Big Show Talks About His Role In WWE Studios’ Vendetta

5

Big Show recently spoke with MoviePilot.com to promote his new WWE Studios film, Vendetta, which is now on sale. Here are some highlights of what he said:

The Aggression He Showed In The Movie:

“Yeah, that was the Soska Twins, Jen and Sylvia. If you know anything about those girls, they’re really go-getters and are positive on what they want from a character. Which is really cool to work with because they were meticulous about how they wanted the character to be and how dark they wanted it. It was a lot of fun working with them. A lot of times I would leave the set at the end of the day and go, “Wow, that was really, really violent. Holy smokes.” And when I saw it, I was really happy with how it turned out. It’s not a likable character unless you’re into bad guys. If you’re into bad guys, then you’re probably going to like my character in this one. He’s definitely a jerk, first class.”

People Expecting A Gentle Giant, Based On His Previous Movie Roles:

“There’s none of that. There’s nothing redeemable or likable about anything my character does in this movie. My character’s very dark. And if you look at the movie, you have Dean Cain, who’s America’s golden boy that played Superman and is a good guy in real life and he had to do some really dark things to go after me. He had to become a monster to get to the monster. And it was really great to see the arc of his character, too.”

His Favorite Moment In The Movie:

“I think one of my favorite moments of the movie was when I welcomed Dean Cain to jail. That very first interaction between him and I at the lunch table. There was so much animal language going on there, alpha male back and forth kind of deal, the stuff with his tray, letting him know who’s prison it is and what’s going to happen to him and just the looks he was giving back to me, I kept thinking he was going to stab me with his spork. That was one of my favorite moments.”

Adam Cole Talks ROH-Destination America, A Potential Future With WWE

5

Former Ring of Honor World Champion Adam Cole joined the Greg DeMarco Show this week to discuss his return from injury, the company’s brand new cable television deal, the Best In The World pay-per-view and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His reaction to ROH’s Destination America television deal:

“It’s huge. We’re in 57 million additional homes. It’s pretty exciting. We always knew that this was going to be a slow but steady incline. It’s awesome to be able to saw “Wednesdays at 8pmeastern you can see Ring of Honor on your television on Destination America.” It floored the locker-room. We were just as shocked as you guys were, trust me. When you hear the word(s) national, cable television that just seems big league. It’s exciting for me to say that I’m going to be able to wrestle on cable TV.”

How soon he’s looking for another chance at the ROH World Championship:

“I’m looking after Best In The World, that’s going to be my entire focus. A lot of people were surprised that my return match was against AJ Styles, who is arguable the best in the world. So I’m not looking to ease back into anything, I’m looking to jump right back into the fire. The last thing that I challenged for in Ring Of Honor before I said goodbye for five months was the ROH World Championship. After me & The Kingdom take care of the Bullet Club, my goal certainly will be going after the ROH World Championship once again.”

How being out of action for five months changed him:

“It’s mentally the most challenging thing I’ve ever gone through in my career. Fortunately Ring of Honor took care of me while I was on the shelf. The truth is, we’re so focused and so driven on being the best that we can be, we want to be a part of the show, anybody on the ROH roster, we want to be a part of the event. It was very, very mentally difficult for me. It was good for me, as a man, to go through that maturing process.”

On his return match against AJ Styles:

“There was a second there where I was not going to be cleared to come back and wrestle AJ [Styles]. I was actually cleared on Monday. Not only was that my first match back, I hadn’t stepped foot in a professional wrestling in five month. The butterflies were strong that Tuesday evening.”

On the potential of wrestling in the WWE:

“My immediate focus has changed a lot. If you were to ask me this question two or three years ago my answer would have been “I’m focused on Ring of Honor but getting to WWE is my priority.” Of course the thought is there, but that thought is getting smaller and smaller and smaller, and my immediate focus is more and more on Ring of Honor. I really do believe in this group. I’ve literally grown up as a man in Ring of Honor, and I feel like there’s a lot more left for me to do. It’s really cool to be able to be part of a group that you feel like you’re climbing the ladder with. That very much is my focus right now.”

