Video: Tommy Dreamer Explains Why He’s Never Taking Another Chokeslam

12

On July 12th, ECW Original Tommy Dreamer took his final chokeslam during a Lone Star Championship Wrestling match with Lance Hoyt.

Dreamer wrote the following a few days after taking the move, which you can watch above, to explain why he will never take another one.

There comes a time in every persons life they say uggh im getting old. We can fight it as much as possible but it happens. It is harder to come to terms with many athletes that they are losing a step. Ironically I watched a story about Earl Campbell the iconic running back for the Houston Oilers whose punishing style made him famous. He has a myriad of back issues walks w/a walker from when the documentary was made. He said after he got traded, he had the toughest call to make & he called his wife & said im losing a step. Its time to retire. Well on Sunday in Houston Texas. I took my last ever chokeslam. This move was invented by Paul Heyman. He visualized it & gave it to a wrestler named 911. Well I took my share of them from him as well as from Brian Lee which made me famous for being crazy & extreme. I actually enjoyed taking them. Ive taken them on chairs, concrete, a cinderblock, outside on someones lawn. Into a trash can, into a dumpster, from the top of the ECW Arena, the top of steel cages, you name it ive taken them. Well I took this one on Sunday & I felt something weird. PAIN. & heard crunch. Wasnt Lance Hoyts fault he placed me perfect. Im just 44 & after a 20min hardcore match my chokeslam bump card has expired. Going into my own companies largest show im hurt. Im pissed at myself because when im performing in ring im still 25 years old, but my body reminded me im 44 w/a broken neck & back. So thank you Chokeslam we had a great relationship. Ive taken them from 911,Brian Lee, The Undertaker, Kane, Test, Big Show and a few I probably forgot. I will heal, I will fight thru the pain but knowing my wrestling career is on the tail end of ending is the hardest part. No regrets, I got a few good matches left in me. Thanks for reading

Rey Mysterio Said He Hesitated Returning To The Ring After Perro Aguayo Jr’s Death

6

Rey Mysterio told Dan Gelston of the AP that that he wants to honor the late Perro Aguayo Jr., who died in the ring, while the matches continued.

“It’s that Mexican mentality of wrestlers,” Mysterio said. “You do it because they’d want you to do it. You lace up, you throw your mask on and you go out there and perform. In your mind, you’re performing for the fans and you’re performing for them in heaven.”

Mysterio also admitted that he had some issues returning to the ring following Aguayo’s tragic death.

“It was hard to get back,” he said. “I was doubting myself. I didn’t know if this was what I wanted to continue to do or if I just needed a little bit of time. There were just so many mixed emotions. The people that I work with in the ring, they helped me out. The boys from AAA made me feel loved. They’ve helped me cope with it. The fans, the family, they all lent their hands of support. This is not the time to hang up the mask.”

Update: Steve Austin Vehemently Defends Dana White’s “Fake” Comments

9

On the latest edition of the Steve Austin Show – Unleashed! , Austin is joined by UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier. UFC President Dana White was brought up during the interview and in particular his comments last weekend regarding the WWE being “fake” which were made after a fan called out UFC PPV prices.

During the interview, both Austin and Cormier made some very interesting comments regarding the “no-no” word of “fake” in pro wrestling — and surprisingly enough — the person defending each side is the absolute opposite person you would expect, along with the reason behind their decisions.

Update: Hulk Hogan Looking At Possible Jail Time For Telling Lies Under Oath?

24

As we reported on Saturday afternoon, The National Enquirer ran a story this week regarding the possibility that WWE Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan perjured himself in a deposition.

The following is the entire relevant portion of the July 2nd hearing transcript that’s being referred to and used as evidence in the case involving Hogan (Terry Bollea.)

The context one would need to know when reading the following is that Gawker attorney Seth Berlin is trying to get the F.B.I. to re-issue documents regarding their investigation into the sex-tape extortion attempt without redactions that should not have been made.

“But what these documents show, and then I’ll come back and I can talk a little bit about the exemptions and the indexes, but let me tell you what our concern is, Your Honor. So in this investigation what we know is that Mr. Bollea — this is not — I’m not treading on secret ground here. What we know is that Mr. Bollea came with his lawyer, Mr. Houston, to the FBI and asked for an investigation, which they conducted. And what we know from Mr. Hardy’s last declaration is that part of this investigation yielded three DVDs that have encounters involving the three key participants in this — Mrs. Clem, Mr. Bollea, and for portions of it Mr. Clem.

Each of those people has testified differently, they have all said different things about what actually happened, when it happened, how often it happened, whether — what was known. And so one of the reasons why we said we would like to get — we started by just saying look, we thought we would find, which we eventually got in yesterday’s stack, statements by Mr. Bollea and his lawyer, and to see whether what he was saying to the FBI matched what he is saying in our lawsuit.

