in 2020, though that year saw no inductions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the 2020 inductees, which included JBL, the New World Order, and Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger, were inducted alongside the 2021 class the following year.

As a former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, among other accolades, Bautista has certainly earned an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. So far, no names have been announced for the 2025 class which will take place ahead of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two-night show will take place in Allegiant Stadium and mark WWE’s sixth two-night WrestleMania.

Bautista intends to return to WWE for a Hall of Fame induction but has no intention on wrestling again. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on the WWE Champion turned Hollywood A-Lister.

Dave Bautista Knows If He’ll Wrestle In WWE Again

0

Hollywood A-Lister Dave Bautista may feel the allure of wrestling again but refuses to let this temptation ruin what he considers a perfect sendoff. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet of Insight to promote his new film ‘Killers Game‘ the Animal addressed a future return to the ring.

“I went out on my own terms the way I wanted with the guy I wanted to go out with [against Triple H.] I will never tarnish that.”

Bautista admitted that though he won’t wrestle again, he does miss the energy of a live wrestling crowd and there’s “always a temptation” to compete again.

“Every time I hear my music, I want that feeling again. It’s like a drug…..I just have to come to terms with my time has passed.”

Bautista’s final match came at WrestleMania 35 where he faced his longtime mentor and friend Triple H. Ironically, had Triple H lost the bout, he would have been forced to retire from in-ring competition. Instead, the Game won their No Holds Barred match, which at 24:45 was the longest match of WWE’s final one-night WrestleMania.

When Final Matches Go Wrong

The idea of having one final match is a risky venture for wrestlers of the past, as it may have been years if not decades since they were last in ring shape. One final match also runs the risk of ruining a previous, more fitting sendoff. In 2008, Ric Flair what many would consider a perfect farewell at WrestleMania 24 against Shawn Michaels. After joining TNA years later, Flair would have inferior matches and Ric himself has been critical of his 2022 ‘Last Match,’ so much so that he’s teased having another final farewell.

A special guest referee has been confirmed for the NXT Championship match at No Mercy, with Ethan Page set to defend his title against TNA Star Joe Hendry in the main event of the show.

The announcement came during a dramatic show-closing segment, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the title bout.

  • NXT Women’s Championship Match: Roxanne Perez vs. Jaida Parker

Randy Orton and MGK’s Heated Exchange: WWE Star Fires Back After Rapper’s Bold Claims

0

Randy Orton recently responded to comments made by Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) about an alleged incident between the two at WWE SummerSlam 2024. The exchange has since sparked a buzz among WWE and MGK fans alike.

MGK’s Allegation on “Impaulsive”

MGK appeared on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast where he shared details about a supposed altercation with Randy Orton during SummerSlam 2024.

According to MGK, he was in the ring discussing plans with Logan Paul when he noticed Randy Orton making derogatory remarks about him. MGK recounted, “I saw Randy Orton talk st about me… I was like, ‘I’m going to practice a new version of myself. Three…two…one. Fk that. Ay man, f**k you.’ All my boys were sitting there [stunned]. ‘Is this real? I don’t know what’s happening.’”

Randy Orton’s Cryptic Response

Following MGK’s comments, Randy Orton took to Twitter to respond. In a cryptic post, Orton simply tweeted an eyes” and lying emoji directed at MGK, hinting at his skepticism about the rapper’s account of the incident. The tweet quickly went viral, adding more fuel to the fire of this developing feud.

MGK Claps Back

Not one to remain silent, MGK responded with a tweet of his own, “You have my number, and you know why you have it btw but I won’t even put you on blast for that. Check your texts.”

He further challenged WWE to release footage of the alleged incident, stating, “Cameras were rolling, tell WWE to put that out.”

What’s Next in the Feud?

While it’s still unclear whether this exchange is part of a larger WWE storyline or a genuine personal dispute, the back-and-forth has certainly captured the attention of fans.

With both Orton and MGK being known for their outspoken personalities, the possibility of this feud escalating remains pretty high.

