TNA Planning On Bringing Jeff Hardy’s Real-life Issues To TV

27

Former TNA Wrestling production manager Randy Ricci says that according to reliable sources within the Nashville based organization, current creative plans call for Jeff Hardy’s real-life issues to take center stage on television.

Ricci reports on his blog (nawf.com/blog) that Hardy plans on undergoing treatment for his issues with substance abuse and will enter a rehabilitation facility. Upon his completion of rehab, he will be brought back to television as a babyface recovering from drug addiction.

Hardy was officially written off television on last night’s episode of TNA iMPACT! as Immortal announced they had severed their ties with him.

On March 13 at Victory Road, Hardy received a rematch against Sting for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship under No Disqualification rules, but was defeated in ninety seconds. Behind the scenes, company officials had made the decision to cut the bout short after deeming that Hardy was in no condition to wrestle. The following day it was reported that TNA Wrestling had sent Hardy home from the week’s iMPACT! tapings. He has not appeared for the organization since.

Sarita Recalls Leaving Home To Become A Top Wrestler

5

Years ago, TNA Knockout Sarita left her home in Canada to become a “professional” wrestler in Mexico, where she is known as Dark Angel, as well as an icon of discipline. She discussed her life-changing move during an interview with Milenio Online.

Sarita, who’s real name is Sarah Stock, began wrestling training in December 2001 in her hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. After working for various independent promotions, she moved to Monterrey, Mexico in 2003 in an effort to improve her ability. She packed her suitcase and made the move with little concern for her well-being as she was determined to become an elite performer.

(Note – rough Spanish to English translation)

“So I came in a truck from Winnipeg to New Laredo, and from there to Monterrey,” Stock recalls. “I saw a great adventure and something that I needed to do, but to leave my family, to learn a new culture, the language, the struggle to learn Spanish, but the hardest part was being away from home and how to behave in a different culture to mine

“I did not bring much money when I arrived to Monterrey. A person who makes my equipment rented several rooms in a building, which is where I stayed. It was something very different for me, as my old house had heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer, it was a comfortable house. I came to live in a room made of stone, with the bath and shower outside on the patio, and full of cockroaches, lizards, mice, all of that. I had to get used to it, it was hard. Those changes were far from easy and to live like this was a shock to me.”

In spite of the difficulties, it never passed through her mind to return home, nor was she fearful.

“My parents taught me that regardless if you want to do something there is always a way to do this, I am a woman of challenges and make plans to achieve them,” she said “Nor was I afraid. I do not know if it was youth or the excitement of a new adventure. I thought it was an opportunity to achieve my dream and I was only afraid of my greatest desire and my passion. I just thought about it and not the dangers of what could happen to me.”

At the suggestion of a promoter, Stock began competing while wearing a mask; she also took on a new ring name, Dark Angel. She initially found it difficult to work with the wrestlers in Mexico, as she did not speak Spanish and could not communicate with them throughout the match. On October 17, 2003 she defeated Simply Luscious to win the Lucha Libre Femenil Juvenil Championship. Months later, Stock lost her mask in a forty-five minute mask vs. mask match against Princesa Sujei. Shortly thereafter, she decided to leave Monterrey to move to Mexico City and wrestle for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración. Although Stock began appearing with AAA under the assumption that she would be wrestling, the company had her start out as a ring girl. Stock did not wrestle regularly for AAA, and she stopped appearing for the promotion after a few shows.

Stock signed with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in 2004, AAA’s rival promotion. She began competing regularly for CMLL as Dark Angel in the promotion’s newly-rebuilt women’s division, while also competing for various independent promotions in North America and Europe. Sarah was rewarded for her dedication as on July 1, 2005, she debuted at Arena México, “the cathedral of lucha libre.”

She recalls, “I was nervous before going out, but people responded very well and I felt very excited when fans recognized me, this fight is a memory and an unforgettable feeling.”

Stock has achieved numerous accolades since then and is considered the face of women’s wrestling in Mexico. Her notoriety in the country led her to TNA Wrestling in 2009, where she reigns as one half of the TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions. She sends a message to the dreamers out there.

