Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. TNA Lockdown PPV Results – March 9, 2014

TNA Lockdown 2014

TNA Lockdown opens with a shot from earlier in the day of World Champion Magnus making his way into the building in Miami, Florida, the site of tonight’s show. That’s followed up by Samoa Joe entering the arena earlier in the day. We then get the usual kick-ass opening video package, with highlights of all the history leading into the top feuds, all of which culmninate in steel cage matches tonight.

After the video package, Mike Tenay welcomes us to the 2014 edition of TNA’s Lockdown pay-per-view. We then quickly head to the ring, with Christy Hemme introducing the first match.

Bad Influence & Chris Sabin vs. Sanada, Yasu & The Great Muta

Out first are Bad Influence, the tag-team of Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian. Both guys come out in Japanese-style outfits, complete with masks. Their tag-team partner for tonight, Chris Sabin, is out next. Their opponents, X-Division Champion Sanada, along with Yasu and The Great Muta make their way to the ring. Highlights are shown of Sanada winning the X-Division Championship during his entrance.

The bell rings and Chris Sabin and Sanada start things off for their respective teams. Sanada goes to work on the arm of Sabin straight out of the gate. Sabin reverses the tide and is putting the boots to Sanada on the mat. The crowd are already getting going with the chants as the pace picks up between Sanada and Sabin. Lots of quick reversals and pin attempts from both guys as Mike Tenay puts over Sanada as a big deal.

Sanada makes the tag to Yasu and Sabin tags in Kazarian. The fans break out in a “we want Muta” chant as Kazarian establishes control over his Japanese opposition. Yasu gets Kazarian in a headlock and makes the tag to The Great Muta. Muta comes in firing away with quick kicks as the crowd explodes for the Japanese legend. Kazarian makes the tag to Daniels. Muta quickly goes to work on Daniels. Muta sprays the mist in the air and the crowd pops.

Muta makes the tag to Yasu and Kazarian is brought back into the contest. Yasu blasts Kazarian with some kicks. Daniels distracts Yasu, allowing his Bad Influence teammate to regain control of the offense. Kazarian tags in Daniels. Daniels, along with Sabin, come in and the trio triple-teams Yasu briefly. Daniels tags in Sabin after only being the legal man for a few seconds. Sabin chokes Yasu with his boot in the corner. Muta tries to come to his partner’s aid, which ties the referee up long enough to allow Bad Influence and Sabin to triple-team Yasu once again.

Daniels hits a big moonsault on Yasu for a near fall. Taz puts over Muta being one of the innovators of the moonsault, questioning what Muta thinks of Daniels’ version of the move he helped make popular in America. Bad Influence and Sabin hit a three-way dropkick on Yasu. Both teams make a tag and now Sanada and Daniels are the legal men. Sanada takes the hot tag and is flying all over the place, blasting each member of the Bad Influence/Sabin team with high-paced offense. The crowd comes alive as Sanada continues to fly all over the place. After some double-team action from the heels, Muta is tagged in. The crowd explodes once again for Muta.

Muta comes in, as well as everyone else in the match. There are bodies everywhere. Muta goes for a figure four leglock, but Bad Influence run in to break it up. Muta sprays the mist out of nowhere and then tags Sanada back in. Muta hits a shining wizard as Sanada goes to the top rope. Sanada hits a big moonsault on Daniels and pins him. 1-2-3. Muta sprays a different colored mist to celebrate the victory. The crowd broke out into a brief “this is awesome” chant, by the way, as the match was finishing up.

Winners: Sanada, Yasu & The Great Muta

Rockstar Spud & Dixie Carter Promo

Rockstar Spud comes out, to the surprise of Mike Tenay and Taz. Spud enters the ring and hops on the mic. The crowd boo’s him. Spud says as our Chief of Staff he’s here to introduce his queen, and all of ours, Madam Dixie Carter.

Dixie comes out to the top of the stage and the crowd boo’s and chants something. Dixie talks trash about James Storm a bit as the crowd drowns her out with loud boo’s. Dixie talks about MVP and the angle for surrounding tonight’s main event as the crowd chants “you suck Dixie.” She concludes by talking about how she went to New York to get something or someone to ensure her team will get the victory later tonight. Awful, awful promo segment.

Backstage With Jeremy Borash

Backstage, Jeremy Borash talks with one of the Knockouts, as well as Eric Young. They run down some of the interactive Twitter stuff they’re doing for the show.