Humberto Carrillo Re-Signs with WWE

Humberto Carrillo, a talented and high-flying wrestler, has officially re-signed with WWE. A report from Fightful Select confirms that Carrillo signed his new contract around the same time as his tag team partner, Angel Garza.

Both wrestlers’ previous contracts were set to expire in August, but they have now secured their positions with new three-year deals.

Carrillo, known for his dynamic wrestling style and high-flying maneuvers, has been a rising star in WWE since his debut. His re-signing is a clear indication that WWE values his contributions and sees a promising future for him within the company, despite the fact that he has not done much of note on television as of late.

Jacob Fatu One ‘Step’ Closer To WWE Return

0

Bloodline member Jacob Fatu is no longer wearing a boot on his foot, a positive indication that he’s one ‘step’ closer to getting back in the ring. At Wednesday’s WWE live event from Stuttgart, Germany, the Samoan Werewolf was boot-free as he accompanied Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa to the ring for their match:

Jacob Fatu has been out of action since the August 2, 2024 edition of WWE SmackDown, when he and Tama Tonga captured the WWE Tag team championships from Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. What looked to be the start of a fearsome title reign came to a screeching halt at SummerSlam, when Fatu was injured during a top-rope dive onto Cody Rhodes, who was laid-out on announcers’ table at ringside.

Due to Fatu’s inability to compete, Tonga Loa replaced him as Tama Tonga’s partner, in an effort to keep the gold in The Bloodline. He’s now one step closer to getting medically cleared, which should make Cody Rhodes and others very uneasy.

Tay Melo Reveals She Is Cleared To Wrestle

0

AEW wrestler recently Tay Melo has positive news for the fans. She has announced that she has been cleared to return to in-ring action.

Last month, Sammy Guevara revealed that they were training for their return to action. The recent edition of her husband, Sammy Guevara’s vlog documented what went down behind the scenes at AEW All In London. The Brazilian wrestler said on the vlog that she wants to wrestle. Guevara asked, “That might be soon?” Melo said that she has to ask the AEW President about it and revealed that she is cleared to wrestle.

Tay replied:

“You gotta call Tony Khan and ask him because I don’t know about that. I’m cleared, though. I’m cleared. Mama is cleared. Just got cleared.”

Her last AEW match took place in January last year when she joined forces with Anna Jay and faced the team of Ruby Soho & Willow Nightingale in a street fight. Tay has not competed in the ring since last year’s March. At AEW Double or Nothing 2023, she and Sammy announced that they were expecting their first child and in November, the couple was blessed with a baby girl, Luna.

Meanwhile, Tay’s husband, Sammy Guevara had been away from the promotion for quite some time after being suspended. On the February 16 edition of AEW Rampage, Jeff Hardy suffered a broken nose during a No DQ match against Sammy Guevara. During the match, Hardy suffered a concussion as well.

However, the former TNT Champion didn’t follow the concussion protocol. ‘The Spanish God’ still performed his finisher which led to his suspension. Sammy Guevara finally returned in ROH earlier this month and he is currently one-half of the ROH World Tag Team champions with Dustin Rhodes.

Dana White Reacts To Report of WWE Performance Center Moving To Las Vegas

0

UFC President Dana White recently shared his thoughts on the report that suggested WWE Performance Center is moving to Las Vegas.

On August 27, WrestleVotes reported that during an “all-employee” meeting led by Mark Shapiro at WWE HQ, staffs were told that the Performance Center would be moving to Sin City sometime “in the near future.” However, Fightful Select then refuted the claims and reported that WWE sources said that the claim was false.

WrestleVotes further said in another report that WWE has plans to move the Performance Center to Las Vegas but the process would not be an “overnight thing.”

At the post-show Press Conference after Dana White’s Contender Series on August 27, UFC President Dana White was asked about the reports surrounding WWE Performance Center. He said:

“It’s none of my business. I know nothing about it [laughs]. It’s none of my business. Let the WWE talk about their business.”

WWE launched the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida in July 2013. It went on to replace the original developmental territory of the company, Florida Championship Wrestling. Since then, the Performance Center has been used for training and tryouts as well as the home of NXT. The venue has also been used to host other major events for the company including WrestleMania 36 during the pandemic.