His Ring of Honor contract status, and if he is exclusive to Ring of Honor:

“That was a question that has come up quite a bit, and I’ve been waiting for the right time to say it. The contract that I currently am under does only permit me to work for Ring of Honor. They’re much more cautious of their guys being as healthy as they can be, and obviously the financial compensation is very different for those guys who are able to fully commit to Ring of Honor. As of now you won’t be seeing me out in Reseda [for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla], but trust me when I saw “Never Say Never” is a saying you must live by in wrestling.”

Other topics include exactly what he was doing when he learned of the Ring Of Honor television deal, his amateur wrestling experience, his love for the UFC and Mixed Martial Arts, which present or former UFC fighter he’d like to see in Ring Of Honor and more.

37

– Cole asked Owens why he attacked Machine Gun Kelly on RAW. Owens says it is what it is – he got carried away. He sent out an apology on Twitter and that’s that. Owens said he doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder and takes offense to all the attention he’s getting now on WWE TV, since he’s been defending the NXT Title with pride for months now. Jeff Jarrett Talks About His Vision For Global Force Wrestling, TNA & More

4

Jeff Jarrett recently spoke with Aaron Oster of Rolling Stone about Global Force Wrestling. Jarrett spoke in-depth about the company’s identity, his feelings about TNA Wrestling and more.

When asked about what defines Global Force Wrestling, Jarrett said they plan to be “forward-thinking and innovative.” They’ve formed alliances with other promotions around the world so we can share talent. He emphasized that every wrestler has a story and he plans to focus on who these athletes are. While they will certainly feature some storylines, their goal is not necessarily to “tell stories” – they want to document stories.

Jarrett was asked if we’re going to see him as a regular character on the GFW shows, Jarrett said flat out, “No. I’m certainly not going to wrestle for the foreseeable future. I’m not going to say that I’m retired, but 99.9 percent of my time is going to be dedicated to promoting the brand and promoting the athletes of Global Force Wrestling.”

As for their ultimate goal, Jarrett said, “We want to put up compelling content with compelling wrestlers, and that will be a barometer of success. We just want to be a positive influence within the wrestling industry.”

Neville On Creating Red Arrow Finisher, Vince’s Opinion Of NXT Talent & More

9

WWE Superstar Neville recently appeared as a guest on Ring Rust Radio to talk about a number of subjects. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On making the move to the main roster: “I think NXT prepared me for Raw and Smackdown more than I ever could have hoped for. I was with NXT for about two years, so by the time I debuted on Raw I felt very much ready. There was a level of concern but I was lucky in the sense that I got the chance to wrestle some of the top guys early on. Guys like Seth Rollins, Sheamus, and more recently John Cena. So it was a concern that I wouldn’t get those types of opportunities when I came in but I was fortunate enough to get them and grab them. I was very happy in the way I transferred and the opportunities I got.”

On his U.S. Open Challenge match against John Cena: “That match was huge for me. It was very surreal to be standing across the ring from John Cena on Monday Night Raw. I think it really did a lot for me. It was a real opportunity I needed and John is a WWE Superstar. He has been the top guy in the WWE for years and years. So the fact that I had that opportunity and went toe to toe with him was amazing. It put me in front of the eyes of the WWE Universe and the world. That was a really cool experience, it was so much fun and it was priceless.”

On surprising a young WWE fan on the Meredith show and the best part of being a WWE Superstar: “That’s the most rewarding thing for me to reach out to the kids. It’s really crazy but it’s the most important thing we do. I really didn’t expect that reaction like everyone gave me being on the Meredith Vieira show. I was sitting in the pit in back, and it made me realize how important what we do really is. That’s the most important thing is how we reach the WWE Universe and how we inspire people in their life. If I can do that and be given the chance to do it, it’s really the best thing we do.”

