  • Ted DiBiase Speaks On Bray Wyatt’s Character, Undertaker’s Streak & More

    6

The following are highlights of a new Chad Dukes Wrestling Show interview with “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase:

On Bray Wyatt and different characters: “I think [Mike Rotunda aka IRS] son, this Bray Wyatt is one of the best new characters that they’ve had in a long time. I really, really like it… I went back to work for them for a short time back in ’06, and they said, “Watch the shows tell me what you think,” and I said, ‘Everybody’s the same.’ You know, back then I said, ‘Everybody’s bald head, tattooed, trying to be Stone Cold Steve Austin.’When I was there it was a variety of characters. You had the guy with the snake, you had the rich Snidely Whiplash- me, and then you had a hillbilly, you had a sumo wrestler, you had all these characters. To now, nobody wears a ring jacket anymore, everybody looks the same. So I think they’re starting to get back to that and that’s good.”

On the Undertaker’s Streak: “My personal feeling is that wasn’t supposed to happen. I don’t know for sure, I hadn’t spoken to anybody that night, I haven’t spoken to anybody since but, I was told, somebody said that when ‘Taker when he got back through the curtain, he collapsed. And I think that whatever the move was, I think he got knocked out and he didn’t kick out because he was out. As I was watching it I saw the expression on [Paul Heyman]‘s face I thought, ‘Something ain’t right.’ So I really think that wasn’t supposed to happen… If I were going to do it, the Streak was such a thing, a big deal with fans, I would either never beat him at WrestleMania or if I did beat him I would do it with somebody you’re really gonna give a big push… Obviously, Brock’s great, but he didn’t need it.”

  • Jim Ross Blog: Russo On Ross Report, RAW Thoughts, More On TNA, Sting & More

    6

The following are highlights from the latest Jim Ross blog:

On Sting on The Ross Report: “The much anticipated Sting interview/conversation on the Ross Report podcast drops tonight at 9 pm eastern time on podcastone.com and perhaps just a little later on iTunes. It’s a two parter and a superb conversation with Sting about his career and his future. I hope that you will download it for free and do as many have done and that is subscribe to the podcast for free at iTunes. Many of you will hear and experience a side of Sting that you have never had the opportunity to do.”

On Vince Russo on The Ross Report: “Also, tonight I’m chatting with Vince Russo for a future Ross Report podcast in which should be an interesting conversation especially in light that Russo is being blamed for killing two, wrestling companies and even implicated in “murdering Owen Hart.” That’s some heavy stuff.”

On Monday’s RAW: “The show had some excellent moments without question and helped promote Summer Slam significantly. However, after a great start to the show that included the Heyman-Cena-Cesaro dealings the lack of in ring, bell to bell time was noticeable. It felt that the wrestling became an after thought after the hot start.”

On TNA: “If TNA goes to another cable TV outlet IF they leave @SpikeTV, I’d seriously consider changing the name of the company and attempting to hit the reset button and get a fresh start. I’m still not convinced that Spike will rid themselves of TNA but instead re-up the brand for less money. Sources say that TNA is telling their talents that there are multiple suitors for their brand as it relates to finding another cable TV home. I hope that’s accurate for their sake.”

“Speaking of Impact, I’m told that their TV show Thursday night is one of their better in ring shows in a good while.”

  • Sheamus To Play Darth Vader In The New Star Wars Movies?

    64

The Irish Mirror newspaper ran an article today speculating that WWE Superstar Sheamus will be playing Darth Vader in the new “Star Wars: Episode VII” movie that is currently in production.

Sheamus, who is currently in Ireland, where scenes for the movie are being shot, has appeared as Darth Vader for various Star Wars promotional tours in the past.

Sheamus is not currently listed as a cast member at IMDB.com, however, there’s also nobody listed as playing the Darth Vader character.

In response to the Irish Mirror report, Sheamus tweeted:

Curt Hawkins Calls WWE “Cold Blooded”

    29

Yesterday, WWE.com published an interview with Curtis Axel, who spoke about helping The Rock and Brock Lesnar get back into ring shape prior to their WWE returns in recent years.

The article failed to mention that former WWE Superstar Curt Hawkins was the one who primarily helped The Rock prepare for his WWE return match against John Cena at WrestleMania 28.

Curt Hawkins caught wind of the article and responded on Twitter:

He also re-tweeted a photo of The Rock giving him a Rock Bottom, joking that “Curtis Axel’s hair looks fantastic” – since it was actually him in the picture:

    53

WWE taped this week’s episode of SmackDown on Tuesday night from Corpus Christi, Texas.

