Report: TNA Cancels Multiple Impact Wrestling Television Tapings

9

TNA has made some interesting moves recently regarding scheduled Impact Wrestling television tapings. As of today, TNA no longer has taping dates listed for December 5th or December 19th on their schedule.

Originally, the December 5th date was scheduled for Chattanooga, Tennessee, and while the December 19th date may have never been officially reported to the public, there was a location for that television taping as well.

Additionally, TNA apparently has no tickets on sale for their November 21st Impact Wrestling television taping in Baltimore, Maryland, despite early word that there were tickets available, but that the advance for the show was terrible. According to one report, fans who called asking about tickets for the Baltimore taping were told to try again next week, despite nothing official being reported about the event being canceled.

For what it’s worth, the TNA Impact Wrestling television taping on December 27th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is still on their currently advertised schedule.

Top UFC Contender Talks About Daniel Bryan Making His “Yes!” Chant Popular

14

Top UFC lightweight contender and one of the winner’s of season one of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, Diego Sanchez, spoke about his infamous “Yes!” chant being borrowed and made famous in the world of pro wrestling by Daniel Bryan during a recent UFC 166 pre-fight interview on Thursday in Houston, Texas.

Sanchez, who started the “Yes!” chant as he would walk to the scale for weigh-ins, as well as during his walk to the octagon at his UFC fights years ago, spoke about how Bryan took the chant and made it a cross-over chant recognized by WWE fans. Sanchez said he reached out to Bryan to talk to him about it, but claimed Bryan never got back to him. Sanchez did mention that he has no ill will towards Bryan for using the chant, and noted that Bryan has given him credit for creating the chant in various media interviews.

Sanchez stopped using the chant on a regular basis, but told MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, when asked if he would bring the chant back this weekend at UFC 166, “if the fans want the ‘Yes!,’ they’re gonna get the ‘Yes!'”

Diego Sanchez challenges top-ranked UFC lightweight contender and former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez this Saturday on pay-per-view.

Chavo Guerrero Interview: What Would Eddie Guerrero Think Of Today’s Product?

18

In a recent interview with The Daily Star out of the United Kingdom, TNA Impact Wrestling performer Chavo Guerrero spoke about what he feels the late Eddie Guerrero would think of today’s pro wrestling product.

“I don’t think he’d like it too much the way it is now, because it is hard for a young wrestler to get that seasoned experience,” noted Guerrero. He continued, “You can disguise it all you want with explosions and pyro and entrances, but when it comes down to it in the ring, it’s you and that other person. That’s it.”

Guerrero concluded, “People don’t get the chance to travel these days and learn how to wrestle, how to perfect this art.”

Kurt Angle Speaks On His Connection To WWE, New Face Of TNA, Hulk Hogan, BFG

8

The following are highlights from a recent Busted Open Radio interview with TNA Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle:

On how he feels after rehab: “I feel great. I’m a lot healthier now and a lot more clear minded. I feel a lot better right now. I needed the break. I needed to do what I did and I feel a lot better now.”

On going through WWE sponsored rehab and his connection to the company: “The WWE program has been amazing. They have done a lot for me and they continue to. I work with them still. They’re amazing at what they do. They have had so many guys go through recovery and still are in recovery. We have a weekly chat every Wednesday night at 7pm. It’s really beneficial for everybody.”

On whether or not he felt pressure to return in time for Bound For Glory: “No. I didn’t think I was going to be a part of it. I found out last week. I’m very glad I am, but I was supposed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and that was pretty much it. I’m very excited to be working with Bobby Roode. I think he is the best wrestler today and to have a match with him at Bound For Glory is going to be amazing for me.”

On what he has learned about himself throughout recovery: “Basically putting God first. Realizing my whole life has been revolved around me and high expectations of myself and never really enjoying what I have done and what I have accomplished, whether it be in the Olympics or in pro wrestling. I have never really been satisfied. It led to a lot of depression and turmoil. It’s about going easy on yourself and patting yourself on the back every once in a while, which I’ve never done. With anything it’s putting things in perspective a little bit. What I do is a job. My marriage and my kids are more important than that. I don’t think I ever looked at it that way until now.”

