Update On Reported John Morrison/Melina Domestic Dispute, 50 Cent Says Boxing Could Learn From WWE

40

– Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com reported on November 18 that former WWE wrestlers John Morrison and Melina were involved in a domestic dispute the prior weekend, resulting in police being summoned to the residence they share in Los Angeles, California. He said details of the story would likely be published on TMZ.com, but ultimately, was not acknowledged. In a post on the F4WOnline.com message board Saturday, Meltzer explained why additional details regarding the incident have not been revealed.

“There was an incident reported to them (TMZ) but no police report to back it up so you can’t really go forward with the story,” wrote the Wrestling Observer editor. “Same reason I haven’t said anything. I checked with police and if they were called, there was no report.”

Since news of the incident surfaced online, Morrison has continued performing at wrestling events and comedy clubs. Perez, on the other hand, has continued to remain out of the public spotlight entirely. She last appeared at a wrestling show on October 12 in Tijuana, Mexico, accompanying Morrison for a match. She stopped tweeting a few days prior, and subsequently canceled an autograph signing she was scheduled to appear at later that month.

– Speaking to USA Today, music mogul-turned-boxing promoter 50 Cent believes the sport of professional boxing could benefit from utilizing WWE-style theatrics.

“(We should) use some of the theatrics that you see in WWE and bringing them into a sport that doesn’t have a question mark — we know boxing is real. We don’t say ‘is that real?’ like wrestling. If you add those different elements to it you can offer something that would be entertaining enough to watch the entire show,” said 50 Cent.

Details on 50 Cent’s promotion plans are available here.

WWE No Longer Working With California Independent Wrestler Who Wrote Anti-Gay Messages On Twitter

51

According to OutSports.com, WWE are distancing themselves from South California-based independent wrestler Scorpio Sky after the ten-year grappling veteran posted anti-gay messages on his Twitter account.

Sky, who appeared as “Harold” in one of Daniel Bryan and Kane’s anger management classes in August, wrote the word “faggot” on Twitter and attacked people who didn’t like it.

A wrestling fan who argued with Sky via Twitter over his use of the anti-gay slur contacted WWE about the wrestler’s language. WWE Fan Services responded: “WWE strongly believes that everyone should be treated with respect and this principle is the foundation of our anti-bullying initiative, “Be a STAR”. Mr. Andrews no longer works for WWE and we have no plans to work with him in the future.”

Sky also works with Lucha VaVOOM, and the company is not happy with his anti-gay tweets. The company stated to OutSports.com, “Please rest assured that Lucha VaVOOM does not condone this language, and further, it’s important to us specify that we do not employ the character “Scorpio Sky.” The wrestler that plays “Scorpio Sky” appears sometimes, but not under that moniker, and he does not have access to speak for Lucha VaVOOM or any of his Lucha VaVOOM characters. However, we have emailed him our grievances and await his response.”

One month prior to appearing for WWE, Sky competed in TNA Wrestling’s X Division Championship Tournament as Mason Andrews.

Bully Ray Discusses His Relationship With Brooke Hogan, TNA Reducing Pay-Per-Views, “Heel and Babyface Crap”

4

Bully Ray appeared on Busted Open with Dave LaGreca and Doug Mortman, where he addressed the passing of Buddy Roberts. The program airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on Sirius 92 and XM 208 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., visit www.Facebook.com/bustedopen for more information. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Bully Ray on his relationship with Brooke Hogan: “I’m not even sure you can call us friends, because we have only known each other for a short period of time. When the whole Aces and Eights went down and I came to Hulk, I came to Sting, I tried to help out TNA because I thought the whole situation was wrong. Hulk just kept giving me the cold shoulder. He kept telling me he didn’t trust me. Sting had to basically beg and plead with him to let me be his tag team partner. So the guy doesn’t trust me.

“He was going through a lot of stuff in his own life where maybe he wasn’t thinking straight. All Brooke did was one day she came up to me and she didn’t apologize for her father. She was just kind of like ‘listen he is under some stress lately, don’t take it too personal.’ She just tried to ease the blow for her dad and my relationship with him. So that was it. One thing lead to another and I told her ‘listen I really appreciate it you telling me that’. Next time I saw her it was hello and how you doing. We just started talking, just friendly kind of stuff. Realized, she is just a nice girl. We just started talking and that is really it. Me and Brooke play Words with Friends on Twitter.”