    – Jack Swagger defeated Cesaro with the Patriot Lock. Rusev and Lana come out after the match and challenged Jack Swagger to a match at SummerSlam. Zeb accepts on Swagger’s behalf.

    – Kane and Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose in a handicap match is announced for later.

    – R-Truth defeated Bo Dallas by disqualification when Bo wouldn’t break a referee’s 5-count. After the match, Dallas beat Truth down and cut a promo.

    – AJ Lee defeated Rosa Mendes by submission in a short match. Afterwards, Paige attacked AJ at the top of the ramp and laid her out. Officials check on AJ while Paige skips away.

    – Kane and Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose by disqualification when Ambrose hit Kane with a steel chair. Rollins ran away and Ambrose continued to attack Kane with the chair.

    – Footage is shown of AJ Lee being taken away on a stretcher with a neck brace on.

    – Diego (with Summer Rae and Layla) defeats Fandango after the Divas distracted Fandango.

    – Alberto Del Rio defeated Dolph Ziggler by submission with his cross armbreaker. The Miz was on commentary and interrupted the match by standing on the commentary by mocking/distracting Ziggler, allowing Del Rio to get the win.

    – Chris Jericho defeated Erick Rowan with the Codebreaker. The stipulation was that if Jericho won, Rowan was banned from ringside for Jericho’s match against Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam. After the match, Bray Wyatt attacked Chris Jericho.

    WWE Main Event Results (7/29)

    2

Main Event opens up with Dean Ambrose in the ring. He says the Authority booked him to do promotional work so he couldn’t appear on RAW to confront Seth Rollins. He orders Rollins to come out and face him man to man. Rollins doesn’t come up, but Alberto Del Rio does. He talks some trash to Ambrose, attacks him and runs away.

    – WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos defeated RybAxel in a very good tag team match. Both teams got in a lot of offence until RybAxel took control and dominated for a few minutes. The finish came when Jimmy Uso got a hot tag, gave Curtis Axel a supper kick and tagged in Jey, who hit a top rope splash on Axel and got hte pin.

    – A replay was shown recapping Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella’s segment from RAW, with Brie getting her job back and a match against Stephanie at SummerSlam in exchange for dropping her charges against Stephanie.

    – Slater Gator (Heath Slater and Titus O’Neil) defeated the team of Tyson Kidd and Zack Ryder . The finish came when Tyson Kidd went to the top rope, but Slater also went up and gave him a powerslam off the top and got the 3-count.

    – A recap is shown of Randy Orton’s beat-down of Roman Reigns from RAW.

    – Randy Orton will be appearing on Friday’s SmackDown to deliver the “Viper’s Message.”

    – A video package airs hyping John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at Summerslam, “The Biggest Fight Of The Summer.”

    – Dean Ambrose defeated Alberto Del Rio by disqualification after Seth Rollins ran down and attacked Ambrose. Del Rio is stitched up from Monday’s RAW and Ambrose’s shoulder was taped up, which Del Rio took advantage of throughout the match. After the finish, Ambrose hit Dirty Deets on Del Rio and had a staredown with Rollins, who was by the stage.

Batista Interview: Fans Turning On Him, Undertaker’s Streak, The Shield

    65

Part-time WWE Superstar Batista spoke to the The Huffington Post ‘s UK site this week to promote his new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. He spoke about a number of topics, including the funniest rib ever played on him, Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling promotion, NXT and much more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

If The Anti-Batista Chants Were Really Just Disgruntled Daniel Bryan Fans:

“You could have fooled the hell out of me! They channelled their rage right in my direction. I can’t put my finger on it, it was crazy. I don’t get wrestling now. I’ve kind of completely taken my finger off the pulse. It’s a different audience which I don’t understand. It’s strange though, it’s really just the TV audience because when we get into the live events it’s a completely different audience and they come just to watch the show. It’s weird, the TV crowd seems like they come to be the show rather than to watch and interact with the show. It’s like they want to steal the show, so I’m just totally confused.”

The Undertaker’s Streak Ending at WrestleMania:

“It sucked! Honestly, I thought it sucked. I haven’t really talked much about it but I think it was a bad decision, a horrible decision. I don’t have any say in the matter but to me, watching as a fan, it made me sick. Brock Lesnar beating him didn’t seem to work and it really wasn’t good that Brock left the day after. I just don’t see how that made sense at all. I don’t think anyone wanted to see the streak broken and it just didn’t make sense to me.”