On how working the indie scene helped him before coming to NXT: “The landscape is completely changing and I love it. The way things are working out and the opportunities people I grew up with are getting. I feel the independent scene is important and it fueled my passion for four years. It taught me the life lessons that helped make me who I am today and helped me on the path I followed to living my dream job every day. The independent scene is hugely important and the roads you travel in it shape you. My career path is the best I could have hoped for and that’s thanks to independent wrestling and territories across the world.”

On how he came up with his Red Arrow finisher: “The Red Arrow took a long time to come together and I wanted to make a move that was unique to myself. It’s a move I built up with building blocks. I wanted to do a corkscrew moonsault backwards, so I had the idea of doing it forwards like the shooting star corkscrew, and I was aware no one else did that in wrestling. If I could perfect this technique it would be unique to me. So it took a long time and me putting these building blocks together and had to come over the fear involved. Eventually, I nailed it and knew it was going to be my own. It’s been my move now for a long time, about six or seven years now I’ve been using the Red Arrow.”

On how he feels Vince McMahon looks at NXT talent: “It’s hard to say with Vince being super busy with the main brands and PPVs. I don’t know how much time he has to see NXT. I know the guys like the Shield and the Wyatts who go through NXT and found success on Raw and SmackDown paved the way for more movement from NXT to the main roster. It’s really hard to say for definite to be honest.”

Tyrus Talks Character Changes In WWE, Transitioning To TNA & More

1

TNA star Tyrus (formerly known as Brodus Clay) recently appeared as a guest on The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On the transition to TNA and being a “big man”: “I was focused on reestablishing my work. Especially during the end of my time in the WWE and I feel like I wasn’t able to do that. For me it was important to get back to what I think is important and that is building your work. I spent so much time under Double A and Dean Malenko. I’ve never wanted to be labeled as a “big guy”. I feel like the term big guy is a crutch and gives you an excuse to be lazy in the ring. I don’t work like that. Since being in TNA I don’t do that. There is nothing worse then seeing a guy getting hit in the face with a dropkick and not taking a bump. TNA is allowing me to work like that. I like the slow build. I am reestablishing myself and building a new persona. I’m not piggy-backing off my time in the WWE, although I really enjoyed my time in the WWE. I like the ability to build something new.”

On being booked as a monster vs. a comedy act: “My frustration was why can’t you do both. You can have an Apollo Creed entrance but when the bell rings why can’t you be Clubber Lang in the ring. My goal was to bring the two things together. You need time in the ring for that and people to give you the ability to do what you do. I don’t like the body-gurard role. I don’t need anyone in front of me. I never have. As the Funkasaurus I established that. The situation with EC3 is different. My presence is adding to EC3 and elevating the whole story and is more of a game changer. When you are not booked to the level of your potential it is frustrating.”

On wrestlers not being given the platform to excel and break through: “You see it happen all the time in the WWE. Guys who should no doubt be on the top of the card and be main eventers. Guys like Cesaro. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be on his second World Title run, guys like Jack Swagger, Big E the list goes on and on of guys that are there right now that could change the game. The Triple H factory as I call it seems to be the running the show and the ratings result in it. Hopefully someone is able to change that and break through. The last guy to break through was Daniel Bryan and he was able to be bigger then the machine. If this was 20 years ago the fans would have crazy choices of people to choose from. There were so many stars. I feel like that has been taken away from the fans.”

On having choices to work outside WWE: “There are so many Independent promotions that are growing. The International scene is growing. TNA is kicking again, Global (GFW) is coming up, Lucha, Big Time Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Syndicate it seems like the territories are kind of coming back again. I was in Oklahoma and we were wrestling infront of 2500 people. People have a choice and it is different. Maybe 5 years ago there wasn’t many choices but now things are kind of changing and its exciting to be a wrestling fan. I’m having the time of my life. I love what I am doing. I am my own boss, I am traveling all over this continent and I am busy as hell doing what I want to do. To me, Indy kind of represents not the machine. The majority of the wrestling world is aware that there is something else out there an there are stars out there. My popularity continues to grow outside of WWE and I really don’t look back.”

