Mickie James Talks About TNA’s Downsizing, Kharma, Her Music & More

5

This past weekend TNA Knockouts Champion Mickie James took on Gutcheck finalist Nikki Storm at Pro-Wrestling Elite in Scotland. The full interview can be downloaded here. After the show, The Big WrestleShark Show interviewed the mutli-time womens champion. Some of the highlights can be found below.

Downsizing of the Knockouts Division: “Aside from it being awesome because I’m the champion? Yeah it has gone through a little bit, but the company as a whole is going through a bit of a change right now. It’s always very sad to see your friends and colleagues go, it’s kind of bitter sweet because you know you’re going to run into each other somewhere down the road. Just because they were such a staple of the locker-room for so long and to still be so over, with so much left to offer so to see them go…I just hope…although you always know it means there’s going to be a bit of change and some new faces will perhaps start coming in, I just hope those fresh faces can hold a candle to the girls they are replacing. Those are some rather large shoes to fill.”

Anyone she would like to see return: “I’m open to whoever wants to come back. It would be really cool to have Kharma back in TNA; I think it would be cool to see Gail vs Kharma round two but with the roles reversed. Also I’ve never had a chance to work with Kharma and I would love to, so I think that would be really cool. There is so much talent out there that deserves to get a shot, that deserves to be seen. Most of the girls that are there, I’ll say most not all, came from humble beginnings and trained and worked their way up the indy’s to make a name for themselves, a respected name and finally caught an amazing break. There are so many girls out there that are just like that, so hopefully this is an opportunity for them to step up.”

What is left for her to accomplish: “I’m constantly raising the bar for myself: I wanna go down in history as one of the best of all time. I know there are tons of women out there who are probably as great, if not better than me. You know I have been very blessed, very fortunate to be able to do a lot and work with some amazing people. I mean, you don’t want to come off like this…character wise, performance wise on TV I’m the best in the world, I’m the best of the century. And I can confidently say that I’ve had some incredible storylines, to work with some of the best in the world to be able to leave the legacy that, I could, leave today, but there is so much more I want to accomplish. Just because you’re the best doesn’t mean you can’t get better.”

Who would you still like to wrestle: “I always say Serena. She’s one of the girls who reminds me so much of myself, I had kind of taken her under my wing a long time ago and to just see how far she’s grown on her own, and I just feel that when she was in the public eye and really getting a mainstream push she never had a chance to show how great she was and better than pretty much everybody in the ring. She’s one of the best I’ve ever stepped in the ring with, she’s technically solid, it’s ridiculous, I’ve seen her outwrestle some of the guys! So to see that level of talent go un-noticed is a sad thing. Hopefully I’d like to see her be able to shine. It’s hard to find someone who has it all… like myself.”

The release of her second album: “It’s been pretty amazing. The response from the fans and from my colleagues, my friends, from legit music reviewers across the board is so positive and so uplifting.”

Comparisons between the life of a musician and the life of a wrestler: “They run very parallel I think. I’m used to being on the road. It’s very hard work, you go from radio station to radio station trying to get them to play your music, it’s a lot like when I would go from show to show all up and down the East Coast trying to work, hoping to have a match, hoping to get that shot. But we’re starting to get more tour dates under the books, so we’re going to be out performing more. I’m excited, it’s like a new journey. I mean…it’s like I’ve done everything I kinda wanna do in wrestling, obviously I want to keep raising the bar and there are still some things I want to accomplish, but music is like I’m starting from square one. I’m building it up the same way I built my wrestling career, hopefully the same kind of magic will happen.”

Whether her wrestling fame has been an advantage: “It has definitely been an advantage at some points. It’s a catch 22, obviously you want to be taken seriously as an artist but being fortunate enough to have had the career I had in wrestling has paved the way for so much in terms of opening a lot of doors, and people I’ve met, and been fortunate enough to work with and write with. However, on the other hand you have the stigma of ‘oh, it’s that girl who wrestles’. So obviously that’s where people know you from, but in the music world I want people to know me from my music and respect it over the wrestling in that aspect. My fans, I love them, they just seem to love me as a performer in both worlds and seem to accept that it is two separate worlds.”

If she would ever walk away from the ring to be a full time musician: “I would love to be a full time musician, I don’t understand why I can’t be a full time both. I think wrestling will always be a special part of my life, I love it too much to just walk away. I mean I know I can’t physically get in the ring and wrestle and compete for the rest of my life, nor would I want to. I still want to be a part of this business…I guess that’s what will figure itself out along the way.”

