CM Punk Crashes San Diego Comic-Con, Confronts Triple H

50

CM Punk crashed the joint Mattel/WWE panel—WWE: Past, Present and Future—this afternoon at the San Diego Comic-Con, featuring Triple H, Rey Mysterio and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart.

Punk announced himself via bullhorn and then, with the WWE Championship in hand, sauntered to the designated question-asking microphone and began to speak. The Straight Edge Superstar took exception to WWE attempting to crown a new champion on Raw and then challenged Mysterio, or anyone else who wanted to be champ, to head out to Chicago to take him on.

Punk then asked Triple H and creative writer Brian Gewirtz why Zack Ryder wasn’t on television. Triple H, in what appeared to be a kayfabe response, told Punk that things had changed on Raw and there was a new regime. He told Punk to give him a call. Punk responded by telling Hunter that he was certain Stephanie had his number.

As you’ll notice – Punk is once again wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt, another sign that Punk is hoping to eventually get Austin to come out of retirement for one more match.

Here’s the video footage of the incident:

WWE Unhappy With Sin Cara Discussing Drug Test Failure

23

WWE officials are reportedly very upset with Sin Cara publicly discussing the circumstances behind his recent drug test failure with Record, a Mexican sports publication. More specifically, they’re upset with his claim that he didn’t understand why he was being suspended.

The masked grappler believes a routine injection to his knee to alleviate persistent pain containing steroids triggered a false positive. He denied being a steroid user, reasoning that his body could not support it.

Sin Cara said his knee injury treatment is used by numerous wrestlers in Mexico. The treatments are normal for his body, but because it was not in compliance with WWE’s drug testing policy, he was suspended.

Regarding speculation that he may not return to WWE after his suspension is lifted, Sin Cara said his status will be cleared up when he meets with officials this week. He believes he will return to the company.

Eric Bischoff Talks Impact On The Road, Hogan-Sting, X-Division

30

Monday Night Mayhem Recap with Eric Bischoff
Hosted By The Big Mos & “The Chairman Of The Board” Todd Vincent
Heard LIVE Monday Evenings @ 7PM ET/6PM CT

IMPACT Wrestling’s Eric Bischoff was one of the featured guests on this week’s live edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. You can feel The Mayhem every Monday evening (at 7PM ET/6PM CT), exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network.

You can listen to Bischoff’s appearance on The Mayhem by clicking here (MP3).

Here are some highlights from the interview:

What wrestling fans can expect from the X-Division now that the Destination X Pay-Per-View has come & gone:

“One of the things that confused/frustrated me when i first got here was the X-Division. One of the things I first talked about in creative meetings was ‘What is the X-Division? Can someone please define it to me?’ It really never got a straight answer. One of the things we have realized in the last couple of weeks is that everyone knows that in the X-Division, that style of wrestling works really well, but it’s incumbent on us, as producers, if we want to showcase that style of wrestling to clearly define it in a way that fans can understand, and then have the discipline to stick with it.”

Whether the upcoming iMPACT Wrestling TV tapings (in Huntsville, AL, Knoxville, TN, & Macon, GA) should be seen as an experimental trial by TNA & Spike TV or something that will be an long-term investment for the viewing audience:

“It’s a little bit of both. We knew when we went on the road last March that we wanted to prove a point. We wanted to show people that we could pull it off from a financial point of view. We wanted to prove to the network that it would have an impact on the overall quality of the show, and we were successful, which led to what we are going to do this fall. Hopefully, what we do this fall is going to prove that it has long-term viability & sustainability. And if we are successful, as we were in March, my hope individually is Spike TV & the executives at TNA decide that this is the best strategy for this brand. I think that’s the one thing that will change the trajectory of this brand * this company for the better, and it is taking the show on the road.”