Mr. Anderson vs. Samuel Shaw

The video package highlighting the history of the Mr. Anderson and Samuel Shaw feud, with the Christy Hemme involvement, etc., is shown to hype up the next match here at Lockdown.

Jeremy Borash, stepping in for Christy Hemme, introduces Samuel Shaw first. Mike Tenay talks about how this is an escape the cage match. Shaw makes his way to the ring as Taz talks about how creepy and dangerous Shaw is. Shaw grabs a mic before heading into the ring. Shaw climbs up to the top of the cage and sits down. He starts by saying “Christy where are you?” The fans in Miami get on Shaw’s case with chants. Shaw says if Christy doesn’t come out here he’s going to “end it all.” Shaw stands on top of the cage and then Mr. Anderson’s music plays.

Anderson comes out saying “whoa, whoa whoa.” He tells Shaw to hang on a second. Anderson reaches up and the mic drops from the ceiling. Anderson does his usual self-introduction stuff. Anderson tells Shaw he doesn’t wanna jump off that thing, referring to the cage that he’s standing on. He says it’s not high enough, he won’t be ending it all he’ll just twist his ankle or something. He says he needs at least four or five stories to pull it off. He tells him to come down from there so he can beat him up a little bit. Anderson asks the fans if they want him to beat him up a little bit. The crowd breaks out into a “Yes!” chant. Anderson gets the fans to chant “creepy bastard” at Shaw.

Anderson’s music starts playing again, he takes his shirt off and he heads to the ring. Shaw is standing on the top rope now as the bell rings to make this one official. Tenay again points out that this is an escape the cage rules match. Anderson goes to work on Shaw as Christy Hemme makes her way down to ringside. Shaw catches Anderson running into the corner with a big boot to slow his momentum down. Anderson goes for the Mic Check but Shaw blocks it. Anderson hits a gut-wrench suplex on Shaw as Taz points out that it’s a Billy Robinson original move. He then talks about the unfortunate passing of Robinson. Shaw knocks Anderson down and begins to climb the cage.

We see a shot of Hemme looking on as Shaw continues his climb. Shaw gets one leg over the top of the cage, but then Anderson makes it up to stop him from escaping. The two trade punches. Shaw smashes Anderson’s face into the cage. And again. And a third time, which drops him down to the mat. Shaw climbs back over the top of the cage again, but again Anderson stops him. This time Anderson smashes Shaw’s face into the cage repatedly. This time both guys knock each other off the cage. Both guys are laid out in the middle of the ring. The “creepy bastard” chants start up again as Shaw gets back to his feet. Shaw asks the referee to open the door. Anderson rams into Shaw from behind, which blasts Shaw into the cage door, knocking Earl Hebner to the floor.

Anderson hits Shaw with his Mic Check finisher. The announcers point out that because Hebner was knocked out, and since he had the key, the only way these guys can escape now is by going over the top of the cage and out to the floor. Anderson hits Shaw with his finisher again. Christy is shown smiling and cheering Anderson on. Anderson climbs out to the floor, but Shaw grabs Hemme through the cage. Tenay says Anderson has this match won but now he’s got to save Hemme. Shaw pulls Hemme into the ring through the cage. He slowly closes in on Christy. Christy slaps him. Anderson finally makes it into the ring. He turns Shaw around and blasts him with a big punch. Hemme runs out of the cage. Shaw low-blows Anderson from behind. Shaw locks Anderson in his choke finisher. Shaw chokes out Anderson as we see Christy running to the back. Shaw walks out of the cage door and hits the floor. Hebner calls for the bell. I guess Hebner didn’t see Anderson climb out of the cage earlier. So, Shaw wins.

Winner: Samuel Shaw

  • Davey Richards Speaks On His WWE Tryout, Size Issue In WWE & More

    0

The following are highlights of a new interview with Davey Richards:

On his experience in WWE at the Performance Center and NXT: “It was great. We were brought down and put in Billy Gunn’s class. He runs the advanced classes. It was fun and I can’t say enough good things about everyone there. The place is obviously unreal. I t was a good time but it was just different strokes for different folks. It was kind of creepy to me that everyone was walking on eggshells, everyone is really scared for their job. I don’t know. It wasn’t like everyone was having a whole lot of fun down there or maybe they’re just nervous because there’s a lot of eyes on you. Obviously what they are doing has been successful. They’re doing a great job with it. We were treated respectfully and we were taken care of.. I knew then and I know now that their schedule is not for me. I’m glad I got to experience it but I’m glad I found a home with TNA.”

