Bob Holly Says Dolph Ziggler Should Be WWE World Heavyweight Champion

8

Former WWE Superstar Bob Holly appeared on The Shoot radio show yesterday for nearly one hour to talk about a variety of topics. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Why Dolph Ziggler Should Be WWE World Heavyweight Champion:

“I love this guy. He is the best talent. He has everything it takes to be number one. They (WWE) sit there and their always preaching that you gotta have the heart, desire, & will. You gotta work your butt off and on and on and it’s like Sheamus was the world champion within six months. How did he deserve to be world champion? Don’t insult the fans intelligence by telling them it takes this this this and this to make it to the top when it doesn’t. It’s Hunter’s choice or whoever is at the round table. It’s their choice, but Dolph Ziggler does sells tickets. How many times does Dolph Ziggler have to step it up and say hey look at me? Every time he’s stepping in the ring he’s saying look at me look what i can do. That guy steals the show every single night at house shows, i will guarantee it.”

The WWE Hall of Fame:

“They try to make that Hall of Fame legitimate. But if you notice, to me it’s politically driven.  A dead giveaway is Hunter wanting all of his little buddies, his little circle first. He’s taken care of all them. But the thing is, how can you put Lita in the Hall of Fame? Not saying she doesn’t deserve to be there, but how can you put her in there before Chyna? Chyna is the first and only female Intercontinental champion and that’s what drives me nuts because their trying to make this a legitimate hall of fame and it’s obvious they pick and choose who they want in there. If this was pro football or basketball or anything else, Chyna would be in there.” The host then mentioned her not being selected is likely due to her Adult movie roles and publicized issues with drugs and alcohol to which Bob replied “You look at all the guys who had drug and alcohol problems and they get inducted, come on. She’s done porn so what, who cares. The thing is, she gave a lot to the business and she was a big deal. I’m not defending anybody as to what they choose outside of the wrestling world, but what she gave to the wrestling world was really big.”

Daniel Bryan:

“I’m glad he won the title. He’s another one who worked his tail off and he deserves it. I don’t care about his size. Some people do but it shouldn’t be that way. Wrestling isn’t real, so why should it matter? I think he deserves to be world champion, despite his ups and downs trying to get there. I’m sorry to hear his dad passed away. With the neck surgery though, he needs to stop doing the missile dropkick. Every time i saw him doing that i was like that has got to hurt his neck because it whiplashes your neck. That’s another one he needs to stop doing in addition to the headbutt. My advice to him is enjoy the ride. If they strip the title from him and he never gets to the point where he gets it back, he had it, he made it, enjoy the ride from here on out. He’s still making good money. His merchandise sales are through the roof. Just enjoy the ride, have a good career with WWE and don’t do those 2 moves.”

Other topics covered include Which of the two Bellas does he think has the better head on her shoulders, Why he thinks John Cena should “shut his trap” about younger guys stepping up, Does Bob think he deserves a spot in the hall of fame? Thoughts on Roman Reigns being the next big star, Bob’s twitter experiences and a whole lot more in this near hour long interview.

WWE Conference Call Recap: Addressing TV Deal, WWE Network & More

1

Here are highlights from today’s WWE conference call, hosted by Vince McMahon and George Barrios:

– WWE CEO Vince McMahon, who called in on his cellphone from London, opened the call by stating they hope to “give a great deal of clarity” regarding their business going forward. McMahon said he’s not sure if they gave too much or not enough information regarding the WWE Network and the company’s overall business outlook.

– McMahon said they were “disappointed” by the terms of their new TV deal with NBCUniversal. He said they did better with their international TV deals, saying the NBCU deal was a “good deal” but “not what we wanted” and “not what our research showed us” they could achieve.

– McMahon said WWE’s core business is “rock solid” and they are confident in their business model. They plans to “more clearly communicate” their outlook and plan to offer a better degree of transparency on the impact of changes to their new business model.

– WWE financial executive George Barrios spoke about WWE’s revised business model, which was detailed in last Friday’s press conference. He admitted that WWE mis-evaluated the value of their TV content in the United States. He added that WWE foresees a $10 million increase in TV Production costs going forward.

– Barrios said one of the keys to making the WWE Network a success is the expansion into foreign markets. “Ultimately, we believe the Network represents a sizable economic opportunity.” They need to make up for the loss in PPV revenue.

– Barrios laid out a 5-point plan to attract new WWE Network subscribers: Create new content, open up Network globally, expand distribution platforms, develop new features and execute a “high-impact” marketing campaigns.

