Ziggler Plans To Reinvent Wrestling, Bagwell Goes To School

27

— Dolph Ziggler was asked during an interview with WWE Magazine if there is anyone he loves listening to on the mic. He says The Rock despite not being “a huge fan” of his.

“Though I’m not a huge fan of The Rock, I admit that I am a fan of the fact that he does his own thing. He gets excited on the mic. He yells. He didn’t listen to what people told him to do, and people responded to that. I appreciate someone who stands out and stands up for what he believes in, because that’s what I’m trying to do,” Ziggler says.

“When I finally get the chance to say what I want, to talk about where we’re going from here on out, when my voice, my words, become the measuring stick for WWE, I think that’s the moment that’s going to reinvent our entire business.”

SLAM! Wrestling has published an article on Marcus “Buff” Bagwell wrestling at the high school he attended, Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. Along with that special occasion, Bagwell partnered with Scott Steiner in the main event of UCW’s recent Superclash event. The former nWo duo lost to Brodie Chase and Mike Knox in a tag team match.

Though long removed from the national wrestling scene and now 42 years of age, Bagwell still looks as he did during the late 1990s with World Championship Wrestling. The twenty-two year veteran credits his persona as the main reason for his consistent look.

“My name’s the reason,” Bagwell joked. “If you’ve got a name like “Buff” you better look the part.”

His physique has led to an endorsement as he is featured in online advertisements for Force Factor muscle building supplements.

Carlito later added the following, throwing in a joke about CM Punk:

“Oh, and I meant wrestlers on today’s roster. Of course stone cold with the right angle could sell mania out.”

“Punk sell out mania? He cant even get backstage at madison square garden! Oh snap!….that was just a joke b%*es!”

“The problem with john cena is that he has carried the company on his back for years and now people are sick of him.”

Carlito was later asked by a fan if he could WrestleMania. Carlito said he could, only if it was held in a bingo hall.

Dolph Ziggler Talks About His Promos, How He Stands Out

29

The latest issue of WWE Magazine features an interview with Dolph Ziggler. Here are some highlights of what Zigler said about:

His New “Stream-of-Consciousness” Promo Style:

“I always kind of did my own thing, but it got me into trouble a lot, so I started listening to what people were telling me to do to show I was a team player. I got a lot of different advice in the meantime, to be monotonous on the mic and conversational, normal, but I don’t want to do what everybody else does. So when I got on the mic, I’d talk fast, talk slow, make people think. And after a few weeks of following the rules, I was given a chance on the mic and told to sneak a couple of things in there that are really me. I’m finally coming into my own now, and if people don’t like it, yell at me. But there’s a reason I keep getting more and more time, and that’s because I’m good at talking, at showing off. It’s kind of my thing.

How He Stands Out Working Around Established Stars Like The Rock, Triple H and Chris Jericho:

JR once told me, “Maximize your minute,” and I live by that motto. If I have 30 seconds to make everyone remember what I do, I better make the most of it. With whatever time I’m given, I need to do something to stand out, to become a draw, so that the fans say, “Yeah, we came here to see John Cena, but damn, Dolph Ziggler’s match was a clinic and it was awesome, and I was on the edge of my seat. So I’m coming back next time to see him.” Now that I’m getting title matches and getting to step into the ring with some of the best competition there is, now I’m going to work hard to get my time in and show just how damn good I am.

JR Blog: Tonight’s RAW, Punk-Merriman, Rock & Cena

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

The Rock & John Cena: “Do Rock and Cena really not like each other? I’m not around either man these days but my instincts say that they aren’t enamored with each other. However, I do not think that will do any thing but help the build to their match at WrestleMania. Each man may say that they love to entertain, etc but in my view they are both alpha male athletes who want to out shine the other at the big dance which obviously will be ‘entertaining’ as hell for fans.”

Tonight’s RAW: “I’m anticipating some interesting ‘competition’ Monday night on Raw as the show stealer, Shawn Michaels, returns to live TV to, apparently, address HHH regarding HIAC at WM28. Point being is that last week’s Raw ended with the memorable verbal confrontation between Rock and John Cena and knowing how much HHH and HBK enjoy main event status, who will stand out the most in Boston?

Shawn Merriman Calling Out CM Punk: “What do you make of the Shawn Merriman twitter war with CM Punk? If Merriman’s NFL career is on the ropes it’s likely a way of garnering attention for the talented albeit controversial athlete. Perhaps Merriman is looking for a WWE career.”