Turns out, without getting into the specifics, they don’t, that we have essentially under oath testimony to the FBI and we have under oath testimony in our case directly at odds with one another. So we have a situation — and it’s very unfortunate that this is two days or one business day before we’re supposed to start a trial on this matter, but we have a situation where the key participant, the plaintiff, is telling us one thing under oath and telling the FBI something else. So this is why we’re asking — and you can’t use that document to impeach a person if there is a bunch of blanks in it that somebody is saying well, that’s private even though it’s already public.”

Jim Ross Blog: JR Returning To WWE As An Announcer?, Diva Revolution & More

9

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official blog section with his latest thoughts and opinions on a number of subjects. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On the Diva Revolution: “Happy to see the WWE Divas get three segments of TV time on Smackdown Thursday night. They all maximized their minutes and while Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks get plenty of pub, and well deserved I might add, don’t sleep on the others ladies especially Naomi who is a gifted athlete and has been a standout since I saw her first start in FCW in Tampa. If these women continue to work as hard to get better at their jobs as they did to get to the main roster then they will continue to earn more TV time, more money and contribute to the overall success of the talent roster which should be every talent’s goal no matter the company.”

On returning to WWE as an announcer: “Did a short interview with Bleacher Report and got asked the same question that I generally get daily on Twitter and that is if I’d ever consider going back to announcing for WWE. First of all, no talks of that nature have taken place, I am not interested in going back on the road 51 weeks a year and WWE is looking to get younger in all areas and not older. Would I like to broadcast a match at a Wrestlemania? Of course…who wouldn’t? That’s the extent of my thoughts on that matter. I had a great, 21 year run in WWE for which I’m grateful but we’ve both moved on. However, if any one in the biz can honestly look you in the eye and say that being a part of a Wrestlemania presentation wouldn’t be fun then I question their level of honesty. I assume some may feel that way but the vast majority would say yes. That;s the entire story and I’m happy doing what I’m doing and that is being able to work my own schedule and do projects that I enjoy without extensive travel.”

On Lucha Underground season finale: “Really enjoyed Lucha Underground Wednesday night and thought their season finale was excellent. I’m intrigued by a weekly pro wrestling show having a ‘season.’ The matches were overall strong, emotional and at times graphically old school. The Vampiro match was simplistic but highly effective and compelling. I’m still not a fan of the intergender content but LU handles it about as well as one can. Thought Alberto El Patron v. Johnny Mundo with the Melina cameo was a great start to the two hour show as well. As are most fans, I’m anxious to see if this group has a season two. Fingers crossed for them.”

The National Enquirer Alleges Possible Perjury Charge Against Hulk Hogan

31

The National Enquirer ran a sensationalistic story on Saturday claiming Hulk Hogan could be thrown in jail for perjury.

While that might be a bit of a stretch, the story does claim that court transcripts show that Hogan (Terry Bollea) allegedly made conflicting statements to the F.B.I. and in deposition to lawyers for Gawker.com.

According to the transcripts Gawker had obtained, they showed that during a hearing on July 2nd, Gawker’s attorney, Seth Berlin, told the judge that he had learned Hogan made statements under oath that were directly at odds with each other.

The story is loaded with a lot of “ifs” and there does not appear to be anything imminent at this point.

Previously, it had been reported about certain contradictory testimony Hogan made previously and the story mostly rehashes previously released news.

Former WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio was a guest on The LAW this past week to promote Sunday’s TripleMania PPV. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His match against Myzteziz this Sunday:

“I definitely think this is something that not only we wanted but the fans demanded. I think it will define our legacy. We both have similarities in our styles, in our outfit… Over the years he has spoke highly about how he has admired my career for so long. I saw him wrestle in Mexico & many times on TV & he was the future of Mexican wrestling at the time. It’s definitely a dream match – without a doubt. Details On Final Movie Set To Feature Roddy Piper In Co-Starring Role

4

Dark Waters Productions issued the following press release today to announce that the new film “The Reconciler,” will feature one of — if not the — final big screen performances by the late WWE Hall Of Famer, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

“The Reconciler” Movie Pays Tribute to the Late WWE Legend Roddy Piper

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Dark Water Productions — “The Reconciler” will be coming out later this year without one of its most beloved co-stars to celebrate its success. Rowdy Roddy Piper, 61, unexpectedly passed away of cardiac arrest onFriday, July 31, 2015. While initially being well known for his wrestling abilities and as a WWE villain, the depth of his talent in other areas was surely being recognized in his part in “The Reconciler”. His future in acting looked very promising. Born in Canada, his home in Hollywood allowed him to expand his potential in films.