On what it’s like coming back to TNA after a lengthy absence: “There was a lot of uncertainty. Thank God the company is still going. They’re still kicking it in high gear, but hearing about the changes from the outside in looked a little scary. But once I got to TV last week everybody is still giving their highest performance and doing the best that they can. Everybody is working hard. We need to unite as one and try to make this a better product. I think we have done that the last month or two. I love the Dixie heel turn. I think that was awesome. It comes down to the writers in creative and the wrestlers really coming together and making it a full team effort.”

On whether or not he feels this is the most important Bound For Glory in history: “I believe it is. Right now we need a great show. We need a five star show. It’s only going to help us. With the changes we have made we have to prove to the fans that we have the ability to have that five star show. We HAVE to have one.”

On changes he would make if he were in charge of TNA: “I would have a better way of organizing things. I would have a lot more rehearsal. I would have talent come to the ring every hour of the day and just rehearse and go over and just ram it down their throats so that they have it right when they come to the show that night. We have been doing that. Have we been doing it enough? Yes and no. But I don’t want it to become, and it’s not in any means a WCW, but you don’t want it to become where the talent says what they want to say and the story isn’t going to go anywhere because the writers and the talent aren’t really talking. I don’t want it to become that. I want it to become more organized like the way Vince McMahon runs the show. That’s how I was brought in and for seven years that’s how I was taught. I believe TNA is going in that direction now.”

On whether or not he would re-sign Hulk Hogan: “Oh yeah! A lot of people would say no but look what this guy has done for wrestling. Anytime he goes out he gets the loudest cheer. It doesn’t matter if he is wrestling or not. Hogan is a talent you want in your company and I have a lot of respect for him. I didn’t have a lot of respect for him when he first started, but I really didn’t know him because I didn’t watch wrestling when I first started. But getting to know him and seeing what he has done for the business, I would say heck yeah, you want to sign that guy.”

On who he feels is the next face of TNA: “I really like Magnus right now. I love his promos skills and his wrestling has gotten a lot better. I would really love to re-push Samoa Joe. He is a cornerstone of the company and sometimes I feel like we are not utilizing him right. That guy can carry the company. He can carry any company. AJ Styles has done a tremendous job, but when you look at the young talent, there are a lot out there that have the ability. Right now stepping up it’s hard. I love Bobby Roode. James Storm is another guy we have kind of thrown by the wayside a little bit. He has talent up the wazoo. Those are the guys I believe will be the future.”

Huge Backstage Update On TNA’s Plans For Kurt Angle After Bound For Glory

Explanation Behind Wade Barrett’s Absence, Goldberg/WWE News, New Mysterio DVD

9

-One of the key reasons Wade Barrett has not been featured on WWE television or at WWE live events in recent weeks is due to the fact that he is back in England dealing with visa issues. As noted previously, Barrett recently returned to action with the company during their current live event tour in Mexico.

-The new Rey Mysterio DVD produced by WWE is scheduled for a release in 2014.

-For those wondering, it indeed was Vince McMahon who made the call for Jerry “The King” Lawler to mention the “Goldberg” chants on Monday’s RAW and tie it into the current “Ultimate Goldberg Collection” DVD that was released by the company this week. Whether or not more transpires as a result, remains to be seen.

WWE Surprised Brie Bella Isn’t More Over As A Babyface, Backstage RAW Note

30

According to one source, WWE is apparently puzzled as to why Brie Bella is not more over as a babyface right now. The general consensus is that she came off on the “Total Divas” reality show as a super-babyface, unlike her twin-sister Nikki Bella, who at times came off as a heel.

Considering the fact that she came off as such a babyface on the show, WWE reportedly failed to understand why she didn’t receive more sympathy from the fans during the beat down she suffered at the hands of Tamina Snuka and AJ Lee on this past Monday’s edition of WWE RAW.