McIntyre’s Future, Stanford Rips Borash, “Are You Serious”

30

– Sources have confirmed that the current plan is for Drew McIntyre to make his return to SmackDown this week after being fired last week. RAW GM John Lauranaitis is set to be in charge of SmackDown as part of  this week’s GM switch, and he is expected to rehire McIntyre.

There has been talk that McIntyre will be getting a new “playboy” gimmick soon.

– WWE announcer Scott Stanford took a few shots at TNA announcer Jeremy Borash on Twitter over the weekend. When a fan told Stanford, “You’re no Jeremy Borash!”- Stanford replied:

“Thats insulting, hurtful and…wait, who is that?”

After getting some backlash from Borash fans, Stanford later followed up with:

“Im sure Jeremy is better than me in whatever he does.. I dont know who he is or what he does! I know he cant out rap me!!”

“Apparently my not knowing who someone on a tv show has caused a little stir. I dont know who this season’s Bachelor is either!! Whoops”

– WWE has updated the latest “Are You Serious” video, featuring “Road Dogg” BG James and Josh Matthews making fun of wacky WWE clips. In this week’s show, they look at Shawn Michaels’ various wardrobe malfunctions, Marc Mero’s flamboyant Johnny B. Badd gimmick and the infamous Ultimate Warrior – Jake Roberts “Trust Me” storyline.

104

Jim Ross Comments On Shawne Merriman’s Rant About CM Punk

Merriman tweeted the following about Punk:

“Fuck C.M. Punk, he’s still a punk forever in my book. I’m sure my supporters feel the same way… And WWE, I ain’t hosting y’all new network until somebody whoop C.M. Punk cuz he’s a p$ssy.”

“Serious, who the fuck is C.M. Punk other than a soft butt…wrestling gone soft f off… If god is my witness, C.M. Punk was wearing a thong laying by the pool tanning his cheeks in Costa Rica, now tell me I’m lying… C.M. Punk wants no part of Lights, trust me…”

“And WWE, I ain’t hoting sh#t until C.M. is dethroned… I ain’t a hater at all, but if you like dudes tanning by the pool (in) a thong that’s cool. I think he had pillows under his stomach.”

Kendrick wrote on his Facebook page this week he asked TNA to release him because they did not have enough work for him. Kendrick told the Lowdown Unlimited show this past week that he has kicked the marijuana habit and is open to working for WWE again.

Trish Stratus Details ‘Cold Shoulder Incident’ With John Morrison

31

Trish Stratus appeared on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight to discuss her WWE career and how yoga has changed her life. Two minutes into the interview, George Stroumboulopoulos asks the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion if John Morrison resented her appearance at WrestleMania last year. Her participation in the tag team match with Morrison and Jersey Shore star Snooki against LayCool and Dolph Ziggler reportedly upset Morrison and girlfriend Melina.

“I don’t know if he did… he might have said that,” she responds.

Stratus continues, “He’s entitled to his opinion. It was one of these things where we had an epic moment, it was WrestleMania, our biggest stage of them all, and I had been retired. So I’m out of the scene and suddenly I get to come back and be in the grandest stage of all, I get to be at WrestleMania. Well he thought “that’s not cool” because I guess his girlfriend is a women wrestler and so he thought maybe another girl deserved that spot. But, I had gone back to WWE television to do Tough Enough, which was a reality show they did to find the next WWE Superstar. They asked me to be back, we promoted that show, etc. He was a little resistant, like there were some moments where I was like, “Oh, he’s not meshing with me.”

Stratus then details the ‘famous cold shoulder incident’ where she was snubbed by Morrison during their post-match celebration at WrestleMania when she attempted to embrace him.

“We have a famous cold shoulder incident. Well, we’re on live television. We had a match, we won the match, we were victorious as a team and then I went to go like, we do that typical thing, you raise the hand, you point [and he went in another direction, leaving Trish hanging],” she explains.

“I just said to him, “Hey, what you’ve done now, is because your career is made up of moments, so now you’ve taken a moment from the fans, really.” Because they don’t care about backstage politics, they don’t care if you think your girlfriend should be in that spot or whatever it was. So he just denied the fans and himself and that’s that.”

