Larry Zbyszko Talks About What’s Wrong With TNA, Hogan, Bischoff, Vince, Russo & More

17

Wrestling legend Larry Zbyszko recently spoke with Steve and Scum of WGD Weekly. Here are some highlights of what the “Living Legend” said about:

The financial state of TNA: “They just made wrong decisions…from what I hear, Bob Carter…he had a hard time saying no to his daughter, Dixie… Finally, they blew so much money with no real results after ten years that Bob resigned and I think the mother took over and she is controlling the purse. From what I hear… this guy is now fired, this guy is now fired and if you wanna stay there you get a pay cut. Half the guys wrestling there are on food stamps. I was shocked when I heard that one.”

Where TNA has gone wrong creatively: “If you look at TNA today, I mean like ten years ago they had some great matches, AJ Styles vs. Chris Daniels, now ten years later, like six or seven months ago, I’m flicking through the TV and I stumble across TNA… and what’s the main event? AJ Styles vs. Chris Daniels, they’ve been wrestling each other for ten years. I couldn’t believe it… don’t these people understand?”

Hulk Hogan in TNA: “Instead of guys who can do something, they are blowing their wad on Hulk, god bless him, but he can’t walk anymore.”

Eric Bischoff in TNA: “Eric, who listened to a couple guys, pulled something off, then took credit for it, but everything he’s been involved in since sinks because he doesn’t know and won’t listen.”

Sting being “lucky”: “Sting who was one of the luckiest men who ever lived. Sting couldn’t do a good interview, he couldn’t work good. We had to drop him from the ceiling for a year and dress him like the crow and not let him say a word to get one big match out of him.”

His relationship with and thoughts on Vince McMahon since once again working on occasion with WWE: ” I haven’t bumped into Vince. I’ve been doing some things, like at ‘Mania, but I was running around doing Axxess, and signings, and filming DVD’s. When they tape the NXT shows they film that right down the street here… but, I haven’t bumped into Vince yet. I haven’t seen him since 1981. I can’t wait to see him, it will be very nostalgic. He looks great, between you and me, he’s one of the best characters he’s got. Vince is a classic, he would die for his creation and his fans, you can’t take that away from him.”

Vince Russo coming to WCW in 1999 and the dying days of WCW: “Eric and his buddies were gone, so Bill brings in this idiot Russo who was writing for the WWE… as far as I’m concerned, he’s a cancer…So, this goofy Russo comes in and by the time he came in… it went back to stupid nonsense with some idiot who has no idea what he is doing. So, they move me to Thunder. I was pissed, I knew the biggest, hottest wrestling ever was about to die. Russo just kept doing stupid stuff, the worst part is, we had a guy that was the next Bruno, Goldberg, people loved him, he was hot… but instead of Goldberg being champion, the new champion was Russo and some idiot little, skinny puke, David Arquette…the whole thing just turned to absolute manure… you had this slob, Mark Madden on Nitro, picking his nose and god knows what else. It was horrifying.”

AJ Styles Talks About Unhappiness In The TNA Locker Room & Kurt Angle In The TNA Hall of Fame

16

TNA star AJ Styles spoke with Mike Riker and Dave Lagreca on SiriusXM’s Busted Open to hype Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Being back in TNA’s main event scene:

“It feels awesome. I’ll tell you what feels better than being better in the main event; it’s having the crowd behind you. They know what they want out of A.J. Styles now. They know what to expect, when before they did not know what to expect, they didn’t know who I was or what to expect and to tell you the truth, I didn’t. But I think these fans know who I am now and what I’m after and who I have to beat to get it and that’s a great thing when you step into an arena and people are going crazy for you. It gives you that extra boost of energy that you can’t explain until you step into the ring or you step onto the field where all these people are cheering for you. It’s an amazing feeling.”

Unhappiness in the TNA locker room:

“Not everyone is going to be happy. Not everyone is going to be happy with the storyline that they are in, that’s just professional wrestling. Everyone wants to be at the top. Everybody thinks that they deserve more and you can’t blame them. You’re in a business where it’s going to take its toll on them as they get older and they want to make as much money as they can and think they have the ability to but when you’re not in that spotlight and believe me I know, it bothers you. I don’t want to say that we all are like: ‘This sucks,’ because we’re not. There are a lot of us just having fun but there is always going to be disgruntled guys in the back. It happens, it’s a cycle. You have to go through your turn of: ‘Oh crap, ok. Here we go.’ It’s one of those kinds of things. The locker room to me is not bad but it’s never going to be perfect. I don’t care where you’re wrestling at.”

