The Miz Talks WrestleMania 29, Working With Ric Flair, His Main Event Push & More

6

WWE superstar The Miz appeared on the  Busted Open satellite radio show this week. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Perception That He’s the ‘Reality TV Guy’: “I think now more than ever, especially with Flair being in my corner and kind of mentoring me, I think now I have the biggest microscope on me because it’s like, wait a second, this guy is still an outsider. I still consider myself an outsider.

“It’s not that I haven’t gotten over it. I feel like the fans haven’t yet, as in, the older fans. The kids, sure. The kids have gotten over it. They don’t even know that I was on the Real World. They know me as Miz from WWE. But I feel like guys your age probably, still, no matter what, will always have that chip on their shoulder about me, no matter what. I mean, when I was main eventing Wrestlemania I guarantee everyone was like, ‘well why is this guy doing it, why is The Miz getting these opportunities’?

“Any time a superstar is main eventing Wrestlemania, if you’re not jealous, mad, angry that you’re not in that spot, then there’s something wrong with you and you shouldn’t be in WWE.

Main-Eventing Wrestlemania 27: “My take on that Wrestlemania was I was getting an opportunity of a lifetime. I was getting my childhood dream. I wanted to be that guy in the main event of Wrestlemania and I was getting that opportunity. Was I nervous? Was I scared that I was going to fail? Absolutely. I think anyone in that position would be. But I was also very confident in myself, knowing me, I will work harder than anybody, I will do whatever it takes to be successful in this industry and make sure that people say, ‘you know what? That was awesome.’ And I don’t remember my Wrestlemania moment because I was concussed. I got tackled off of a table onto the concrete and I don’t remember anything, I do remember being victorious, but the moment that I will always have with me is this moment. And right before I was coming out, they did this amazing video package of just my entire career, of people telling me that I wasn’t going to make it. It was just an incredible video. I do my entrance, I get into the ring, I hold the WWE Championship up, then Cena’s entrance happens. During that entrance, I’m black, nobody’s seeing me, nobody’s looking at me, I see my ten best friends sitting in the front row. The friends that I watched in my living room, Wrestlemania after Wrestlemania, all watching me in the main event with my WWE championship and me looking at them and going, ‘we did it.’ That is my moment. No one will ever be able to take that away from me and that was what it was all about.”

Whether His Main Event Push Came Too Soon: “I don’t think it was too soon at all. I think I was hot right then and there. I was at my pinnacle, if you will, and it all came to point when I won the WWE Championship and retained it at Wrestlemania. But do I ever think I’ll be it again? Absolutely. Every year I’m working hard to basically be in that position and sometimes you get it and other times you don’t. It’s timing, it’s luck, it’s skill. So many things get involved to being in that main event. You have to peak at the perfect time, and sometimes you’re not peaking at the right time. Sometimes you’re peaking when mania isn’t around. But that’s when you want to peak. You’re training for it, you’re dieting, you’re working hard in the ring. Every time we go out there on Monday Night Raw, I’m thinking of new ways that I can possibly get this audience to either love me or hate me. It’s so hard. But the thing is; you love it. Because you want people like you guys, on Busted Open radio, talking about it the next day. Whether it’s good or bad, I don’t care, as long as you’re talking about me, so be it.

Doing Commentary Work: “I always look at myself as I’m a bumbler. My mind works way faster than my mouth does. You might not realize it, a lot of people don’t realize it, but I’ll be like, ‘man, I bumbled that word.’ When you’re on commentary, I didn’t realize how hard it was until I did the 3-hour Raw with Michael Cole and I didn’t realize how valuable a commentator Michael Cole is. Let me tell you something, being there, seeing him go play by play and telling the stories, every story that he has to know in and out, and just going and going, its incredible to watch him and be a partner with him. I didn’t ask for the job on Main Event. Do you know how I got this job? So, I did that 3-hour Raw, and the next week Main Event was starting. They were like, ‘well, the guy that we want to do it won’t be there this week, can you try it out?’ And I was like, ‘sure, no problem.’ So, I did it. The next week comes, ‘he’s still not here, he’ still doing a charity event, can you do it again?’ ‘Sure, no problem.’ Did it. The next week Michael Cole goes to me, ‘congratulations, you got the job.’ And I went, ‘what? I didn’t realize I was auditioning for the job.’”