“You have to take life and seize it,” she says. “Someone will want you to feel less, but if you want to do something, that will start without asking permission. Do not be afraid. It is never too late to follow your dreams.”

Sunny Talks About Returning To WWE, Hall Of Fame & More

5

Former WWE diva Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was interviewed by Slam Wrestling this week about getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Here are some highlights of what Sunny said about: going into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Here are some highlights:

Returning To WWE At MSG A Few Weeks Ago: “On Saturday, a stretch limo arrived at my house to pick me up and bring me into the city. When I got there, I had so much anxious energy that I was bouncing off the walls. Just before the match, I’m at the curtain when all the girls go out to the ring, and Stephanie McMahon comes over and said, ‘Why are you so nervous? This is old hat for you.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, but it’s been like 13 years since I worked this building.’ Well, as soon as my music hit I made the Sunny switch, and every little bit of nervousness left my body, and I went out there and did my thing. It all felt like I never left, and it was just so freakin’ cool!”

* Pictures of Sunny’s Return At MSG 2 Weeks Ago – She How She Looks!

Finding Out She Was Invited To Join The WWE HOF: “I already had it on while I was packing for my trip to Mexico, when all of a sudden the announcement of Shawn Michaels going into the hall of fame comes on. I said to Johnny Ace, ‘That’s great! Good for him, he deserves it,’ as I acted happier than a pig in poop. Then Johnny Ace goes, ‘Well, Vince [McMahon] and I were talking and we’d like you to be the second inductee.’ I paused, and then said, ‘You’re s**ttin’ me right?’ Then he says, ‘No, I’m not s**ttin’ you.’ So of course I started crying and shaking and freaking out. I was thinking to myself, ‘Oh my God, I’m only 38, and usually the people who go into the Hall of Fame are at least 50, or dead by the time they get inducted. All I could think was, ‘Holy crap, this is awesome!'”

Her Hall Of Fame Speech: “I already know that I’m going to totally screw up my speech. That’s 100 percent a given. As Sunny, if you give me a microphone and tell me to go out to the ring and cut a promo, no problem. But I’ve got to get up there and speak from the heart. It’s going to be 100 per cent real — not a work, not a gimmick, not an angle. And that’s how I know I won’t be able to keep it together. Because that’s not going to be Sunny up on that stage talking. It’s going to be Tammy talking. You know how I told you about that Sunny switch? Well, Tammy screws up a lot. Sunny never does. So without the Sunny switch turned on, I’m going to lose it and cry. Wish me luck.”

Edge Talks About Retirement, Life After Wrestling & More

7

WWE World heavyweight champion Edge was interviewed by the Charlotte Observer this week and shed some new light on how much longer he plans to be an active wrestler. Here are some highlights of what Edge said about:

TLC Matches From The Attitude Era: “I’m relieved I don’t have to do it as much. I still get called on to do it every once in a while. I had 19 ladder matches and most guys have never had one. It’s taken a toll. Now everyone understands I only have so many more of those in me.”

His First WrestleMania “The first one that I was on contract for I wasn’t (wrestling) on the show. I was trying to soak it in. For the guys, it’s a huge buildup. You’re really ramped up. It’s our Super Bowl. You worked your whole year to get on the show. That’s what I realized not being on it. The following year at WrestleMania 16, Christian and I teamed up and won the tag-team championship. We grew up together and always dreamed of doing it.”

When He’ll Retire: “Maybe a couple years. Five? It’s up to my body, which also depends on the kinds of matches…. I want to be able to function and walk and hike these hills.”

What He’ll Do After Wrestling: “I might do a sports talk show up in Canada. Maybe working behind the scenes of WWE. Beyond that, writing and illustrating children’s books would be fun.”

