CM Punk’s Historic WWE Title Reign, Edge’s Neck Surgery & More

– WWE CFO George Barrios is featured in Forefront Magazine and named his parents and Vince McMahon as his role models. He stated that Vince behaves “as if every day is the first day on the job.”

– WWE Champion CM Punk is quickly approaching the 1-year mark for his title reign. If CM Punk is able to keep the title past November 26th, he will surpass Randy Savage’s 371 day title reign (1988-1989). If he can remain champion past December 5th, he will surpass John Cena’s 380 day title rein – making him the longest reigning WWE Champion since Hulk Hogan’s 1984-1988 reign.

JBL Tells A Backstage Story Of His First Push Being Killed By A Bad Referee Call

10

WWE announcer JBL has posted a new blog entry at Facebook.com with a backstage story from his first WWE Survivor Series back in 1996. JBL competed in a traditional team elimination match on the “Free For All” pre-show and was eliminated from the match earlier than he was supposed to be due to a botched call from referee Tim White.

JBL wrote on Tuesday:

“My first Survivor Series my team was to go over and it was to be my first big push. It was one of first times refs used ear pieces, or at least, different ear pieces. So, I do a ‘false finish’ and Tim White counts me out! I had kicked out on ‘2,’ but Tim was listening to someone in his ear and wasn’t paying attention. He looked up and said, ‘Oh my God, kid, I am so sorry,’ but then had to pantomine he was sending me out of ring.”

“I got to the back and was chewed out, I couldn’t stooge Tim so I just took it-later they realized Tim made a mistake and told me they were sorry. It was my pal Gerald Brisco that had chewed me out as he ran ‘Gorilla’ back then. My push was killed and pretty much so was ‘Justin Hawk Bradshaw,’ but that is a different story-which I’ll tell later. I thought about this today as I was reading some tweets from folks about Survivor Series.”

Here’s a video clip of the spot JBL is talking about. The botched call takes place around the 10:45 mark – and you can hear Vince McMahon and Jim Ross caught off guard by the early elimination of “Justin Hawk Bradshaw” –

Video of Linda McMahon’s Concesson Speech

As noted earlier, Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy defeated Republican Linda McMahon in Connecticut’s U.S. Senate race. The Associated Press called the race for Murphy just 30 minutes after the polls closed, as he was leading 54% to 45%.

The former WWE CEO spent $50 million of her personal fortune in her failed 2010 campaign against Richard Blumenthal, and she is believed to have spent about as much against Murphy.

Between both campaigns, McMahon has now spent over $90 million in pursuit of federal office, more than any American in history.

McMahon has announced that she will not run for office in 2014.

Here is a video of her conceding after losing to Chris Murphy:

WWE Modifies The Spelling Of “Fandangoo”, NBA Reporter Pokes Fun At Linda McMahon’s U.S. Senate Loss

16

– As seen during Monday’s Raw broadcast, WWE aired a vignette teasing the debut of a new Superstar called “Fandangoo.” During tonight’s SuperSmackDown LIVE broadcast on Syfy, WWE aired a similar vignette, but with the spelling of the character’s name modified to “Fandango.” It is a term that originally described a style of folk and flamenco music and dance.

Here is the vignette, which also features a song different from the one used in the first video.

– In light of former WWE CEO Linda McMahon’s loss tonight to Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy in Connecticut’s U.S. Senate race, David Aldridge, a sports reporter for Turner Sports (most notably, the NBA), took the opportunity to poke fun at her defeat with a wrestling reference.

He tweeted, “The Senate election in Connecticut is not over,” said state director of voting Earl Hebner. #Montreal.”

Gail Kim Interview – Says TNA Is A Better Fit For Her Than WWE, Working With Rookies, More

11

Promoting her return to Canada this Friday at TNA’s live event in Windsor, Ontario, Gail Kim spoke to SLAM! Wrestling on a number of topics, including her desire to compete more than she had in WWE.

