Jim Ross Blogs About WWE SummerSlam

23

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts on Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Show’s Production: Enjoyed the Summer Slam PPV and it was a real masterpiece from a TV production standpoint and look of the show. Very slick and well produced. No one does live TV better than WWE but I’ve been saying that for years.

The Main Event Swerve: Cena/Bryan/HHH/Orton created a most memorable moment at Summer Slam that certainly has a great deal of fans talking. It sets up some potential, interesting scenarios down the road. Bryan winning the title from Cena and then being able to celebrate before the pedigree and Orton’s pin was well done.

Daniel Bryan: Daniel Bryan may be more popular today than if he had actually won the WWE Title at Summer Slam. Bryan will now apparently chase new Champ Randy Orton and the thrill of the fan favorite chasing the antagonist has always interested me as a fan.

CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar: Punk vs. Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman was another masterpiece. I predicted that it would be overtly physical and it certainly was in delivering a ‘DEE-LUX’ Slobber Knocker of a match. Great intensity and physicality rarely fails to deliver when the money is on the line in a major PPV. Simple gameplan….great results.

Sin Cara Injury Update, Total Divas Rating Down Against SummerSlam

12

– Sunday’s episode of Total Divas drew 1.349 million viewers, down from the previous episode’s 1.671 million viewers.

The show aired during the final hour of SummerSlam, which explains the falloff. Despite viewership being down for the first time, Sunday’s show still had more viewers than the debut episode.

– After undergoing an MRI exam following his hand injury on RAW, Sin Cara wrestled in a dark match prior to Tuesday night’s WWE Smackdown tapings. He defeated Damien Sandow. No word yet on how the MRI went, but the fact that he was back in the ring the night after his injury is a good sign.

Vickie Guerrero opened the show to a shit load of heat and introduced Randy Orton. He spoke about giving us what we want. It was hard to hear he got a lot of heat. He said that he told us the truth about cashing in his briefcase at SummerSlam. He said he was surprised by what Triple H did, and that he didn’t need his help to win. He asked for our support and No! chants broke out. He said he is the face of the WWE.

Daniel Byran interrupted Orton and thanked John Cena for the opportunity at SummerSlam. Bryan said it’s time for the face of the WWE to change. Bryan insulted how Orton looks and said he looks pretty. He also called Orton arrogant. Bryan said he had to scratch and suffer while Orton was handed every opportunity.

Bryan challenged Orton for the title by saying I can beat you for that pointing to the title. He challenged Orton for the title tonight, but Orton said it has to wait until Night Of Champions. Orton and Bryan stood face to face and Orton held up the title. Bryan hit and kicked Orton from the ring.

Vickie was show talking and yelling about What Bryan did backstage, and Wade Barrett interrupted. A steel cage match was announced for later in the show

1. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel (w/Paul Heyman) beat Cody Rhodes. A pretty well wrestled match from both men, but there is a reason this match was on Smackdown. The crowd was pretty quiet for this match. The guy next to me caught me taking notes and told me to pay attention. WWE fans are crazy. A CM Punk chant broke out.

Heyman cut a promo afterward and received a ton of heat. He said he is in pain because of Punk. He moaned about Punk and trashed him, which caused a lot of heat. Heyman said Punk is lost without him. Axel said Punk doesn’t deserve a title shot for his title, but he challenged him for the title for this coming Monday on Raw.

2. Dolph Ziggler beat Big E Langston (w/A.J. Lee). Ziggler won by pinfall after a Zig Zag.

3. World Hvt. Champion Alberto Del Rio defeated Christian. Del Rio defeated Christian via submission the arm bar. After the match, Del Rio said something about Latinos, which led to cheers, but he called all of us peasants and said that he wants us to follow the great Alberto Del Rio. Ricardo Rodriguiez came out and trashed Del Rio, and introduced Rob Van Dam. Christian dropkicked Del Rio off the top rope and RVD did a frog splash to end the segment.

4. Big Show and Mark Henry defeated Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, and Jinder Mahal in a handicap match.Show and Henry won by pinfall after Show hit the WMD.

5. Darren Young defeated Antonio Cesaro.

6. Daniel Bryan defeated Wade Barrett in a cage match. A really good, competitive match with several near falls. And because of Bryan’s involvement, this match would have been an awesome pay-per-view match. Afterward, Orton came out and RKO’d Bryan. The crowd booed to end the show.