Being A Babyface But Not Changing His Character: “I have Google Alerts; anytime someone talks about me on the internet I get the feed, so I’m always reading up and people saying things. My favorite is this, and people on the internet have been saying this for about a year now, ‘Miz needs to change to babyface; he needs to be a good guy; he’s the same character as a bad guy; he’s saying the same things.’ So then I change to a good guy and now guess what they’re saying? ‘He needs to go back to being a bad guy.’ The thing about it is, I’ve always looked at myself as a good guy. Even when people proclaim me as a villain I’ve always said, ‘you know what? I’m not a bad guy. The reason why I do the things that I do is because I want to win and I know I’m not bigger, I’m probably not as technical as some people, but I will cheat to win. I will do whatever I possibly can do to win,’ and now I’m still that same exact person and I’m still cocky and arrogant but now I feel like I’m their cocky and arrogant person. And I’m doing it to people that they hate even more than me, which I didn’t even know that could be possible.”

Working with Ric Flair: “Ric Flair has been very, very hands on with me since day one. Ric Flair has always been person that I’ve looked up to, that I’ve respected in this business. He’s done it all. He always takes me aside and says, ‘listen, here’s an easier way to get into the figure 4, here’s a way to make it work better for you,’ and the greatest thing about Ric Flair is he still wants me to be me. He doesn’t want me to say, ‘the Ric Flair Woo, I’m going to Woo. Ric Flair does struts, I’m going to strut.’ He’s like, ‘be your own superstar. This is what worked for me. What is going to work for you as a WWE superstar?’ That’s something that I’ve taken and really put out there. I’m going to be The Miz and I’m going to do things the way Miz would do.”

His Role at Wrestlemania 29: “I am excited to see Wrestlemania 29 April 7 at MetLife Stadium as well and I’m hoping that I am a valuable part. If they do give me the opportunity to have a match or to have a MizTV or to have anything on that show, I want to be the person that’s talked about the next day on Monday Night Raw. Granted, there’s huge, huge talent there. You have The Rock versus John Cena for the WWE Championship. Swagger versus Alberto Del Rio, who are amazing talents, going for the World Heavyweight Championship. As of right now, this card is building to be one of the biggest cards you will ever see and it’s going to be absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to be a part of it and I know I will be a part of it because I’m just too big not be.”

WWE Interested In Bringing Back Former Divas, David Otunga Promotes “The Call”

57

– Monday’s Raw saw the return of The Bella Twins to WWE, who appeared in a backstage segment with Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow and Kaitlyn. The twin duo had been in contract negotiations with officials from the sports-entertainment organization for approximately two months, with offers triggered by the feeling of lacking depth among the Divas ranks and talent in developmental not being ready to be promoted. Contract offers have also been made to Maryse Ouellet and the former Kelly Kelly, Barbie Blank. Both starlets rejected the company’s overtures, but are believed to still be in negotiations.

  • Discussion – What former Divas should WWE bring back? Comment below.

– Promoting Friday’s theater release of WWE Studios’ The Call starring Halle Berry, David Otunga spoke to Arda Ocal of The Baltimore Sun. The WWE Superstar, who plays young gun police officer Jake Devans in the flick, discussed Berry’s sense of humor, loving acting, whether he wants to continue acting, initial impressions from the locker room concerning his Harvard Law degree, head honcho Vince McMahon “hating lawyers,” and more. Regarding his experience filming the movie, Otunga states:

“We shot for a little under two months. The days were great, you get there and they just call you in when you have to do a scene so you get a lot of down time. But you’re in a trailer for a long time, your scenes are laid out for you so you know your lines already, which is a new thing going in for me. In WWE we’re sometimes handed something at the last minute, like ‘here you go to pages’ or ‘oh we’re changing our minds,’ so with this we had the scenes for months. I was comfortable so when it was time to do our scenes they would come and take you to set, we’d knock it out and when you were done you got to go home. It’s easy.”

Kurt Angle Talks About Where TNA Will Be In 5 Years, Retirement & More

16

TNA star Kurt Angle was recently interviewed by ChicagoNow.com to promote Thursday’s live edition of Impact Wrestling from the Windy City. Here are some highlights of what Angle said about:

Where TNA Will Be In 5 Years: It continues to grow no doubt worldwide. We are on the road for good and we are taking little steps to improve the overall product. I believe in 5 years if things are done right we could be competing with the monster (WWE). They have amazing programming and Vince McMahon has done wonders for his product. I have been in Impact Wrestling for 7 years and I thought by now we would be up in the ratings. I believe that’s going to take a little more time.