Kurt Angle being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame:

“He’s a machine. I know you guys must have heard that a million times but it’s true. He is one of the best professional wrestlers in wrestling. He’s got it all. He can get on the microphone and entertain you there or he can get you in the wrestling ring and do the same. I definitely think Kurt Angle deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. That’s the things that bother me the most is that our Hall of Fame is that our guys are still wrestling. Ultimately wait until they are retired because they still have more work to do. Image all the good things you can say about them and then they have the match of there life after we induct them to the hall of fame. You got to bring that up. But those guys, Sting and Kurt deserve to be in the Hall of Fame and I have no bad feelings towards them because they are great guys.”

Wade Barrett Interview: Why He’s Been Off TV, Changes To His Gimmick & More

11

WWE Superstar Wade Barrett, who who has been off television for several weeks now, recently spoke to Neil Docking of Lep.co.uk to promote next month’s WWE Live Events tour of the UK. Here are some highlights of what Barrett said about:

During the interview, Barrett revealed that he should have been back on WWE television already, but he’s been stuck in the UK due to issues with his passport. He also addressed rumors that he’ll be returning to WWE with a new gimmick.

Why He’s Been In England For The Past Month:

“I’ve been back sorting out a new Visa at the moment, we’ve had a couple of delays on that. I actually went and watched Preston North End a few weeks ago, I went and watched them play away at Walsall and met the manager and the players, which was pretty cool. I’ve been back for about four weeks.”

“I was supposed to be back in the States two weeks ago and I think the Night of Champions pay-per-view I was supposed to be away for, but I also missed Battleground. It’s very difficult for me to do anything at the moment, being without a passport. Fingers crossed it gets cleared up in the next few days.”

Being Disappointed About Not Being On The Main WrestleMania Card

“Obviously you get a lot of guys coming back from the past, like Chris Jericho, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Triple H and The Undertaker, so the spots on the card tend to fill up very quickly when you’ve got guys like that who aren’t normally around on the show come back and take spots on the card. For me personally that is very disappointing that I missed out on that, but it just kind of fuels me more to make sure I’m on next year’s show.”

Ongoing Changes To His Character:

“I think I’m always looking to change and develop and I think you’ve got to do that just to keep fans interested, because they can kind of get pretty bored of the same thing over and over again. There’s not many people who can really get away with not evolving and changing and giving different things constantly.”

Update On Hulk Hogan’s Negotiations With TNA & WWE

102

Update: Despite our earlier report that Hulk Hogan is likely returning to TNA after WWE made a lowball offer to him, we can confirm that as of today (10/16), Hogan has still not signed with TNA or WWE and is currently a free agent.

Original Article:

It appears that Hulk Hogan will be returning to TNA. After becoming a free agent and negotiating with both TNA and WWE, f4wonline.com reports that TNA offered Hogan substantially more money than WWE did.

WWE’s offer was said to be a “lowball” offer – and nowhere near what they’ve offered other big stars in recent years, like The Rock and Brock Lesnar.

TNA’s offer to Hogan is believed to be a 1-year deal that will pay him approximately as much as The Rock and Brock Lesnar make for a single match in WWE.

With WWE looking to stack the WrestleMania XXX card as much as possible, making such a weak offer to Hogan could be a sign that one or more other big names (The Rock, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels) have already agreed to work the show.

Update On Bray Wyatt vs. The Miz, WWE’s Plans To Work Around Wyatt’s Injury

23

Originally, the plan was to promote a singles match between Bray Wyatt and The Miz for the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view on October 27th. Due to Wyatt’s recent calf injury, those plans might be pushed back to the November Survivor Series pay-per-view.

The talk backstage in the company is that if Wyatt is not medically cleared for an in-ring return in time for a match at the Hell In A Cell show, WWE will work around the injury by having Wyatt stalk and torment Miz as a way to extend the build to the match until Wyatt can physically compete.