Daniel Bryan Reveals His Favorite Career Moment

20

Daniel Bryan recently spoke with The Asbury Park Press to promote his June 28th appearance at iPlay America in Freehold, NJ.  During the interview, Bryan revealed his favorite moment in the wrestling industry, which surprisingly was not his WWE Championship win at WrestleMania XXX.

Bryan said his favorite moment in wrestling took place during the December 9th, 2013 edition of RAW during the ‘Championship Ascension Ceremony’ segment prior to John Cena and Randy Orton’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship unification match. Aside from the staggering reaction Bryan got from the crowd that disrupted the segment, that was the last night his father got to see him wrestle live before he passed away.

Bryan said,

“It was just supposed to be an interview between (on-air authority figure) Triple-H, Randy Orton and John Cena, but the fans there weren’t having it. They just started chanting ‘Yes!’ and ‘Yes!’ and ‘Yes!’ and ‘Daniel Bryan!’ and ‘Yes!’ and more Yes-ing to the point that they were ruining the segment. John Cena is so smart and so quick on his feet, he pulls me forward and asks me something to the effect of ‘What’s your name?’ I said, ‘Daniel Bryan,’ and everybody cheers. ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Aberdeen, Washington.’ Everybody cheers louder. ‘Were either your mom or dad a WWE superstar?’ I said that no, my dad is a log scaler and logging is big in the area, so then everybody cheered.”

“It’s mostly special because that was the last time my dad got to see me wrestle before he passed away. And not only that, but he got mentioned. For me, that’s a very special moment. That’s my favorite, even more so than WrestleMania XXX. If you were to ask me my favorite moment in wrestling, that’d be it.”

Jerry Lawler Shares Memories Of Randy Savage, Advice He Would Give Newcomers

2

WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry Lawler recently spoke with Crave Online to promote his new WWE DVD and Blu-ray set. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On what he misses most about the territory days: “Probably the fun of the camaraderie you had with the other wrestlers. You spent a lot more time with those guys than superstars get to these days. The spontaneity of territory wrestling [was] to me a little more fun than it is now. The travel now is brutal even though you’re flying. But back in the territory days, you drove to the town you were wrestling in and then drove home after the matches. There was a lot of fun on the road, a lot of ribs, and a lot of practical jokes.”

On his memories of the Poffo outlaw promotion and if he had any favorite memories from when he worked with Randy Savage: “That was another situation, as you know if you’re from Lexington (KY). Lexington was kind of the headquarters for the Poffos, which of course Randy Savage and his brother, “Leaping” Lanny Poffo, their real last name was Poffo, and their dad Angelo Poffo. They started up their own company. That was just one of the things that happened back in the day.

The established company would call it outlaw wrestling … They would have matches in Lexington and then the following week my company would come and have matches in Lexington. You were kind of in a promotional war and it was kind of like the Monday Night Wars except on a smaller scale. The Poffos, they were kind of underfunded so they were hanging on by a thread there towards the end before they finally just called it quits because they were losing money on a weekly basis and they came to us and said “hey, let’s try to work together a little bit.”

… One of my favorite memories of that is when Randy Savage knew that we were wrestling in Memphis and I would leave my home in Nashville like at noon and drive down to Memphis for the matches that night. One Monday, Randy Savage brought a camera crew down to my house in Nashville and he gets out of his car and they’re filming him and he says, “This is Jerry Lawler’s house. Lawler come out here” and he’s banging on my door and he says, “Look at this. This coward Lawler is afraid to come out and face me.” He’s cutting this big promo knowing that I’m not home, of course. Then they went back and showed it on their television show and made it look like he came down to my house and I was afraid to come out. Then he and Bill Dundee actually crossed paths at a truck stop and they came to blows and got in a fight.

