Beth Phoenix Talks About Being Fired On RAW – WWE Stars Comment

50

After being fired by Vickie Guerrero on Monday’s RAW, WWE.com cameras caught up with Beth Phoenix to get her reaction.

Beth said if this really is the end of her WWE career, she’s very thankful that the WWE Universe supported her so much throughout the years. She had a chance to live out a childhood dream and is proud of everything she accomplished in the ring. Beth doesn’t know what’s next but promised that we haven’t seen the last of her.

Big Show Talks WWE ’13, The Attitude Era, CM Punk vs. The Rock & More

3

WWE’s new World Heavyweight Champion Big Show recently spoke with ESPN.com to hype the new WWE ’13 video game, which is now in stores. Here are some highlights of what Big Show said about:

“WWE 13” revolves around the Attitude Era, which you helped shape back in the day. What is it about that time period that makes for a perfect video game?

The Attitude Era was so great because you had the best collection of superstars of any one time period. You had The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Mick Foley … all of these guys are legends, but it wasn’t just about the top of the card. We had house shows where you had Rock versus Stone Cold, you had Triple H versus Mick Foley, The Undertaker against Kane, The New Age Outlaws versus LOD, Edge and Christian against Jeff and Matt Hardy, and Big Show against Mark Henry in a bodyslam match. That might sound like a dream card, but that’s a card we ran almost every weekend. We would have sold out show after sold out show, no tickets available, because we had such incredible superstars who were really established as characters, and everyone couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.

Do you have a favorite memory from the Attitude Era?

My favorite memory happened after the show would end. The Rock would bring his guitar to the ring and Stone Cold would sing and everyone would spend the night BSing, then they would break out The Rock Bottom or the Stone Cold Stunner to end the night. These guys were just so entertaining, but the main difference is that in the Attitude Era, there weren’t as many rules. We weren’t so corporate, we weren’t in the PG era, so back then, it was more of that crazy, rock and roll atmosphere. That’s the big difference about the Attitude Era — it was just really out there, rock and roll.

We might have a great clash between an Attitude Era guy going up against a current star at The Royal Rumble, with The Rock against CM Punk. What do you think will happen if these two get the chance to work a program together?

Punk is a guy who you can’t shake his confidence, and The Rock is the same way, you can’t shake his confidence, so I think anything Punk says to Rock, any of his wittiness, you know Rock is going to be right there competitively. I think the biggest difference is Punk is right here every week doing this, he’s been the champ for over 300 days, and he’s a great athlete, so I can see Punk pulling this out. Rock’s an explosive athlete, while Punk is a showman who is also gritty and tough, so I think if these two end up coming to blows, you can pretty much flip a coin. When The Rock beat John Cena, I was actually pretty surprised, so I have no idea what will happen.

You’ve been around the ring a long time. Is there anyone left who qualifies as a dream match for you?

I’d like to have one more match with The Undertaker. He was very influential in my career and always one of my favorites, so I’d like to have one more run with him. I’d like to have another match with Stone Cold. I’m a big fan of Stone Cold, both as a person and as a talent, so I’d like another run with Steve. I wouldn’t mind getting another shot at The Rock, either. Any of those three guys in a high-profile, main-event match would be pretty exciting, and a pretty good payday, too.

What Happened After Monday’s RAW Went Off The Air

9

After Monday’s WWE RAW from Charlotte, North Carolina went off the air, Ryback stayed in the ring for his dark match main event against CM Punk.

The Champion came back out and took a long before entering the ring. Punk tried to get out of the match by saying he was still banged up from Hell in a Cell.

Ryback defeated CM Punk by disqualification after the members of CM Punk’s Survivor Series team ran down and attacked Ryback. Ryback was in control for most of the match until Ryback fought back and went for his Shell Shocked finisher. This is when Team Punk made the save for their captain.

After the match, Mick Foley’s team ran out and evened the odds, starting a huge brawl before both teams left the ring – leaving the captains. Ryback hit Punk with Shell Shocked to send the crowd home happy.

Jake Roberts Moves In With DDP To Train For One Last Run

23

Wrestling legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts has moved in to Diamond Dallas Page’s home in Atlanta, Georgia to train for one final run.

DDP spoke to Newsday.com about working with Jake Roberts (now 57) and putting him through a 6-8 week program where Jake can use his yoga program to drop weight, live a healthy lifestyle and get back into ring shape.

Page tells Newsday.com that he called Roberts 3 months ago in his home town of Gainesville, Texs and convinced him that he could get back to fighting shape within a matter of months.

“I told him, ‘If you can really do this — and you have to prove it to me [by doing the program] for six or eight weeks,” Page said. “‘I’ll freakin’ get a place in Atlanta. I’ll bring you up, and we’ll continue this journey.’”

Roberts’ weight had ballooned up to 305 pounds when he began doing DDP’s yoga program several weeks ago. Page said that Roberts lost 20 pounds in the first 3 1/2 weeks of training and is now down approximately 35 pounds. The first few weeks of his training were

“Jake does not want to be seen the way he was seen at the end,” Page said.

Along with putting Jake through physical training, DDP and filmmaker Steve Yu will document Jake’s transformation and get him up to date using Facebook and Twitter. The idea is to keep Jake busy with positive, constructive activities and hopefully keep him out of trouble.

“That house, I reached out to a couple of my friends, and asked, ‘What are we going to call my new crib?’ And we came up with ‘Accountability Crib,’ you’re accountable for everything.”

Roberts will be drug-tested while living at DDP’s home and is starting off on very thin ice.

“If he does that [stuff] one time while he’s with me, he’s gone,” Page said.

