Video: DDP & Jake Roberts Invite Scott Hall To Join The Accountability Crib

35

Following up on the news that Scott Hall will be joining Jake Roberts at Diamond Dallas Page’s “Accountability Crib” in hopes of getting his life back on track, DDP has posted a video to YouTube showing how the whole thing went down.

DDP got a text from Sean Waltman saying that their friend Scott Hall is in trouble and is possibly contemplating suicide. The text read, “Scott sounding not good at all. He’s talking about getting a gun.”

DDP decided that he was going to reach out to Hall via phone call and had Jake Roberts join in on the conversation. They called Hall and he answered the phone sounding very disoriented. “What? What?” DDP and Jake identified themselves and after realizing who they were, Hall said he feels like he’s dying. He said several times, “I’m dying. I’m dying.” and told them he was drinking vodka for ‘breakfast’ and that’s all he had consumed so far that day.

DDP and Jake told Scott to come stay with them. Scott could not believe when Jake told him that he had been clean for 60 days. Scott said he doesn’t want to die accepted the offer to visit the house in Atlanta.

In what looks to be an encouraging sign, Scott Hall said he felt like their phone call was a “spiritual awakening,” as if God was talking to him. Here’s the video:

Take-Two To Acquire WWE Video Game License From THQ

14

According to Bloomberg News, Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. will acquired the WWE video game license from the bankrupt THQ Inc.

THQ’s contracts with WWE and Yuke’s Co., a Japanese- based game-developer that was helping THQ produce the WWE video games, will be terminated and the companies will be allowed to enter into new agreements with Take-Two.

According to court documents file this week, Take-Two will agree to hire several THQ’s employees that worked on WWE games and WWE will drop its pre-bankruptcy claim against THQ for $45 million, which was for annual royalty advances that ran through 2017. THQ will pay WWE $650,000 in royalty payments for WWE games that were sold while under bankruptcy protection.

Elimination Chamber News: Talk Of A Second Chamber Match

20

WWE.com published an article this week that once again states that Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will feature two Elimination Chamber matches. Currently, only the SmackDown brand’s Elimination Chamber match has been announced. Here is the excerpt:

“With two Elimination Chamber Matches slated for this Sunday, Feb. 17, who’s to say what horror awaits the 12 Superstars when they enter Satan’s Prison?”

Earlier this week, Ryback tweeted that justice would be served to The Shield inside the Elimination Chamber. However, there has still been no official announcement made about a second Chamber match, aside from 1 line on the 11th page of an article on WWE.com.

Chris Jericho Interview: Pro Wrestling At The Olympics, His Upcoming Schedule

2

WWE superstar Chris Jericho was interviewed by the Miami Herald this week about his new Robot Combat League show, which premieres Tuesday, Feb. 26th on Syfy. During the interview, Jericho spoke at length about how he juggles his roles as pro wrestler, rock star and TV host. Here are some highlights of what Jericho said about:

Robot Combat League: “Whenever you hear about a show featuring 8-foot tall fighting robots controlled by humans, it’s definitely going to peak your interest … The thing about the show is that when you hear about the idea you think, ‘Yeah, this seems kind of cool,’” Jericho said. “Then you really see it like when I first saw how these robots move, how big they really are and fast they punch, it really blew my mind.”

* Pictures of CHRIS JERICHO & The Robot Combat League Robots

His Current WWE Run & Upcoming Schedule: “I have been feeling great,” Jericho said. “I feel like all the matches that I’ve been having are the best matches on the show or close to it. This is especially true the last couple of weeks working with guys like Daniel Bryan. I really like doing other things too.

“Fozzy has been doing great. We are getting ready to go to Australia and then I will come back to WWE after that. The Robot Combat League is a big opportunity. I’ve always considered myself an entertainer more than just a wrestler or just an actor or just a musician. I think it’s very beneficial to do all these other things, but still be able to come back to WWE for good chunks of time or spurts.”

