Iron Fists Box Office Numbers, Batista Talks Wrestling vs. Acting, WWE-Egypt

2

– Egyptian website TheNational.AE has an article up looking at WWE’s recent tour of the country. Senior Vice President and Managing Director of WWE International Ed Wells is optimistic about WWE’s expansion into the Middle East:

“WWE’s programming in the Middle East, and Egypt in particular, has very strong audience figures and we have seen steady growth of the popularity of the brand in these markets in the past 12 months.”

– Batista’s new movie “The Man With The Iron Fists” drew approximately $8.22 million at the box office during its opening weekend, finishing in fourth place (behind Wreck It Ralph, Flight and Argo). This is considered to be on par with what Universal Pictures was expecting, but it’s on the lower end of what comparable movies have done in their opening weekends. For more on the weekend box office numbers, visit BoxOfficeMojo.com.

During a recent interview with Collider.com, Batista explained the differences between acting and wrestling:

“For me, it’s funny because I tell actors it’s so intimidating for me to be on this little intimate set, with the cameras pointed at you. Somebody says ‘action’ and all eyes are on you and you have to follow a certain script. Acting is harder. It’s more intimidating. When you’re out in front of so many people, it’s just so conversational. It’s easy, and it’s something I could do at any given moment.”

RVD Talks About ECW’s Final Days, His Age, His Marijuana Arrest Ending His Push In WWE

38

Extreme Pro Wrestling Radio with Rob Van Dam
Airs on 100.3 FM KFAN in Minneapolis
Hosts: Big D, Crisco, and Tim
Available at Facebook.com/Extremeprowrestlingradio.

Rob Van Dam called into Extreme Pro Wrestling Radio on 100.3 FM The Fan in Minneapolis and spoke about how holding out and staying in ECW in it’s last years developed him, how physically he hasn’t changed, how he would change the X-Division, and if marijuana use has kept him from being the poster boy of the different organizations he’s been with.

How staying in ECW in it’s last few years helped develop RVD into what he is today: “… WWE didn’t want RVD to get over when I was there. They tried so much to… to… not get me… to…to… keep me from that. They didn’t understand why the fans liked me because I don’t fit the cookie cutter formula because I am a non-conformist. I’m so confusing to wrestling promoters, and I’m used to that, but because I stayed in ECW and learned how to express myself the way, ah, that I could connect with my fans, it made my strong Rob Van Dam character uncompromising… and I owe that to ECW. If I would have left and went to WCW way back then, they were gonna make me… they were gonna put a mask on me and make me one of those Glacier characters… ”

On whether age has affected his physical condition and does he have to stop doing some moves because of it: “Not even in the slightest… not even a little bit. … as a matter of fact, every once in a while, I’ll pull out a move because I haven’t done it in awhile. I was wrestling Jeff Hardy, I think this was, like, two months ago, I went up to the top rope and I went, ‘you know what, I don’t think I’ve done a 450 splash in like 10 years’. Boom… I just bust it out… I haven’t cut anything out, and if it was up to me, ah, I would change that X-Division Title into hardcore rules and I would have 20 minute matches every night, bouncing off the guardrail, bring in a chair… and hell yeah, that’s what I got to show still!”

On whether being “420 friendly” has kept him from being “the man” everywhere he has been: “I would think, ah, with TNA, probably not so, because they, they usually like to make those references, ah, whenever they can. And I think they appreciate the extra, ah, the extra cool attention that it gets them. Obviously, my… high profile bust, when I got pulled over in Ohio with possession of 18 grams, uh, and..and… resulted in suspension and loss of the titles… I mean, there is no way in denying that that definitely knocked me off from the track that I was on. At the same time, I don’t mind going down in history for that or drawing attention to a cause that I believe is worthy…”

Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton Feud Planned, WWE Teases Superstar Has Been Suspended

14

– With Big Show and Sheamus currently feuding over the SmackDown brand’s World Heavyweight Championship, WWE creative is already looking ahead to future feuds over the “big gold belt.”

Dolph Ziggler is waiting in the wings to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase and will do so at Survivor Series or shortly after. Ziggler is then expected to feud with Randy Orton over the title, a program that WWE is planning to run through the early part of 2012.

Ziggler and Orton had a short feud earlier this year, but that was cut short when Orton was suspended for 60 days due to his second violation of the company Wellness Policy.

– It appears that WWE superstar Hunico has been suspended. On the October 24th edition of WWE NXT, commentator William Regal made some cryptic comments about the Mexican wrestler during a match between Brodus Clay and Camacho. When Camacho came out without Hunico, Regal said:

“Camacho is usually out here with his partner Hunico, but Hunico’s not here and I’m not allowed to say why. He’s in a little trouble, and he got into a little extra curricular activities and causing a bit of grief to people, and he’s not gonna be with us for awhile let’s put it that way.”

Here is a video clip of Regal calling out Hunico for his “curricular activities” –

Survivor Series News: John Cena’s Likely Opponent

19

With only two more weeks until WWE Survivor Series, only two matches have been announced for the fall classic pay-per-view.

Jim Ross Remembers The Late Brad Armstrong

7

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a blog at JRsBarBQ.com remembering the late Brad Armstrong, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 51. JR noted that he’s called hundreds of Brad Armstrong matches over the years. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote:

“Being the son of a wrestling star, especially a territorial, wrestling star, Brad knew the complexities of ‘getting over’ in a territory and what every promoter sought…reliability, consistency, in ring talent, and being low maintenance. Brad was all those things and more.”

“Behind the scenes, Brad Armstrong was one of the funniest, most personable men I’ve ever met in the business. He could light up any locker room and seemingly got a long with everyone. If someone had an issue with Brad Armstrong, they really needed to take a long look into a mirror. ”

“One of the greatest things someone in our business can say of any wrestler is that said wrestler could have a good match with anyone, no matter who. Brad Armstrong certainly fits on a rather short list of wrestlers that could literally have a good match with anyone.”

“Rest in peace to one of the most underrated, all time greats ever in the business and condolences to his wonderful family and to Brad’s many friends.”