One of Roddy’s final roles will be that of the detective, Russ, attempting to make some sense, if any, of all the disappearances in his town where he presents his acting skill at a new level. With a strange thread of God woven into the script, it is expected to be another success for all involved. Origin Releasing with over twenty-five years of successful experience in the DVD and Television market worldwide is working closely with Black Wolf Media in distributing this creatively done thriller. Release is set for November 2015 and will be the lasting tribute to not only an incredible wrestler, but also a superb actor, beloved husband and father.

Origin Releasing and Black Wolf Media Group have a long list of successful projects and were looking forward to their continuing relationship with Roddy and the talent left still untapped. It was his rugged looks that would first catch your eye, but then his acting skills would shine through and you would find yourself captivated by his natural ability in front of the camera.

It is with deep sadness any future endeavors for Roddy Piper will be remembered as “what could have been”. He will most certainly be missed in the industry that welcomed him with open arms. Origin Releasing and Black Wolf Media Group extend their deepest sympathies to Roddy’s family as the audiences look forward to seeing an indelible performance from him one more time in “The Reconciler”.

Jim Ross Q&A: Four-Hour SummerSlam, Piper Memories, Mike Tenay/WWE, More

1

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official blog section with his latest thoughts and opinions. Below are some of the highlights from the update.

On getting a job as an announcer or referee in WWE: “One would go about getting a TV job at WWE just like any other broadcast entity. They seem to require a college degree in the field now and some outside the wrestling business experience so that candidates can build a reel.”

On Scott Hall or Bobby Heenan on The Ross Report: “Scott and I have discussed him coming on the Ross Report and I’m sure that we will some day. Heenan would be a great one, obviously, under more positive circumstances. I’m lucky in that I have no shortage of guests and our podcast is growing every week.”

On memories of Roddy Piper: “Just building a relationship with him after we had both been in the business many years before ever meeting. I enjoyed talking about a variety of things with Roddy. He was unique and will be missed.’

On if WWE will be able to pull off a four-hour SummerSlam show: “Yes, to varying degrees but some won’t be too through or deep. There is one match at Summer Slam that will sell the show and that is Taker vs. Lesnar and the rest is support material with the exception of a potential Rollins Vs Cena title vs. title match.”

On why WWE has never hired Mike Tenay: “That would hae been a TV department decision and one that I would not have been in the loop for whatsoever. Mike could have helped WWE in many ways especially now with the WWE Network.”

“PCB’s Charlotte & Becky Lynch clash with Team B.A.D.’s Naomi & Sasha Banks.”

– Former WWE, WCW, ECW and TNA star Jerry Lynn underwent successful neck surgery at a hospital in Nashville on Thursday. PWInsider notes that the surgery took longer than expected due to the amount of bone spurs that had to be removed from Lynn’s neck. Lynn is currently resting in the hospital.

– NXT star and former Olympian Chad Gable spoke to WWE.com this week about his new tag team with Jason Jordan:

“Even though it took some convincing for him to give me a chance, I couldn’t be happier with the results. We just clicked from the moment the bell rang. It’s not very often that a team has chemistry from the very first moment. Beyond our chemistry, we have enough credentials between us to make any team jealous.”

“I want to get involved in the NXT Tag Team Championship scene immediately, and when I say ‘get involved,’ I mean take the championships. I have never said I’m going to do something and not done it. This will be no different. Ready, willing and Gable.”

CM Punk Interview: Moving On From Wrestling, Hogan Racism Controversy & More

11

Former WWE Superstar turned UFC fighter CM Punk recently spoke with Ted Gruber of RedEyeChicago.com to promote his professional MMA debut, which he’s hoping will take place before the end of the year. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

If He’s Sick Of People Asking Him About Returning to WWE:

“Yes and no. It irks me a little bit because I think it’s the same people that are asking it. But at the same time you have to roll with the punches because it comes with the territory. It’s probably what I’m most known for, and there are fans out there that miss me in that venue. I am not one to draw in the past and I’m sailing on.”

His Reaction To Hulk Hogan’s Racism Controversy:

“I don’t really have a comment on it. Like I said, though, stuff that you say can come back and bite you in the ass. Everybody gets what they deserve in the world. Hopefully he issued a sincere apology and we can all move on from it. We all have said stupid things, and I don’t think you should judge somebody on what they said a long time ago. But some of the stuff is harsher than other things. It is what it is.”

Daniel Bryan Supporting His MMA Career:

“I thought it was pretty cool. Everybody in WWE whether they admit it or not are big fans of the UFC. Like everything else, they are 10 years behind the curve on everything, but they are slowly warming up to MMA. Now it’s all Ronda Rousey. But a couple of years ago when I mentioned her they told me the sport was despicable. Everything they are doing now is something I told them five years ago. They live in a bubble. When you are on the road this much, you are “all in” and nothing else matters; I lived in a bubble. They built this empire and they are the best at what they do. But they still have no [bleeping] idea what goes on outside their bubble.”