On if he was surprised that WWE didn’t give him a big offer: “I don’t know. You never really know what they’re thinking. The original plan was to do three weeks of NXT and then go to Smackdown but then we got the email that basically what it said was you guys are great but we have a lot of Davey’s and Eddie’s right now. So we’d probably just put you in developmental to start out and we wouldn’t do that when you’ve already been around the world making a living so you’re free to pursue other interests. I thought at least they’re being honest because they could have been yeah, you’re in developmental and it’s going to be great. Then you’re down there for three years. I thought it was really respectful of them. Obviously it worked out for them and it worked out for us. We’re both happy. It didn’t really surprise me. I’m thankful for it.”

On if he’s surprised that size is still an issue in WWE: “Yeah, it’s an old world idea, it’s an old school mentality that’s just obsolete in my opinion. Case in point Daniel Bryan. Even (CM) Punk isn’t a big guy. I’m not saying there aren’t big guys who are over and making a lot of money but the case in point is I don’t think size is relevant. Obviously if you go out there looking like a 15 year-old kid it’s going to be kind of hard promoting that you’re beating someone up who’s 6’5”, 250 (pounds). But people know what an athlete looks like. There’s a lot of different guys who are great wrestlers and tough dudes and 100% athletes and size notwithstanding they’re entertaining and people are going to watch them. It’s just an outdated idea in my opinion.”

  • Maria Kanellis Talks About Squashing Her Beef With The Bella Twins

    4

Former WWE Diva and current “First Lady of ROH” Maria Kanellis was recently interviewed by BetweenTheRopes.com. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

On rumors last year that she was returning to WWE: “Here’s the thing. I was asked to go back last year (to WWE). It fell through and that is all I know. I mean I had heard lots of other things. I had heard other things from different people. But at the end of the day, the fact is I didn’t go back. So no matter what happened and who knows, I mean I don’t know nobody knows what really happened. But I didn’t go back and I’m very happy to be at Ring of Honor. So, I apologized to the Bellas for everything that happened and that was it. I talked to them (the Bellas) and decided you know what, water under the bridge and that’s it. I guess I could be angry forever, but I’m not going to be (laughing). Because there’s no reason for it. I don’t want to be angry or upset because I don’t know.”

Not returning to WWE being a “blessing in disguise”: “It totally was (blessing in disguise). I realized that within a month of it happening, I realized how much of a blessing it was. I don’t know if I want to be on the road 300 days a year. I don’t know if I want that anymore. I really enjoy my time at home and I enjoy going to school and I enjoy seeing my fiancé at work. I don’t know if I want that life anymore. So maybe some part of the universe decided you know what, you don’t really want that life anymore. I loved WrestleMania, loved traveling the globe and it was great, fun and exciting, but I’ve done it. So for me, this is exactly where I should be now. I have no hard feelings whatsoever with anybody. I just want all women in wrestling to succeed now. I’m getting married later this year and Big Daddy V passed away and that was so tragically sad. I just have no desire to angry, no desire whatsoever.”

WWE At Madison Square Garden Live Report

    1

SEScoops.com reader Buzzard Follower sent in this live report from Saturday night’s WWE live event from Madison Square Garden in New York City:

    – They were still selling CM Punk merchandise and a few chants broke out, but not for long.

    1. The Usos def Rybaxel and The Brotherhood. The Usos pinned Ryback. After the match the Rhodes brothers shook hands and rose the Usos hands in victory. Ryback then cut a promo about how New York sucks and he was going to turn his career around. Lots of Cody and Uso chants, Goldust was hardly in the match and this was the best match of the night.

2.The  Miz and Justin Gabriel ended in a no contest after Ryback attacked both of them. After the match, Gabriel hit a 450 splash on Ryback. Miz got a great ovation during his entrance but other than the 450 by Gabriel crowd was silent the whole time.

    3. AJ Lee w/Tamina def Cameron to retain the Divas title with a Shinning Wizard. Originally scheduled as a dance off which drew massive boos from the audience, AJ attacked Cameron pre match then left Cameron called her back and the match started. Notes: Some boring chants and one guy yelling “your father is a murder” to Tamina.