Retirement: I might be involved in some way but not in the ring. I might have a part time schedule where I do some selected shows, which I can handle. If I decide to do that I won’t announce my retirement. But I’m going to give TNA the next 3 years of my absolute best and see what happens.

He also spoke about the International Olympic Committee’s decision to pull wrestling from the 2020 Olympic games, the Attitude Era and more.

WrestleMania Retrospective – WrestleMania V (1989)

3

Here’s Part 5 of our WrestleMania Retrospective series, looking back at past WrestleMania events as we march towards WrestleMania 29 on April 7th.

WrestleMania V (1989)WrestleManiaV-Poster

Tagline: The Mega Powers Explode!
Date: March 27, 1988
Venue: Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, NJ
Attendance: 18,946
America The Beautiful: WWF Women’s Champion Rockin’ Robin

For the only time in WrestleMania History, WrestleMania IV and V were held at the same venue. Future WWE Hall Of Farmer Donald Trump stated in media outlets, that after the first WrestleMania was such a success, he had to have it again at Atlantic City.  Although the event was promoted as being at the Trump Plaza, it was in fact held in the adjacent Boardwalk Hall.

The main feud heading into WrestleMania was between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, with the two battling over the WWF Championship.
Hogan and Savage first crossed paths on the October 3, 1987 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Savage got a shot at The Honky Tonk Man’s Intercontinental Championship but was attacked by the Hart Foundation; Hogan came to Savage’s rescue, thus solidifying Savage’s face turn.

At WrestleMania IV in March 1988, Savage defeated Ted DiBiase in a tournament final to win the vacant WWF Championship with help from Hogan and Hogan soon after came into the ring to congratulate Savage. Soon after, the duo formed a tag team known as The Mega Powers. They feuded with many heel tag teams throughout the entire year and were a successful team.

Mega Powers ruled and dominated the WWF for several months. However, their domination and tag team began to breakup in early 1989 as tensions slowly began to build between the two.

This all began on the January 7, 1989 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, when Hogan was mercilessly beaten by The Twin Towers after his match with Akeem.

Savage came out and cleared the ring with a steel chair. Elizabeth took Hogan to the backstage which angered Savage. He thought that he was a third wheel and this was the beginning of the breakup of Mega Powers as Savage was angry that why his wife Miss Elizabeth was used by Hogan as his manager. He confronted her about the issue but she took Hogan to the backstage.

Problems increased further in the Royal Rumble match where Hogan accidentally eliminated Savage as he was trying to eliminate Bad News Brown.

On February 3 at The Main Event, Hogan and Savage faced The Twin Towers (Akeem and The Big Boss Man) in a tag team match that would set up the Mega Powers’ breakup. During a key point in the match, Savage was thrown out of the ring onto Elizabeth, knocking her unconscious. Hogan carried her to the back, leaving Savage to fend for himself in the ring against the much larger Akeem and Big Bossman;

Hogan eventually returned, but Savage slapped him in the face and took the belt in his hand and turned heel by abandoning Hogan.

Despite this, Hogan managed to pick up the win. After the match, Savage explained his frustrations to hogan and eventually attacked Hogan in the medical area of the arena.

Hogan would later challenge Savage to a match for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania, which Savage accepted.

The second main feud heading into WrestleMania was between Rick Rude and The Ultimate Warrior over the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Rude and Warrior were booked to face each other in a “Super Posedown” at Royal Rumble in January 1989. The winner had to be decided by a fan reaction, where Warrior won the posedown. After the posedown, a furious and angry Rude attacked Warrior. This led to a feud between the two and an Intercontinental title match at WrestleMania.

