– As reported earlier this week, Ricardo Rodriguez wrestled a dark match at Tuesday’s Saturday Morning Slam tapings against Sin Cara as the masked luchador “El Lo Cal.” Rodriguez is expected to wrestle more in the coming months and company officials feel that he brings out the best in Sin Cara.

Winter Interview – Incest Angle With Paul Burchill, Who Created Her TNA Character, WrestleMania Experience

6

Former WWE Diva and TNA Women’s Knockouts Champion Katarina Waters (a/k/a Katie Lea Burchill and Winter) joined Kayfabe Wrestling Radio this week to discuss her time in Ohio Valley Wrestling and learning the WWE style of wrestling, the incest angle with Paul Burchill, her WrestleMania experiences and more. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

If her early background in drama and theater helped her developing a character for wrestling: “Yeah, I would say it helped, especially the improvisational part helped, because there’s just so many times when you’re just thrown out there and given just a general note of what you’re supposed to be saying; you know, what your bullet points are and you’re supposed to create a whole conversation around it and make it interesting and varied and in turn with the character that you’re trying to portray. Especially the improvisation then helps; just that you have experience and that it’s not regular bunny-in-the-headlights ‘Oh God, what am I going to say next’, but that it’s something that you’re used to and feel more confident doing that. So, I’d say that especially helps. And then with the character building, I guess a lot of wresting is being able to portray a character that you sort of secretly want to be, a lot of the time; not always, obviously. But if you really get to pick and choose who you can be, you know, the evil “B” that you never get to be in real life; maybe you grew up being very nice and polite to everybody, at least you get to scream and shout and swear and be this horrible being. Yeah, it’s fun.”

On her days in OVW and learning the “WWE Style”: “Al Snow was in charge of us (OVW Divas), and I think that Al Snow is one of the people I’ve learned more from than anybody else. He’s such a great teacher and really the WWE style made a lot of sense, especially the way he was able to explain it because it’s all about the story; storytelling in the ring and the dramatics and the story between the two people that will keep you watching rather than just some moves, one next to the other. So, in that sense, I was really grateful to be able to learn that and understand that and I’m still grateful now when I go to do shows, that I have that knowledge, that I got in OVW; that I have that in the back of my mind that I can use. It was just a really great learning experience, especially because Al and Danny Davis were writing the TV show. So, you were able to go to Al with ideas for storylines and for your character and he would help you put together something that, if what you suggested didn’t work, he would explain why and what to change, but he would always take your ideas on board so that you could learn from your own creativity and be creative. It was a really awesome experience.”

Her character in WWE and the possible ‘incest’ angle with Paul Burchill: “I thought it was going to be a wonderful idea. I mean, I knew it could eventually end up disastrous but it could also be amazing. I mean, who is not interested in that? Any time the mainland TV show has run some kind of incest angle, it’s been the most talked about thing. I don’t know if you guys do that over here; in England, we’ve had a few of those going on. I thought it was alright to refer to the film ‘The Crow’ where you have Top Dollar, the bad guy, and his sister or half-sister have some kind of thing going on there between them. I just figured it would be something like that where it’s kind of implied by not right there; maybe a tease and maybe it would come out a bit more or maybe it was just an unspoken kind of thing. But wither way, I really felt it was something intriguing and that people would be fascinated by and would want to watch. I was all for it.

What the Wrestlemania experience was like for her, for both events she was at: “Well, the thing is for me, growing up Wrestlemania didn’t stand out amongst the other PPVs. To me, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, Wrestlemania, King of the Ring; I really didn’t understand, really, the difference. Like I didn’t see Wrestlemania as being the uber-supershow, because I wasn’t that plugged into it; I was just watching on TV, you know, in Germany. So for me, any PPV they had then, not right now where they have one every month, but back then when it was the 4 or 5 big ones, that was (PPVs) a big deal, in general. In hindsight obviously it’s ‘Wow, I was at Wrestlemania” so that’s awesome. But Wrestlemania didn’t stand out for me as a bigger PPV that the others. But that being said, it’s still something I can say “I was at TWO Wrestlemanias”; that’s pretty savvy.”