Bret Hart Previews WrestleMania: Taker-HHH, Cena-Miz & More

7

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has updated his blog over at BretHart.com with his predictions for Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Bret said about:

Undertaker vs. Triple H: “The Undertaker and Triple H segment with Shawn Michaels played out exactly like I expected, the usual smoke blowing up the rectum stuff, more grunts and then a staring contest, thank God Shawn was there just to add something, anything to it. I suppose there isn’t much else these two legends can do as far as buildup goes but it came across to me as having little imagination, the match itself should be one of the better match ups because Taker brings it all the way for Wrestlemania and Triple H can turn it up when he wants to. Triple H has had some hard fought battles over the years, but I don’t know if he’s ever had his chance to literally blow them away at Wrestlemania but this might be his best chance. Taker, in my opinion, is truly one of the all-time best and time and time again, he has delivered the best match on the show so I expect a good solid match, old school but intense. It could steal the show.”

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk: “I expect that Randy Orton will give a great fight at Mania against CM Punk. This is one that, again, seemed to build up pretty much like I expected; same promo and psychology I envisioned before they even came out on RAW last night. These two are some of my favorites and they’re at the very top of their game. I don’t like to criticize either one of them, but I do wish there was more possibility for the unexpected. The angles are becoming harder and harder to differentiate from what they were doing a few months ago. With the storylines, I know it’s a difficult job to be original in a business where everything has been done, but with two pros like these two, you’d think their buildup could’ve been slightly more unpredictable and actually think up something fitting as far as drama and intrigue. So I guess what I’m saying is the talent is there, I’m curious to see where it all ends up at Mania.”

John Cena vs. The Miz: “As for the Miz versus Cena match, again I thought for sure that The Rock would end up as part of it all along, but maybe not. If not, then I feel very disappointed. Rock brings so much. He looks great and he stoked a fire in me with his blazing promos. if anything, this storyline seems empty without him, which is a shame because Miz and Cena deserve better. This one seems to be all about Rock versus Cena. I thought some of the writing these past weeks came seriously close to killing the goose laying the golden eggs in WWE. I think with the main event, as a fan, I’d like to see them get to the damn point and focus on that, rather than dressing something up to look like a something else. Oh, and by the way the point is the actual wrestling. ”

Bret concluded, “As for the actual line-up, it’s been a slow build for much of the card, but for the past few weeks the promos and backstage situations seemed to be rather plain and flat, totally predictable … I expect an excellent show, but I’m putting my faith in some of the dark horse matchups to make the most noise.”

*Spoilers* WWE SmackDown Tapings Results For Friday

13

The following matches were taped prior to Monday’s RAW from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The rest of the show will consist of footage from WWE’s week-long festivities from Atlanta, site of Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view.

1. Kofi Kingston defeated Wade Barrett by DQ in an Intercontinental Title match. Wade controlled most of the early action. Kofi hit his corner kick and a top rope cross body for a two count. Kofi hit the Boom Drop and went for Trouble in Paradise but was met with a kick to the face for a near fall. Kofi hit a nice move and almost had a two count that was broken up by The Corre. Santino and Kozlov hit the ring but were laid out. Big pyro for Kane and Big Show. The faces cleared the ring and had a stare down with The Corre.

Jerry Lawler out to cut a promo against Michael Cole. Good promo by Lawler. Short and to the point. The King has new music.

2. Cody Rhodes defeated Chris Masters. Taz… er … Kane… No, it’s Cody Rhodes under a black towel. Gimmick Infringement!!! Cole returned during this match (he left prior to Jerry’s promo). Seemed slightly longer than the recent Cody squashes. In the end, a side headbutt and CrossRhodes later and Cody got the win. Rey Mysterio ran down and tried to hit the 619 three different times, but Cody wasn’t having it.

Carter Reinstated On Twitter, Hogan Hoodwinked By Imposter

9

Twitter reinstated TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter’s account today after it was suspended Tuesday due to a breach of the microblogging service’s terms of use.

A background image featuring a photoshopped “Verified Account” badge was recently uploaded to the page. However, only Twitter may indicate that an account is verified. Their terms of service reads: “Misuse of Twitter Badges: You may not use a Verified Account badge or Promoted Products badge unless it is provided by Twitter. Accounts using these badges as part of profile pictures, background images, or in a way that falsely implies affiliation with Twitter will be suspended.”

Numerous users reported the violating account to Twitter, which led to its suspension. The image has now been removed.

