Daniels Talks More About GFW, Kazarian/TNA, Vince Russo Rumors & More

1

The following are highlights of a new v2 Wrestling Podcast interview with Christopher Daniels:

On whether Frankie Kazarian will be departing TNA soon: “I can’t really confirm 100% but I can tell you that the odds are very good that rather soon the both of us will be doing what we want to do in the world of professional wrestling.”

On why he was released by TNA: “I’m not sure what their reasoning was. It wasn’t money, we never even got to (talking about) money. Part of me takes it personally. Anybody that is in some sort of entertainment field where they are their own product, when you’re told “No, we don’t want you”, of course a little bit of you takes it personally.”

On rumours that Vince Russo is back in the TNA fold: “I never saw Vince, and the creative team never said one way or the other. They’re denying it now, but when I was backstage, Frankie and I never saw any hint that Vince was there.”

On the likelihood of working with Jeff Jarrett’s new promotion: “I’m certainly hoping to work with Jeff Jarrett, I think he’s a great mind. I think that if someone could take something and make it out of nothing, I think it’s Jeff Jarrett.”

On breaking kayfabe: “I definitely respect the business enough to try and protect it as much as possible. When I came up, kayfabe was solid, but now I’ve seen the change in the mentality. The curtain has been pulled back and it’s hard to unring that bell now the word is out. It’s one thing for everybody to be in on the gag, but you don’t want to make people aware of it while they’re watching the product. Like, people know there’s a gimmick to magic, but they never really know what the gimmick is. You want them guessing what they’re watching.”

  • TNA’s Future With Spike TV, Update On Chris Sabin’s Departure & More

    10

    – Katie Ryjavec, who had been in charge of TNA’s live event marketing and media buys, recently gave notice that she’s leaving. She has been with the company since 2011.

    – To update the story of Chris Sabin leaving TNA, he reportedly turned down an offer from TNA that is believed to be for considerably less money than he had previously been making.

    – There continues to be a lot of concern in TNA about the company’s future with Spike TV. There are a lot of people that believe the upcoming Impact tapings from New York City will be “make or break” for the company. United Talent Agency, which represents TNA in their TV negotiations, will be shopping Impact Wrestling around to other networks before deciding on staying with Spike TV – if that’s even an option at this point.

Batista Signs On To Appear In ‘Kickboxer’ Remake With Georges St. Pierre

    7

WWE Superstar Batista and UFC legend Georges St. Pierre have signed on to appear in ‘Kickboxer’ – a remake of the 1989 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brian O’Shea’s The Exchange will begin shopping the film to foreign buyers later this week at the Cannes Film Market.

Producer Ted Field of Radar Pictures has been planning the remake for a year, already signing Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung to direct.

Stuntman and martial artist Alain Moussi has signed on to play the lead. Here’s the synopsis:

“Kickboxer tells the story of David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Venice, Calif., fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother’s protestations that the man is a crook. When Kurt travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died, and seeks his revenge.”

Brian O’Shea touted to the Hollywood Reporter:

“We have a visionary director, a strong Hollywood producer, great cast and an action-packed script based on a well known property. What more can you ask for?”

Kickboxer will executive produced by O’Shea, Mike Weber and Peter Meyer. Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi will also produce.

Possible Change To NXT’s Taping Schedule, Update On Mason Ryan’s Release

    12

    – There has been talk in WWE about taping NXT television every two weeks instead of every four weeks, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The upside of taping every other week is that the shows would be ‘fresher’ and crowds would not get burnt out by sitting through four weeks of tapings. The downside is that production costs would increase and the tapings do not bring in much revenue for WWE.

    – Mason Ryan’s recent release from WWE NXT surprised some people, because he was generally well-liked, had a very impressive look and was from the UK (Wales), which would have been a draw when the company tours overseas. That said, his ring work was not progressing fast enough and the company apparently decided it was better to free up space at developmental.

Vader Talks Compares McMahon & Bischoff, Talks WWE HOF, Triple H, Lesnar

    13

Wrestling legend Vader was recently interviewed by Wrestling101. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Undertaker: “Undertaker was just phenomenal and I would say he is the best big man in professional wrestling history, without a doubt.”

Brock Lesnar: “I think Brock Lesnar is just a beast, he’s an incredible athlete and he would be great at anything he turned his hand to, I would love to see Brock featured more than he is.”

Triple H: “Triple H is doing a fantastic job running the company now but I would love to see more of him performing in the ring as he is still a tremendous athlete.”