Who truly came up with her Winter gimmick in TNA; herself or Vince Russo?: “I think that’s a difficult question to answer because he basically came up with the thing, the story and that, and he would tell you pretty much what to say and then you also have to, as an actress or a performer, change around little pieces and you have to make your own, but I’d have to say Vince essentially came up with it and I changed it out; you know how you have those coloring books, Vince was the one who gave me the coloring book, and hopefully, maybe, I put the right colors into it.”

In this 50-minute interview, Waters also discusses if she was more comfortable growing up German or British, who made the decision for her to be promoted to the main WWE roster, social media’s place in wrestling, the infamous ‘future endeavored’ speech from WWE, being an action figure, WWE’s marketing of women’s wrestling, leaving TNA Wrestling, her future and more. The interview is available at WildTalkRadio.com.

TNA Talent No Longer Allowed To Work Indy Shows Released On DVD Or iPPV

14

TNA recently instituted a new policy where it’s contracted talent are no longer allowed to wrestle on independent shows that are released on DVD or broadcasted via iPPV or television. Previously, TNA talent was allowed to work indy shows, even if those shows were released on DVD, as long as it was the indy promotion selling the DVDs directly and not a third party (such as Amazon.com or Best Buy).

Since many of TNA wrestlers make a portion of their income from working indy shows (and many indy promotions depend on TNA stars to sell tickets & DVDs), this is likely to have a big impact on the industry.

Chavo Guerrero recently had to cancel a scheduled appearance for Quebec’s North Shore Pro Wrestling due to the new policy:

“I will not be appearing @NSPW on Oct 6 due to them not honoring their contract. They decided last min that they wanted to tape & sell DVD’s Of me & that was never discussed. That is of course illegal to film & distribute w/out permission. I’m sorry to ppl who have already paid But that is completely on @NSPW plz don’t blame me. I’m still willing to hold up my end of the deal. Plz take your complaints to @NSPW”

NSPW responded via Twitter:

“Due to TNA deciding that their talent cant appear on indy feds’ dvd, we hav no choice but to cancel Chavo Guerrero’s appearance on Oct. 6th. Mr. Guerrero’s claim that we decided last minute to tape and sell dvds is incorrect has we have done dvds of all of our shows. It is just not possible to cover the cost without dvds of the event. Never in the past has this been an issue with any guests. NSPW finds the situation and the decision made by TNA to prevent talent from appearing on dvds to be unfortunate. NSPW doesn’t hold anything against Mr Guerrero and wishes him nothing but the best with TNA Wrestling. A suitable replacement for our Main Event will be announced tonight!”

JBL Talks About Mountain Climbing, Wrestling Again, WWE’s Hall Of Fame

5

Former WWE superstar JBL was recently interviewed by HollywoodLife.com and spoke about his Seven Summits Bermuda Challenge. Here are some highlights of what the self proclaimed Wrestling God said about:

Does The Danger Scare Him? “[No]. It might be stupidity or naïveté but I really don’t have a fear of dying on these mountains or even getting hurt. I am going with great guides who have done these mountains many times, a lot of people do get hurt and die on these mountains especially when you get to the harder mountains but it is not a false bravado, I just don’t really think, I just don’t think its going to happen! It obviously could, hopefully my wife would be upset, it would be a shame if she doesn’t [Laughter} but I am focused on climbing the mountain. Its like going into a wrestling match, are you really worried about getting hurt? Its not like the danger isn’t there, its all about doing what you can do, and that is where my focus is on.”

Wrestling One More Match: “I have zero and no desire for one more match. I mean you never say never, but I have no desire at all for one more match. WWE has never brought up one more match, so I don’t err see it happening. You never know, but I have no desire to have one! There certainly isn’t one in the cards, its something that I don’t care to do.”