Does he feel any different getting cheers from the crowd: “Listen, you guys with this heel and babyface crap. I’m not a good guy, I’m not a bad guy. I’m me. I’ve had 70,000 people cheer for me in the Houston Astrodome. I’ve had 20,000 people boo me at Madison Square Garden. When they love me, they love me. When they hate me, they hate me. I let them make the decision. I’m just me. That’s what makes me special in this business. I don’t change for anybody.”

What will his focus be after Austin Aries: “As soon as I am done with Austin, I’m re-focusing on Devon, Aces and Eights, and the World Heavyweight championship. One is personal and one is business. The number one goal should be to become the World Heavyweight champion. It’s hard to stay one hundred percent focused on that when you know that your partner, brother, and friend just stuck it up your ass, that you have no choice in going after him.”

Thoughts on cutting back pay-per-views: “Love it. I think it’s an awesome idea. I think the wrestling world is entirely saturated with pay-per-views. I remember growing up as a kid and only getting those four to six pay-per-views a year which had that big time feel. Now every time you turn around there is a pay-per-view every month. I would love to see TNA go the route of doing something like the NWA did back in the day and put on almost like a free pay-per-view on Spike TV one Sunday. I don’t make those business decisions, but I think it would be great for luring new fans to our product. I’m very, very confident that once wrestling fans who have never seen TNA, if they would just get to see it once or twice, I think they would be hooked.”

Mickie James Discusses Benign Tumor Surgery, Nearly Being Called Up To WWE With CM Punk, Being An 8-Time Champion

8

Ahead of her big title match with Tara at TNA’s Final Resolution pay per view on Sunday, Mickie James joins Diva Dirt to discuss her recent comeback to the ring after a major health scare, her illustrious career in wrestling as one of the most decorated women in the sport, her latest music video featuring WWE icon Trish Stratus, her thoughts on Beth Phoenix’s retirement and much more.

Mickie also opens up to us about working with Trish in that memorable feud in 2006, working with Lita, and how she was almost paired with CM Punk on WWE television.

Listen to the interview here.

Speaking for the first time about having a benign tumor removed, she said: “It was pretty scary. I didn’t get into a whole big ordeal as far as my surgery went because it was so scary and very personal, and kind of humbling in a sense. In this industry, we’re so accustomed to fighting off pain or negating it, and working through it, sometimes we don’t take little things very seriously. Most times when we think of getting hurt or having to go to the hospital, it’s usually for to do with an injury in the ring, so for it to be for something personal and to have this mass… and thank God it was benign.”

On possibly winning her ninth major championship at Final Resolution: “It would be incredible. They always say though, if you’ve won the championship eight times, it means you’ve lost it eight times. At the same time, I can say anytime I’ve won the championship, it’s been monumental for me, for my career. The matches have been incredible. And anytime I’ve lost it, I can say the same. I’m definitely going to go into this Sunday full steam ahead with a purpose. I really want this Knockouts Championship. […] It’s often negated how much that championship means to us, because it truly means at that time, at that point, you are the best.”

“I know that Trish’s record — no one will ever capture that, winning the Women’s Championship seven times, especially now it’s retired, but hats off to her. She’s an incredible woman and athlete.”

On nearly being called up with CM Punk in WWE: “I was supposed to debut a few times [before debuting as Trish’s fan], and even debuted with Punk on Sunday Night Heat. We came back through the curtain and they’re like, ‘Uh uh, we don’t see you two together at all. No way’. And they pulled the match. It was supposed to air on Sunday Night Heat and it never aired. I was like, ‘What happened? Were we awful? What do you mean we don’t match?’ I get it now and I’m grateful… I wonder how my career would’ve been different had I actually debuted in one of those different storylines that got canned at the last minute while I was at TV.”

Bret Hart Talks About His Brother Owen & Jerry Lawler’s Heart Attack

13

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart recently spoke to The Altoona Mirror to promote appearance at tonight’s Big Time Wrestling live event in Altoona,  PA. Here are some highlights of what Bret said about:

Wrestling’s Audience Changing In The Late 90’s:

“Wrestling was everything for everyone,” Hart said. “Then it turned to concentrating on certain audiences in the late 90s when the wrestling fans were cheering bad guys, and it wasn’t any fun anymore.

“Grandpa and grandma weren’t going anymore. It wasn’t a family atmosphere. It was guys with beer guts and rednecks; they weren’t good fans. They were just there to get drunk. Not all fans were like that, but it got too rowdy for young kids. Now it’s more acceptable.”