    4. Kofi Kingston def Damien Sandow with the Trouble in Paradise. Sandow came out to boos and got on a mic and said he was going to come back out to the ovation us “underachieving degenerates are supposed to give him” he then came out to a loud chorus of boos. Sandow got a mixed reaction at first and Kofi got a decent pop too. During the match crowd was still quiet no one could follow that opening match. Also a kid in a yellow shirt around 10-11 ran up and punched Sandow on the back. he was not thrown out but security stayed in front of him the rest of the night.

    5. Daniel Bryan def Kane with his Knee Plus running knee. Triple H came out before the match to loud boos and CM Punk chants. He cut a promo on how MSG was the worlds most famous arena (got a pop) and how the greats like Sammartino, Morales, Backlund, Hogan, Hart, Micheals, Austin and himself have all headlined this arena (all the names got cheers except for himself). He then said Daniel Bryan will never headline MSG or Wrestlemania and that he would never be WWE Champion. Kane came out to boos. Bryan came out to the loudest pop of the night the building felt like it was shaking with all the Yes! chant. Triple H knocked out 2 refs to help Kane. This was also the 2nd match the crowd was invested in the whole match. Post match, they teased Bryan and Triple H would get into an altercation. Stephanie came out (w/Fit Finlay and Dean Malenko) and said it will never happen and Finlay pushed Bryan around before Bryan kneed him and then hit a suicide dive on Hunter and Kane who looked like fell into Steph. More yes chants and some Punk chants. Also some Iceman chants for Malenko.

    Intermission

    6. The Ascension w/ Vickie Guerrero def Los Matadores w/El Torito. This match was very boring the crowd was not into much. The Ascension hit a clothesline chopblock combo for the win. Vickie and El Torito had some run ins with each other outside. Post match, El Torito hit Vickie with the “gore” to her ass.

    7. Dolph Ziggler def Alberto Del Rio w/the Zig Zag. This match got some response and it was a fun match with a few false finishes. Both men hit their signatures and Del Rio would go into a tirade every time Ziggler kicked out. Ziggler got the 2nd loudest pop of the night.

    8. John Cena and Batista def Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt with the after Cena hit Orton with the Attitude Adjustment. Batista came out to massive boos and Bryan chants and got into a few fans faces sticking his figure out to one of them he looked PISSED. Orton came out to a decent reaction that was mixed Wyatt came out alone to a nice response the arena never went fully dark as he had an Undertaker like blue light (not the lantern but he did have that) on his way to the ring. Cena got a mixed reaction similar to Orton. Cena pushed Orton into Wyatt and Wyatt landed on the guardrail. Cena went for a tag but Bastista stepped down and flexed. He came back in and hit Cena with the Batista Bomb. Orton went for the pin and Cena kicked as Dave walked out he came back out to get into a fans face before leaving again. Orotn went for the punt and ran right into a sister Abigail from Wyatt. Wyatt went to attack Cena but Cena through him out of the ring and hit Orton with the AA. After the match, Cena went around and high-fived some fans as the show ended.

It was a good show but the crowd was quiet for half of it. Orton and wyatt had promos on the screen early in he show. Pictures of Hogan and Sheamus got loud cheers even though they were not there. No bad chants but Batista seemed to get into it with a few fans. WWE returns to MSG on July 12th.

    11

  • Backstage News On Plans For Vince McMahon To Return To WWE TV In April

    19

According to one source, Vince McMahon is scheduled to return to WWE television as an active on-air character following WrestleMania XXX in April.

While the plan all along was for McMahon to return leading into WrestleMania XXX, this news should be taken for what it is, considering the fact that despite actually being advertised to return multiple times, WWE kept deciding against bringing McMahon back as a regular television performer.

It should be noted, however, that Stephanie McMahon is once again being referred to on-air as a “Principal Owner of WWE” again, which was the original terminology that was going to lead to Vince McMahon’s return.