“(TNA) has really focused on women’s wrestling in a different manner than WWE, and I just enjoy it more here,” Kim says of the differences between both leagues. “I’ve experienced both major promotions twice now, and I can honestly say that TNA is a better fit for me.”

Now after wrestling for thirteen years, Kim finds herself working with girls who don’t have nearly as much experience as her, such as Miss Tessmacher. She says she’s enjoys working with the greenhorns as much as the veterans.

“I love both aspects of it—working with girls that have been doing it for ten years-plus like Mickie James and Tara, and with those who are looking forward towards the future,” said Kim. “And I enjoy being able to help some of the more inexperienced girls that I can help—I remember my first match back was a tag match with Brooke Tessmacher; she didn’t really know that much in the ring back then, but she has come so far in the past year.”

Kim says that while becoming the first TNA Women’s Knockouts Champion is one of her favorite moments of her career, she feels more accomplished with her pro-women’s wrestling cause.

“If you think about the whole picture, the thing that makes me most proud is fighting for that women’s division and it actually happening,” said Kim. “It wasn’t overnight, it took a lot of begging and pleading to wrestle. For that to happen, and for it to become successful, that was a dream come true.”

Kim also remarks on being named the top women’s wrestler of 2012 by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, her marriage to celebrity chef Robert Irvine (the two met on Irvine’s TV show Dinner: Impossible), and more. The full article is available here.

WWE Diva Publicly Endorses Linda McMahon For U.S. Senate – Could She Get In Trouble?

9

WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia posted a message on Twitter today encouraging her followers living in Connecticut to vote for Linda McMahon as U.S. Senator.

Some of the Diva’s followers have speculated that she could get in trouble with WWE for publicly showing support for McMahon after Brian Jossie, who portrayed A.W., claimed in an August interview with Connecticut’s The Day that he was released from his contract with the sports-entertainment organization because he encouraged his followers to vote for her.

Upon being informed of his termination, Jossie said he received a phone call from Jane Geddes, Vice President of Talent Relations, telling him he committed a major faux pas with his pro-Linda tweet.

“For some reason they don’t want to associate her with anything to do with wrestling because it’s in the past,” Jossie said. “Vince (McMahon) doesn’t want any association with her campaign. They told me it’s two totally different entities, which I didn’t know. I thought I was doing a good thing.”

WWE, however, rejected Jossie’s claims in the article, attributing his release to poor judgment on live television and social media. Spokesperson Brian Finn stated, “WWE is a non-partisan organization. Superstars as well as employees are free to support any political party or candidate they choose. Unfortunately, Brian Jossie, playing the character of A.W., was terminated because he continued to exhibit poor judgment by making offensive and inappropriate comments on live television and on social media.”

– Promoting his tour this month of the U.K., Chris Jericho spoke to Glasgow radio station Radio Caley (@RadioCaley) and presenter Colin Stone (@Colin__Stone) where he discussed Fozzy’s new album “Sin & Bones,” whether he’ll return to WWE (13.08) and his matches this year with Dolph Ziggler (14.57). In a follow-up, the account indicated Sunday that Swagger asked for his release.”

– On this week’s “Backstage Fallout” for Raw, Antonio Cesaro, The Prime Time Players, Team Co-Bro’s and the Uso brothers discuss happenings from the program.

Jerry Lawler Returns to RAW Next Week, Maddox Gets A Shot At $1 Million & Video Of His Finisher

34

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler will make his return to commentary on next week’s WWE RAW from Columbus, Ohio. There has been some talk of WWE keeping Jim Ross on board to call RAW along with Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler, but that’s not confirmed yet.

Next week’s RAW will also feature Ryback vs. suspended WWE referee Brad Maddox, with Vince McMahon awarding Maddox a $1 million contract if he can defeat Ryback.