Carter recently stopped tweeting, after getting barraged with a multitude of negative messages concerning herself and TNA Wrestling.

Her suspension from Twitter spawned a fake account, which Hulk Hogan bought as legit. The fake account asked Hogan to retweet news concerning TNA in Australia yesterday morning, and he did.

MAILBAG: Trying To Sort Through The Memphis Tapes Fiasco

11

SEScoops Mailbag for March 31st

(submit YOUR questions to [email protected])

Q: Watching Raw over the last month, I can’t help but feel what a missed opportunity WrestleMania 27 is going to be. You have John Cena and The Rock in a series of verbal spars with absolutely no payoff (aside from some great one-liners). Why tease it? Also, it’s completely overshadowing Cena’s match against The Miz for the WWE championship. Why not have Cena face Rock in a dream match and have Miz defend the title against someone else? The only practical answer I can come up with is that maybe Rock can’t wrestle due to some stipulation in a contract with a movie studio. Is this possible? – Matt

A: If Rock were filming a movie as we speak, it’s very possible, even practical, to think that the movie studio would either limit or totally prohibit any physicial activity. But he’s not, so that doesn’t make any sense. I believe Rock had an idea for what he wanted to do at WrestleMania and was dead serious about staying retired, as we had stated in dozens of interviews over the years. When he came back on Raw, he was overwhelmed by the response and started having a lot of fun jabbing back and forth with John Cena, to the point that he started to have a change of heart. The last few weeks, his tune seems to have changed and he doesn’t say he’ll never wrestle again. Unfortunately, this all came too little, too late for this year’s WrestleMania. Had things been different, I would have booked Rock vs. Cena with Miz defending the WWE Title in a Ladder Match against John Morrison.

Q: Why is WWE pushing down main event guys like Wade Barrett and Sheamus? – Boabel

A: They’ve always built guys up only to break them back down. I’m convinced it’s some sort of psychological exercise that Vince puts them through. To be fair though, Wade Barrett totally overachieved and got a bigger push than anyone ever would have imagined right out of the gate. He’s a very good performer, but he’s about at the level he should be right now. With Sheamus, I would not have turned him into a jabroni the way that they did. Another egregious example of this would be the late Andrew Martin (Test), who was one of the biggest babyfaces in the entire company coming out of his 1999 Summerslam match against Shane McMahon before they cut his legs off and killed all of his heat.

Q: Given the current landscape in TNA, how would you close the Immortal storyline in the least screwy and strongest possible way? I feel TNA will need to have strong close to this angle for them to ever have a good chance of rebuilding their credibility going into some sort of new age or era. I maintain that a lot of the hate geared towards TNA at present is because they failed a lot of their fan base when they stopped being a viable alternative to WWE and decided to give Hogan & Bischoff the ropes. The last time they worked this angle (which seems to be the only one they know) they were ‘in power’ the finish was their company being bought out by WWE. What would you do to [ensure] TNA doesn’t suffer a repeat of history? – Dan, London, UK

A: It’s 2011 and I can’t believe I’m still watching Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff as heel leaders of a faction on TV. Back in its early days, TNA went out of its way to market itself as an alternative to WWE, as you said, whereas in the last several years, they’ve decided to be WWE Lite. They will always fail at this because nobody does what WWE does better than WWE (good, bad or otherwise). They have their brand of sports entertainment that, if duplicated, will always be looked at as a copy. If I had the book in TNA, I’d decide which 5 young stars I want to build my company around and begin plotting an exit strategy for this Immortal storyline whereby the babyfaces are not made to look like fools (as they so often are), but rather, they begin conspiring to turn Hulk and Eric against each other. All roads lead to some sort of elimination match for control of the company, which the babyfaces win. At that point, it’s sayonara Hulkster and time to rally around guys like A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, Kazarian and Robert Roode to help get that company back on track.