Last year, WWE and UFC officially merged to form TKO. They have since collaborated on different occasions. Recently, WWE even held NXT Battleground at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. UFC has used Nevada as their base for its headquarters, The UFC Performance Institute, and its live event center, The UFC Apex.

New Details on Sid Eudy’s Health Issues After WWE Legend’s Passing

0

More has come to light about the passing of former WWE Champion Sid Eudy, who died earlier this week at the age of 63. The passing of Eudy, better known as Sid Vicious, Sid Justice, or Sycho Sid, was shared publicly by his son Gunnar who noted that his father had been fighting cancer for years.

In an update also shared to Facebook, Gunnar shared more about his father’s health in the years prior to his death. Eudy had been dealing with congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation, and had also been battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Sid was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2016 and atrial fibrillation (better known as AFIB) around the same time. He was also given a pacemaker. In April 2021, he was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which was linked to roundup weed killer.

Although he never told anyone about his fight against cancer, Sid lived his life to the fullest, attending the gym, boxing classes, making appearances for his fans, and of course t-ball games for the kids. He passed away peacefully in his bed, leaving behind a legacy of strength and determination. I’ve never met anyone with a fraction of the strength as my father he truly was one of a kind.

Gunnar was also appreciative of the wealth of support and tributes to his father that have taken social media by storm since Sid’s passing.

Thanks everyone for the uplifting words and love we definitely feel it we have received thousands of messages and are grateful for everyone of them. I don’t have time to reply but I have read them all thank you thank you thank you!

Sid accomplished plenty in his wrestling career though sadly was never inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame prior to his passing. Tragically, Sid said just last month that he felt an induction was more likely now that Vince McMahon is gone from WWE, and suggested doing more with WWE.

Our thoughts remain with the Eudy family and those who knew Sid at this time.

TNA Star – ‘I’ll Make The Most Of WWE NXT If I Get The Opportunity’

0

One TNA Wrestling star plans on making the most of his opportunity should he be a part of the promotion’s ongoing crossover with WWE NXT. On the Mark Hoke Show, TNA’s Hammerstone shared his mentality regarding the popular TNA-NXT partnership.

“I’m not expecting the world to be handed to me. I don’t care what I’m asked to do. Whatever it is, I’m going to go in there with my working boots on do my best job. If that means I’m one of the guys who gets an opportunity at NXT, then I’m going to treat it like it’s the most important opportunity in the world.”

WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling

Several names from both promotions have stepped through the ‘prohibited portal’ as part of WWE’s new regime being more willing than before to work with others. From TNA, fans have seen NXT appearances by Jordynne Grace, The Rascalz, and Joe Hendry. The latter appeared on last night’s show and will challenge NXT Champion Ethan Page this Sunday at WWE NXT No Mercy. On this week’s WWE NXT, Rosemary also appeared as the surprise opponent for Kelani Jordan.

On the NXT roster side of things, fans have seen Izzi Dame, Tatum Paxley, and the No Quarter Catch Crew appear on their weekly show TNA iMPACT and at pay-per-views. Both Paxley and Dame have challenged for the TNA Knockouts World Championship though neither won the gold.

What’s to Come?

Before Hammerstone can think of NXT appearances, he first needs to make it to TNA Emergence. At the August 30, show, Hammerstone will be part of an Ultimate X match for the TNA X-Division Championship. Hammerstone will be joined by champion Mike Bailey, Zachary Wentz, Riley Osborne, Jason Hotch, and Laredo Kid. The show will take place at the Old Forester’s Paristown Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.

TNA Wrestling’s Rosemary Competes On 8/27 Episode of WWE NXT

0

The ongoing partnership between TNA Wrestling and WWE NXT shows no sign of slowing down after Rosemary appeared on this week’s WWE NXT show. The TNA Knockout was revealed as Wendy Choo’s hand-picked opponent for NXT North American Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan. Despite a strong showing by Rosemary, Jordan got the win but was attacked by Choo after the match.