His Brother Owen’s Tragic Death In 1999:

“After dealing with what happened with my brother Owen over the years, I’ve come to see it was a horrible accident, and I don’t think Vince McMahon would want something like that to happen. It wouldn’t be advantageous to anyone.”

“We were hurt by that, though. I don’t think my dad ever got over what happened with Owen. It had a rebound effect with my dad and Davey. I think my dad and Davey would have lived a lot longer if not for Owen dying.”

Jerry Lawler’s Recent Heart Attack:

“It was quite stricken in the locker room, and it was a horrible feeling. It reminded people of what happened with Owen. It was stressful for everyone from Vince McMahon to you name it. Jerry was fighting for his life. His heart stopped for 20 minutes, but those paramedics kept pushing on his chest and really worked hard to save him. Everyone carried on. The WWE should have been applauded for finally doing things the right way.”

Lilian Garcia Discusses Her Return To SmackDown, Mantaur Returning To The Ring Tonight, WWE In Cape Girardeau

2

– Veteran WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia makes her first appearance on SmackDown tonight after being stuck by an automobile in late October.

“I actually had butterflies in my stomach driving up to the [North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, South Carolina],” Garcia told WWE.com. “After 11 years [in WWE], you’d think this would be old hat to me, but it all feels new again.”

On October 27, 2012 in Los Angeles, California, Garcia was struck by an SUV while she was working out, resulting in head, neck and back trauma. Following a six-week recovery process, she is still undergoing physical therapy three times a week.

“It’s been overwhelming in a good way, and our fans definitely helped pull me through it” said Garcia of the support. “They were the reason I worked so hard with physical therapists and chiropractors to be able to come back.”

– WWE’s former Minotaur-like character, Mantaur, makes his return to the ring tonight for Pro Wrestling Syndicate’s “Fight Mare Before Christmas” event in Metuchen, New Jersey, at SMG Sportsplex. The former WWE star, who is generally retired from the squared circle, will face WWE Hall of Famer Tito Santana (billed as El Matador) in a Special Attraction Legends Match.

– WWE will hold a Raw live event in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at Show Me Center on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale next Friday at 10:00 a.m. via ShowMeCenter.biz.

John Cena Talks About Almost Joining The Marines Before Becoming A Wrestler

33

WWE Superstar John Cena spoke to Virginia’s HamptonRoads.com this week to promote WWE’s upcoming Tribute to the Troops special. Here are some highlights of what John Cena said:

Pro Wrestling & Patriotism Going Together:

“You know what, I don’t know. At the root of the good-vs.-evil story is what America is all about.”

Meeting Members of the Military:

“It’s kind of backwards. Every one of them wants to thank us, but we’re there to thank them. It’s a mutual respect.”

What It’s Like Performing for the Troops

“The energy is crazy. They like to get excited. We encourage them to take a night off and come to the event and be exactly the fans that they want to be.”

Almost Joining The Marines Before Getting Into Wrestling:

“I was literally about to join the Marine Corps (Officer Candidate School) when a buddy asked me if I wanted to be a wrestler. I thought I would literally last two weeks in there and the Marines would always be there.”

MAILBAG: Should Undertaker “Pass The Torch” at Mania?

48

SEScoops Mailbag for December 7th

(please submit YOUR questions to [email protected]) or follow @solomonster on Twitter and submit them that way!

Q: I’ve always wondered this, but thought about it recently after noticing it on episodes of “The Monday Night War” on WWE on Demand. During almost every WCW event, you can witness fans throwing trash in the ring – cups, paper, flyers, etc. Even hitting the wrestlers. It was virtually every Monday. With the exception of the Montreal Screwjob and maybe a handful of times over the last 2 decades, you never see this in WWE. Wrestling fans are wrestling fans. In your opinion, why the difference? Was security just that much tighter at WWE events? – Nolan C. Gray, Johnson City, TN

A: It just became the cool thing to do when the nWo was out there. I know Scott Hall hated it. And who could blame him? I’m not aware of WCW ever threatening ejection or prosecution for throwing debris, so this went on for quite some time. It also had to do with the younger fans you had in the crowd at a time when wrestling was very hot. WWE really didn’t have anything like it at the time. And they have always been more forceful about kicking people out for stuff like that. These days, you never see that sort of thing, both because they have good enforcement, but moreso because you have a very different audience when you look out into those crowds. Lots of parents with their children and not nearly as many teenagers and college students.