Q: I read somewhere that the reason WWE is burying Kofi Kingston is because of Kingston’s attitude in the locker room. Several superstars have complained about Kingston being pushy and bossy backstage. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see Kingston on the chopping block. What do you think? – Rachel

A: I’ve never heard a bad word said or read anything about Kofi’s demeanor or backstage attitude. I suppose one can never be certain, but I’m calling bullshit on these rumors until I hear otherwise. That doesn’t mean Kingston isn’t at risk of being released after WrestleMania considering the way he’s been treated of late. If I had to bet, I’d say his job is safe.

Q: I was wondering did everybody not realize when they made the Nexus they were copying the nWo. – Dallas

A: Holy shit, I never realized. Thank you for the insight.

Q: So I just remembered on May 25, 2009 when Mr. Kennedy made a surprise return on Raw and worked a five on five match. What happened with him? He was there for one night and then disappeared without an explanation. I read somewhere he was released after four days, but why would they do that? – Julian

A: Ahh yes, the Denver Debacle. This was when WWE was booted from the Pepsi Center when the Denver Nuggets NBA team made it to the playoffs and their game was given priority over a Raw taping the same night. WWE was forced to move their show to the Staples Center in L.A. where they hosted a five-on-five tag team main event that included a returning Mister Kennedy. Unfortunately for him, he made the mistake of dropping Randy Orton the wrong way on a back suplex. Orton, who’s known for having a short fuse and has broken his clavicle twice, was none too happy about it backstage after the match and chewed out Kennedy in front of everyone for being an unsafe worker. Shortly thereafter, he was gone from the company. The reality is that several top stars (allegedly including John Cena and Shawn Michaels) had complained to Vince McMahon about Kennedy and this was the straw that broke the camel’s toe.

Q: Why doesn’t WWE release a documentary on Memphis wrestling? Thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen USWA or CWA footage on WWE programming. Being from Memphis, I watched an excellent documentary on Memphis wrestling called “Memphis Heat: The True Story of Memphis Wrestling.” So many great moments in the industry happened in the Memphis territory: Lawler-Kaufman, Rocky Johnson, Jimmy Hart’s faction, Jackie Fargo’s strut, Tojo Yamamoto’s wooden shoes, the list goes on and on. Even Rock and Undertaker got their starts in Memphis. So, who owns the rights to the Memphis wrestling video library? – Dirk

A: Plain and simple, the reason WWE has not produced a Memphis wrestling DVD or used Memphis footage of any kind on TV is because they don’t own the rights to the library. As far as who actually owns the tapes, that’s an entirely different mess unto itself. Jerry Lawler and Jerry Jarrett were co-owners of the promotion until business began to sag in the mid-90’s thanks to the booming Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW. In 1997, Lawler got together with a man by the name of Larry Burton to purchase Jerry Jarrett’s half, only to turn around and sell his half to a businessman out of Cleveland named Mark Selker after conning Selker into believing that the USWA was actually a successful national promotion worth millions. Of course, it was neither of those things and the promotion went belly up later that same year. As I understand it, Selker still owns the rights to that footage, which dates back to 1989. Any Memphis master tapes from before then would likely be in Lawler’s possession, though there’s still the question of whether or not he actually owns the rights to use them. If this isn’t confusing enough, Lawler filed a lawsuit last year against Corey Maclin, claiming Maclin went behind his back and sold the rights to all of Lawler’s footage for $20,000 to some phantom buyer who has since produced a 20-volume DVD set, which is now being sold on the internet. No wonder Vince McMahon doesn’t bother with any of the Memphis stuff. He’d have an easier time trying to crack the DaVinci code.

Q: Speaking of FCW, do you ever see the show going on mainstream TV? Smackdown really needs to come off the air already, or get new faces on it. It is the same crap week after week and I would love to see Smackdown get replaced by FCW. – Jeremy County

A: Why would FCW ever be on mainstream, network TV? It’s a regional promotion that serves as a feeder system for WWE, filled with young guys who can’t work and have no name recognition. Moreover, WWE does not want those guys on TV before they make it to Raw, Smackdown or NXT. Now, if their mentality were different, I’d be in favor of offering up either current FCW programming or classic OVW shows on WWE’s Classics on Demand channel, or their eventual cable network. They’re going to need more content anyway and it would be entertaining to watch. But as far as replacing Smackdown on SyFy (which is actually a fine show most weeks), only hold your breath on that one if you promise to move all of your furniture with pointy edges away. I don’t want you hitting your head on it when you pass out.