The Shield Breaking Up & Which Member Has The Most Potential:

“It’s similar to my take on the Undertaker. I guess there comes a point where you have to send them their separate ways but – and it’s just my opinion – I don’t think they were ready. I don’t think they’re ready to fly solo. I realise where they’re going and that WWE will push Roman Reigns straight to the top. However for me, Dean Ambrose is by far the most talented in that group and I think eventually if they just give him the spotlight then he’s going to shine. As soon as he touches a mic everyone else can just sit down as he’s magic on it. So It remains to be seen, I think they’re all talented but to me Dean was the star of that group. I think Roman looks like the star of that group but I don’t think he’s nearly as talented as Dean.”

Curtis Axel Talks About Helping The Rock & Brock Lesnar Get Back Into Ring Shape

    16

Curtis Axel spoke to WWE.com this week about his experience training with The Rock and Brock Lesnar prior to their respective WWE returns. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Why WWE Picked Him To Work With The Rock:

“I think that I gained some trust within the WWE organization, and they picked me because they had faith in me being safe, not injuring him and really making him step up his game to get his wind ready, and his body back in shape for all the strenuous activity he was about to endure at WrestleMania. So I think they just had trust in me, and I think that’s what it boiled down to. Plus, we both come from a pedigree. Me and Rock have always had that bond, just because of the generational thing. So I think that had something to do with it. He trusted me, and WWE trusted me, so that’s how all that came about.”

What He Learned From The Rock:

“Just how to gauge crowd reactions, after you do something just to live in that moment and have the people eat it up. It’s just timing, stuff that a lot of people watching at home don’t realize. The facial expressions, when to take your time with things. Don’t rush things. Just little, tiny things that you don’t think about when you’re starting out. I’m still improving in that aspect, so I watched The Rock and I listened to The Rock when I was there. Just those little details, the timing and getting the crowd’s reaction and stuff like that. It really helped.”

What It Was Like Training With Brock Lesnar:

“Nonstop. I mean, we would wrestle a half-hour without a break, just going back and forth and basically doing a whole match. There was a moment, and he might get mad at me for saying this, but there was a moment where we stopped for a second and he said to me, “I’m going to beat your ass all the way to the corner, and then I’m going to take a step back. And when I come back to you, I want you to beat my ass all the way back to the other corner. And if it’s not up to my standards, if it’s not sufficient enough and I don’t think you’re aggressive, you know what’s going to happen to you.”

Jesse Ventura Awarded $1.8 Million In Defamation Lawsuit

    34

A jury awarded WWE Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura $1.8 million on Tuesday in his lawsuit against the estate of “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle.

Ventura sued Kyle, who was tragically killed last year, for a story he wrote in his best-selling book, claiming he punched out Ventura in a California bar back in 2006. Ventura had allegedly made and speaking out against the United States military and saying the Navy SEALs “deserve to lose a few.”

Ventura testified that Kyle fabricated the story about punching him out. In testimony taped before his death, Kyle once again claimed the story was factual.

After several days of deliberations, attorneys for both sides agreed that the verdict did not need to be unanimous and would allow a verdict if only eight of 10 jurors agreed. After siding with Ventura, the jury was told to award damages to Ventura for any harm to his reputation, humiliation and embarrassment.

Jurors found that Ventura suffered an economic loss as a direct result of Kyle’s statements.

A feature film based on “American Sniper” is currently being developed, with actor Bradley Cooper playing the starring role.

The Rock Posts Intense “Hercules” Scene (Video), Sheamus On “Royal Pains”

    5

    – Sheamus will be a guest star on this coming Tuesday night’s edition of “Royal Pains” on the USA Network. Below is a preview of the show.

    – The Rock recently posted the above Hercules movie clip on his official Instagram account:

“I asked the prop department to lock me in with real steel chains that I couldn’t break, so the performance would be real. When HERCULES finally accepts his fate of being the son of Zeus, it’s THE epic moment of the mythology – and our movie. We shot this scene 8 times – I blacked out every time. Down to my knees. Well worth the fun pain.. this moment is iconic. Im excited for you to see it… #HercDontLikeBlackingOut #HappilyDoItAgain #HERCULESMovie”

  • WWE Battleground 2014 Preview and Predictions

    18

The top superstars in the WWE will compete at this Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view. Headlining the event is a fatal four-way matchup for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

In all, there are eight matches scheduled for the event, and nearly all of the company’s titles will be up for grabs. Here are my predictions for Sunday’s Battleground.