Stroumboulopoulos then asks Stratus if Morrison would have snubbed her had she not been a woman.

“Probably wouldn’t have done that to me if I wasn’t a woman, yeah,” she responds.

The video interview is available here.

JR Not Calling WM28, Tough Enough, Brodus Clay Returns

22

DDP Reveals Who He Would Come Out Of Retirement To Wrestle

20

“Diamond” Dallas Page said during an interview with the Pro Wrestling Torch Livecast that the only wrestler he would come out of retirement to wrestle would be WWE Superstar Randy Orton. Otherwise, he has no interest in returning to the ring as he does not want to risk the quality of his life at the age of 55.

“That’s the only match I would come out of retirement for. I would put my body on the line only to be able to show I could still go. I would take my body to the limits I never thought I?could at this age only for that angle, but that’s not going to happen because he’s already beat up all the old men. The only thing I’ll hook him with is he’s killed all the legends but he ain’t killed me yet,” says Page.

The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion considers The Viper the best worker in wrestling today and loves that his finishing maneuver, the RKO, is a variation of the Diamond Cutter. Pages credits John Laurinaitis with introducing him to the Diamond Cutter since the WWE executive was performing the Ace Crusher as his signature maneuver in Japan in the 1990s.

Page also gives his thoughts on John Cena vs. The Rock, his chances of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Jake “The Snake” Roberts’ influence on his career, Zack Ryder’s character and push, if he stays in touch with Eric Bischoff and more. The audio interview is available here.

1980s WWF Star Says McMahon Forced Him Out Of Wrestling

8

Boris Zhukov appeared on World Wrestling Insanity with James Guttman (interview available at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com via ClubWWI).

Boris Zhukov wins the award for the most unexpected voice from a ClubWWI.com guest. A good ol’ boy, Boris talks to James Guttman about his talent for doing impressions and changing his voice. The difference is so startling that JG asks if there was ever a consideration to work an angle with Zhukov suddenly speaking with his southern drawl. Unfortunately, WWF never did that and no other company ever had the chance. Why? Because when Boris left full time wrestling with WWF, he had no options left. For some reason, Vince McMahon saw to that.

“Full time duty I pretty much left in ’91 because I was training to be a truck driver in January of ’92. When I left Vince and stuff, I was never able to go to WCW because he never would release me out of my contract. I couldn’t even go over and do jobs in WCW back in the day. Dusty couldn’t use me at all.”

James responds with a “Wow.” As the ClubWWI.com interview continues, Boris explains that Dusty Rhodes had said he would use him, but never was able to…and it was all because McMahon had a spot in mind for Zhukov on WWF’s roster.

“After I officially left and everything, Vince kept trying to bring me back just to do jobs on TV. I said, ‘No. I’m done.’ I started doing independent shows. But he made it hard for me. Even when I worked for Universal Wrestling or whatever, they couldn’t even put me on TV. I couldn’t even get booked on WCW to do jobs.

“They wouldn’t use me at all and the territories at the time were quickly dropping out of sight. The only one left was Portland and I had no desire to move to Portland because it was all dying out anyway. I saw that happening when I was with Vince. Vince told us at a meeting one time that the territories were going and we pretty much just had to work for him. We didn’t have any place else to go and that’s pretty much what his whole goal was.”

Guttman tells Boris that this situation seems to come up a lot, especially with some tag team guys from his time period. One second, Vince was friendly and the next he was battling you. As JG points out, it didn’t sound like Zhukov had any heat with WWF but was being treated like he did. Boris explains to ClubWWI.com members that all seemed to be going well until he had to return and serve as a sub for an injured star.

“Well, he talked to me about leaving, you know. It came up after the run with Nikolai. (Nikolai turned babyface) when Reagan did the thing with ‘tear down the wall’ with Gorbachev and all that happened. There was pretty much nothing he could do with me. He told me I’d be finishing up and he got me booked in Japan and all that and pretty much gave me my notice. After we all that was worked out, I remember Macho Man had got hurt. He was in an angle with Jim Duggan.

“So Macho Man got hurt and he brought me in to take his place. I had a little run with Duggan until Macho Man came back. Then he just wanted me to come back and start doing jobs on TV because he started offering to pay for my rental car and hotel room and I knew exactly what that was. I said, ‘I ain’t doing that.’ They said, ‘Where else you gonna go?’ I said, ‘I’ll do something else for a living.’ I learned that when I first went to Atlanta and got started, old timers said, ‘Be ready for when you have to get out.’ Baron Von Raschke said to me, ‘Jim, there’s a day you get in, but there’s a day you have to leave. You have to have something else to do on the side.'”

