Mark Henry Spotted In Phoenix & Reveals When His WWE Contract Expires

7

Mark Henry has been spotted in Phoenix, Arizona at the hotel where the WWE superstars are staying. Henry has been out of action with an injury since the spring of 2012 and it’s unknown at this time if he’ll be returning tonight or if he’s just visiting.

Speaking of Mark Henry, he spoke to Eurosport Turkey last week to promote tonight’s WWE Royal Rumble. Here are some highlights:

– His WWE contract runs through Wrestlemania 29.

– He said he “thinks” he’ll be cleared to wrestle by the Rumble, but doesn’t know if he’ll be used.

– He said Mick Foley and Bob Backlund are very underrated and deserved to be in the WWE Hall of Fame a long time ago.

– The best wrestler in WWE is CM Punk, followed by John Cena and Big Show. He said after them there’s a group of 10 or wrestlers who are right on the cups to that top tier, such as Sheamus, Ryback, Daniel Bryan, himself, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston and Christian.

– He said his favorite WWE theme music CM Punk’s. His least favorite is Sheamus’ theme.

Bob Backlund Talks HOF Induction, Drugs & Steroids, Hogan Taking His Top Spot & More

7

Bob Backlund joined the VOC Wrestling Nation Radio Program to discuss his WWE Hall of Fame Induction, his upcoming book, his website Backlundenergy.com, and much more. The VOC Wrestling Nation is the flagship show of the VOC Nation Radio Network, and can be heard every Wednesday from 5PM-7PM ET. Here is some of what Mr. Backlund had to say:

Performing in front of hot crowds: There are a lot of things that I can’t do in practice, but when I get into the ring with the emotion of the people, it makes your adrenaline run very high and I can do them very easily.

His new business evdeavor, Gym in a Box: Back in the 80s I used to run for conditioning. If you run long enough, you will end up hurting your knees very badly. I learned about a product called “step test”, and you can do these step exercises for a long period of time without damaging your body.

A return to the ring: I’m in better shape now than I’ve been in a long time (because of the Step Test); the WWE said that they would not welcome me into the ring – I said to them that if the people want me, they’ll put me into the ring. It’s all about what the people want.

Finally getting inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame: There were some things going on that we had to get settled behind the scenes before I agreed to go into the Hall of Fame. I have a book coming out in late 2013 that will chronicle all of my trials and tribulations with the WWE, as well as my whole life.

Taking Drugs: I didn’t party. I didn’t change my rules for everyone. I don’t go down to their level, I make people come up to mine. I hate to see young kids make that decision to go down to someone else’s level. I hate to see people try to fit in; they want you to fit in because they want to bring you down to their level.

Steroids: I never, ever desired to have big gigantic muscles. You can’t judge a book by the cover. I was as strong as anybody in the business, and I’m proud of it because I worked very hard to get that way.

Getting his opportunity to be the top guy in the WWE: I was going the extra mile, and doing more than I was expected to do. People behind the scenes took notice, and I got my opportunity.

Hulk Hogan coming in and taking his spot: At the time (I felt slighted). I thought I was sort of family with the McMahons. But then, when I think back, you can’t hold on to something forever. When someone new comes in, he wants to make new decisions, and it worked out very successfully for them.

Working as a heel at the end of his career: I explain this in great detail (in my book). I refused to be a bad guy in the 80s. (Then we saw an opportunity) to make me a bad guy by being good. I built up a huge vocabulary to I could agitate the plebeians. I said they changed and they were going in a bad direction. The thing was, I meant every word of what I said. I was trying to encourage children to memorize things and they thought that was a bad thing.

Jim Ross Blog: Royal Rumble Predictions

4

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with a preview of tonight’s Royal Rumble 2013 pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

CM Punk vs. The Rock: I expect the WWE Title bout the close the show featuring WWE Champion @CMPunk defending against @TheRock. It will be interesting to see how the challenger will be able to morph from movie star back to his wrestling roots especially against the intense Punk who is obviously walking into the main event with a sizeable chip on is shoulder.

As I have written, I see Punk, who is extremely physical and tough, using Muay Tai kicks and strikes, in general, against Rock who never really encountered anyone of Punk’s skill set when Rock was wrestling in WWE full time.

The longer the match goes the more it would seem to favor the Champion but I’m sticking to the prediction that Punk makes one mistake, likely mental, that cost him the WWE Championship.

2013 Royal Rumble Winner: I’ve picked John Cena to win the Rumble match but in reality this could go in a multitude of ways. I still feel Dolph Ziggler will make an impact and I can’t count out Sheamus, Ryback and Orton, among others. There will be so many different stories being told within this contest which makes the Rumble match so compelling. Who leaves not only the winner but who leaves this bout with their stamp on the night such as @KevinNash and Kane, among others, have done over the years? Is Kane’s record of eliminations in the Rumble match in jeopardy tonight? I say it gets broken.

Head over to JRsBarBQ.com to read the blog in its entirety, including JR’s thoughts on the other title matches at the Rumble and this day marking 20 years since the passing of Andre The Giant.