Elijah Burke talks About His Pope Character Originating In WWE, His Time In TNA, Hogan & Bischoff

4

Kayfabe Wrestling Radio
Hosted by Alan Wojcik
Listen Live on Tuesday Nights 9pm ET on Wildtalkradio.com

Former WWE, ECW and TNA star and in his first public interview since his departure from TNA “The Pope” Elijah Burke joined Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Tuesday Night. In a nearly 45 minute interview, he discussed his ‘Pope’ character in WWE and what it almost was, what he’d do to the Pope Mobile if elected by the cardinals, how the Pope character came about in TNA, the person he had the most fun in ring with, what he thought of Bischoff and Hogan coming into TNA, his appearances on Ghost Hunters and in Django Unchained and The Dark Knight Rises, his amateur boxing career and if any of that made its way into the ring, performing at WrestleMania within his first two years in the business and much more.

Listen To Elijah Burke On Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Here (.MP3)

Here are some highlights of what Elijah Burke said about:

How the Pope character was planned to have looked like in WWE: “That’s why the Pope in TNA looked the way it did. When the Pope idea originally surfaced in the WWE, that’s what they wanted; you know, the plan was to have the Pope in a big hat and a staff and all that other stuff but much like with everything in today’s world, you have to modernize it and you can’t stay where you once were. You just kind of have to move forward, you kind of have to tweak things and that’s what I wanted to do with the Pope character; I wanted to make it something different and something unique. I didn’t want to come out in a big hat and I didn’t want to come out with a staff. But Daddy, if the Pope was selected today to be the official bishop of Rome, then a lot of things would change and the first thing I’d do to the Popemobile is put some spinners on it, put some tinted windows on there and put two chicks on each side of me.”

Who creatively came up with the character of ‘The Pope’ in TNA: “Everything that you saw about the Pope, and notice I said the Pope and not D’Angelo Dinero; everything you saw about the Pope was Elijah Burke. It was Elijah Burke turned up, it was something I wanted to bring to the table during my last days with the WWE and it just didn’t pan out so when I got into TNA and we had our creative talks and whatnot, they were going to debut me as Elijah Burke. They were going to bring me in under my regular name of Elijah Burke and I told Russo ‘Hey Russo, I want to do… here’s my Pope character and if you guys like it, it’s what I want to do’. So, basically it was me and Russo and I showed Russo this 5-minute vignette that I can’t for the life of me figure out what I did with it, maybe they kept it. But I did that; I showed Russo, he went into the office, came back out and was like ‘Holy crap, bro, I’m telling you; forget Elijah Burke. You have to do this character. You have to do it; I already have the perfect name for it: D’Angelo Dinero, Money man. Cause that’s what the Pope is, Money.’ And that’s what we went with.”

Who he enjoyed working with the best in TNA: “The most fun I had in the ring in TNA was with AJ Styles. But, on a scientific wrestling level, I loved working with Wolfie (Nigel McGuinness aka Desmond Wolfe in TNA); I call him Wolfie. By Desmond was very unique and so I really did enjoy working with him, and personally and professionally I just enjoyed him; we didn’t have much time outside of the ring together or anything like that but, man, when I found out that I was working him, it was essentially a night. It was fun and it was a learning experience because he was so crafty and his background and what he did; where he came from and his unique wrestling ability, and bringing in the English style, it was something I didn’t get a lot of coming up in this business. I didn’t work a lot of people who had that style, so for me to blend in my in-your-face boxing style, you know the brawling/boxing style with what he does; it was great. I enjoyed it. I was sad when his time was up; I thought me and him should have had a lot more great matches and feuds, but that didn’t happen. But I enjoyed the time I had with him.”

His feelings of Hogan and Bischoff coming into TNA: “Well, you don’t have to use other folks to explain my comments because I’m going to give you what I feel regardless. I do think Bischoff and Hogan coming into the company did what it was supposed to do, and that was to, whether it was negative or positive, it was to bring more attention to the product and when you look at the overall issue, the underlying issue and overall factor, the matter is they did just that. If people are talking about TNA, and regardless of how negatively they talk about the company or how positively they talk about it, they’re still talking about it and in order to bash, and I’m not with TNA so I could care less about trying to be political, but in order to bash TNA, you have to watch TNA. So, as long as you are watching, I guess that’s all that really matters. I mean, people complain all the time; People complain about Monday Night RAW all the time, but guess what, in order to complain they have to watch. SO, as long as you’re watching, Vince McMahon will say ‘I’m going to feed you what you want and you’re going to like it.’ And he said that on TV, and guess what; people keep coming back. So, it is what it is on that issue.”