In a WWE NXT exclusive, Rosemary was asked about her alliance with Wendy Choo.

“Wendy, darling Wendy sent the call, and when your kinsman calls for help, you come to help. Even if we don’t always see eye to eye, even if we rule different realms, demons help demons. Wendy needed a hand. But what do you mean we didn’t get what we wanted from Kelani? Sure, we didn’t get the win, but we got in her head, didn’t we? Was she standing at the end of the night? No. She was on her back, clutched in Wendy’s grasp, just as the future is clutched in ours.”

Rosemary is just the latest TNA Wrestling star to step through the ‘prohibited portal’ and appear for WWE NXT. Other names involved in the crossover include Jordynne Grace, The Rascalz, and Joe Hendry. The latter also appeared on last night’s show and will challenge NXT Champion Ethan Page this Sunday at WWE NXT No Mercy.

On the TNA side of things, NXT talent including Izzi Dame, Tatum Paxley, and the No Quarter Catch Crew have appeared on their weekly show TNA iMPACT and at pay-per-views. Stay tuned to SE Scoops to see who is next to appear for the other as this relationship is proving to be a hit with fans.

Machine Gun Kelly Reveals SummerSlam Confrontation with Randy Orton

0

Machine Gun Kelly had some choice words for Randy Orton, and made his views perfectly clear about the Viper at WWE SummerSlam in Cleveland. For the August PLE, Kelly accompanied Logan Paul for his U.S. title match that saw the Maverick lose the gold to current champion LA Knight. Speaking on Paul’s ImPaulsive podcast, Kelly recalled seeing Orton backstage at the event.

“I saw Randy Orton, and I remember seeing Randy Orton talk s*** about me. And there’s a point where I’m going to practice a new version of myself. 3-2-1, I’m like ‘F*** that! Hey man, f*** you!’ I don’t know where you [Paul] were but all my boys were ‘Is this real? Is this part of the script?’ The amount of people that pinned me as the aggressor in every situation I’m in are so wrong.”

Orton didn’t compete at SummerSlam, but appeared on the following episode of Monday Night RAW where he confronted GUNTHER. Orton will challenge the WWE World Heavyweight Champion this Saturday at the first WWE Bash In Berlin PLE.

Machine Gun Kelly in WWE

Machine Gun Kelly is no stranger to appearing in WWE. In 2015, Kelly performed on WWE RAW, but ate a powerbomb on the stage by Kevin Owen for his troubles. Despite doing nothing to rile up the crowd other than perform his music, the fans cheered when Owens delivered the move and gave the former Universal Champion a ‘Thank You Owens’ chant.

Kelly also appeared at the December 4, 2017 edition of Monday Night RAW and would appear again that same month as part of Tribute to the Troops. In 2022, MGK served as the Executive Producer of the soundtrack for the WWE 2K22 video game. He would be included as a playable character in the game.

WWE Denies Report of Performance Center Move to Las Vegas

0

On Tuesday, a rumor began to circulate suggesting that WWE could consider moving its Performance Center to Las Vegas, Nevada. WrestleVotes reported that during an “all-employee” meeting held at WWE HQ, staff were told the PC would be moving to Sin City sometime “in the near future.”

Following WrestleVotes’ report, Fightful Select revealed that sources within WWE strongly denied that the company had definite plans to relocate the Performance Center to Las Vegas. This information came from “Top sources” within both WWE and TKO. In a statement on X, Sean Ross Sapp mentioned that one source indicated that Mark Shapiro, the executive named in the original report, was expressing that “…having a presence there is on the table.”

Despite this, WrestleVotes maintains that the initial report stating that WWE has plans to move the PC to Las Vegas potentially is still a reality and that the process would not be an “overnight thing.”

In July 2013, WWE opened the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, which became the company’s second primary location after WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The Performance Center replaced the original developmental initiative, “Florida Championship Wrestling.” Since then, the facility has been used for training/tryouts, and is the current home of the NXT band.

The move itself would make sense from a business standpoint. Since 2017, UFC has used Nevada as a base for both its company headquarters, “The UFC Performance Institute,” and its live event center, “The UFC Apex.”

