Jim Ross Blog: Daniel Bryan Neck Surgery, Shield-Evolution, Cena-Wyatt

13

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Daniel Bryan Needing Neck Surgery: “Sad news to hear that Daniel Bryan has to undergo neck surgery this Thursday. As in most surgeries, no one will know the exact severity or the time the WWE World Champion will be away from the ring until the surgery is completed. All other info in this area is merely speculation at this time even though the word on the street is that the injury isn’t as serious as Austin, Edge, etc. My only advice to Bryan is to not rush back and to take no chances with a neck injury no matter how ‘good’ one may think that they feel.”

The Shield vs. Evolution: “The WWE has one, hot storyline going for them right now and that’s the Shield vs Evolution. This attraction will have to carry the Payback event coming to Chicago the day after I will be at the House of Blues there for our RINGSIDE show. One reason that this issue is working is that there are clearly defined roles in play, the heroes (Shield) vs. the villains (Evolution). 16 Shades of Gray this is not. Having six ‘star’ talents booked in one match on PPV at this place in time demonstrates the lack of depth currently within WWE and actually across the board in the business these days. The upside is that other talents will be, out of necessity, put in positions whereby they can turn heads if they approach those bookings with a game changing passion.

Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena: “Apparently Bray Wyatt will face John Cena in a Last Man Standing match which used to be called a Texas Death Match and is also often referred to as a No Holds Barred match at Payback. Cena accepting the match is a formality as when was the last time a hero turned down a challenge from their current, arch rival? The issue here is that Bray Wyatt has a cult following that’s developing and the broadcasters seem to have a challenging time describing Wyatt. He’s a controversial, unique performer who is getting more and more fans to “follow him” according to what I heard on TV Monday night which makes Wyatt….you guessed it….a fan favorite. Hmm. Nonetheless Wyatt is a compelling character, a growing star and his physical encounters with Cena have been enjoyable but I find myself as a fan not truly wanting either to lose.”

“There’s no logical reason why Bray Wyatt should not beat John Cena at Payback.  One other point on Bray Wyatt…to make him huge as a fan favorite, simply have Harper and Rowan turn on him down the road. Cha Ching. Notice that I said down the road.”

As always, we encourage you to check out Jim Ross’ amazing line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com.

WWE RAW Results – May 12, 2014

The Shield & Evolution Battle In The Back

This week’s RAW opens up with highlights of the U.S. title battle royal from last week’s RAW. Then we see Triple H revealing The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family main event from last week’s RAW. After that, clips from that match airs, complete with the run-in and beat down at the end by Evolution.

After the video package, we shoot live into the arena where Michael Cole welcomes us to this week’s show and we see The Shield standing in the ring. Dean Ambrose starts things off verbally, talking about how we saw something last week that we won’t see again, all three members of The Shield getting the crap kicked out of them last week. Ambrose says they want Evolution.

Seth Rollins is next on the mic. He says they aren’t running from Evolution — they are running to Evolution. If they have half the guts they should, they will accept their challenge for a rematch. He says when they show up here tonight, The Shield is going to run them down. He says they don’t take anything away from Evolution, but that’s all in the past. They “were” really good, not anymore. He says they can’t evolve into what it takes to beat The Shield.

Rollins asks Roman Reigns, “are you alright big man?” He asks him if he’s got anything to say. Reigns stares directly into the camera and talks about how they ambushed and beat him up, but he asks, “is that all you got?” He says if it is, he realizes that it’s not a big deal. He says The Shield will teach them justice, and he personally will teach you to “believe in ME.” He throws the mic down.

We see on the titan tron a limo pulling up. The fans try and break out into a “hounds of justice” chant, but it doesn’t really spread out that much. The Shield runs towards the back. Then, we see Evolution standing backstage with Triple H signing something on a clipboard. Out of nowhere, The Shield enters the picture and all three members start taking it to all three members of Evolution. Various officials enter the scene and start breaking things up.

Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Swagger (with Zeb Colter)

After The Shield-Evolution segment, the announce team of Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and JBL formally welcome us to this week’s edition of WWE RAW. After that, Rob Van Dam’s music hits and “Mr. Monday Night” makes his way to the ring. As he makes his ring entrance, Cole informs us that RVD will be in action next against “The Real American” Jack Swagger. We head to our first commercial break of the evening.

When we return from commercial, Zeb Colter is in mid-sentence. He’s saying a bunch of heel stuff, trying to get the crowd to “boo” he and Swagger. Swagger, by the way, is holding Colter’s “Deportation List” on a sign. Colter reveals that his latest addition to the list is Adam Rose. He trashes Rose a bit and then warns him to keep his distance. Finally, he concludes with his “we the people” stuff.

The bell rings, but before anything can happen, some music starts playing. Out comes “The Exotic Express” members, or the “Rosebuds,” whatever we’re calling them this week. Adam Rose’s theme music kicks in and out he comes dancing with his entourage.

Swagger is distracted by Adam Rose and his crew. Out of nowhere, Van Dam blasts Swagger with a big kick. He leaps up to the top-rope in RVD fashion and blasts Swagger with his Five-Star Frogsplash finisher. 1-2-3. Van Dam wins. After the pin and the victory, Adam Rose’s theme plays and Van Dam walks up the ramp with Rose and his party animals as Rose’s music plays.

Winner: Rob Van Dam

Paige vs. Alicia Fox

The announce team promotes the new WWE Divas Champion — Paige — quite a bit, including a video package, before we head to commercial. With that said, we head to another break.

When we return from commercial, Paige makes her way to the ring as the announce team promotes the upcoming WWE European tour and RAW next week in London. Already in the ring is Paige’s opponent for tonight, Alicia Fox. Fox gets on the mic and says Paige has alienated the entire locker room already. She says she doesn’t fit in and then cheap-shots her.

Fox continues to take advantage of the early lead she obtained via her sneak-attack. Finally, the ref calls for the bell and the match is officially started. Fox continues to punish the rookie Divas Champion. Fox knocks Paige out to the floor and follows her out to deliver some additional punishment.

Back in the ring, Fox continues her dominance as the crowd tries to rally behind the champ. Out of the blue, without hitting any offense at all, Paige hits the Paige-turner on Fox and covers her. 1-2-3. Paige wins. After the match, Fox freaks out a bit, steals JBL’s hat and struts up the ramp. Then a Daniel Bryan-Kane video package airs, and we’re informed that Daniel Bryan will address the WWE Universe next. We head to commercial.

Winner: Paige

Daniel Bryan Addresses The WWE Universe

After the break, Daniel Bryan’s music hits and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion makes his way to the ring. Before he can speak, the fans explode in a passionate “Yes!” chant. Bryan thanks the fans and talks about it being a long road to get to this point.

Bryan recaps some of the obstacles he had to overcome to finally get his WWE World Heavyweight Champion. He says being the champ puts a large target on his back. He says as soon as he became the champ he got the worst beating of his life, and describes some of the assault that he suffered at the hands of Kane. He says he overcame that and beat Kane at Extreme Rules.

Bryan continues to talk about how the attack from Kane resulted in him paying the price. He said his style also results in him having to pay the price. He reveals, what we reported exclusively at SESCOOPS.COM, that he needs to undergo neck surgery this coming Thursday. He says there’s a chance this could be the end of his career. He says even though there’s a chance, it won’t happen. He says, “will I come back?” and responds to himself by leading the fans in a passionate “Yes!” chant. The fans chant along and his music plays again.

Exclusive: Daniel Undergoing Neck Surgery This Week

132

WWE World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan will be taking several weeks off due to a neck injury.

Bryan will undergo a minimally-invasive procedure. If it goes well, he could be back in time for the June 1st WWE Payback pay-per-view in Chicago. Otherwise, he’ll be back by Money in the Bank.

A source who was backstage at RAW says he’s been very quiet all day – and there were several rewrites to the show as a result of the injury.