Mark Henry Talks About Power Lifting Career, Olympics

6

During an interview with the official WWE website, SmackDown star Mark Henry spoke in-depth about his recent induction into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Here are some highlights of what Henry said about:

Winning The Arnold Classic:

“It meant a lot because that competition is geared toward the heaviest instruments in the world. To win that competition truly proves you are the strongest man. You compete against eight guys, the best in the world. There’s no dodging anybody and you lift the heaviest apparatus. It spoke volumes about my talent. I only had four months to train, because I was with WWE. If I had more time to train, I might’ve done even better. It’s hard to better than first, though, you know?”

His Favorite Moment From His Power Lifting Career:

“Being 19 years old and making the Olympic team on my last lift. I went 6-for-6 and had a perfect Olympic trial. Making the team and being one of the youngest to ever go to the Olympics was pretty special.”

Former WWF Star Doug Furnas Reported To Have Passed Away

17

There are reports circulating online that former WWF star Doug Furnas passed away in his sleep Friday night. He was 50 years old.

The first report is from David Haskins, a Tennessee based wrestler. He said he received the information from Doug’s brother Mike Furnas, who was also a wrestler.

Furnas was a college football player at the University of Tennessee who became one of the greatest powerlifters of all-time as he broke more than two dozen world records. He crossed over to professional wrestling in 1986 with Knoxville, Tennessee based promotion Continental Championship Wrestling, which led him to a career all over the world. Furnas was a fixture in All Japan Pro Wrestling with Phil Lafon (a/k/a Dan Kroffat) and they were considered one of the best tag teams of the 1990s. Their supreme talent led to employment with the World Wrestling Federation and Extreme Championship Wrestling in the late 1990s. Furnas also worked for World Championship Wrestling in 1990 as a singles competitor.

Furnas had battled Parkinson’s disease for a number of years. The degenerative disorder forced him to retire in 2000.

Ross On Undertaker vs. Triple H, Natalya’s Flatulance, Best Diva

21

Jim Ross has published a new blog entry on his official website. Highlights are as follows:

The Undertaker wrestling Triple H for the third time at WrestleMania: “Concerned that Taker vs. HHH is their 3rd Wrestlemania bout? Heck, no. Their history is a vital part of the fabric of WWE, their first match was 11 years ago, and the way the match ended last year with Undertaker being carted out of ‘his event’ adds to the drama. These two, great professionals will make it a daunting task for any one to follow them assuming that they don’t go on last which would surprise me. The mere fact that it is quite likely that HHH vs. Taker will NEVER happen again is enough for this fan to want to see WM28.”

Chris Jericho facing CM Punk at WrestleMania XXVIII: “They have many similar traits that I like and respect. I appreciate each man’s journey to the big dance. I respect that even though many ‘experts’ said that neither would ever ‘make it’ that each persevered and have earned star status. However, at the end of the day, their match isn’t, in my view, about who is the best in the world but rather who will leave Miami as the #1 man in WWE, the WWE Champion.”

Will any WCW fixtures such as Sting and Diamond Dallas Page ever get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame?: “I’d say that there is a good chance that happens. More and more talents who earned their proverbial stripes outside WWE will be inducted in years to come.”

Who’s the best WWE Diva?: “Assuming this is referring to wresting and if so I’d suggest that would be Beth Phoenix. Like many fans, I’d love to see Beth face @Kharma but I have no idea if that will be at WM28 and could be saved for after April 1 when it would possibly get more focus. Obviously, the talents would love for it to be as a part of WrestleMania and I can’t blame them for that.”

Natalya’s flatulence based persona: “Thoughts on Natalya’s flatulence, TV persona? Likely not something that I would have thought of but I can’t recall any time that Ms Neidhart has been in more discussions or the subject of more questions that she is now. Hopefully, this new found notoriety will lead to bigger and better things for her. She has lots of talent.”

Ross also weighs in on best ‘Bounty’ pro wrestling storylines, if he likes Twitter, WWE’s ongoing General Manager storyline and more. His post is available here.