Since both WWE and UFC became divisions TKO Group Holdings Inc. in September 2023, the conglomerate has made it clear that while the two companies operate separately, there would be opportunities for cross-promotional partnerships. In June, WWE held NXT: Battleground at UFC’s Apex, with both fans and those inside TKO touting the event as a wildly successful example of how the two giants in combat sports and entertainment could work together.

The WWE Performance Center Has Hosted Many WWE Events Aside From NXT

Aside from being the home of WWE’s developmental brand and main training facility, the venue has also been used to stage other major events for the company throughout its history.

The PC was famously the home of Wrestlemania 36, originally scheduled to be hosted inside Raymond James Stadium. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced WWE to move the event to the Performance Center. It became a two-night event in front of no audience. WWE also used the space to host episodes of RAW, SmackDown, Main Event, 205 Live, and four main roster PPVs before moving main roster shows to the “Thunderdome.”

In September 2021, the company redesigned the NXT set, ushering in the “NXT 2.0” relaunch of the developmental brand. While the “2.0” branding has been dropped in recent years, the arena’s new configuration has remained consistent.

Jesse Ventura Pitched a WWE Political Party to Vince McMahon

0

Vince McMahon may have approved some unique angles during his time, but the idea of a WWE political party proved too much for the billionaire. On a recent edition of the Insight podcast, WWE Hall of Famer/Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura shared the angle he pitched to McMahon.

“I went out to him and I said ‘Vince, we can do an angle right now. You can come out with the WWE and say we’re going to have our own nominee for president, the WWE party, the World Wrestling Party.'”

Ventura’s idea included getting ballot access in all 50 states, while on-screen, McMahon would tease that he’d be the party’s official candidate in the race to the White House. Just as McMahon would announce his candidacy, he’d be interrupted by ‘The Body.’

“I’m a governor. I’m the natural WWE candidate for president, then you do a schmoz where Vince and I get two wrestlers to represent us. Whoever wins gets the nomination.”

The match would see Ventura’s representative get the win, confirming Jesse as the official Presidential candidate representing the WWE Party. When asked why the angle didn’t play out, Ventura shared that McMahon didn’t bother to tell him ‘no.’

“He didn’t even bother to call me to turn me down. I thought that was the most disrespectful thing…  If he did just called me and said, Jesse, it’s too crazy. It’s too hokey. I don’t think we can do it. I would have said fine. I gave it a try. But he didn’t even call me back.”

While the WWE Party never left the drawing board, McMahon would be represented in a high-profile match with something on the line at WrestleMania 23. The ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ saw Donald Trump’s representative Bobby Lashley defeat McMahon’s Umaga, resulting in McMahon having his head shaved bald.

Wrestling & Politics

The WWE Party won’t be on the ballot this November, but plenty of wrestlers have attempted to enter the world of politics. Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs currently serves as the Mayor of Knox County, TN, and recently shared some strong words for the Democratic Party’s Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

The late Antonio Inoki was elected twice to Japan’s House of Councillors while The Great Sasuke was elected to Iwate’s Prefectural Assembly in 2003. In 2017, Linda McMahon, who lost two senate campaigns, was appointed Administrator, Small Business Administration, under President Trump.

Perhaps the most internationally recognized wrestler to enter office is known more for his political career than his time in the ring. Before his rise to political history, Abraham Lincoln wrestled in his teens and reportedly trained in catch-as-catch-can wrestling.

The future President held championship gold by the age of 21. According to eyewitness accounts at the time, a frustrated Lincoln once lifted an opponent who was fighting dirty by the neck, raised him in the air, and slammed him into the ground, a move not too different from today’s Chokeslam.

Ventura himself served as Governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003. The WWE Hall of Famer has teased running for President in the past but has never gone much further than that. He has endorsed the Harris/Walz ticket for this November’s election.