Q: How relevant do you think the Undertaker’s undefeated streak really is in the current and future WWE scene? I mean, I know it’s a big deal and yes he’s done if for many years, but don’t you agree that since he’s obviously at the end of his career, it makes sense for him to “pass the torch” to someone else like Brock Lesnar or CM Punk, making them a much bigger star by being able to say they’ve done something no one else in the business has ever been able to do. Do you see any realistic likelihood of Taker ever losing at WrestleMania, and considering the top players in the business now, who do you think are good opponents for him at Mania in his final year(s)? – Travis

A: I don’t understand this notion of “passing the torch” to someone who is already established, as though Brock Lesnar and CM Punk need to beat Undertaker at WrestleMania to solidify their place in history. They’ve done very well on their own. They’re already main event players and future Hall of Famers. What do they really gain from this? If Undertaker had a young name handpicked to beat him, then I would respect that decision, even though I think it’s the wrong move for business. The Streak has become an important selling point for Mania. It would be foolish to mess with that. I do think Lesnar would make a good opponent for him, but the best choice would be John Cena.

Q: Do you think The Rock will really retire from WWE after he wins the title one last time in 2013? Providing that happens, of course. – Glenn Danford

A: If he wins the title, I certainly hope he doesn’t retire! Then the title would have to be vacated. But if you mean after he wins and loses it, then no. There’s no reason for Rock to retire. If he still has fun wrestling and can still be a draw the way he was at last year’s WrestleMania, there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t return for a match here and there.

Q: With the change to the TLC main event, I was wondering what PPV’s you are aware of that didn’t have a WWE or World championship defense on the card, but had a payment-worthy main event that made up for it? – Lee from Manchester, England

A: Badd Blood 1997 is probably the best example. While Bret Hart was the champion and wrestled in a tag team flag match, Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had a pretty memorable main event inside Hell in a Cell. That more than made up for it.

Q: Would more pyro like Batista, Edge, and Kane [are known to have] wake up the crowd and actually affect the fans’ interest in the matches? With my experience at live events, the pyro always got my [attention] and I would be into what was going on. If you had to pick one superstar on the roster who should have pyro, who would it be? – Shane from Fort Lauderdale, FL

A: You can’t “scare” people into caring about a particular match. You need to give people a reason to care. Loud pyro won’t make people care any more or any less for someone, say, like Tensai. Dropping the Japanese crap and letting him speak more would be a nice start. The same can be said for others on the roster.

Q: Who do you think would win [in a dream match between] John Cena and The Ultimate Warrior? Do you think it would be a good WrestleMania match if Vince McMahon let him come back? – Jesse Wagstaff, Morehead City, NC

A: It would have some value as an attraction for Mania, but the show would still do better business with Rock vs. Cena. As for who wins, it doesn’t really matter. Either way, the fans lose.

Keep those questions coming to [email protected] and remember to include your name!

Ric Flair Talks About His Favorite In-Ring Moment, His Daughter Training At NXT & More

5

WrestleNewz.com has published Part 2 of their exclusive interview with Ric Flair. Flair talks about a WWE return, his daughter being in WWE developmental and lots more. Here are some highlights:

His favorite moment in the ring:
“The greatest moment in my life was wrestling Shawn Michaels for my retirement. No lie about that. But he carried me in that match. The little smart-ass actually told me to keep my mouth shut in the ring and follow him! (laughs). I didn’t do shit.”

His daughter, WWE developmental Diva Charlotte:
“She’s doing fabulous. She’s in Tampa right now training and she’s doing incredible. She is literally unbelievable.”

Did he try to talk her out of joining WWE?
“No, no, I wanted her to do it! She came to WrestleMania with me in Miami, when I got my second Hall of Fame ring with the Four Horsemen, and she just fell in love with the whole scenario.

Is he teaching her to be the dirtiest Diva in the game?
“No, But I’m just trying to make her understand that it’s a very intense business. It is. Everybody takes care of themselves in that business. I mean, don’t misunderstand me: Vince takes care of people. Vince takes care of everybody. But it’s a very competitive business once you’re in the door.”

Flair also discusses his new girlfriend, his #1 goal for a WWE return and how his daughter fits in, plus more. The full interview can be read at WrestleNewz.com.