Highlights from the Q&A session

– When asked about the WWE Network’s business structure, Barrios noted they are making a lot of estimates with revenue, expenses, operating profit, allocating costs, etc. Making up for PPV cannibalization is a big issue. WWE has $60-70 million of fixed WWE Network costs and $40 million of regular PPV production costs.

– Barrios said WWE is “still confident” in their ability to execute the Network business plan.

– Vince McMahon was asked if the WWE Network launch had a negative affect on their TV negotiations. He said that’s a “very fair question” McMahon and admitted that he believes that launching the WWE Network before the TV deal was finalized did in fact have a negative impact on the disappointing TV deal. However, they wanted to launch before WrestleMania XXX and they would have had to wait another full year before launching the Network to get the best start possible.

– Regarding the length of the TV deal, Barrios gave a very vague answer, saying their TV deals are “generally five years or fewer.”

– Barrios said WWE expects to maintain their current dividend rate as long as the WWE Network is successful.

– A question was asked about AT&T purchasing DirecTV. McMahon said they are “wide open” and “flexible” in talking to potential partners and WWE did not have an “our way or the highway” mentality.

– In response to financial analysts advising that WWE eliminate their management team or sell the company, Barrios said they feel “very comfortable” with the management team currently in place.

– When asked about the current number of WWE Network subscribers, Barrios said they will report that data quarterly and the next announcement will be made at WWE’s next earnings call.

– WWE was asked how they will adjust costs if the Network subscribers to not meet their projections. Barrios said they WWE’s expenses in 2013 were approximately $480 million, with 20-25% of that being variable costs tied to revenue generated. Overall, if the Network is not as successful as they hope, the company’s core business is still very strong and they can “re-engineer” their strategy.

– When asked if WWE’s demographics had a negative impact on the NBCU TV deal, Barrios said “they didn’t seem to have an impact.”

Mick Foley Talks About WWE’s Young Talent, His Comedy Show

1

WWE legend Mick Foley recently appeared on In Your Head Wrestling Radio, hosted by Jack E. Jones. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Stand-Up Comedy Act:

“It is a wrestling-centered story-telling show, but it’s accessible to non-fans as well. For wrestling fans, there’s no need to worry about me embarrassing myself with set-ups and punch lines, and for non-fans, they’ll have a much better time than they’re expecting. If they’re dragged against their will by a loved one, they will end up having a very good time.”

WWE’s Young Talent Getting Over:

“Oh yeah, I love the new talent. I think they’ve done a great job at the WWE. For all the flack they sometimes get for bringing in guys from the past to headline shows they’ve done this amazing job of making huge new stars from the developmental area. They come in and they really have faith and realize that building guys is a process that doesn’t happen overnight.”

The Segment On The 4/28 RAW With The Wyatt Family & The Children’s Choir:

“It was wonderful. I know to some people it was a little freaky, but that was the point. It was something I believe wrestling fans will remember; it will go down as a great segment. I’d never seen anything like it. It was so good that I wish I had done it when I was Mankind. I was a big believer in juxtaposing innocence and creepiness, and sometimes I even did it in song. Whereas I sang ‘Close To You’ by the Carpenters in creepy fashion, he sings ‘I’ve Got the Whole World in My Hands’. It’s really effective; it’s really a great character.”

Christopher Daniels Talks His TNA Departure, Eric Young As World Champion

1

The following are highlights of a new RCWR Show interview with former TNA star Christopher Daniels:

On his TNA departure: “Just disappoint really. I envisioned there be an opportunity for Bad Influence vs the Wolves to happen on television but I found out that really wasn’t in the plans. TNA made the decision of what they thought was best for their product. I don’t necessarily agree with it but in the end it’s their decision and they need to make the decision that they think are best for their business. Whether it’s for financial reasons, creative reasons or a mixture of the two. So disappointment? Yes but not frustration or bitterness. It’s happened before. For every company around has made decisions that have fans scratch their heads on but at the same time those guys have the long term picture in their heads and it may not be clear to the wrestling fans at this point of why they’re doing it but something will come in the future where they will understand and at the same time I’m not dwelling on that decision. I’m looking forward to working in different companies, and the many matchups available for myself and Frankie Kazarian right now in the independent scene. It’ll be interesting to see what we do in the next couple of months.”