    Cameron vs. Naomi (Pre-Show Match)

    20140714_Battleground-kickoff_namoicam_LIGHT_C-home

These two have been at each other’s throats since the breakup of the Funkadactyls. Cameron has become increasingly problematic for Naomi, as she continues to rack up wins and have success in the Divas division. I think Naomi will finally put the Funkadactyls by hitting the Rear View for the win.

    Winner: Naomi by pinfall

    Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal

    20140715_Battleground_IntercontinentalUpdate_LIGHT_HP_2

This should be one of the most exciting matches of the night, as a number of viable contenders will be battling to become the new Intercontinental Champion. Bad News Barrett will also be on hand to present the title to the new champ.

It would appear that only a few of the entrants have a legitimate chance at winning the title, including Sheamus, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler and Bo Dallas. I think it comes down to Dallas and Cesaro at the end, with Cesaro ultimately coming out on top. An attack or provocation by Barrett could also turn Cesaro face once again and start a feud, as it appears his days as a Heyman guy are nearly over.

    Winner: Cesaro

The Usos (Tag Team Champions) vs. The Wyatt Family (2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match)

    20140714_Battleground_UsosWyatts_LIGHT_HOMEPAGE

These two teams have been battling one another for what seems like forever at this point. I think this is the point where the Wyatt Family finally breaks through and strikes gold. The teams will split the first two falls before the Wyatt Family becomes the new Tag Team Champions after Luke Harper hits a clothesline to win the third fall.

    Winner: Wyatt Family by pinfall

AJ Lee (Divas Champion) vs. Paige

    20140715_Battleground_AjPaige_LIGHT_HP

I’m not really sure what the plan is with this one. It appeared that they were trying hard for a double turn on the night of AJ Lee’s return, but the crowd wasn’t really having it. The two have now developed into so-called “frenemies.”

This should be a close matchup that will hopefully receive at least five to ten minutes. AJ Lee will struggle throughout, but will ultimately come out on top after locking in the Black Widow and forcing Paige to tap out. Don’t be surprised if Paige attacks AJ after the match in an attempt to turn her heel.

    Winner: AJ Lee by submission

Chris Jericho Talks About Bray Wyatt’s Character, Unique Theme Song & More

    15

The Miami Herald has published part two of their two-part interview with Chris Jericho. During the interview, Jericho offered the following comments about his Battleground opponent, Bray Wyatt:

“It’s different. It’s something nobody’s ever seen before. It’s a character that he’s really dropped into. People believe it’s real, and when people believe it’s real, they get into it. Same thing as heel Jericho from 2008 and 2009. People wanted to fight me on the streets for real. I was getting in fights with fans. People believed this character was the biggest %$#^& on earth, because that’s the way I played it.”

“It’s like an Academy Award winning actor. When he wins an award, there’s a reason for that, because you believed the character. That’s what Bray’s doing. He dropped into it. He’s embraced it. He created it. It’s real. So it’s something the people haven’t seen before, and that’s why it’s getting over as good as it is.”

“[The music] really fits the character. It’s a swampy type, groovy, New Orleans Cajun type vibe. It’s a little bit creepy, and that’s basically what the Wyatts are as well. It’s very important to have a good ring song that really matches your character to help you get into that character, before you go on stage. That’s very, very important.”

Natalya Speaks On Sting In WWE, Drunk-Dialing Stephanie McMahon & More

    14

The following are highlights of a new CBS Baltimore interview with Natalya:

On Sting in WWE: “I think it’s cool. When we saw the debut of the new video game, that Sting is part of (WWE 2K15), it was awesome. It was like, ‘oh my gosh.’ Nobody ever thought you’d see Sting in WWE and now you see him. I can say this from experience, especially growing up around WWE my entire life, I’m one of those people that think Sting could possibly have another match in WWE.”

On drunk dialing Stephanie McMahon: “Nobody, including Steph, ever expected something like [that] to happen. It’s something now that we laugh about. The lesson learned is don’t ever go into ‘Brie Mode!'”

On Total Divas season 3: “We have a new cast member, Rosa Mendes. And then we have, obviously, Summer Rae, who was a new cast member from last season. Summer and I never really repaired our relationship from the past. It’s something of course I want to work on. We’ve got some issue there and we go back and revisit that.”