Dark Match

1. Big Show, Mark Henry, and Daniel Bryan defeated The Shield. Big Show gave Stinkfaces to all three members of The Shield and the crowd laughed.

Hernandez Talks About Breaking Into TNA, Career Highlights & More

1

TNA star Hernandez was recently interviewed by Houston Wrestling Radio. Here are some highlights from the interview.

On what made him became a fan of pro wrestling:
It was the Paul Boesch Houston Wrestling in the 80s. There you could see the Guerreros, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Butch Reed, One Man Gang, you name it. All of the biggest stars were there back in the early 80s. It was awesome!

On getting his start in the south Texas indy scene: I got trained by Tugboat Taylor and his son, Chaz in the late 90s and I started with Texas All-Star Wrestling around 1999. Back then, everything was hot. WWE, WCW and ECW was really hot. And it all trickled down. We would be drawing 500 to 800 people. Back then I was “Hot Stuff” Hernandez and I wrestled this young man named Necro Butcher. We would draw 500 people for “Hot Stuff” vs Necro in a hardcore match.

On his pre-wrestling relationship with Necro Butcher: Before I was making a living in wrestling, from about 1995 til 2001, I was an impound manager for the Houston Police Department. If you got a DWI or got your car towed for warrants, they would tow your car to a lot and you would have to come to me. I worked my way up from the night shift to manager. So I needed a night manager. The one who got the job was Necro Butcher; So he was my night manager. So if you were drunk in a club and had your car towed for illegally parking and you were talking all kinds of crap on the phone saying you would beat us up and then you would come to get your car, and then there’s this big 6”5? white hippie waiting for you. It was a sight to behold sometimes. We would get lots of cars that were illegally parked from the Houston Rodeo too. We would have to deal with a hundred drunk cowboys a night! And they all want to fight over the phone until they see us in person. Everybody’s tough behind a phone or behind a keyboard.

On how he broke into TNA: I basically took chances. I was the top draw in Houston for two or three years. My pockets weren’t getting any bigger. And unfortunately for pro-wrestling, it’s not a team sport. If you want to make it, you have to go out there and take chances. Necro Butcher taught me that first-hand. He left Houston. He made his name on the east coast doing hardcore stuff. I did it the hard way. I went to Japan three or four times, I went to Mexico. I wrestled there with a mask when TNA called me.

His response to the question of who he would have liked to work with but hasn’t: I’m very blessed. The wrestlers I’ve wanted to work with so far, I’ve worked. I’ve got to work a singles match with Sting. I’ve worked with Kurt Angle. I’ve got to work with AJ Styles and Austin Aries. Those two, as far as putting matches together and working the crowd… and Bobby Roode, those three are the best in TNA. I had a match with Jeff Hardy. I’m a huge fan of lucha. I’ve had matches with Dr. Wagner, La Parka, Cibernetico, guys from AAA. Another guy I was really a fan of, some people like him, some people don’t like him, Mike Awesome from ECW. I got a chance to tag with him in Japan. My bucket list is pretty much done.

If he prefers wrestling singles or tag matches: When I first got into wrestling, I used to love singles because it’s just you verses one man and a ref. It’s just three guys to make one match. But then when I got on television I almost wrestled exclusively tag matches. And me and my brother, well we’re not brothers but he might as well be my brother, Homicide, We meshed so well that I’d rather tag with him than wrestle any other type of match.

On what are his favorite matches of his career: Bound For Glory 2006, me and Homicide and Konnan versus AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels. We won the tag belts back in the cage. That match put us on the map. And then in 2011 with me and Homicide there was a match that wasn’t seen by a lot. Ring of Honor made a special deal to have me go over there for one night only to wrestle Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli. It was at Manhattan Mayhem in March of 2011. We tore the house down. Nothing is better and nothing more rabid than being in front of that Ring of Honor crowd.

On his upcoming appearance for the Clutch City Productions Sports and Celebrity SuperShow on August 31st: I’ll be there from 10:00am to 2:00pm. I’ll be autographing pictures. I’ll be autographing whatever you have, I’ll also be having “SuperMex” t-shirts. You can’t miss it. It’ll be one of the few times in South Texas that’ll you get to see the backbone of nWo. Hall, Nash and X-Pac will be there. I’ll be there. Robbie E will be there. Tessmacher will be there. But just for the fact that Hall, Nash and X-Pac are there, you should go.