  • Million Dollar Man Speaks On Grooming Stone Cold, Problems With Attitude Era

    1

Phil Johnson sent along the following:

WWE Hall of Famer “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase Sr. recently took some time to participate in an exclusive in-depth interview with PWMania.com. DiBiase, now retired from active wrestling, serves the public as a minister for Heart of David Ministry and had a lot to say about his new profession, wrestling, his family and more including Vince McMahon, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, WCW and the attitude era. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Vince McMahon & The Million Dollar Man Character: “It all has to do with marketing. The greatest marketing is word of mouth. Nobody can disagree that Vince is extremely good at marketing. He has marketed WWE so well and even the name Wrestlemania is synonymous with events like the Super Bowl. Now, this past Super Bowl was terrible. But, it’s a brand, just like WWE is a brand. People will still watch that brand. Wrestlemania will sell out because of its strength as a brand.”

Grooming Steve Austin: “I was really happy for him. I told him when I managed him the reason Vince put me with guys is because he hoped I would groom them. I told Steve at the time to keep doing what he was doing because what it is believable. You may not get over as fast, but you will last longer than guys who get over real fast and then their popularity dies out. Once you get over, you can do whatever you want. I don’t think anybody expected his character would grow to be as big as it did.”

The Attitude Era & Steve Austin: “But, as far as still managing him if I was still there, I wouldn’t be with him. As a Christian, I had an issue with the Attitude Era. If Stone Cold’s character was the heel, I’d be okay with it. But because he was drinking beer, flipping the bird and cursing…and getting cheered for it? And he becomes a babyface? That sends a message to teenagers that it’s ok to do all those things. That didn’t sit well with me.. The same thing was true with the NWO because we were the bad guys. But the bad guys were becoming the cool thing to be. There are good guys and bad guys in wrestling and I feel the story that should be told is that the good guys in the end win. If we send that message to kids, we are sending the right message. The Million Dollar Man character always got his butt kicked in the end.”

The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Appearances: “Regarding his once-a-year Wrestlemania appearances, I can only think “Mark, how many times can you do this?” Every year I think he would be getting closer to the end. But the fact that he only makes this one-time appearance is great because fans of the Undertaker will be there and will look forward to seeing him. One of the reasons Elvis Presley was famous is because the only time you ever saw him was when he walked on stage. He would walk on stage, would perform and literally left the building. It adds to the mystique. The less you see something you like, the more you want to see it.”

“The Million Dollar Man” also spoke more on Steve Austin and Vince McMahon, his future plans, WCW, WWF/E, Ted DiBiase Jr., being a minister among several other topics. You can read the in-depth interview in its entirety at PWMania.com.

Batista Involved In Physical Altercation With A Fan At WWE Live Event

WWE Superstar Batista got into a physical altercation with a fan at Friday night’s WWE live event from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Prior to his match against the Big Show, Batista exchanged words at ringside with Cam Carson, a radio DJ from the local Power 97 station that was a co-sponsor of the show. According to multiple fan accounts, Carson hit Batista in the back/shoulder area as he was turning to enter the ring for his match. Batista then allegedly got in his face and shoved him down. Carson attempted to climb over the ringside barricade but was stopped by security.

Several minutes later, Batista was circling the ring (after his match) and flipped Carson the bird.  That led to Carson getting riled up and trying to hop the rail again, which led to security escorting him away.

Cam Carson’s co-worker @Radio_Shecky tweeted this photo of the altercation:

Jim Ross Blog: Time Limit Draws, Seth Rollins, Heyman DVD

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with a new blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are the highlights of what he said about:

Time Limit Draws In Wrestling: “Interesting feedback from a past Podcast topic regarding why TV Wrestling Companies don’t utilize time limits or draws from time to time. A competitive match with an added sense of urgency because of a time limit is much more appealing to me than a flaccid disqualification or a lame count out. Having a presentation billed as an athletic contest that has no time limit for all the matches is not reality based.”

Seth Rollins: “Just a casual observation but Seth Rollins has stood out recently on WWE TV and has illustrated how one maximizes their minutes.”

Being Interviewed For WWE’s Upcoming Paul Heyman DVD: “Based on what some of those interviewed have told me, I’m not sure that the upcoming Paul Heyman DVD will be a tribute or a roast. Seriously, the DVD should be entertaining and informative but if you would have told me in our WCW days that Paul would someday have a WWE DVD, I’d have asked what you were smoking. My Happy Heyman DVD interview lasted over two hours and from what I was told I was the last person to be interviewed for the much anticipated release.”

JR noted that his new Ross Report podcast is ranked #1 on the ITunes Sports Top Ten in the USA, Canada, and the UK – and that he’s looking to book additional “Ringside: An Evening With Jim Ross” shows.