Pro Wrestling at the Olympics: “Think about it, pro wrestling as an Olympic sport would be pretty cool. Look at figure skating or gymnastics, what is it? It’s a choreographed performance that is judged. It’s whoever puts on the best performance. Why can’t you do that with different countries like a Canadian team, an American team and a German team go in there. Then whoever puts on the best match according to the judges wins. You take two of the best American workers in a match against each other and get scored by the judges. It’s the exact same thing as figures skating, so why not?”

Paul Heyman Picks His 5-Star Match Of The Week, WM29 Ticket Sales

18

– Paul Heyman has picked this week’s WWE Classics Five-Star Match of the Week and selected Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock for the Undisputed WWE Championship from SummerSlam 2002 as his pick. The match saw Lesnar defeat Rock to win his first WWE title and become the youngest WWE Champion in history, up until that point. Here’s what Heyman told WWE.com about the match:

“First of all, I disagree with the designation that it’s The Rock vs. Brock. It is Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock. Brock deserves top billing. And he deserves top billing because he won the match. [Brock] did not win the match with outside interference. In fact, The Rock hit me with a Rock Bottom through a table. I was not an equation. Brock Lesnar defeated The Rock cleanly to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. And in doing so, he put his boot on the neck of The Attitude Era and anointed himself the new reigning monarch of the WWE Universe.”

– WrestleMania 29 tickets are selling very well, although the event has not yet sold out, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. WWE has already grossed around $11 million from ticket sales and the final gate is expected to top $12 million by the time the show sells out.

WWE Stars Speak To Sports Illustrated About Olympics Dropping Wrestling

7

Following this week’s announcement by the International Olympic Committee that wrestling will no longer be an Olympic sport starting at the 2020 summer games, Sport Illustrated caught up with several WWE superstars to get their reactions to the news. Here are some highlights of what the following WWE superstars said:

Cody Rhodes “I’m very disappointed with the fact that they’re even considering it. This is freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. This has a rich tradition in the Olympics. I don’t even want to disparage some of the sports that they’re keeping, you just don’t do away with wrestling.”

Dolph Ziggler: “It’s hitting close to home more than usual. I know it’s not 100 percent yet but there are so many Olympic events, it’s unfortunate they’ve chosen a legitimate sport and one of the original sports ever. It’s mind-blowing that it’s even on the chopping block.”

Jack Swagger: “[Wrestling] teaches you so much about life and that’s what makes it the best sport. It teaches you discipline and dedication and how to work hard and how to sacrifice for your goals. Those are things you can apply to any area of your life, whether it’s your education or your career. Honestly, it turned me into a man.”

Newly signed WWE developmental star El Generico made his first appearance for WWE NXT at Wednesday night’s live event from Orlando, Florida.

While Generico did not wrestle, he did make an appearance during Brodus Clay’s match against Conor O’Brien. After Clay defeated O’Brien, Generico joined Clay and NXT Diva Anya as the 3 danced in the ring.

After much speculation as to whether Generico would be keeping his “masked luchador” gimmick that he made famous on the indy scene, we can confirm that he appeared as his beloved El Generico character, with his standard black and red mask, cape and black trunks.

WWE Says They Will No Longer Pay For Sunny’s Rehab

22

Earlier this week a video was released of WWE Hall of Famer Sunny talking about her recent stints in jail and rehab. Sunny had some negative things to say about WWE, despite the fact that they sent her to an expensive drug rehabilitation facility.

Sunny accused WWE of sending her to a nice facility simply because Linda McMahon was running for Senate at the time – and then sending her to a rundown dump facility as soon as Linda’s Senate campaign was over. She was particularly upset because the company kept sending Scott Hall to expensive, high-end rehab facilities. She says that when she brought this to their attention, they told her, “You’re not Scott Hall.”

WWE issued a statement to CagesideSeats.com this week and have now publicly stated that they will no longer fund rehab for Sunny. Here is their statement:

“As part of the Former Talent Rehabilitation Program, WWE has sent Ms. Sytch to rehabilitation numerous times, with all costs covered by WWE. Unfortunately, Ms. Sytch has continued to make poor personal choices and is ultimately responsible for the consequences of these decisions. WWE has always provided rehabilitation at a certified treatment center; however, given Ms. Sytch’s inability to change her lifestyle and successfully complete treatment, WWE will no longer fund her rehabilitation.”