Speaking of Maddox, WWE.com’s Matt Striker caught up with referee Rod Zapata at RAW and asked him about the controversy of Maddox costing Ryback his match with CM Punk at WWE’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

Zapata called Maddox a “piece of garbage” and doesn’t believe Maddox when he says he acted alone in costing Ryback his WWE title match.

How Dolph Ziggler Should Cash In MITB, Steven Seagal Talks About Acting With Steve Austin

33

– WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s latest action movie, “Maximum Conviction,” is out today on DVD & Blu-ray. Austin’s co-star, actor Steven Seagal, recently spoke to Crave Online about how the movie came together:

“Well, somebody said just take a look at this script, and this story, and I liked it. They said Steve wants to do it, and I met him and liked him, and thought that we could be a good kind of team together. That’s sort of how it turned out. We had good chemistry together, and I thought it worked out great.”

– Washington Redskins player Adam Carriker and Chuck Carroll, hosts of the 4th & Pain radio show, have given their suggestions of how Dolph Ziggler should cash in his Money in the Bank contract. In an effort to come across as a serious contender and a worthy champion, Carriker says Ziggler should announce his title match in advance instead of spontaneously challenging a beaten-up champion. Carroll disagreed and says he likes when a MITB briefcase holder cashes in immediately after a title change – and thinks Ziggler should go after the World Heavyweight championship.

Comment Below and tell us how YOU think Dolph Ziggler should cash in his MITB contract & which title he should go for.

CM Punk Interview: Dream Matches, Tag Teams, Advice He’d Give, Injuries & Retirement

7

WWE Champion CM Punk recently took part in an interview panel at Comic-Con in Austin, Texas. Here are some highlights of what Punk said about:

What Former WWE Superstar He Wishes He Could Have Wrestled: “I wish I could have been in the ring with Shawn Michaels. I tagged with him a lot, but I never got to actually wrestle with him which sucked. Shawn — he’s close to here, right? In San Antonio? Right, well, Shawn needs to come out of retirement so I have something to do. I get bored, you know? Oh, and that other guy Steve Austin. Whatever his deal is.”

Dream Matchecs He Wishes He Could Have Seen: “I don’t know, I mean, I’m a wrestling fan. I like all sorts of stuff. My fandom doesn’t just exist within the WWE Universe. I know it’s happened a lot but I would have liked to have seen it in person, a Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Harley Race match or something like that.

“You can do fantasy warfare where you take someone like Harley in their prime vs. a Samoa Joe in his prime. I think that would be pretty cool. There’s a billion — I mean, selfishly, I would say me vs. Shawn Michaels or that other guy Steve Austin, whatever his deal is. [Laughs.] But, that’s a good question. I’ll probably be thinking about that all night now. Thank you.”

If A Weak Tag Team Division Hurts Young Talent: “Does it hurt them? Maybe.Tag team wrestling used to be an attraction just because it was something different. That is the biggest way you learn in this business. When I had Serena with me — actually, we’ll use AJ as an example. AJ wants to have her gear on and she wants to be in the ring every day. And that’ll come, I mean, she’s like 16-years-old or whatever she is. I tell her all the time, number one, this isn’t going to last forever but she’s got a good head on her shoulders. I think she’s got a pretty bright future.

“So, the stuff she’s doing now or the stuff she was doing when she was at ring side and invovled in matches with Daniel Bryan and I’ll throw my name in that hat, too. Sounds a little egotistical. But, you learn more just standing there and then I would take her into the back and I would explain things to her.

“When I had Serena, I could communicate to her without even saying anything. I would look at her and she would know various things to do. So, when you’re out there and our young guys are on the apron, I would like to think they’re paying attention. I mentioned I was tagging with Shawn Michaels, I was a spunge. I just sat there and I watched and then when I got tagged in, I went in and did whatever the hell I did but I was paying attention to everything. That’s how you learn so you are right in that aspect.

“It hurts a little bit but it’s the world we live in now. It’s not like wrestling world is going to cease to exist because of it. But it is something I wish we’d see more of.”