Update: As we saw on Monday’s RAW, Daniel Bryan confirmed our report and announced he’ll be undergoing neck surgery on Thursday.

Alicia Fox “Quits” WWE (Updated)

76

WWE Diva Alicia Fox “quit” WWE during a segment with Stephanie McMahon that aired on the WWE App after her match against Paige.

After throwing a fit at ringside following her loss, Fox walked up to Stephanie backstage and told her, “I quit.” She tweeted shortly thereafter:

In his latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross wrote:

“Really loved Alicia Fox’ performance on RAW as her post match antics were eye opening and showed just how marketable the lovely young woman can be if she is cast properly and she raises her game as she did tonight. Minutes Maximized.”

Since announcing to Stephanie McMahon that she is “quitting” – Alicia Fox spoke to Tom Phillips on the WWE App and denies she had a meltdown. She says she had a “moment” but is not a quitter. She added that her “milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.”

Damien Sandow Cuts A Shoot Promo Before RAW On The WWE Network

25

Damien Sandow cut a shoot-style promo on the WWE pre-show that aired on the WWE Network prior to RAW.

Sandow ripped his RAW segment with Hugh Jackman, saying he doesn’t have a wear a superhero costume to get TV time. He said that he’ll probably get stuck tag teaming with Yoshi Tatsu, but he’s got something to say. When his microphone was cut off, he got in Josh Matthews face and asked him if he was afraid.

Sandow said something about WWE being a publicly traded company, but his comments were inaudible due to the mic being cut. He tweeted the following about the segment:

He later lost to Cody Rhodes clean on RAW.

Backstage News On TNA’s Major Financial Troubles: Employees Threaten To Walk Out During Impact

85

There is major concern backstage in TNA right now about the financial future of the company.

At this past week’s TNA Impact Wrestling tapings from Orlando, members of the production staff were going to walk out in the middle of the tapings due to the company being behind on paying them. TNA caught wind of the situation and immediately cut checks to the production staff to cool them off.

There was a lot of tension behind the scenes last week, with money being tighter than it ever has been.

TNA has been cutting talent since last summer, with Frankie Kazarian being the latest casualty. He is no longer with the company because TNA did not want to (or could not) continue paying him what he was making.

Instead of keeping veterans like Kazarian and Daniels on board, TNA will be signing younger talent that will work for half of what Kazarian was making.

Batista Signs On To Appear In ‘Kickboxer’ Remake With Georges St. Pierre

7

WWE Superstar Batista and UFC legend Georges St. Pierre have signed on to appear in ‘Kickboxer’ – a remake of the 1989 cult classic starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brian O’Shea’s The Exchange will begin shopping the film to foreign buyers later this week at the Cannes Film Market.

Producer Ted Field of Radar Pictures has been planning the remake for a year, already signing Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Fung to direct.

Stuntman and martial artist Alain Moussi has signed on to play the lead. Here’s the synopsis:

“Kickboxer tells the story of David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Venice, Calif., fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother’s protestations that the man is a crook. When Kurt travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died, and seeks his revenge.”

Brian O’Shea touted to the Hollywood Reporter:

“We have a visionary director, a strong Hollywood producer, great cast and an action-packed script based on a well known property. What more can you ask for?”

Kickboxer will executive produced by O’Shea, Mike Weber and Peter Meyer. Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi will also produce.

Possible Change To NXT’s Taping Schedule, Update On Mason Ryan’s Release

12

– There has been talk in WWE about taping NXT television every two weeks instead of every four weeks, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The upside of taping every other week is that the shows would be ‘fresher’ and crowds would not get burnt out by sitting through four weeks of tapings. The downside is that production costs would increase and the tapings do not bring in much revenue for WWE.

– Mason Ryan’s recent release from WWE NXT surprised some people, because he was generally well-liked, had a very impressive look and was from the UK (Wales), which would have been a draw when the company tours overseas. That said, his ring work was not progressing fast enough and the company apparently decided it was better to free up space at developmental.