Despite Jake’s personal demons, everybody is rooting for him to turn his life around and get himself one final chance at success.

“Bottom line is, everybody wants the comeback story,” Page said. “Everybody wants to see Jake look good, and feel good, and not be a mess anymore. That would be great. I think there are a lot of really positive things that can come out of this if Jake really does it.”

Dolph Ziggler Explains Why He Didn’t Cash In MITB At Hell In A Cell

19

Dolph Ziggler made headlines a few weeks ago when he “guaranteed” that he would be cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at Sunday’s WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. After Big Show defeated Sheamus for the World Heavyweight title in a physical war that left both men very banged up, it appeared as if the stage was set for Ziggler’s music to hit and for the Showoff to challenge a vulnerable Big Show just minutes into his title reign. However, it never happened.

WWE.com caught up with Ziggler after Money in the Bank and asked the Showoff why he did not cash in, as promised:

“I’m not a dummy like John Cena where I’m going to announce to the world when I’m going to cash it in. I do this when I want.”

“Now there’s a brand new champion Big Show and he has to look over his shoulder every single living minute of his day. I do what I want when I want. And anyone who believed me, you’re sheep like everyone else.”

Hulk Hogan Settles Lawsuit Against Bubba The Love Sponge

15

TMZ.com is reporting that Hulk Hogan has settled his lawsuit against Bubba the Love Sponge stemming from his recent sex tape scandal. While no financial terms of the settlement were made public, but Bubba released a letter of apology today, noting that he felt Hogan has nothing to do with the recording of the tape…

“It is my belief that Hulk is not involved, and has not ever been involved, in trying to release the video, or exploit it, or otherwise gain from the video’s release in any way.”

He also noted that he was, “committed to helping Hulk and his attorneys find whoever is responsible for the release of the tape.”

Hogan is still continuing on with his $100 million lawsuit against Gawker for publishing the tape. He is also seeking damages from Bubba’s ex-wife, heather Clem.

Here is the full letter of apology…

October 29,2012
Re: Public Apology to Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) and Retraction of Statements

After further investigation, I am now convinced that Hulk Hogan was unaware of the presence of the recording device in my bedroom. I am convinced he had no knowledge that he was being taped. Additionally, I am certain that he had no role in the release of the video.

It is my belief that Terry is not involved, and has not ever been involved, in trying to release the video, or exploit it, or otherwise gain from the video’s release in any way.

Regrettably, when Hulk filed the lawsuit against me, I instinctively went on the offensive. The things that I said about him and his children were not true. I was wrong and I am deeply sorry for my reaction, and for the additional pain that it caused Hulk and his children on top of the pain that they already were feeling from having learned that Terry was taped without his knowledge, and the public release of the video.

I am committed to helping Hulk and his attorneys find whoever is responsible for the release of the tape and holding them accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

CM Punk Compares Himself To Steve Austin, Paul Heyman On Attitude-ECW

16

WWE Champion CM Punk and Paul Heyman spoke to Anthony Sulla-Heffinger of The New York Post to promote the new “WWE ’13” video game. Here are some highlights:

Paul Heyman on the Attitude Era Spawning From ECW:

“I do think it’s disrespectful, and here’s why. As with anything else in life, you have to constantly re-invent yourself. I don’t think it’s any secret that the Attitude Era was spawned from the ECW days, and as the architect of the ECW experience, I can tell you that the 1990s are dead. That means that the extreme concept, the Attitude Era has run its course. The reason why it is in this game today is so that people can compare the modern era to the Attitude experience. The WWE can continue to look on the Attitude Era as its glory days and ignore the magnificent performances that are being delivered every week by their current reigning, defending WWE Champion who proclaims himself to be the best in the world and with good reason, because he is. These people who are hanging onto the past need to understand that by doing that they are not allowing the audience to sink into the future.”

CM Punk on whether he’s similar to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin:

“I prefer to say that Stone Cold Steve Austin was the Attitude Era’s version of CM Punk. Our similarities, and I’ve already talked about it. We both work extremely hard, we both love, respect and are passionate about this business. I don’t think that when he laced up his boots that there is anybody that worked harder than him and now there is not a single person today that can lace up their boots and work harder than me.”

– Here’s what Mick Foley told WWE.com about Ryback’s WWE title host against CM Punk tonight at Hell in a Cell:

“If there was ever a time not to hold anything back, it is in this match. We haven’t seen Ryback pushed past the five-minute mark. Five minutes would be a long Ryback match … [Punk] had a day off and spent it running a marathon; that is a guy who is in prime condition.”

JBL Blogs About Tonight’s Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View

WWE announcer JBL has posted a blog update on Facebook.com hyping tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Here’s what JBL said about:

Tonight’s PPV From Atlanta: “Great cardio session this morning getting ready for PPV tonight in Atlanta. Hard to believe during the ‘Attitude Era’ that we would be here in Atlanta and WCW would be no more, especially the year they were beating us in ratings.

The Attitude Era: “Loved the ‘Attitude Era’ but also enjoying being back, I think the shift to a more PG product is good for business. Was easy in ‘Attitude Era’ to take shortcuts and now one has to think harder to get an edge and get ‘over’. I like the challenge, but I’m just an announcer-those that respond to the challenge will do very well.”

Ryback’s First PPV Main Event: “Huge challenge tonight for many, especially Ryback-I think he will do great, but you never know until it happens. A HUGE difference between wrestling top guys and closing a PPV. This is truly baptism by fire. My bet? I think Ryback does well, he’s out there with ‘the best in the world’ so expectations are very high. Sink or swim, lights are on bright.”