Bruno Sammartino Interview: Appearing In Upcoming WWE Game & At Live Events

1

WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino spoke to CBS Philly about his WWE Hall of Fame induction and says WWE is planning to feature him in an upcoming video game:

“I have to thank the WWE and Paul [Triple H] for that [his Hall of Fame induction,” Bruno said. “The [WWE] has a video game featuring me down the road, and they will ask me to make appearances here and there. That’s in their plans. I think it certainly would be fun to return to the cities I headlined one time.”

At this time, there’s no word on whether Sammartino will be one of the 8 remaining unannounced characters in WWE 2K14, but it seems logical.

He added that he’s especially looking forward to appearing in Philadelphia, close to where he lives in Pittsburgh.

“I would love to come back to Philadelphia. I say this sincerely, Philadelphia was one of my great towns. I love Philadelphia—and I used to go to Philadelphia every two weeks. I miss Philadelphia, and Philadelphia was always very flattering to me. I hope I can come back to Philadelphia.”

Update On Ric Flair/WWE Situation, New Steve Austin Show, Total Divas Rating

19

-Apparently the specific reasons Ric Flair had heat with WWE management stemming from the already infamous WWE2K14 symposium is because he blatantly buried Daniel Bryan, talked about wrestlers drinking too much and brought up TNA at a WWE event.

-Episode 39 of the “Steve Austin Show” podcast has been posted online. Fans can listen to the latest edition of the show, which features TNA Impact Wrestling star Samoa Joe, at PodcastOne.com.

-Episode four of WWE Total Divas, which aired at the same time the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view was going on, drew 1.35 million viewers. The figure marks a drop of 19 percent from the previous week, and the first time the numbers for the show have dipped since its’ premiere.

From there, somebody reportedly blind-sided Del Rio over the head with a bottle, and things escalated from there.

WWE Dominates Searches, Howard Stern Mocks Darren Young, Eric The Midget/Roode

42

-The number one overall most searched for item in the United States this past Sunday was “WWE.” On Saturday, the number one overall search in the U.S. was “UFC.” For those keeping track, more people searched for “WWE” on Sunday than “UFC” on Saturday.

-Mainstream coverage of the Darren Young situation continues, as the Howard Stern Show spent some time discussing it on their radio show this past Monday morning. Stern and his crew mainly took the opportunity to mock wrestling, noting it’s the perfect job for a homosexual because they are “half naked, oiled up guys who roll around on the ground together.”

-Speaking of the Stern show, on both Monday and Tuesday’s show, one of their “Wack Pack” characters, Eric The Midget (aka Eric The Actor) has been in somewhat of a “feud” with TNA Impact Wrestling star Bobby Roode. Roode has cut multiple promos on Eric, noting he’d like to beat his ass for being a miserable grump. He challenged Eric to come to Bound For Glory so he can kick his ass.

On what fans can expect out of his new book: “There’s a 3rd book coming out. It’s not a romance novel or anything like that, just a continuation of my last book, Undisputed, in 2007.”

On if he prefers music or wrestling: “I don’t have to choose. I’ve been in a position with my career where I’ve been able to do both. All I ever wanted when I was a kid was to be a wrestler and a rock star, and I’ve been fortunate enough to do both.”

Backstage Reaction To The Finish Of The Main Event At WWE SummerSlam

42

Regarding the conclusion to the main event at SummerSlam, many backstage within WWE felt it was a fantastic way to finish the match. Others disagreed, feeling that Daniel Bryan should have won clean and have his moment. The general consensus is with that type of finish, Bryan is continued to fill the “underdog” position in the company, which they feel gives the fans a chance to really rally behind him even more as he continues his chase.

In addition to that, many felt it was somewhat awkward that Bryan wouldn’t kick out of the pin attempt by Randy Orton, considering how much time had passed between Triple H’s pedigree and Orton’s actual pin.

A few people also pointed out how ridiculous it is that a somewhat retired in-ring competitor such as Triple H, would have such a devastating finishing move that it basically out-did annything John Cena attempted in the match, in terms of getting the pinfall on Bryan.