His WrestleMania match with the New Breed vs the ECW Originals: “I remember the match, obviously, I can’t forget it because it was my first WrestleMania appearance; I did appear at WrestleMania 24, but that was in the battle royale they happened to put on the pre-show and I believe that was going to be a part of the pay per view itself, to have the winner face the (ECW) Champion, which was Chavo Guerrero at the time. But I hate to say that match doesn’t matter, work wise the match means a lot because it was WrestleMania nut we didn’t get a chance to do what we wanted to do or even have time to do anything with 8 guys. But it’s the match that happened on ECW following WrestleMania, on ECW’s telecast, where we had the Extreme Rules match, you know the Old School vs the New Breed. It’s that match that I think all of us are really, really proud of, everybody that participated in that match. I mean, that was when Sabu took the head first through the table from the Elijah Express and tore his neck up. But I think that’s the match we are all proud of because we were able to go out, and it was the main event, and truly work the way we wanted to at WrestleMania. So, we were very proud of that, I think. I know I am.

But for all of us to make it on WrestleMania, we’re extremely proud of that because it’s a milestone and it’s everyone’s goal, well it should be everyone’s goal in this business, to appear or be a part of WrestleMania. I don’t care who you are, if you haven’t made a WrestleMania, you haven’t really lived as a wrestler; that’s the ultimate goal.”

Why John Cena Wasn’t At RAW, Backstage Resentment Towards The Rock

82

Conspicuously absent from Monday’s WWE RAW were WrestleMania 29 main event challengers The Rock and John Cena. While The Rock had a previous commitment to be overseas in South Korea promoting his new “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” film, WWE officials made the decision to also keep John Cena off the show, feeling that his presence would bring more attention to the WWE Champion not being there.

Instead of John Cena coming out and cutting a promo that The Rock could not respond to in person, the decision was made to air a video package hyping their match.

Even through The Rock is doing everything he can to appear at as many WWE TV shows as possible, there are people in the locker room who are not happy that the WWE Champion will be missing 2 of the 4 final RW shows before WrestleMania. There has been resentment that a “part time” wrestler is WWE Champion and is taking one of the top spots at the company’s biggest show of the year. Him not being there to fully promote the even is not helping matters.

Jim Ross Blog: Punk Interrupting Paul Bearer Tribute, Cena’s Divorce, Shield

8

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Paul Bearer Tribute On RAW: For those complaining about the usage of Paul Bearer’s image less than a week after his sudden passing last Tuesday at the age of 58, I suggest that they relax. I’m guessing that I knew Percy better than most complaining within the internet wrestling community and I can say without hesitation that he would have loved how his TV persona was honored notwithstanding how he contributed to one more storyline leading into WrestleMania.

CM Punk Actions on RAW: Punk interrupting the final moments of the opening Paul Bearer tribute was villainy 101. As a matter of fact, I felt like Punk had more antagonist angst when Raw was going off the air than he did when he first arrived on the scene in the first segment of the show. The idea is to motivate fans to pay to see the villain get his ass handed to him and if that theory is accurate then WWE succeeded in regards to the Taker-Punk ‘Streak’ match at WM29.

Bryan vs. Ziggler: Add @WWEDanielBryan vs. @HEELZiggler to my list of ‘Best of Seven’ candidates. They had one helluva wrestling match on RAW Monday night. I’d expect both men to travel in different circles post WrestleMania as in faster circles or so I hope.

The Shield: Proud of The Shield guys after having seen them evolve and develop in NXT even though some will either hit me on our Q&A’s or on Twitter @JRsBBQ that both Rollins and Ambrose were ready for prime time upon leaving ROH. I have a different opinion on that matter and I think that the talents themselves would concur. That’s no knock on ROH who I am pulling for in a big way to be successful.

WWE Referencing John Cena’s Divorce: WWE utilizing John Cena’s divorce in the WWE Title video package surprised me. However, it made perfect sense and is an issue that most people can relate to in some fashion. It also helps realistically explain Cena’s own self proclaimed downward spiral in 2012.

Kofi Kingston Talks About Rock vs. Cena 2, Paul Bearer’s Passing, Adrian Neville

2

WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston was recently did some media work in the UK to promote next month’s overseas Wrestlemania Revenge tour. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Who He Thinks Will Win At WM29 Between The Rock &  John Cena: “For me, I always grew up as a Rock fan, I had his poster on my wall in college. He’s just so captivating in the ring, and for me as a fan it’s great to see him back. It’s crazy to see him as WWE champion – I feel like I’m a kid again, watching, and I’m doing it from the absolute best seat in the house.

