— Championship Wrestling International announced Thursday that Kevin Nash has been pulled from their 2011 East Coast Invasion due to his obligations with WWE. The ten-day tour kicks off today in the eastern region of Canada.
“Wrestling fans, we regret to inform you that Kevin Nash will not be with us for the Invasion Tour of the Maritimes,” said Donnie Abrue, Head of Talent Relations.
“As most fans are aware, Kevin Nash recently returned to World Wrestling Entertainment. Nash has been under contract to WWE for several months and was free to work elsewhere as long as WWE wasn’t in need of his services at that time. Nash competed in the main event for CWI this past May without any issue.”
— Gail Kim announced today on Twitter that she had to cancel her advertised appearance at this November’s Wizard World Austin Comic Con in Austin, Texas. She did, however, reveal that she will be appearing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania next week, but did not release further details.
Former WWE superstar Chris Jericho appeared on the Between The Ropes radio show this week – and we’ve got a detailed recap below.
Jericho has been performing with his metal band Fozzy in recent months, but has indicated on several occasions that he’s open to returning to WWE when the time is right.
Here are some highlights of what Jericho said about:
Whether he can believe it’s been 12 year since his WWE debut:
“It doesn’t really seem like it was 12 years unless I think really hard about all the stuff that’s taken place since then. But I can remember writing that promo that I did like it was yesterday in the apartment I was in on the floor, just kind of writing down ideas and writing out the whole promo because back in that time there was no writers or creative as they call it. It was basically you were just on your own. You might have a couple of ideas to throw around but most of it was just coming from your own brain and just saying it the way you wanted to say it. There was no rehearsals or anything like that. You would just go out there and do it. So that’s the biggest change between the WWE in 2011 and the WWE of 1999.”
The current PG-13 programming in WWE:
“I don’t care about PG-13 or Attitude Era. If you’re a great performer, you can make it work no matter what it is. And I never really cared because I might have gone 5% into the Attitude Era or 5% into the overly PG era but I pretty much just did my thing and made it work with whatever was given to me by the boss of the company. That’s a copout if people say ‘well, I don’t like it because it’s PG-13 or I can’t work within the PG-13 system’. That’s BS. It doesn’t matter. If you’re a good guitar player, you can play Van Halen or Georg Jensen jazz. It’s just an excuse.”
Simplistic storylines and playing into the current one with CM Punk:
“That’s what it’s always been about man. It’s always been about that and the best guys can do that no matter what rules or guidelines are given to them. That’s why the Punk thing worked so good because it was something different. It was Punk vs. the status quo of the WWE. It wasn’t so much the insider topics. I’m sure guys like you and me thought that was funny but your average person doesn’t have a clue about stuff like that. They just know that Punk is doing something he’s not supposed to be doing and saying something he’s never said before. That’s also why I don’t think the thing (Kevin) Nash worked out so well this week because they went too inside.”