Former WWE Writer Calls Vince A Genius & Says He Already Has Plans For WrestleMania 30

55

Former WWE Writer Matt McCarthy was interviewed by Jeff Rubin of the Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show and spoke about the creative process behind booking pro wrestling, what makes a match memorable, the hardest part of working in the WWE, and what it’s like to have Vince McMahon as your boss.

McCarthy said he heard from members of the current writing team that last year, Vince McMahon already had an idea of what he wanted to do for WrestleMania 30.

“I’m sure Vince knows what he would want to at WrestleMania 50 whether he’s around to see it or not,” McCarthy said. “From the writers standpoint, we try desperately to write out as far as out we can, and try to stick it as much as we can, and God knows the wrestlers would want us to. But, it’s the nature of what that show is and what that business is that makes it very, very difficult.”

He explained that WWE’s creative staff always has a longterm plan, but things get changed around on a weekly basis and it’s often hard to arrive at the original destination.

“You try to map out an entire grid of they’re going to fight here this week, then next week this is going to happen, and that’s going to lead to a PPV match. But, after the PPV, this is going to happen and that is going to happen (sigh), and it always changes every week,” McCarthy said. “You try really, really hard – it’s almost like predicting the weather. The further out it is, the less likely you’re going to be right that it’s going to happen.”

McCarthy called Vince McMahon a “genius” at several times during the interview, with one of his biggest talents being his ability to manipulate live crowds.

“It’s a small, simple little thing, but as a performer, it completely blew my mind,” McCarthy said. “The bad guy was just beating up the good guy in the ring for this tag match and I hear Vince scream into the headset, ‘Somebody put on a hold! Somebody put a hold on ’em! These people are dead!’ And I’m like, ‘What is he talking about?’ Then, immediately, the bad guy puts the good guy in the headlock and they’re just down on the mat. Like clockwork, the audience starts clapping and cheering; they’re rooting for the good guy to get out of this hold.

“This guy (McMahon) is just sitting back here watching this on TV and he is genius at working the audience and getting them to do exactly what he wants them to do.”

It’s a great interview and definitely worth going out of your way to listen to. JeffRubinJeffRubinShow.com.

Mark Henry On The Locker Room’s Reaction To The Rock, Retirement, His Dream Opponent

9

WWE superstar Mark Henry was interviewed Power 92.3 in Little Rock, Arkansas to promote Tuesday’s Smackdown tapings. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The WWE Locker Room’s Reaction To The Rock:

“Rock is a great talent, but nobody’s taking pictures and asking for autographs. He’s a wonderful talent, he’s one of us, we respect him [and] he respects what we do. We just go about it and try to take advantage of the situation. He’s one of those that’s recognizable in many realms, and we appreciate him for coming back and still loving what we do and doing what he calls home.”

When He Plans On Retiring From WWE:

“When I retire there’s a lot of stuff I’m gonna do. [Right now] It’s all about wrestling, it’s all about performing, doing what I do best. [It’s about] extending my legacy and making it to when I look back I can’t say I didn’t do enough, I didn’t put in my due diligence… I’m enjoying it and reaping the benefits from it as well, but there’s gonna come a time when the wheels on the bus are gonna stop rolling.”

Another World Title Run & Sunday’s Elimination Chamber Match:

“I see one. I don’t think that there’s any question. No guy in there [Elimination Chamber] is gonna beat me. That’s just the way it is.”

Who He Would Wrestle If He Could Face Anybody From Any Era:

“I would have loved to have faced Andre The Giant or Hulk Hogan. Maybe Ernie Ladd… Gorgeous George. It’s a few guys that I go back and I look at their legacies and they never faced nobody like me. It’s not only a challenge for them, but it’s a challenge for me. I would have to put aside that I idolized them and do what I have to do.”