Austin Aries Speaks On Idolizing Bobby Heenan, Bound For Glory, Ultimate X

10

The following are highlights from a recent DirecTV interview with TNA Impact Wrestling star Austin Aries:

On idolizing Bobby “The Brain” Heenan: “Bobby Heenan is one of my favorites of all time. Even back in the AWA, I just always thought he was great. And obviously The Horsemen dominating as well as Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, Magnum T.A., The Midnight Express, and The Freebirds. Of course Jake Roberts and Rick Rude. Those are the guys I grew up watching and idolizing.”

On his favorite opponents: “I always mention Bobby Roode. We just click on a lot of different levels. We grew up appreciating the same type of wrestler and same type of wrestling. We are similar students to the game. We work together against each other or as a tag partner. Guys like Samoa Joe, no matter what it’s been, what promotion, every time we are in the ring there is such an easy storytelling and psychology in there. We always had good matchups. Matches with Brian Danielson (Daniel Bryan of WWE) have always brought the best out of me. We’ve had a number of clashes over the years. Those are some guys off the top of my head.”

On Bound For Glory and the Ultimate X match: “Bound for Glory is Impact Wrestling’s biggest event. It is out in San Diego, and it is a whole weekend event. Unfortunately, I find myself challenging for the X Division Championship in an Ultimate X Match. It is exactly the type of match I look forward to as well as the fans. But there is an extra element of danger, having to scale a 20ft rope to grab the belt where it is hanging over the ring. You have three former world champs (Aries, Chris Sabin, and Jeff Hardy), as well as the current X division champ, Manik, and we all bring a little something different to the table. Anything can happen, and it is an exciting match for the audience and you definitely get sweaty palms participating in it because of the dangers that come with The Ultimate X Match.”

Updated WWE Hell In A Cell PPV Lineup: New Match & Stipulation Added

9

On Monday’s live edition of WWE RAW, a new match with an added stipulation was announced for the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view, which emanates from Miami, Florida on October 27th.

It was announced by RAW General Manager Brad Maddox that a “Beat The Clock Challenge” would take place to determine whether Paul Heyman or CM Punk would get to select the stipulation for Punk’s match against Ryback at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Ryback would take on R-Truth, while Punk would take on Curtis Axel. Ryback defeated Truth at 5:44, while Punk defeated Axel at 5:33.

It had already been revealed earlier in the night by Heyman that if Ryback won, the match with Punk would be a two-on-one handicap match against both Ryback and Axel. Since Punk won, he decided to keep it a two-on-one handicap match, instead featuring Ryback and Heyman against himself in a Hell In A Cell match.

With that now known, here is an updated look at the official lineup thus far for this year’s WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view:

Vacant WWE Championship
Hell In A Cell Match with Special Referee Shawn Michaels
-Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton

World Heavyweight Championship
-Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena

Hell In A Cell Handicap Match
-CM Punk vs. Ryback & Paul Heyman

WWE RAW opens with Justin Roberts bringing out the special guest referee for the WWE Hell In A Cell main event between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels.

In-Ring Segment: Shawn Michaels & Randy Orton

As HBK’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring, the WWE RAW announce team of Michael Cole, JBL and Jerry “The King” Lawler put over Michaels’ past in Hell In A Cell matches. The music ends and a Michaels waits for a “HBK” chant to wrap up. Michaels thanks everyone for voting for him on the WWE App last week. Michaels thanks the fans for not forgetting about “ole H-B-Shizzle.” Michaels runs down his history with both Orton and Bryan. He talks about training Daniel Bryan “many moons ago.” A loud “Yes!” chant breaks out. HBK talks about how he’s never liked Orton and that his best friend is still Triple H. Because of that, he says he can see why everyone might be concerned with him being the special guest referee. He says he respects both competitors and he respects the Hell In A Cell. He talks about being in the first Hell In A Cell match right here in this very building. HBK says when he thinks about Hell In A Cell, it reminds him how glad he is that he’s retired right now. He says what happened at Battleground was a “crock” and promises that it will not happen again. HBK promises that two men will walk in the Hell In A Cell, and one man will walk out the new WWE Champion. With that said, Randy Orton’s music plays. Randy Orton slowly makes his way to the ring as the announcers again talk about the history of the barbaric Hell In A Cell match. Lawler reminds everyone that St. Louis, where they are tonight, is the hometown of Orton. Orton’s music cuts off and a loud “Randy, Randy” chant breaks out. Orton says he’s got a match up next against The Miz, so he’s going to make this very quick. Orton says Michaels has everyone convinced, and that’s great.