Obviously, Total Divas represents a small percentage of the fan base that watches RAW, and the demographics are very different, however some in the company fail to make that connection.

Speaking of Bella, as noted previously, current plans call for her to challenge AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship at the upcoming WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.

John Cena Update: His WWE TV Return, Will He Appear On RAW Or SmackDown?

10

The word in WWE is that John Cena will not be appearing live in person on any WWE televised programming until the October 28th edition of WWE RAW. Cena will make his live return with the company at the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view on Sunday, October 27th, and return to WWE television the next Monday night.

As far as Cena’s role when he returns, many have questioned if he will be on RAW or SmackDown, since he is challenging for Alberto Del Rio’s World Heavyweight Championship in his return match, and the World Heavyweight Championship is seen more as a SmackDown-brand title, whereas the WWE Championship is seen more as a RAW-brand title. The plan, as of right now, is for Cena to appear on both RAW and SmackDown following the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view, leading up to the Survivor Series pay-per-view in November. Following the Survivor Series event, Cena is scheduled to go on the road for WWE live events, but only appear on television on RAW on Monday night’s.

Former TNA Knockout Talks Desire To Work In WWE, Total Divas, TNA, New Movie

4

The following are highlights of a VOC Wrestling Nation interview with former TNA Knockout Thea “Rosita” Trinidad:

On her new movie, “Army of the Damned”: “Tommy Dreamer introduced me to the producer and director, who were wrestling fans. As soon as he saw how Dreamer and I interacted, they decided (to pair us together). It’s really cool; we have a great cast and I feel like everyone was picked perfectly for their roles. There were some scenes in there where I was legitimately scared. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. The movie will be available worldwide on January 14.”

On her career aspirations: “I’ve always loved acting, and I always thought that acting was just getting me prepared for wrestling, but then I fell in love with it. I’m going to pursue acting, but I’m going to keep up with wrestling because I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished everything that I want to accomplish yet.”

On having a desire to work in the WWE: “Absolutely. Since I was four years old, I knew that this was something I wanted to do. This was my dad’s dream as well. He took me to WWE events as a child all the time. I knew from a young age that this was something I wanted to do – being the women’s champion, working Wrestlemania. Some people get into wrestling because they want to do it for a living, they’re happy working the independents or just wrestling anywhere, and they don’t care about working for WWE; for me, I’m not fully (fulfilled yet) in my wrestling career. Plus, I’ve only been doing it for 5 years and I have a long way to go.”

On working with big names in TNA: “It’s incredible. Walking into TNA and seeing everyone I grew up loving was such an amazing experience. Hulk Hogan was my dad’s favorite. Last 9/11, I got the chance to talk to Hogan for an hour about our experiences with 9/11 (Thea’s father passed away during the attack). I walked away from that conversation thinking, “wow, I just got to talk to Hulk Hogan. It’s validation for me that I’ve made it, and I’m proving people wrong that said I could never get there.”

On her relationship with TNA: “I didn’t leave on bad terms. The door is never closed. I don’t have any bad feelings toward anybody, and I will never burn a bridge. Tommy Dreamer got me my tryout, Terry Taylor signed my contract, and D’Lo was there with me from the start. My best friends were made at TNA. I have amazing memories.”

On “Total Divas”: “I do watch it. I met Naomi in 2010 when I tried out for WWE. She is such a star. I also have the utmost respect for Nati. (WWE is) putting so much into their up and coming talent and I think it’s great.”

Update On What Business Meetings Jim Ross Had In NYC, Who He Met With & More

Will Hulk Hogan’s Sex Tape Affect His Potential Signing With WWE?

38

Apparently all current WWE talent have moral clauses, and the company directive is that talent that have inappropriate photos or videos in the public will not be hired as on-air performers. Whether or not this becomes an issue with negotiating with Hulk Hogan, who has a sex tape that is out in the public, remains to be seen.

Of course, with Hogan, there is a double-standard due to his star power, and it could be viewed as a different situation in that Hogan was allegedly unaware that he was being filmed, and didn’t condone its’ release in the first place.