On fans seeing TNA as an unrecognizable product with so many veterans gone: “In terms of my presence there you’ll see and feel in the next couple of months cause I won’t be there and you’ll be able to notice before Daniels and after Daniels in that respect. But for people that are saying they’re not going to recognize the talent roster, my retort to that is there’s still going to be guys like James Storm, Ken Anderson, Gunner, Robbie E and Jesse G, people like Gail Kim and the Beautiful People are still there. And then you’re getting this opportunity with guys like Sanada, like Brittney, like Tigre uno, Bram, even Magnus who is still somewhat new to the promotion or at least to the position that he’s in far as being one of the top guys. He’s still a young face and is making strides as a character and as a performer. I think that most wrestling fans will give wrestling an opportunity and it’s up to those people that I just named to give the wrestling fan base reasons to continue to tune in. I neglected to even mention Eric Young who’s their new World champion there. He’s been around for a while, he’s a recognizable face and he’s now the World champion. He’s already got another show in the works for Animal Planet, he’s a very high profile individual and probably a very good choice of World Champion at this point. Now it depends on building up that fan base and getting them use to the idea of Eric Young as champion and those names that I just mentioned to be the benchmark for the company.”

On Eric Young as World Heavyweight Champion: “I feel like he sort of got thrown in the deep end. There wasn’t really an opportunity for fans to get behind him, get behind his road as a no. 1 contender. It all happened so quickly. That’s no fault to Eric as it’s the decision the creative team made. Now it’s up to the creative team and the company as a whole to sort of get behind Eric. The creative team has to decide on how to present him as a strong champion and put all their effort behind him or do you go back to Magnus. Are they going to make Eric a transitional champion and put the title on someone else? These are all the questions that have to be answered in the next couple of months. I feel like if he’s given the chance to succeed on his own merit then I believe he can succeed. It’s just a matter of how decisions are made sometimes and like I said you don’t always understand them when their first made but hopefully people can take a step back and sort of look at the grand picture and hopefully things will turn out will for Impact and Eric Young overall.”

On the reason he was never World Heavyweight Champion: “Not my decision. Those decisions don’t come from us. Any wrestler that has ever been asked why you haven’t been World champion yet the answer is you’re asking the wrong people. When you have your interview with John Gaubrick, Dave Lagana or Matt you can ask them. I think every wrestler in the world has wanted to be World champion at some point and written a scenario where they could be World champion and I’m no exception. I’ve pitched ideas and thought to myself maybe I could do this or that or maybe this would be a good position for me, why they didn’t go that way? In the end it goes back to that broad picture. Creative teams usually have this broad idea and they have certain months and months in advance sort of laid out and their decision making…it’s not up to me to question as I just assume they are just doing what’s best for their business. I thought for a while I was hot enough to do something in that respect but they obviously had a different idea or at least they viewed me in a different light in terms of what I could bring to the table as a character, performer.”

Chris Sabin Discusses His TNA Departure, Return To The Independent Scene

0

The following are highlights of a new MLive interview with former TNA star Chris Sabin:

On getting back into the indies: “I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my life. It’s getting back to my roots since I started out in the independents. Professional wrestling is my passion. I’m trying to stay as busy as possible. I believe I can have a good match with anyone. It doesn’t matter if they were on television the last 20 years or just an independent wrestler coming up through the ranks.”

On how he changed mentally after getting injured in 2010 and 2011: “It was probably mentally and physically the toughest thing I’ve ever had to go through in my entire life. I was wrestling for almost 11 years straight up until that first injury then all of a sudden I was sitting at home not doing anything, not even being able to walk. I was pretty apprehensive for months about what I could do in the ring. I even did an interview not too long ago where I felt I couldn’t do all the high-flying stuff I could do before my injuries. I was almost embarrassed when I saw myself saying that, it shows a lack of believe in myself. If I put my mind too it, and put the work in, I know I can be the Chris Sabin I was before the injuries. I know I’m stronger for getting through this.”

Daniel Bryan’s WWE Return Could Take Longer Than Expected

21

There has been a lot of discussion behind-the-scenes in WWE regarding the two-to-three months that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan may be on the shelf due to his recent neck operation.

The general consensus appears to be that WWE looks at the two-to-three month window as a best-case scenario. In all actuality, it could be much longer before Bryan is able to physically return to the ring.

As previously reported, WWE has revealed that they will be making a “big announcement” regarding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Monday’s edition of RAW, which will be a taped show from London, England.

Backstage News On TNA’s Future At Universal Studios, Taping TV On The Road

1

As previously reported, TNA recently finished up a run of television tapings at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, the company’s last few for at least several months.

As things stand currently, TNA has no official dates scheduled at Universal Studios. The word going around is that the sound stage that TNA uses is booked through September, so they will be forced to tape Impact Wrestling on the road until at least October.

It goes without saying that taping on the road would be a costly move for TNA, as production fees would be much greater than those at home base.