Q: What happen to that one WCW announcer, Tony Schiavone? Last time I saw him was on TNA in 2003 and I never saw him again. – Eddie Cheese

A: Schiavone also worked for the WWF for a time around 1988-89. As for what he’s been up to, he is currently the play-by-play announcer for the Gwinnett Braves baseball team, Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. He’s also been a morning sports anchor for two different radio stations in the Georgia area and owns his own radio production company. Schiavone has always been a die-hard baseball fan and once remarked in an interview that he would have taken a job in MLB over wrestling, were it offered to him. I always thought he was very good at his job, but he never struck me as someone with a real passion for the business. That said, this may be the greatest question in the history of our sport!

Bruno Sammartino Says “Never Say Never” About WWE HOF

15

Wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino spoke to Atlanta’s Creative Loafing publication this week and was asked once again why he will not accept a WWE invitation to join the Hall of Fame.

“First of all, when they started all this garbage with the nudity and these girls always having accidents where a bra will fall off or whatever, then the vulgarity and the Kiss My Butt Club, and the profanity that they use and stuff like that, I find all that appalling and I was very, very outspoken. Then the drug use, of course, was the most appalling for me. So what kind of a person would I be to accept that ridiculous Hall of Fame after being as outspoken as I was? I think it would be very hypocritical on my part and I would never accept that because I don’t believe in it.”

He did however, leave a faint possibility of him working with WWE again as part of the Hall of Fame:

“I guess one should never say never, but I would have to see an awful lot of change before I would even think of it. A lot more than what I’m seeing now.”

Considering how far WWE has come toning down their product as part of the current “PG era,” one has to wonder how much more change Sammartino is looking for before he’s willing to consider entering the Hall of Fame.

The Rock Says He’s Going To Kick Ass At WrestleMania

7

WWE star The Rock was interviewed by MTV News this week to hype WrestleMania and said we can expect to see him get physical this Sunday night:

“I’m going to take my fist and lay it across somebody’s lips and take my boot — which is a size 14, so it’s a big boot — and stick it straight up somebody’s ass.”

When asked who he might get phyiscal with he said, “Like with any show, like with any movie, you want to make sure the final five, 10 minutes of the show are worth every penny.”

RVD Talks About Loving TNA, Hulk Hogan, Returning To WWE

36

TNA star Rob Van Dam spoke to the UK Sun’s SunSport blog this week and had a lot to say about what led him to join TNA, the differences between TNA and WWE and whether he’d ever return to WWE. Here are the highlights of what RVD said about:

Liking TNA More Than WWE: “Man, I love TNA! It’s a wonderful place to work. Something WWE never let me do were acting jobs, they turned them down for me. But now I’ m in a situation where I can do these things. WWE just didn’t see the potential of these opportunities and they really ruined my chances back then. I was in some very good places and they just blew it for me, by refusing point blank to negotiate anything. Whereas Dixie Carter lets us explore our possibilities and gives us that chance. Her philosophy is that our extended profile helps TNA enhance its own, and of course it does.”

What Led Him To Join TNA: “When my contract ended with the WWE, TNA tried to get me straight away but I said no. They had big plans for me, it seemed, and a spot in the Main Event Mafia was brought up. But I’m not, and never have been, one for sharing the spotlight. I prefer to be the star and in the limelight by myself.

“Plus WWE had really burned me out. My contract stated I’d be given breaks and they never gave them to me. They did that constantly and they probably wrecked the chances of many guys going back by treating the talent that way.”

“Eric Bischoff called me, Dixie Carter called me, even Jason Hervey picked up the phone. But I said to myself that they were not serious because Hogan hadn’t called yet. Then he did, I was doing my radio show and Hogan called in. The guy spent a half hour explaining on the air why I should join him in TNA. That was what got me here.”