Is He A Hall Of Fame Candidate? “I would be tremendously honored if the Hall of Fame knocked on my door, that would be the biggest career highlight a person could ever have to even have my name mentioned as a possibility is quite an honor considering the great superstars that are in there. That is a lifetime achievement that is phenomenal. That is completely out of my control, I hope someday somebody puts my name up and I hope I am not laughed out of the room. But I can’t control that, it would be a tremendous honor. Its not something I am expecting. There are plenty of great performers that should go ahead of me in the Hall as very well they should be.”

Funkadactyls Accused Of Copying The Bella Twins, Kenny Bolin Leaving Ohio Valley Wrestling

27

– Nicole Garcia, formerly known as Nikki of The Bella Twins, is none too pleased with The Funkadactyls, Cameron and Naomi. The former WWE Divas Champion’s source of contention stems from her belief that the dance troupe is mimicking her and sister Brianna (a/k/a/ Brie Bella).

On Raw Monday, Cameron and Naomi appeared in matching silver attire reminiscent of the former WWE Divas. A fan showed Nicole an image of their outfit from the show via Twitter, to which she retorted, “Unbelievable!! They’re trying to remake us haha.”

She continued with the copy-cat accusations: “1st they steal our entrance, now our outfits, next is the booty shake & then they’ll b calling themselves twins!”

– Kenny Bolin, who has appeared for Ohio Valley Wrestling for more than a decade and managed a number of wrestlers who found great success in WWE (John Cena, Bobby Lashley, The Miz and Mark Henry, among others) said on Facebook that tonight’s television taping in Louisville, Kentucky, may be his final wrestling show. He has been battling health problems in recent years and is taking an indefinite leave of absence.

Bolin hopes to return in the future, but noted, “I just have too many things going on in my life right now that I have to deal with and need my attention first.” He also said that he is leaving Louisville for the time being to deal with family issues. He hopes to appear on Saturday night shows and return to television in three to six months, but nothing is guaranteed.

TNA Head Reportedly Not A Fan Of Women’s Wrestling, Bobby Roode Appears On “TNA Today”

40

– The Wrestling Observer reports that one of the reasons ‘some women’ have quit TNA Wrestling in the past year stems from the belief that Bruce Prichard, Senior Vice President of Programming and Talent Relations, is not in favor of women’s wrestling. This would also explain why the Knockouts division is not as given as much prominence as in the past, with only a few talents being highlighted.

Angelina Love and Velvet Sky reportedly left the promotion on their own accord and the roles of Mickie James, Rosita, Sarita and Winter were greatly curtailed after Prichard came into power last October.

TNA Officially Vacates TV Championship; New Champion To Be Crowned Thursday

The challengers selected to compete are Samoa Joe, Garett Bischoff, Magnus, and Mr. Anderson. The four grapplers will plead their case on why they should receive a shot at the Television Title to Impact Wrestling General Manager Hulk Hogan, who will then set up a match on Impact.

TNA’s official announcement is as follows:

First-ever Match-up Taking Place This Friday On SmackDown, Zack Ryder’s Online Success Story

13

– Beth Phoenix says her match against Natalya on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown will be the first time they ever met in a singles match.

“This Friday on SmackDown @NatbyNature and I square off for the first time one on one in our respective 10+ year careers in Buffalo. #magic,” she wrote Wednesday on Twitter after noting earlier that the event may have been the highlight of her career.

Grow Socially has published an article on the online success story of Zack Ryder. “Long Island Iced Z” says his struggle to find a place in WWE led to him venturing online.

“I didn’t feel like a Superstar, you know?”, Ryder said, “I didn’t have an action figure, I wasn’t on TV, I didn’t have a promotional [photo]. I was just sick of pitching ideas and nothing getting done. But I did realize I had to do something about it.”

In February 2011, Ryder began using various social networking websites in order to establish a niche fan following which helped attain an elevated status within WWE.

With Ryder’s successful online endeavors, he has been credited with WWE embracing social media after long dismissing it.