  • CM PUNK CONFIRMS Wedding Plans With AJ LEE + NEW Video Of Him SINGING!!
  • Ken Shamrock Says Vince Pays Better Than Dana White, Talks Owen Hart, More

    9

The following are highlights of a new Submission Radio interview with former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock:

On mending his relationship with his brother Frank Shamrock: “My brother came out with that documentary Blood Brothers ‘Bound by Blood’ and so it was an opportunity for us to get together and really talk about things, and I was happy, I was happy the way it came out. It seemed like he was trying to make an effort trying to make things to make things right, and so I opened my arms. That’s all I ever wanted, was for him to make an honest effort to fix what he broke. I mean I didn’t break it, I didn’t do those things. He did. So I’m not saying I wasn’t at fault at all, because I was. I know I was, but I wasn’t the one who walked out and left, and I wasn’t the one who didn’t go to my Dads funeral, or wasn’t there when he was sick. I didn’t do those things. And so I embraced him when he did that, I was happy.”

On drugs in MMA: “I think that when people talk about banning the substances, its funny because I don’t think people really realized what they’re asking, or what they’re saying. If they take these things out of the sports, people are going to be backed up twenty years as far as competitiveness. What people used to see in colleges that are now like pro now and professional like the supermen; the level of play will be dropped significantly in fighting, in football and in everything that we’re used to seeing. The athleticism and the strength and the stuff these guys are doing will be dropped significantly and the entertainment value will drop with it, and I don’t really think people realize what they’re asking for. They’re asking for the value of the entertainment to drop significantly and we’re going to be ok with that, because considering what we’re used to seeing, it’s just not going to be the same. And I think people are saying ‘oh it’ll still be good, it’ll still be this’ I just don’t really believe they understand what it is that they’re really asking for and I believe personally that things were made to help people and their health and I believe there’s a safe level for people to take these kinds of things to help their body recover and be a safe athlete and be able to get in the ring and compete on a safe level and then be able to have their body’s recover enough for them to be normal throughout the week. Rather than having these guys afraid of getting caught, so they won’t go to a doctor, so they won’t get it legally, they go on the black market, they get it because they can’t let anybody know they got it cause then they can lose the ability to fight or their pro card or whatever it is that they’re doing. They’ll get caught, the media will find out, they’ll get banned, they’ll get fined, all these things happen. So they’ll go to the black market and get it and that’s where the problem is, is that they’re getting stuff (with which) they don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t have doctors for their care to help them do it the proper way so that they’re not putting their health at risk. So that’s the issue right there. I think that If they could somehow find a safe level, make these guys all make sure they got their own doctors to put ’em on it, if they’re gonna go on it to have their own doctors put ’em on it and make sure that the doctors are giving physicals every month, once a month, keeping them at a safe level, I think that’s how you fix the problem.”

“It’s crazy to think people go ‘oh we’re gonna stop it now, now that it’s been going on for fifty years, we’re just gonna completely ban it now’, because I promise you this and I bet you people who understand how many people are using it in sports, they know how BADLY the athletic level will drop it. It’ll be so bad that people won’t want to turn on the TV anymore because there not going to be able to see what there used to seeing.”

On who pays better between Vince McMahon and Dana White: “I don’t know what other people say, but for me it’s definitely Vince (McMahon). I felt like he did me right, even though he may, I don’t know what the issues are with me and him now cause no one will talk to me or say anything, but for me personally I thought he treated me very fairly, he paid me well and I thought he gave me a great opportunity to be able to keep competing in the WWF; Of course I had to do my job, I had to do what they needed me to do, otherwise he wouldn’t give me the time of day. I understand that, I understood that. But when I did do what I was supposed to do he payed me what I deserved.”

On Owen Hart’s tragedy: “We were standing backstage and I was in the gorilla station and I watched it happen. And for the longest time we stood there and just stared at the monitor waiting for some gimmick to pop up, or the match to start, or for him to pop up and then when he was wheeled back in the gurney, still we were waiting for him to get up. I mean, we just didn’t believe that it was real you know, because you know all the gimmicks and stuff that go on there and you’re never told what’s happening and they’ll play all the way out till the next week. And so for the longest time, I think the fans were the same way, was that no one truly believed or understood what was happening at that moment and how real it was and for us, I mean even thought there was a meeting about whether we would go on and do the show, (whether) we were going to keep doing it, out of his honour we were going to do it, at the back of everybody’s mind we were all thinking we were getting worked, like this was a work, someone was working us. And so no one really grasped that until probably after a few weeks afterwards where it set in, in the funeral and in the news and it really set in that it was real. But can could you imagine that, not really knowing something like that?”

On if he considers himself retired: “Oh no I’ll never retire. I’ll never fight again but I’ll never retire”

Check out the complete interview above.