It was reported earlier today that a promoter who reached out to former WWE talent Melina Perez to book her for an independent wrestling event was informed by her representative that she is asking for $3,000 per appearance, as well as first class travel and hotel accommodations. Reigning PWG World Champion Kevin Steen, who has competed on the independent circuit for over ten years, made fun of the former WWE Diva’s reported asking fee.
He wrote on Twitter, “$3000 plus first class air and hotel?! Fuck…I’ve been charging way too little…”
A Twitter user then asked Steen, “Is there any real evidence that claim is accurate?” He responded, “Who cares?! I want to make fun of it. So it’s true.”
Ring of Honor talent Colt Cabana also lampooned Melina’s reported demands, writing to Steen on Twitter: “My wrestling fee has now gone from 2 diet cokes and a cupcake to 3 bajillionfajillion dollars… Pay up promoters!”
Steen then wrote a message predicting that John Morrison will follow Melina’s lead out of WWE and work indy shows alongside her. He wrote to Cabana: “I think that once her boyfriend gets released, promoters can save on (transportation) and book both of them. She’ll just ride with him.”
Anarchy Championship Wrestling promoter Darin Childs also gave his take on the matter, writing on the microblogging website, “As a promoter I should never do things like this, buuuut can we all LOL together at Melina’s appearance demands?”
Meanwhile, Melina garnered numerous messages today on her Twitter account regarding the claim and privately indicated to some users that it is untrue.
— Gail Kim, who is currently under contract to WWE, is being advertised to appear at the Wizard World Austin Comic Con. The event takes place November 11-13, 2011 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
Other wrestling talent slated to appear include Maria Kanellis, Candice Michelle, Charlie Haas and Brimstone (who lists himself as an actor, author, philanthropist and comic book hero, in addition to professional wrestler).
— It was reported last week that former ECW star Axl Rotten was seeking donations on Twitter because he would be evicted from his home if he didn’t come up with $5,000. He caught wind of the report and says it is absolutely untrue.
Rotten released the following statement: “Yes, I am having financial issues right now (along with millions of other Americans) I DID NOT EVER post anything asking for fans to give me $5000. I have asked for support from “friends and fans” alike. I want this to be made 100% clear! Yes, times are very tight for me, I’m working hard at going back to school, finding a “9 to 5″ job and seeking as many bookings as I can get.”
— Territory League has announced that Rikishi will face Gene Snitsky on August 27, 2011 in Sun Valley, California. Kizarny is also scheduled for the event.
Last week on SmackDown, we saw developmental wrestler Hunico make his WWE television debut, donning the mask of Sin Cara while the original Sin Cara (Luis Ignascio / Mistico) finishes up this 30-day suspension this week.
A WWE source has informed us that it was in fact Hunico working as Sin Cara once again at Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings from Bakersfield, Californi – set to air on Syfy this Friday night.
Luis Ignascio, will be eligible to return to WWE this weekend – but many are questioning whether he’ll be brought back at all. After a rocky start in WWE over the past several months due to blown spots, poor matches and an overall underwhelming rookie year, the original Sin Cara reportedly has “nuclear” backstage heat on him.
– Former WWE star John Bradshaw Layfield posted an interesting blog on Facebook today – explaining that he feels the pay-per-view industry is on the verge of being totally revolutionized, and it will be to the benefit content providers of WWE, TNA and UFC.
“PPV will change also dramatically over the next decade. PPV sold over the Internet is in its infancy, but with Internet enabled TVs growing-that will change.
Now imagine this. WWE or UFC does a PPV and they really now do sell it worldwide. Every Internet receiver in the world can buy it-no longer do they have to rely on a local Internet company in China or India-they own their own channel and sell it direct. This involves an education process, but one I think is taking place and will happen over the next 7-10 years.
PPV numbers will go up by a multiple of what they are now and all revenue is kept by the content owner. WWE could sell the PPV for $4.99 in Africa or China where they don’t have a cable partner and you can’t charge as much-but open it up to millions that way. Or, if you sell it for the current amount-you keep all the money.
Costs are a onetime issue. They remain the same-so all the extra income is pure bottom line profit.
See a change coming? I do.
A smaller group like TNA that has still marketable recognizable worldwide stars can do this as well and wouldn’t need cable deals all over the world to make it work. The Internet gives them a worldwide cable deal that they own. To me, this should be their model now.
I believe UFC will be the biggest sport in the world due to the fact that they can draw stars from virtually every continent and use them in front of their worldwide audience. When it comes time for a company with a billion people worldwide watching weekly to sell PPVs-what is five million buys. Futuristic? Yes. Will it happen? I believe it will.
So is wrestling dead? Not by a long shot, in fact it’s best days could easily be ahead-it’s just the way it is distributed will change…for the better.
Makes a Wrestling god want to come back….OK, maybe not, but will be fun to watch. “

Maxine, who appeared as a contestant on the third season of NXT, resurfaced on tonight’s episode.
The program kicked off with Hornswoggle proposing to A.J. as he got down on one knee and gave her a candy ring. Derrick Bateman interrupted the proceedings and argued with Hornswoggle’s protégé, Titus O’Neil. Hornswoggle and O’Neil chased Bateman to the backstage area, leaving A.J. alone in the ring. Maxine then jumped A.J. from behind, laying her out.
Bateman was later accompanied by Maxine for his match against O’Neil and revealed that she is his girlfriend as well as the love of his life. Maxine then spoke and said Hornswoggle can’t handle a real woman like her.
Maxine interfered on Bateman’s behalf during the match, grabbing O’Neil’s foot. This allowed Bateman to roll-up O’Neil for the pinfall victory. Post-match, the newly formed couple proceeded to make out while O’Neil complained to the referee about her interference.

– During a recent interview with ABS-CBN News at WWE’s “Be A Star” event from Los Angeles last week to promote SummerSlam, WWE star John Cena spoke about what would happen if he ever stepped in the ring with boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. Cena had no problem admitting that Pacquiao would make short work of him:
“I think it would be very quick, and the decision would be obvious. Manny Pacquiao will knock me out in the 1st round.”
“If Manny will enter the WWE, I would have to work a lot on my quickness. He is lightning quick. So just give me a little bit of warning if he decides to (enter the WWE).”
“I have a lot of respect (for Pacquiao). He’s done so much, not only for the Philippines. His popularity has transcended.”