What’s Been The Hardest Part About His Career: “When you operate at a very high level which — contrary to what probably a lot of people may think — I do, I mean, I’m on TV every Monday, I’m wrestling Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Tuesdays and all this stuff. I think at times it’s hard to top yourself. That’s why moments are special. I can’t go out there and do a 2011 C.M. Punk/John Cena Money In The Bank match every night because the circumstances are always different.

“But I think that when you have a moment like that or you have that Las Vegas promo, people always want that. So, when you always fall short of that, either now you suck or you only have one good thing in your career. You see what I’m trying to say? It’s hard to always operate at that level.

“Conversely, if I went out there and I did always do that and it was always ridiculous and crazy, those moments wouldn’t mean anything. It would all be the same. The hardest thing is just keeping my finger on the pulse of what you guys want and going out there every Monday and trying not to be stagnant. Putting a little bit of a spin on everything and making it fresh, interesting and different. I mean, that’s difficult.”

Advice He Would Give To Somebody Wanting To Enter The Business: “Just get in the business. I know that sounds kind of condescending, but that’s what I did. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a wrestling school where you had to go and get trained. So, when I started, to me, it was like starting a band with me a couple of friends. ‘OK, I’ll play bass, you play drums, you sing, somebody will play guitar,’ and you do that.

“For us, it was, ‘Let’s wrestle. OK, now we need a ring, let’s build one. Now we need to buy one,’ and so on and so forth. I did that and I drew the ire — did everybody see my DVD? Well, I pissed off a lot of people because there was this wrestling sub-culture in Chicago and they were all like ‘you’re a bunch of backyarders.’ I was like, ‘Well, what do you mean? What’s wrong with that?’ ‘You’ve got to get trained!’ I was like, ‘Oh, OK,’ and I went in and got trained.

“To me, it was like no harm, no foul. That’s what you’ve got to do.”

If He Has Input On His Merchandise And His Most/Least Favorite T-Shirts: “Yeah and maybe you’ll hear different but you have 100% creative control. I mean, you’re not going to be like, ‘Put a big middle finger on my shirt,’ and they’ll be like, ‘Alright.’ But, the way it happens is that they’ll come to you and say, ‘It’s time for anew t-shirt Punk.’ ‘OK, let’s do it.’

“They’ll come to me with four designs and I’ll be like, ‘Ehh, no. This one is OK.’ For instance, I wanted a bright yellow shirt, I wanted it to be the most obnoxious thing. So, when somebody is wearing it, you can see it. Olus, with me being a bad guy now, I’m kind of weird and on the fence about even having merchandise now. But, I figured if I mad it super ugly, the little kids wouldn’t want to wear it. But, obviously, I got control and you can tell by that shirt. That one was all me.”

“My most favorite shirt? Probably The Ramones shirt because I actually had to call up Marky and he gave me my blessing. That one was cool. I mean, they’re all cool to me for different reasons. Seeing the taped up ‘x’, that’s wild to me because being a straight edge kid and being such a small percentage of the general population. Then, having straight edge stuff plastered all over the place is pretty crazy to see.”

Dealing With Injuries & Retirement “Yeah, I think most famously, I fractured my skull ten years ago. That sucked. I had surgery on my elbow a couple of years ago. That made me never want to have surgery ever again which also made me think about people that have elective surgery and how stupid they are because surgery sucks. I wouldn’t say I’m 100% by any means, but I’m not broken down and beat up to a point where I need multiple surgeries.

“And that’s why a lot of the time you hear me say, ‘Yeah, I want to retire,’ because I do. I don’t want to be one of those guys that’s having multiple surgeries and still doing this. That’s not fun. That’s not fun for anybody, you know what I mean? I’m beat up and a lot of the time my elbow still sucks. [My left one] does and I separated my AC joint in my shoulder and I never got that fixed. So, that’s always there. Both knees aren’t what they used to be but it could always be a lot worse.”