Internal WWE Memo Leaks & Reveals Banned Phrases Announcers Can’t Use

53

A leaked memo that dates back a few years revealed a few things about the way Vince McMahon wants his product presented on the air – and what phrases have been specifically banned.

Vince McMahon apparently banned the phrase, “Granddaddy of them all” when referring to WrestleMania. Apparently the feeling is that the phrase makes the show feel dated and old. Additionally, no one is allowed to use the word “choke” when describing various submission holds. The Undertaker’s “Hell’s Gate” finisher was also renamed “Triangle Submission Hold” (despite the fact that it’s actually a gogoplata, which isn’t exactly the triangle choke commonly seen in MMA, even though it looks similar. Gogoplata’s are much more rare, and the only one that comes to mind is Nick Diaz’s gogoplata submission victory over Takanori Gomi at one of the final PRIDE events in the U.S., where the outcome was overruled due to Diaz popping hot for marijuana in his post-fight drug test).

Other banned phrases include “title changes hands,” which is mainly directed at the WWE announcers, and comes from WWE producer Kevin Dunn.

Also, McMahon has banned terms such as “Five Star Match” and “Match Of The Year.” Additionally, WWE announcers were informed that they should no longer read “dirt sheets” with the feeling being it influences what they might say or refer to in commentary.

Stephanie McMahon sent a memo out to the announcers, informing them that they are never to use the phrase “the referee didn’t see it” when a heel is doing something behind the referee’s back. Stephanie wrote in the memo that it makes it seem like the announcers are treating the fans like they are in grade school. She wrote that she would prefer phrases such as “the referee’s vision was impaired,” or “the referee’s vision was blocked.”

The words “hatred” and/or “hate” were banned, as well as “blood” or references to bleeding. Finally, the announcers were told never to say a talent doesn’t care about winning a particular match.

Details On WWE’s Attitude Towards Signing Smaller Wrestlers & Indy Talent

17

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is being cautious/hesitant when it comes to signing smaller wrestlers and already-established talent from the independent scene.

As it pertains to smaller talent, WWE officials reportedly feel that the company already has enough smaller talent and there is not a strong need to sign smaller wrestlers at this time. WWE is looking to sign larger wrestlers who they feel have more upside and potential to be main eventers.

As for independent wrestlers, WWE is concerned that they will have to spend a lot of time breaking the “bad habits” they learned elsewhere and re-training them to work the WWE style. WWE also does not want to sign indy talent, give them exposure and then have them leave, only to make more money elsewhere as a result of their time in WWE.

Looking at the big picture, WWE is looking to utilize the Performance Center to train new talent from scratch.

Damien Sandow Comments On His Losing Streak, Forgotten Big Men

8

WWE.com has published a list of “The Ring’s Forgotten Big Men” – including Roadblock, Nathan Jones, “Crusher” Jerry Blackwell, 911 & more.

– During a recent interview with Temple News, Damien Sandow commented on his losing streak since winning Money in the Bank:

“Ah yes, you’re slinging mud now. Well, let me ask you something. If I have a contract that states I have a guaranteed title match, do I really need to focus on my win-loss record? Let me answer that for you-no, I don’t.”

Rey Mysterio, Wade Barrett & Sin Cara Return At WWE Event In Mexico

12

WWE is currently running a live events tour of Mexico, with the first show taking place last night from Querataro. Here are full results from the show, which featured a few returns:

* Los Matadores beat 3MB. As you can imagine, Los Matadors were very over in Mexico.

* Wade Barrett returned to action, defeating Zack Ryder with the Bull Hammer.

* Sin Cara also returned, losing to World Heavyweight champion Alberto Del Rio. The crowd was chanting “Dos” at Del Rio and “Mistico” at Sin Cara. Del Rio won with the armbar and refused to let the hold go after the match. This brought out Rey Mysterio, who attacked Del Rio and saved Sin Cara. Rey and Sin Cara celebrated together after the match.

* Divas Champion AJ Lee defeated Natalya.