They had to be pulled apart or something there so it was a pretty heated rivalry but finally, because of financial reasons, Randy’s dad came to us and said “Look we can’t continue on so is there a possibility of us working together and having some matches together in co-promotions?” and that wound to me and Randy Savage having a match at Rupp Arena. We sold out Rupp Arena, 23,000 people which, at the time was unheard of, in a Loser Leaves Town match. Right after that was when Randy started in the WWE.”

On the best advice he could give to newcomers in the business: “That’s one of the things I’ve had over the years. A lot of people come to me and ask for advice and I always tell them man, it’s so hard for me to try and tell you what will work for you or what you should do because everybody is not only different. Everybody got into the business in a different way and all of their circumstances are so different so it’s hard to give that umbrella type advice.

I always just say, and this is the main thing and I think it’s really worked for me, I don’t know if it works for everyone else but I always just say “Don’t take yourself too serious.” Don’t take anything you do in this business too serious. It’s not life or death. It’s entertainment. Have fun with it. If you do like I’ve done to do something for a living that you have fun at, you’ll feel like in the end you never had to work a day in your life.”

Sean Waltman Blasts TMZ For Releasing Dusty Rhodes 911 Call

31

Sean “X-Pac” Waltman is not happy that TMZ released the 911 call from Dusty Rhodes’ wife on Tuesday.

Watlman posted the following response on Twitter, noting that he’s disgusted by their lack of discretion and the lack of respect shown to Dusty Rhodes and his family by publishing the audio.

“Dear @TMZ & @HarveyLevinTMZ,

I have defended you to critics & Twitter followers when they say you’re not a legit news source. If you weren’t, so much of the media wouldn’t be citing you as their source for stories. I never minded any story you’ve reported on me, as I take responsibility for my actions & accept the consequences. That being said, Myself & I dare say countless others are completely disgusted with your policy of releasing 911 calls from families desperately pleading for someone to save their loved one. The recent release of the 911 Call from the family of Dusty Rhodes & the release of Ric Flair’s 911 call when his son Reid died is shameful & sickening. You can defend it as being newsworthy, but in reality you’re just feeding the sickening thirst for this kind of voyeurism in today’s society. The late, great Randy Savage’s father(also deceased) Angelo Poffo, who wrestled as The Mi$er had a saying that went “Where money lies, Honor dies.” Is there really that much money made by airing these calls, so your followers can hear these people at arguably the worst moments of their lives? Maybe there is enough money in it for you to trade in your honor. I’m usually a fan, but completely disgusted by your lack of discretion.

Truly, Sean Waltman”

Dana Warrior Writes Detailed Blog On Memory Of Ultimate Warrior

6

Today, June 16th, would have been the 56th birthday of WWE Hall Of Famer Ultimate Warrior. On Tuesday, Warrior’s widow — Dana Warrior — took to social media to write about her late husband.

Below is Dana Warrior’s latest Facebook blog.

Warriors must not stare too long through the garden gate that has been closed to them….

I have been very reflective as the second June 16th neared after Warrior’s death. I always knew I would observe the day he came into the world with our girls in one way or another…I just was not sure how. There have been a couple things written that have been touchstones for me to get through the grieving process. One came from a book called tiny beautiful things by Cheryl Strayed. Under the advice columnist nom de plume, Sugar, Strayed spoons out some of the most delicious advice I’ve ever read. The girls and I were in Hawaii observing our first birthdays and Christmas since Warrior’s passing and I read the book three times cover to cover tears streaming down my face beneath sunglasses. The entry that struck me the most was of a father devastated by the loss of his beloved son. The young man was in his early twenties and had been killed senselessly by a selfish drunk driver careening through a red light striking the young man’s car, killing him on impact. The father writes the most gut wrenching account of his pain to Sugar and she responds with her raw, authentic candor. The line that lives with me most is what has propelled me forward. She tells the dad there was no day written for his son beyond the day he died. There was no twenty two or twenty three, there was just the years, days, and months he did live to treasure. When I read those words I began to accept the fifty four years of Warrior’s life as his destiny. I began to accept the twenty years of our life together as not just a gift but as the whole gift…not a cheated gift, or a partial gift but as the entirety of the gift I was given. I shouldered much sorrow over what would never be…the things we would never do, the milestones we would never reach and now I am starting to accept, those things were never in the plan from the start.