The Possibility of Returning To WWE: “Dixie is a real people person, she is what fuels TNA, we all feed of her enthusiasm for the company. She wants first hand connection with our fans. It’s so different to how Vince McMahon runs his company. At this stage of my career they take so much better care of me, than the WWE ever did at any point. I’d go as far as to say I mean more to TNA than I ever did in WWE.

Fair play to anyone who does go back but, you know, I was so burned out and had so much trouble in my last year there that I just wanted away from that scenario. I couldn’t enjoy going out to the ring and doing my thing, it was killing me. My contract ended and I wanted out, they offered me a new one and I said no. I’m so happy being able to have the freedom at last to juggle my other projects and still go out each night and be the whole FN show.”

Snooki Talks About Training For WM27, Trish Talks LayCool

6

– The Hollywood Reporter had an article up yesterday about how Snooki was boo’d at the WrestleMania 27 press conference in New York City. Regarding her training for WrestleMania, she said:

“It kind of came naturally to me. I did gymnastics for eight years, and I have been cheerleading since middle school … I am going to rehearse this weekend for Mania and will incorporate my gymnastics skills.”

Snooki also said she used to watch WWE because she thought a former star was attractive but stopped watching:

“When they gave me this opportunity, I started watching it again to see what I would do and what’s happening,. And I really enjoyed it.”

– Snooki’s tag team partner this Sunday, Trish Stratus, was interviewed this week by Diva-Dirt.com and had this to say about Michelle McCool and Layla El, who they will face this Sunday in a 6-person mixed tag match also involving John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler:

“The opportunity came up to work with LayCool, which I’m so excited about. I mean they’ve done such great work, people love to hate them. As a fan, I’ve sat back and I’ve watched, especially Layla , watched them grow into great workers. They’ve put in the work to develop their characters.”

WWE Banking On The Rock, Snooki & Social Media To Sell WM27

9

WWE is hoping that the addition of The Rock and Snooki to WrestleMania 27 will help them break 1 million pay-per-view buys. They’re also hoping that the use of social media like Facebook and Twitter will influence people to order the show.

In an interview with Multi-Channel News this week, WWE’s Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Wilson said that WWE is firmly behind the idea of using social media (specifically Facebook and Twitter).

Wilson said they were trying to bring back former fans with The Rock and new fans with the Snooki storyline.

Wilson talked about fans being able to go to The Rock’s Facebook page for his response to what John Cena did to him on RAW.

She said, “That allows us to continue the storyline even after we’re off the air. It’s really a 24-hour engagement that our fans have with the WWE going into WrestleMania.”

Randy Orton Says He Is Uncomfortable As A Babyface

9

WWE RAW superstar Randy Orton spoke with Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun week to hype Sunday’s WrestleMania pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Orton said about:

Is He Comfortable As a Babyface: “Absolutely not. I’m definitely growing as a good guy, as a babyface. I’ve got to walk a fine line, Kevin, because as a bad guy, as a heel, I go so comfortable in that role, I think I eventually earned the respect of the fans. And it wasn’t some master plan to become a good guy one day. I was dead set on being a heel the rest of my career. I figured there’s no way I’ll ever be a good guy. But the fans, they’re powerful, and when they speak together like they did, I started getting positive reactions. I’d be in the ring with a babyface as a heel, but they’d be chanting for me. It’s just one of those things where I just had to make the switch. But I think where I succeeded this time, where I failed back in’04 after I became the youngest champ in history and became babyface, I didn’t change too much. I think that’s very important. That respect I earned from the fans as a bad guy, I don’t want to lose that. And if all of a sudden I’m coming out and I’m trying to be like John Cena, that typical white meat babyface, kissing babies, hugging grandmas, slapping high-five swith everybody in the front row, that’s not going to work. If I come out pumping my fist and smiling, it’s going to make people want to barf. So I really had to walk that fine line and change, but just change enough to where it works for me and my character.”