* The Wyatt Family defeated The Primetime Players.

* Damien Sandow defeated R-Truth.

* In the main event, CM Punk defeated Intercontinental champion Curtis Axel in a non-title match.

AJ Styles Interview: How He Would Run TNA, If He Is Staying With TNA Long Term

4

TNA star AJ Styles spoke with Mike Riker and Dave Lagreca on SiriusXM’s Busted Open to hype Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view. We posted the first batch of interview highlights here yesterday – the following are more of what AJ Styles said about:

The journey through the past year: “Well, it’s definitely been a journey.  The ups and downs. The roller-coaster that has been A.J. Styles. Going from wrestling James Storm and Bobby Roode and having it all on the line and couldn’t wrestle for TNA World Heavyweight Title, it could have been James Storm or Bobby Roode or myself. Lucky me, I had the opportunity to lose that match and it really set me in a different mindset and losing to Christopher Daniels in a match that I should have never lost but when your head is all screwed up as it was, it send you to a whirlwind of “I don’t knows and I don’t know who I am” and problems occur and its reality and that’s what happens to a lot of people in life. They may lose their job, they may lose a marriage and stuff like this happens. Sometimes people forget who they are and what’s there purpose in life and that’s the same thing that happened to A.J. Styles.”

Deserving the respect: “I do and that’s what bothers me a lot, that I didn’t get that respect and when I called Dixie (Carter) out about it, she showed her true colors. She has shown who she really is. She’s a snake. She’s a money hungry person.  She’s out for “what’s best for Dixie”, not for what’s best for the boys, what’s best for the company and what makes her the most money and if you don’t, well, she’s going to cut the fat.”

Being relied on: “What was bothering me was is that, you called on me every time you needed someone to take you to the next level to have that great match, you called on me. Then when it wasn’t called on me than what’s the deal. Then I realized for a second, I’m pissed off because I like being the go-to guy. I want to be that guy. Now that you are not giving me that chance, it’s pissing me off. That’s basically what I was saying. I enjoy being that go-to guy. I love being the guy that you’re going to give the ball to when it’s fourth down. I want to be that guy you give the ball to and I think a winner wants that. They want the ball in their hands when the championship is on the line or when the match is on the line but that fact that I wasn’t getting it is what really bothered me.  You talk about not being in the main event, that’s exactly what I’m talking about here. I want to be the go-to guy but if you don’t give me the opportunity, how can I do that and what is stopping you and it was stuff like that, that really bothered A.J. Styles through the whole thing.”

Top priority resigning with TNA: “Here is the reality. I love TNA. I grew up there. It’s who I am. You said it before when people think of TNA, they think of A.J. Styles. I take pride in that. But something has to change and I want to be there. I don’t know any other way to say it. I love the place. I’m not saying I love what happened to it but I love that place and I want to see it grow. I know we have the talent. We have everything we need. The puzzle is not put together yet but once you get those pieces in there, you will see how it connects. Then you will be like: “Wow, we really got something” but we need someone in charge that knows what to do with it once they see what’s going together well.”

Changes if A.J. Styles was in charge: “Well, there would be some guys that we can bring in. We need to open up. The one thing that separated TNA from the beginning was the talent. The fact that they were from all over the world, from a lot of different states, having different wrestling styles. When you’re from the south, it’s a little different. When you’re from the Northeast, it’s a little different.  When you’re from the West Coast, it’s a little different and that’s what was so great about TNA. We had guys from all over the nation and doing all different styles of wrestling and that’s what separated everyone else.  We weren’t cookie cutters. We were all different and I think we need to bring that back. We can’t be focused on certain people.  Don’t get me wrong, there is talent in the other place that can definitely come here and do well in TNA. But there are also talents in the independent circuit that deserve a chance too. I’m not saying they need to come here for a terrible contract to whatever it is. Give them a credible contract and come in here and show these people what they’ve been doing on the independents and doing well. We got to open up that door for younger talent to come in here because I was one of the first guys here and I’m getting older.”