Jim Ross Blog: The Story Of His Career, Thoughts On NXT Talent Moving Up

3

The following are highlights from the latest online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On why he is doing a spoken word tour: “My story of how I backed into the good, old boy fraternity of pro wrestling in the 70’s by doing several, low level jobs for even lower pay, surviving the territory days, launching my broadcasting career, moving into the cable TV world of the game along with the new entity known as PPV, then navigating the corporate world of grappling first with Turner and then with WWE is a story that is unlike anyone else in the history of our business. I’ve had a blessed career and am anxious to share it with great fans.”

On fans who want to see NXT talent moved up: “My personal take on NXT talents is simply that, my opinion. There is SO much more to becoming a successful WWE Superstar than merely the ability to perform in the ring. Some fans who seemingly have no management experience and perhaps haven’t moved out of their folk’s home just yet, simply don’t get that simple, common sense philosophy. I don’t have an exact age in mind that talents should be called up to the primary WWE roster. Some people mature at different ages and some never mature and become reliable pros who strive every day, no matter the hand that they are dealt, to improve their game in ALL phases and to place the company before their own agendas.”

Ultimate Warrior Talks Ryback & CM Punk, Randy Savage Road Story

6

WWE legend The Ultimate Warrior recently spoke to the New York Daily News to promote his involvement in the new WWE 2K14 video game. Here are some highlights of what Warrior said about:

If He Watches WWE, CM Punk & Ryback:

“I know some of the characters, but I don’t watch it. I like all the guys. I guess because I don’t know anybody, I like them all.”

“You would think maybe I would go for a Ryback guy. He’s impressive. He’s a monster of a guy. I don’t go against him, but I’m indifferent. I know a little about CM Punk, in that he does his own thing. I’m inspired by people who do that in their own life. That they just do their own thing no matter what the consequences are.”

His Career Highlight:

“My match with Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VI. The buildup to that, where the business was at the time. Prior to Wrestlemania, usually they would do an angle where Hogan’s best friend would backstab him out of jealousy or envy. Cut some promos and say, “if only I had the chance for a match I could take (Hogan).” That’s how they’d set up the match.”

“But the Ultimate Warrior was becoming so popular and selling so much merchandise at the time that if they’d done that they would have slit their own wrists. So they did a match where it was the Warriors vs. the Gladiators. And then a bunch of urban legend stuff has grown out of that.”

A Memorable Road Story:

“I always loved working with Randy. He was so intense. In public, he spoke like he did in his promos. I remember one time, he came out to stay with me in Arizona. And he was there for a couple days. We went out to eat one night.”

“I said, “Randy, just do me a favor, don’t say anything. Just enjoy the food and we’ll go.” Because we were going to go to the gym after.”

“About a half-hour of being there, he said something about the food being good. It was all kinds of chatter going on, people talking. As soon as he said that to me, the whole place went absolutely totally dead silent. Everybody was leaning in their ear, trying to figure out where that voice came from. Then that was it, we were there signing autographs for the next two hours.”

Heat On Del Rio For Reportedly Giving Randy Orton A Concussion, Signed Heyman-RVD Merch

31

– Randy Orton suffered a low-grade concussion during his match against Alberto Del Rio at last week’s SmackDown taping. He’s not expected to miss any in-ring time. He is still advertised for this weekend’s live events in Georgia and next week’s tour in South Africa.

Del Rio reportedly has some heat with the WWE locker room, because Orton is not the first person he’s injured. Several people on the roster think that Del Rio is careless in the ring.

WWEShop.com is selling a new Limited Edition signed photograph of Paul Heyman and Rob Van Dam from 2006’s ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view from the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York.

MTVHive.com has an article up about 21-year-old rapper Milo, who says he’s a huge fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“Hands down, my favorite wrestler was the Rock. He was just everything to me and I loved the fact that he was kind of not really a good guy. He’s constantly the sh*t-talking character and does the good thing after sufficiently busting someone’s balls.”

Taz’s Failed Attempt To Get Back In WWE, Jerry Lawler’s Travel Woes

51

– Jerry Lawler was the butt of a lot of jokes backstage at Tuesday night’s WWE RAW TV tapings from Laredo, Texas, according to one of our sources.

After Monday’s RAW, Lawler stayed in Austin, TX overnight and then drove 3 hours the wrong direction on I-35… ending up in Dallas, not Laredo. The King had to call WWE and arrange a flight in order to make it to Laredo in time for the RAW taping.

Lawler got a lot of flack from the wrestlers and agents for now being able to make it to the right city after 40 years in the business.

– Prior to signing a new contract with TNA, Taz tried very hard to get back in WWE. Specifically, he wanted to return in time for WWE’s recent RAW taping from Brooklyn, NY. Taz called several people in WWE, but it soon became obvious that Executive Producer Kevin Dunn had no interest in bringing him back.

During a recent production meeting, WWE EVP Triple H said, “TNA doesn’t have anyone we need.”