Tommy Dreamer Talks About His First Time Working MSG & WrestleMania

3

ECW original Tommy Dreamer was interviewed by Kayfabe Wrestling Radio this week. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His first WWF/WWWF event in the New York Area and seeing the “Superfly” moment: “I’m not that old, for the three W’s; come on I’m not that old. No it was the WWF when I went. I’ll actually be 42 tomorrow; tomorrow’s my birthday, thank you. I started watching wrestling when I was 9 years old and my father took me to my first event at the County Center for my birthday; I saw Bob Backlund, he was my favorite and the first wrestler I ever saw. Then, he snubbed me and I went on a long, long tirade of me hating Bob Backlund when he snubbed me for an autograph but we have since made up then. Me, Bubba (Dudley), Mick Foley and I want to say I know Paul Heyman was there, he was shooting ringside; we were all at the show where Jimmy Snuka first climbed to the top of the cage and missed the dive on Bob Backlund and we were all there, it was just us fans and Buibba and I always talk about that. We always talk about special (Madison Square) Garden events that we went to, you know, and no matter what, you still gotta be a fan and that’s what I am. I’m still living my dream and I’m happy to be doing it.”

What it was like to work Madison Square Garden for the first time: “It was a dream come true for me. My first time there, at Madison Square Garden was against Perry Saturn, some I wrestled a bunch of time before and I know this is hard to believe for a lot of my fans, but I actually got a little teary-eyed and I got emotional; it’s still real to me dammit, and it was really, really great. The best two minutes of my career was when I worked the Royal Rumble in Madison Square Garden and I was in the ring with the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and a bunch of other guys and for two minutes, people just kept chanting my name; I was eliminated in two minutes, but it was the greatest two minutes of my life. I love myself and Rob Van Dam main eventing on Monday Night Raw there, when we unified the Intercontinental and the ECW Title; I cried in the back as well. I cry a lot as you know in my career, and I love this business and I never thought I would achieve my dream and I was really, really happy for those events.”

His WrestleMania experience and the match of ECW against the New Blood: “It was really, really food. I did it with my friends and my family was there, it was a really great experience. Never thought we were all going to make it to WrestleMania but we did. I was at WrestleMania 1 as a kid, so, I mean, it was really, really cool. There’s a lot behind that match going in, and at one point we were actually scrapped from the card. So, I think they did a Diva’s Playboy match, and we had done a test run in Mexico the week before and the match was so good that we were main eventing all the shows in Mexico and then when we got back from Mexico, the match was supposed to be 12 minutes, then it was supposed to be 10 minutes, then 8 minutes, then it was cut from the show, then we had 6 minutes. So, just the fact that it happened with all the behind the scenes BS was a great accomplishment for all of us.”

Bruno Sammartino Talks WWE HOF, His Relationship With Vince McMahon & More

3

Future WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino spoke to Donald Wood from Bleacher Report and Ring Rust Radio this week. You can listen to the full show at Blogtalkradio.com. Here are some highlights of what Bruno said about:

Q. You’re going into the WWE Hall of fame this year. What took you so long to accept the honor?

A. After I retired, I spent a quarter of a century in the business, and when I retired and a new regime took over, Vince McMahon Jr. and that, and in the beginning I went back to help out. I color commentated with him, but then I started to see things that were disturbing to me. I saw the steroid use in wrestling that became kind of rampant and I saw the changes in wrestling itself with some nudity and some vulgarity going on with different things that they were doing. And the profanity was so much. That bothered the heck out of me, and it bothered me so much that I became very outspoken about it. I hated to see the business that I spent 25 years in take that direction. That’s what really started it all.

When it came to the Hall of Fame, I’ve been very critical of the direction they’ve taken and I’d feel like a hypocrite if I just accepted this Hall of Fame while I’m so against what they’re doing. So all these years have gone by and I have refused every time, but now what happened is that I found out doctor Joseph Maroon, whom I happen to know personally, he’s a world-renowned neurosurgeon—in fact, he’s operated on me three times—but his reputation is awesome. When I found out he took on that challenge to clean up the drug situation there was over there, that made me feel good.