JBL Likes The Idea Of Teaming With Jeff Jarrett

0

Former WWE Champion JBL has been enjoying a resurgence this summer, much like Jeff Jarrett. Over the weekend, JBL stunned the wrestling world when he showed up in GCW and delivered two Clotheslines from Hell to Effy. His actions helped Mance Warner retain the GCW World Championship in a ladder match, ‘flexing’ that he can still have a big influence whenever he chooses.

Jarrett could be credited with setting the blueprint for veteran wrestlers stepping back into the spotlight in unexpected settings. Jarrett famously sparked a feud with Effy in Game Changer Wrestling, smashing him over the head with a guitar. Jarrett’s since made multiple appearances for AAA. JBL followed suit there as well, accompanying Nic Nemeth to the ring for his AAA Triplemanía XXXII Mega Championship match against Alberto El Patron.

Since Jarrett busted that guitar over Effy’s head that fateful night, the third generation star has seemingly been everywhere. From Ric Flair’s Last Match to Wembley Stadium for AEW, fans seemingly can’t get enough.

JBL & Jeff Jarrett: The Last Outlaws

The parallels between Jarrett and JBL have not gone unnoticed. One fan recently suggested how exciting it would be to see these two legends team up. JBL didn’t hesitate to agree.

When the fan asked, “Could you imagine the formation of The Last Outlaws?” JBL replied, “Yes I could.”

With their shared history and recent ventures, the possibility of a JBL and Jeff Jarrett partnership is an exciting prospect for wrestling fans.

Bradshaw and Jarrett’s History

Throughout their decades-long careers, JBL and Jeff Jarrett have crossed paths numerous times, but they’ve never teamed up together.

Notable encounters include Bradshaw’s victories over Jarrett by disqualification on WWE’s RAW in 1998 and 1999, as well as their matches for the NWA North American Heavyweight Title, where Bradshaw defeated Jarrett in February 1998.

Despite these numerous clashes, the idea of these two seasoned veterans finally joining forces presents is an opportunity that is (hopefully) too good to pass up.

Will JBL Come Out of Retirement?

John Bradshaw Layfield retired from active competition a decade ago, but his recent wrestling appearances and these comments to Slam Wrestling last week indicate he’ll dust off his feared Clothesline From Hell again.

“I’m looking for an investment and looking maybe to do something with AAA, and I don’t know. We’ll see. I enjoyed what they did. There’s whatever the crowd capacity was, the building was full. 15, 20,000 people, and they drew a heck of a crowd.”

Ex-AEW Star: It’s No Place For Young Wrestlers To Learn

0

Brock Anderson believes that AEW’s ‘just TV’ nature has resulted in no ‘setup’ for young talent signed to the promotion to learn the basics. On the Under the Ring podcast, Brock spoke about his time with AEW and his belief that he needed more time to learn away from televised wrestling.

“Looking back now, I wasn’t ready for that because it — for young guys, there is no setup to really learn and grasp the business. It’s just basically just TV.”

Anderson signed a contract with AEW in 2021 and news of this was broken in March of that year on his father Arn’s podcast. Brock’s legendary father helped with his training, as did Q.T. Marshall, Glacier, and Lodi. Brock wrestled 38 times for AEW and shared the ring with notable names including Cody Rhodes, The Acclaimed, and the Blackpool Combat Club. Anderson racked up an impressive 22-16 win/loss record before parting the promotion in late 2023.

AEW and Developing New Talent

Since launching in 2019, AEW has been almost exclusively a broadcast promotion, with only a handful of live events, dubbed ‘House Rules’ shows to its name. Unlike its competitors at WWE, AEW does not have an official in-company developmental system.

The closest Tony Khan’s first promotion got to this was its Dark and Dark: Elevation shows, though these were still broadcast and neither exists today. In 2022, Khan acknowledged that Dark shows were supposed to be “somewhat of a developmental show” before the COVID-19 pandemic changed things.

Khan’s reasoning, as he told the Pro Wrestling Torch podcast, was that the pandemic left plenty of already-trained independent talent itching for a chance to work on a show that was still being broadcast, such as Dark. With a bounty of developed talent ready to work, Khan made use of these already-trained wrestlers, shifting away from the ‘developmental’ intentions of the show.