How He Feels Not Being In One Of The top Matches At WrestleMania: “It’s a good question, but I believe in every Mania, every pay-per-view, Raw, Smackdown or live event I’m in, my goal – and I would hope that everyone else’s goal on the roster – would be to the steal the show, and the pressure is always there. Whether it’s a stage like WrestleMania or another pay-per-view or just TV or a live event, you’ve still got the same fans out there. The WWE Universe is watching and you’ve got to perform. You’ve got to live up to the expectations that you have laid out. Me and CM Punk, we’re not fighting for a title, but if you look back, we’ve got a three-year story line in the making. I cost him the WWE championship back in ’08 when I was returning from a collar bone injury just after the birth of my daughter. I remember it vividly. I punted him in the back of the head backstage on a day when he was champ and was going to defend the title at a pay-per-view. He wasn’t able to even perform in the match because I kicked him in the head, cost him the title. If I was him I would have done the same thing. He came back at the Rumble, cost me the title, but as far as I’m concerned, that made us even. Anything after that, I’m sorry, Phil Brooks, CM Punk. I’m going to destroy him April 3 at WrestleMania XXVII. That’s just how it’s going to go.”

Wrestlers Having Tour Buses & How It Helps Their Marriages: “A lot of guys actually don’t travel by tour bus ; there’s five of us. I think to be able to be at a point in your career where you’ve earned it and you can afford it, I think anyone would be stupid not to do it. What the tour bus does for me – my family coming with me, that’s just the cherry on top – I don’t have to travel 200 and 300 miles a night driving till 3 or 4 a.m. looking for that Denny’s that’s open or that drive-thru at McDonald’s and getting a couple chicken sandwiches and taking the bun off and shoving it down my throat. I got a kitchen, king-size bed, a couple TVs, a washer and dryer, a shower, a bathroom, deep sinks – I’m set. I can travel anywhere around the country, and I can get flat after a match. I think the biggest thing when it comes to injuries and stuff, travel has a big part in that. Because after a match, guys hit the road and they’re in a sitting position. They’re not able to ice up or do whatever they have to do therapy-wise. Being in a car driving like that, it’s just not good on your back, and our backs take a lot of abuse with all the bumps we take in the ring. Our body in general takes a hell of a beating, and that bus allows me to recover – that’s the biggest thing right there. It’s worth every penny because I’m able to recover more than I would in a rental car. Waiting in lines, looking for hotels, reserving rental cars, just plugging in an address into your GPS and hoping that address eventually leads you to a gym and not some middle of the subdivision where the address was wrong. There are lots of things that go into that bus that make it worth its weight in gold, but the No. 1 thing for me is the recovery time that I get having the bus that I didn’t have in the rental cars.”

* Matt Striker, the emcee, hyped up a special mystery guest but they didn’t appear due to the bad weather and traffic.

* The WWE Superstars and Divas arrived in limousines and most of them had Make-A-Wish kids as their dates.

JR Blog: His Role At WM27, Main Event, Cole-Lawler, The Rock

4

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety over at JRsBarBQ.com. This latest blog has a WrestleMania theme – here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

His Potential Role at WrestleMania: “I have no ‘assignment’ for Sunday but I’m channeling Ricky Vaughn, Charlie Sheen’s character in the film ‘Major League,’ and assuming the role of the relief pitcher while standing by in the bullpen and ready to ‘throw the heater, Ricky’ if needed.”

Whether The Rock Will Get Physical: “Someone asked me if I thought @TheRock was going to get physically involved Sunday on PPV in the Miz vs. Cena WWE Title Bout. Facetiously, I answered “Oh, no Rock’s going to turn the other cheek and let bygones be bygones.” If Rock doesn’t get physical Sunday in some shape, form or fashion I will allow burnt orange to be displayed in our home.”

Which Match Will Close The Show: “What match will close the show Sunday? Whether it is The Streak or the WWE Title the WWE seems to be destined to be ‘damned if they do and damned if they don’t’ with this one. I’d be a Streak lean but closing the show with the WWE Title, Rock, etc would work for me as well.”

Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler: “People have asked me for a prediction on the Lawler vs Cole match. Really. Really? Lawler wins in a ‘quicker than a hiccup’ bout and King won’t need Stone Cold to get it done. The thought of having to broadcast a Cole victory would be more annoying than an irritable bowel. Thank goodness that chore or possibility thereof will be left up to others or so it seems.”