Time went by, and I was contacted by the WWE, which was Paul Levesque—better known as Triple H—when he contacted me, I was curious, wasn’t convinced, but after awhile he started telling me about not only about the drug program and how strict they were, but he started talking about how they were making it more family friendly by doing away with the nudity and vulgarity and the profanity and all that.

About six or seven weeks ago, I started watching it because I had my doubts, to be honest. Meanwhile, Paul kept calling me and talking to me more and more about the whole business and the direction they wanted to go in and so forth, and after watching it and having a meeting with Dr. Maroon who explained time and again what they were doing, as I told some previous people, they said, ‘you’d never go in the Hall of Fame because you’d feel like a hypocrite, but what if they change? What if the whole thing changed? Would you reconsider?’ I would absolutely. If they change, absolutely I would reconsider.

Well they’ve convinced me that they have changed and they convinced me—Paul Levesque has—that they want to be family friendly and the plans to go ahead is to do even more so, and I liked everything he had to say. Putting everything together is what made me want to go in.

Q. I imagine there has been some interaction between you and Mr. McMahon. How would you describe your current relationship with Vince McMahon after years of disagreements, as many wrestling fans know?

A. Well, first of all, I have not talked to Vince McMahon at all. In the past six months that I have been speaking with Paul Levesque, I have never once talked to Vince McMahon. Now, yes, as you said he is the boss, so I feel that from my conversations with Paul Levesque and the agreements we’ve come to and so forth, I do believe he had to speak to Vince, and Vince of course had to agree.

But as far as myself, I will see him for the first time at Madison Square Garden at the Hall of Fame. But I have not talked to him, and as far as I know, there aren’t any plans for us to talk until we meet in person at that time. So when that time comes, we shall meet in person and if he wants to bury the hatchet as the old saying goes, I commend him for the changes that he made. I criticized him before, and I will give him credit because these changes could not have taken place without his approval. So, you know, I have to be fair too here.

So, when I meet him I will shake his hand and I will tell him, ‘Hey, I’m willing to bury the hatchet, I didn’t like what you did before, but I like a lot of what you have done since, so I’m willing to put our past behind us.’

Q. If you could chose anyone to induct you into the Hall of Fame, who would you select?

A. There is a number of people I’d probably select, but to be perfectly honest and fair, I told Paul that if I have my choice and they want me to pick someone that I would, but if they had somebody in mind because the business has changed—from what I understand, they’re like in 126 countries around the world—so I thought maybe they’d want that they feel is known through all of their markets that would be more appropriate, I don’t know. I don’t want to force the issue.

If it were me, there would be a number of names I’d want; that I think would be fitting I should say. It could be [Larry] Zbyszko as you mentioned, could be a Koloff because he’s the one I lost the title to the first time, could be Bill Watts because I certainly have a history with him in this business as well, it could be a good friend of mine that I like very much—we come from the same neck of the woods—and that would be Dominic DeNucci, You know, but if they choose someone that they feel is more appropriate because of their 126 markets around the world and they think they might be more important, then I wouldn’t argue with them. I’d be fine with that too.

As of right now, it has not been determined on who it’s going to be.

WrestleMania 29 Card Update, Jake Roberts Talks Hogan, WWE Inbox, GI Joe Trailer

– As noted earlier this week in our “What Happened After RAW” report, The Rock and John Cena had a face-to-face confrontation after the TV broadcast ended, with both men pointing at the WrestleMania 29 sign hanging above the arena. According to WWE sources, the Rock vs. Cena match is one of the matches that’s a lock for April’s big show. Lesnar vs. Triple H is also booked, with Triple H expected to return to WWE television in the weeks ahead to confront Lesnar for putting Vince out of action with an F5. As of this past weekend, The Undertaker’s status for WrestleMania is still unconfirmed. While it’s possible that he does wrestle CM Punk, other plans are already being discussed for Punk’s opponent in the event that the Undertaker takes this year off. One idea was for Punk to be added to the Rock vs. Cena match, making it a triple threat match. It is more likely Punk will get paired up with another main event superstar in an effort to keep him at the top of the card.