We all have things in our lives that do not go the way we believed they would back when the dream was just a whisper in our sleep. Whatever your sadness or disappointment or broken dream might be it is time to set them down. It is time to turn away from the garden that is locked to you and walk in the direction of a new one. I promise there are flowers to smell on the path to the next garden and its gates will open to you..let the sunshine usher you in…

Today had my husband lived he would have turned 56. We would have baked him a cake and taken him to a movie where he would have eaten chocolate almonds and popcorn. I would have decorated the dining room with streamers and balloons and we would have spoiled him with his favorite dinner at home. My husband won’t turn 56. He will forever be 54. He will forever have gone out on top having seen all you warriors, heard your cheers, felt your love one final time. I can feel sorry for a lot but I must feel joy for that…and I choose joy as often as I can discipline myself to do so even in the face of great sadness and loss.

Today we will observe the life Warrior lived. The wonderful fifty four years his intensity graced this planet. I would ask you warriors to make a choice today in whatever area of your life you deem fitting to move towards happiness even from the depths of any personal despair. Stop staring at what cannot be yours and move toward what rightfully can be. I promise you all I am doing the same work myself. I am moving forward on the next path that lies before me with the warmth of the lessons my husband taught me resting companionably on my back.

“When one door of happiness closes, another one opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us…”.

I believe my husband fulfilled his destiny and now so must we.. I believe our lives have a certain span of time given and we mustn’t waste a precious moment in a bitter garden lamenting what we cannot have. I believe in tearing ourselves away from even our most heartfelt dreams when they are no longer ours to dream.. I believe in looking for the open door… ALWAYS!

WWE RAW Tops 4 Million Viewers, Twitter Activity Spikes

Here’s the hourly breakdown:

  • Hour 1: 4.095 million viewers
  • Hour 2: 4.249 million viewers
  • Hour 3: 3.997 million viewers

Jim Ross Blog: RAW Thoughts, Lesnar/Heyman Return, Owens Attacking MGK

12

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog on Tuesday with thoughts and opinions of Monday’s edition of WWE RAW. Below are some of the highlights.

On Monday’s RAW: “This Raw had a good beginning, a viable middle and a great close with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman returning to confront WWE World Champion Seth Rollins. To ever do a ‘great’ three hour TV Wrestling show is going to be challenging but this show definitely had its moments and took a nice step toward the next WWE PPV which is, luckily, four weeks away.”

On Kevin Owens attacking Machine Gun Kelly: “Kevin Owens had a memorable night but his power bombing rapper Machine Gun Kelly seemed to be enjoyed and not jeered by the live audience. Nonetheless, @FightOwensFight is making positive strides to become WWE’s top villain. I hope that he succeeds. He’s a throwback in many ways and I enjoy him not trying to be a ‘cool villain.'”

On Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman returning on RAW: “As mentioned the return of @HeymanHustle and Lesnar was well timed although I’m somewhat surprised but not disappointed that it will be Lesnar vs. Rollins at Battleground PPV in St Louis in approximately one month and not at Summer Slam although that’s still a possibility. Lesnar is a legit monster and has more of the ‘IT” factor than any one in WWE for my money. I look forward to some verbal jousting from Heyman and Rollins in the coming weeks while Lesnar stays at home and eats red meat.”