Brock Lesnar Almost Returned To UFC Last Year To Fight Fedor At Cowboys Stadium

12

During Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 6 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White revealed that Brock Lesnar agreed to return to the UFC last year to fight Fedor Emelianenko in a heavyweight megafight that would have taken place at Cowboys Stadium Sadly, Emelianenko’s father passed away and the fight fell apart.

White told the media on Saturday night:

“I told you guys that story before, we were in deep talks with [Fedor] we were that close to signing him. No [we were close to signing him] recently, right before his dad died…we were right there. When I was talking about doing that big Dallas Texas stadium show it was going to be Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor. Remember when I met with him and I said it didn’t get well? It actually did go well. It went well and then Fedor’s dad died, he wanted to fight Fedor….Fedor was done, he said ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with my family.’ We were negotiating for months. And then after his dad died he said, ‘That’s it I’m done,’ or whatever and then Brock said, ‘I’m done too.'”

As for Lesnar’s future, White doesn’t believe he’ll ever fight in the Octagon again.

“From what I understand, he has absolutely, positively made his decision not to fight ever again from what I understand, but I mean, anything’s possible. You know, when the guy says he wants to retire, you’re never going to see me chasing a guy that says he wants to retire. If you want to retire, you should retire.”

“He’s going to do his stint in the WWE and then go away. He’s got a big farm up in Canada. He loves to farm and he loves to be with his family out in the middle of nowhere.”

Royal Rumble 2013: Main Event Spoiled By DVD Promo Material?

140

Warning: The following contains a major possible *SPOILER* for the Royal Rumble:

WWE has sent out promotional material for the 2013 Royal Rumble DVD & Blu-Ray packages – and it appears they’ve spoiled the pay-per-view’s main event in the process.

WWE is advertising that the main event for WrestleMania 29 will be The Rock vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. The ad notes, “Buzz is already building after the main event match-up announcement placing two mega-watt Superstars face-to-face for the first time since WrestleMania 28.”

While it’s always possible this could be an error … it appears that CM Punk’s 400+ day title reign will be ending at the Rumble, with John Cena getting his “twice in a lifetime” shot at The Rock on April 7th.

We finally get to see the guy who claims to be The Best in the World taking on the all-time Great One. It’s been great to see the build and I can’t wait just like everybody else to see how it’s gonna go down. We’re actually gonna find out exactly who the best is.””

The Miz: “Am I rooting for The Rock? Absolutely. Do I want him to win? Absolutely. Do I want him to unseat the WWE Champion and become the champion? Absolutely, because you know what? Ricardo Rodriguez Interview: First Time He Met Del Rio, If He’ll Be In The Royal Rumble & More

5

Ricardo Rodriguez spoke to SmackTalk Radio Live this week to hype the Royal Rumble. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

First time he met Alberto Del Rio:

“It was actually that day he debuted, that was the first time I met him. I knew who he was before because I’ve been a huge wrestling fan for most of my life. I didn’t recognize him at first because of the mask, but once I found out who he was I thought it was awesome because I had done so many shows back in California with his uncle Mil Mascaras….but I didn’t meet him until that day…and that was nerve wrecking for me because it was my first time in a WWE event and I had just kinda been picked up for it….it was also the first day I met Vince.”

Fans cheering him and Del Rio now:

“Since in the company, we’ve been bad guys so it’s pretty much all we knew…but this transition has been interesting because it’s not something we asked the fans to do, they started applauding, they started cheering…It started slowly by our crazy antics or Del Rio’s crazy wrestling ability, the crowd started turning and cheering for us, it’s been interesting because it isn’t something we’ve asked the crowd to do.”

Whether he will be in the Royal Rumble on Sunday:

“Well it’s up to the boss, I mean if he lets me I would love to. If Del Rio lets me partake in the Rumble I would love to be a part of it. I think I have to one-up myself and get two eliminations this time as opposed to one.”

Hulk Hogan Talks About Brooke Wrestling

11

Hulk Hogan talked to Ireland’s Xpose Entertainment this week about his daughter Brooke Hogan getting in the ring:

“It’s my worst nightmare! But she’s really good, she’s really good in front of the camera, she’s a really great actress, she has great timing, she’ll take a half a breath and respond instead of having that knee-jerk reaction to what’s going on which is what most wrestlers do. It’s a pleasure working with her on camera, but my greatest fear has always been the evils of this business, and her getting in too deep and becoming full-time and getting hurt. I’d just hate to see that after what I’ve been through. And her passion is still music, she’s a songwriter now and she loves doing that.”

“She’s been in the ring one time messing about and she loved it – which scared me to death! I can understand it, it’s very addictive. Part of it is because I’m her father and part of it is that if you do get in the ring and take a few bumps it’s like being addicted to chocolate or drugs, you either like it or you don’t, it’s very addictive and I think she got into the ring and she loved it.”

“She’s been asking me about it and I told her, ‘Look Brooke you’re not 18 anymore you’re 24 so do what you want to do.’ If she does do it then it will probably be fun to watch but the business is tough.”