Rumors Of Him Entering The WWE Hall of Fame: “I heard rumblings about it a couple of years ago, but I’ve not heard anything for a while now. I would really like for that to happen, I think I?ve earned it. Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow, King Kong Bundy and myself would be considered super-heavyweights, and I would rank myself very high out of that group, and there is a time in my career in the early nineties where I considered myself to be the best big man.”

Comparing Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff: “Eric was put into a situation and I think from a wrestling standpoint he wasn’t really ready for it at that time. He became very educated and excellent at what he did but it was kind of like we had one guy running the wrestling part and then two weeks later we had another guy doing it and so on and so forth until Eric did it. I think Eric was way in over his head initially but he certainly figured it out with the help of Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan and there were times when it became a biased situation but he achieved some great things, he is one of the most successful promoters in the history of professional wrestling. What can I say about Vince, he’s a genius, he is the most successful wrestling promoter of all time and just works so hard. He was very approachable and he has done nothing but treat me like a gentleman.”

Seth Rollins Talks About WWE’s PG Product, Undertaker’s Streak Ending, Warrior’s Death

    13

WWE Superstar Seth Rollins was recently interviewed by AlternativeNation.net about a number of topics, including his most memorable concert experiences, the Ultimate Warrior’s death, WWE’s TV-PG product, Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, and the new generation of talent coming up through NXT. Here are some highlights of what Rollins said about:

WWE’s TV-PG Product: “I don’t think the PG rating has a whole lot to do with the style we bring in the ring. The company is now publically traded, and as you mentioned the programming is PG, but realistically a lot of the matches are still as hard hitting and fast paced and definitely more athletic than they’ve ever been. If you look at the talent roster now, you look at guys like Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, The Usos, and especially a lot of the guys coming up in NXT like Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, and myself. We’re just bringing a different element to the matches that I don’t think people are used to. So I don’t really think that the PG rating has much to do with the in ring content, as it does necessarily with the storyline content.”

Ultimate Warrior’s Death: “We got to Tuesday night when I first heard about the Warrior, I heard about it through Twitter because Triple H was the first one to get the news, and he went straight to Twitter and put it up there. That was the first I had heard of it, there’s really no words for that. For a guy who after all those years had come back, and was in the middle of a personal and professional redemption, to lose his life at really one of his highest points personally is strangely inspiring, and at the same time very sad. A lot of people talk about his promo from Monday and how prophetic it was, maybe it was almost too much like he knew what was coming. He was at a beautiful place, I know that from talking to him over the weekend. Just from people who were close to him, to see how happy he was. At the very least, he was in a very good place personally, my thoughts and sympathies go out to his family and his daughters and stuff like that. I think for him, it might have been okay for him, I think he might have been alright with the way things ended, and that’s always important.”

The Undertaker’s Streak Ending: “It was really just a roller coaster of a weekend, because on one hand it’s WrestleMania 30. It’s the biggest event in the history of our sport, something to be really excited and happy about. The unpredictability of The Undertaker’s streak being snapped for the first time in 22 years, that was literally one of those moments where you’ll remember where you were at and what you were doing. I was upstairs in the family room, we had just got done beating the dog crap out of Kane and the New Age Outlaws for like 2 minutes, so we were riding pretty high. I was up in the family box with my friends watching the rest of the show kind of reveling in my success, then I remember the 3 count after [Brock Lesnar’s] F5. I literally stopped and my jaw dropped, I couldn’t believe it, I thought for sure that was never going to happen. I thought that would never, I don’t know, talking about it now still seems surreal even though it’s been a little over a month. The sad part is, that is what it is, it’s part of the show.”

Jim Ross Talks About His Return To Broadcasting On 5/26

    0

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is returning to broadcasting on Monday night, May 26th – but it won’t be for WWE. JR announced over the weekend that he’ll be doing commentary on a boxing show airing on Fox Sports 1 and promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The show takes place from El Paso, Texas and will feature Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado vs. Texas’s Rocky Juarez for the WBC Silver Featherweight Title. He tweeted on Saturday:

In his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com published Sunday night, JR wrote:

“Very grateful to Fox Sports and Golden Boy Promotions for extending me the opportunity to jump back on some play by play for their Memorial Day night boxing from Ft. Bliss, Texas that will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1. My old pal Mauro Ranallo will ‘coach me up’ and I will be ready to rock the Monday night away.

I’ve been a lifelong boxing fan so this will be a big thrill for me to be able to stick my toe in new water. I hope that you will check it out and I will have more info on the special night in the next few days. My late father was a HUGE boxing fan and I know that he would be so proud of me which makes the whole process a win before I even fly to El Paso.”