“But… John Cena is our workhorse. How can I root against John Cena? It’s so hard because I was such a Rock fan growing up and I’m still a Rock fan but in terms of paving the way for me while I’m here John Cena has been everything. He’s on every single live event and does all this media, he does a whole bunch of appearances with kids… Not that Rock doesn’t do all of that, but again for me right now on the roster, it’s very hard to root against the guy that I see do so much.”

British NXT Star Adrian Neville (Formerly PAC): “I’ve always heard so much about him. I knew of him before he got signed with WWE. But to see him in person, he’s very, very impressive. He does some incredible things – and that’s coming from me! He does a lot of superhero-esque things – he’s almost like a cartoon character with his flips. He makes it look so, so easy. Once he makes his debut on WWE television, I think a lot of people will really be in for a treat.”

William “Paul Bearer” Moody’s passing: “It’s hit home for a lot of people because he was just a very, very good person. A lot of us got the chance to know him when he was on the main roster recently with Edge and Kane and that whole story that they had going on. What a presence. Even with him and the Undertaker back in the day for the old school fans, you can’t imagine the Undertaker without Paul Bearer. He made the Undertaker and really added to that whole persona and tied it all together.

“He was a very special individual… In terms of his persona backstage, he was somebody that everyone always listened to, he was always trying to make people laugh and smile. A very genuine and good person. He will definitely be missed by all of the WWE superstars.”

Triple H To Answer Heyman & Lesnar On RAW, Wade Barrett Talks WM29

25

– Triple H announced on Twitter that he will be on RAW next week to respond to Paul Heyman’s challenge, where Triple H has to agree to fight Brock Lesnar without knowing what the match stipulations will be.

– The ToledoFreePress has an interview up with Wade Barrett. Here’s what he said about the buzz in the WWE locker room surrounding WrestleMania 29 – and not having a match yet on the show:

“It’s pretty tense, actually,” Barrett said, describing the WWE locker room. “Especially for me, because I obviously missed last year’s WrestleMania because of the injury I got just beforehand. Everyone’s looking at the card, it’s really starting to take shape — I think we’ve got two or three matches that are kind of set for WrestleMania — and everyone’s looking at that card and thinking, ‘I’ve got to get myself on there pretty quickly,’ because unfortunately, there are limited spaces on the WrestleMania card. It’s not like everyone is going to get on there.”

Vince Very Hands-On At RAW, More On Writer’s Departure, Batista-Miz Movies

19

– Following last week’s departure of creative team member Eric Pankowski, Vince McMahon was reportedly much more hands-on producing and scripting this week’s RAW.

While there were a few factors that led to Pankowski’s release, the straw that broke the camel’s back was his decision to book last week’s Fatal 4 Way match between Punk, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show to determine The Undertaker’s WrestleMania 29 opponent.

Several people reportedly told him that it was a bad idea – but he went through with it anyways. Vince McMahon did ultimately sign off on that match, but that could have been his way of letting Pankowski’s work speak for itself.

– During a recent interview with IndyStar.com to promote “The Marine 3”, The Miz revealed that his next movie role will be “The Christmas Bounty.” The film begins filming in April and is due out this winter.

– Several movie news sites are reporting that former WWE Superstar Batista is still being considered for a major role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” superhero movie that comes out in August 2014.

JBL Unable To Reach The Top Of Mount Death Due to Bad Weather

1

WWE announcer JBL tweeted the following update about his attempt to climb Argentina’s Mount Aconcagua (“Mt. Death”):

JBL noted he will try again next year and posted this YouTube video:

He also wrote the following about the experience at LayfieldReport.com:

“Remarkably, Ian and a couple from Canada (a married couple-both Doctors-who had competed in ironmen races and marathons), Drs. Jason and Carolyn, made the summit in that weather in almost 20 hours of climbing-being much faster than me, I would have been at least 25 hours and maybe as much as 30-which means I would not have made it down. I’ve been around some great athletes and these young guys were as hardy and tough as any I have ever seen, very proud of them-and all great people to be around. The guys who made it talked of stepping close to one of the dead bodies to get to the summit. No one else made it or even came close.”