Keibler is so smitten by her new man that she wrote the following on Twitter over the weekend:

“RT @deepakchopra Love never forces. Love is intelligent and brings only what you need.”
“I am the luckiest girl in the world!!!!”
“When u know, u just know…”
SportsBusinessDaily.com is reporting that the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) organization has signed a blockbuster multi-year deal with FOX broadcasting that will see UFC programming airing on FOX networks (Fox, FX, Fuse) for the next seven or eight years.
According to the report on SBD, the deal is worth as much as $90 million per year and as many as four live UFC events will air on Fox each year, marking the first time UFC will be broadcast on network television.
As part of the deal, most of the weekly programming that UFC has on Versus and Spike TV will move to FX starting in January. That includes UFC’s live Fight Night cards as well as the company’s hit reality series “The Ultimate Fighter.”
UFC had reportedly been negotiating with NBC/Comcast for several months, but those talks recently broke down.
As for what this means to the pro wrestling business – this is either great news for TNA or a very very bad sign. It’s no secret that Spike TV executives have considered totally re-branding the network, which has seen lackluster ratings from programming geared towards males 18-34. While UFC’s departure makes TNA Wrestling its highest rated content provider, this could push Spike in the direction of dropping wrestling as well in favor of shows that appeal more to women and families.
John Cena wrote the following on Twitter in response to comments from fans after last night’s RAW:
“CeNation. Amazing to see in times of crisis, and change, who your freinds are. Thanks to all of u who never give up…. And for those that wish for our demise, now is when we rise above the hate, and overcome. Can’t wait to get my hands on Del Rio. Yawn ..stop looking at this bizz in black and white. I am not a “heel” or a “face”, I am me. I find it comical that u truly believe. That archaic ideology still exists. Today, wwe fans cheer for who they please, which is why I love this company. I should mail u a pair of my shorts, because your stuck in 1993.
I thought I made it pretty clear at contract signing where I stood. I guess there’s a lot of folks out there whose capacity is as limited as “my offense”. :) I back those who back me. And those who back me, get ready for one Helluva few months! Rise Above Hate. This “soap box moment ” was brought to you by Fruity Pebbles. :) Thanks again to ALL those who never give up.”
Next year’s WrestleMania 28 from Miami could be the third WrestleMania to feature a boxing match, according to a report on BoxingScene.com.
Heavyweight boxer Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett, a good friend of John Cena, says he is interested in fighting David Tua for a third time at WrestleMania next April.
Barrett told the Boxing Scene that he plans to speak to Cena about putting the fight together. Barrett says he’s already exchanged text messages with Cena, who said he’d talk to WWE officials about it.
Barrett, who is currently dealing with a broken jaw suffered in his fight against Tua this weekend, says he wouldn’t mind having the match in a steel cage.
David Tua is a member of the Anoa’i family and is the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i.
As previously mentioned, this would not be the first time a boxing match was featured at WrestleMania. WrestleMania 2 featured a worked boxing fight between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. T, while WrestleMania XV featured a legitimate tough-man fight between Bart Gunn and Butterbean.
– Former WWE champions John Cena and CM Punk were said to be “ecstatic” with their match following Sunday’s Summerslam pay-per-view. After tearing down the house at Money in the Bank with a Match of the Year-caliber performance, Cena and Punk silenced critics that questioned whether they could follow up with another classic.
Overall, the general consensus in WWE is that SummerSlam was a great show.
– An SEScoops.com reader who attended SummerSlam said he didn’t see too many fans using the new “Live Commentary” radios that WWE began selling on Sunday, which allows fans to hear ringside commentary at live events.
– As reported earlier, the Young Bucks (former TNA tag team Generation Me) received a WWE tryout on Monday afternoon prior to RAW from San Diego. They reportedly worked a match against California indy wrestlers Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky, who were also being evaluated for possible employment.
Scorpio Sky was one of the security guards that stopped CM Punk from getting to the ring where Kevin Nash was during RAW.
Matt Jackson of Generation Me wrote on Twitter that it was a “very interesting day” while his brother Nick asked his followers where the Young Bucks should wrestle next.
— TNA Wrestling has released the promotional poster for Bound For Glory, which takes place Sunday, October 16 at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
— On Twitter, Velvet Sky was asked to name which woman which she would like wrestle that she hasn’t before. She replied, “Lita!!!”
The TNA Knockout has stated in the past that Lita inspired her to enter the world of professional wrestling.
Sky also noted that she won’t be appearing on Impact Wrestling until next week’s show.
— Madison Rayne has changed her Twitter handle to twitter.com/MRayneTNA.