  • Goldberg Speaks On His Past Fight With Chris Jericho, A Possible WWE Return

    57

The following are highlights of a new Phoenix New Times interview with Bill Goldberg:

Getting advice from Jim Ross before launching his podcast: “Well, yeah. Absolutely. I’ve been taking Jim’s advice for the past 30 years. He and I go way back to my Oklahoma days. So why reinvent the wheel and why not talk to people who have tread before you? And he obviously knows what he’s doing. And I’m not a radio personality by any stretch, but if you stop learning, you die, and I’m firmly a believer in that. So I’ll take advice from everybody, doesn’t mean that I’m actually going to act on it. But you gotta admit, when you’re not an expert at something and are able to hear advice from different people and discern between the good advice and bad advice, you do that and go from there.”

His podcast being different from others: “Yeah. At the end of the day, man, the reason I did the podcast is because I went through my Rolodex and thought, “There has to be a way to take advantage of all the cool people that I know.” So, in the beginning, by not [featuring] wrestlers, I wouldn’t be able to gain that much traction as the other guys, but I’m not at all like the other guys. I’m different.

I’m not a wrestler. I am a football player who looked at wrestling as a business. I do not live it, I do not breathe it, I do not eat it and shit it like everybody else does. And I truly believe that there’s a lot more interesting content out there that I’m going to try turning these wrestling fans on to that’s cool. I’ve been leading a pretty cool life and have some really cool friends.”

Would he have Chris Jericho on as a guest? “Absolutely. Why not? We’ll do a co-promoted podcast where it should be aired on both simultaneously. Yeah. No big deal. I’m 47 years old, man, I don’t hold grudges with people. If he’s got a problem with me, say it to my face. Other than that, shut up, you know?”

Jericho tweeting Goldberg is his “bro” and that anyone “trying to stir the shit can piss off”: “Yeah, that’s how I feel too, man. And I very much appreciate him saying that. Until I talk to him face-to-face, which I haven’t done since the B.S. went down years ago, which…it was ridiculous. It was the furthest thing from a fight that I think I’ve ever seen. But he knows the truth and I know the truth, and the reality is we’re grown men, dude, we’ve got bigger and better things to do than [dwell] on a ridiculous little subject that people seem to bring up every couple minutes.”

Is he a tough guy or a softie at public appearances and Scott Hall: “Well, they know that I’m the antithesis outside of the ring of the character that I am inside, except for the fact that, you know, you piss me off or do something that’s wrong then I’m going to show that other side of Goldberg. I mean, the reality is, I’m multi-dimensional in the person that I can become at the snap of a finger. But the most important aspect of my personality is the one that’s caring and the one that tries to give back to people who have put me in a position that I’m already in.

The wrestling convention or the signings are not the place to show that I can punch somebody in the face. It’s a place where the people can look at you as an idol, this big strong guy, but yet, at the same time, have a nice conversation with you, so you smile, put your arm around them and make them feel welcome. That’s what you do at these autograph sessions. But, if Scott Hall mouths off to me, then they’ll see the other side.

This would be a rematch that he’d never book, believe it. He’d never sign it, because this one would be done in the street or at my gym, which I’d rather take it there, you know?”

A possible WWE return: “I’ve expressed my desire…well, not my desire, my willingness to maybe consider it again, but I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 50,000 times, once they learn how to do business, then I’d consider it.

I’d love to do it too, man. I mean, like I said, I’ve said it before, I think the WWE and I will never see eye to eye, so I don’t think [it] will be very logical, and I think the chances of seeing me elsewhere are between zero and zero, unless it’s Japan or unless somebody comes out to be a competitor to [WWE’s owner Vince McMahon], because I’m not just gonna do it to do it.”

    What’s next for him:
“I’ve got a movie [Minkow] coming up in September [and] just got off a conference call with a new TV show. I’m pretty damn busy man. I’m as busy as I want to be. And at this time in my life, at 47 years old, I just want to be able to make my own decisions and live by it. So as long I’m still able to do that, then I’m good, man.

I don’t need to vindicate anything because of my last match against Brock Lesnar, by no stretch of the imagination. Because I haven’t seen anybody press [slam] him over their head yet. When that’s a normal occasion, then I won’t feel as though I accomplished very much. But I haven’t seen anyone jackhammer The Giant [a.k.a. WWE’s The Big Show] yet. So, if I’m the “flash in the pan,” as a couple people have said I was, so be it. But this “flash in the pan” put asses in seats, money in a lot of people’s pockets, and I was able to jackhammer The Giant at will.”