What he feels would be the market for a proposed Hulk Hogan/Sting in-ring showdown and why, if it happened, could be a “phenomenal event”:

“It’s hard to say. It’s a little bit early, but if you look at the fan reaction to the storyline so far, I would have to say that the market would be pretty good for it. I think you have got two icons, two of the biggest names in the history of the business, who are probably nearing the end of their respective careers. I think naturally people would love to see that match for a lot of reasons. There will be some that probably does not want to see that match for their own reasons, but I think the storyline will ultimately dictate how big the market is for that match. Given the performances that we have seen out of Hulk Hogan & Sting as of late, I’ve got high expectations. If everything else is right, and Hulk is feeling it, and he’s in good enough shape, and Sting is feeling it and really wants it, I think it could be a phenomenal event if it occurs.”

Cabana Reveals How Much He Knew About Punk’s Raw Promo

18

Colt Cabana appeared on Busted Open with Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca, which airs Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sirius 92 and XM 207. Highlights from his interview are as follows:

Colt Cabana on knowing about CM Punk’s promo in advance: “I knew his contract was expiring and I basically see Punk everyday when he’s not on the road and he constantly told me his frustrations for what was going on, how he felt disrespected. All these things he let loose on air. And he kept on telling me about the power of a live microphone and how important it was….and a couple of weeks later he says a microphone in anyone else’s hand is a microphone but in his hand it’s a pipe-bomb. So for when he was ready to go, I knew it. I knew it was gonna happen.

“He kind of said, ‘Hey make sure you watch tonight. It’s gonna be fun.’ In the first segment he was out there with Shawn Michaels and he got a couple of rips on Shawn Michaels and he was joking around in the ring and looked really loose and natural and I thought it was awesome…but then two hours later at the end of the show and I was like ‘Oh, that wasn’t what he was talking about! This is gonna be amazing!’ and then he sat down and went to work. It was so cool and it’s like you said, he’s all the talk right now because of him. It was nothing nobody wrote for him, no storyline that somebody was trying to get across. It was him, people listening to his words, hearing his frustration. It’s made for great television and it’s made for people to watch wrestling again.”

Colt Cabana on Punk speaking from the heart and no catchphrases: “We talk about it all the time when writers will come with ideas and he’ll just be like ‘Nope…I’ll say what I want to say.’ And they’re like ‘Oh, okay.’ And obviously that’s how it determines the storyline and what-not. So for years now almost on TV when Punk, as soon as he kind of got comfortable with the suits and all that stuff, he says his own words and it’s really his own promos. He puts them the way he wants to do. He’s a magician on that microphone. His ability to talk has always been top notch. Even the first year of shows we were doing in Milwaukee or Minnesota he’s always great on the microphone.

“So for anyone to write that would be crazy…anyone except him. He’s the only one possible to do that. But yeah, nobody knew it. I know for a fact it was, ‘Hey I’m gonna get the microphone and just say what I want.’ And he did and it was amazing. There wasn’t any catch phrases, you know that’s what I don’t think people realize. He didn’t come back and say ‘La la la la la’ or ‘I’m Awesome’ or whatever. There was no catchphrases, and nobody saying ‘What?!’ and nobody singing along. It was people sitting down and listening to him talk. Just like a real f’n person. And because he just spoke his mind without catch phrases it was just the way he thinks, it blew up the internet, it blew up Twitter, it blew up YouTube, it blew up Facebook and it blew up the wrestling world.”

Colt Cabana on being a free agent, open to going back to WWE and hates that his WWE Legacy is “Scotty Goldman”: “I have zero contract with anybody right now. I’m a free agent, I’m like an underground band, I’m a cult’s wrestler if you will. I’m really on the underground and I would be more than open to talk with the WWE and really right that wrong. I almost want to go back there because I can’t live with the fact that was my run in WWE. It really eats at me. Don’t get me wrong I am so happy right now in my career mentally, physically, financially; everything is going great it’s everything I’ve ever wanted.

“But that fan of the Junkyard Dog when I was eight in me still isn’t happy with what Scotty Goldman was on WWE Television. So a little bit of me would be happy. If not, fine. I’m doing great with myself right now. Either way, I just want to make sure that I’m still in wrestling, that I’m still relevant, that people are checking out my web series, people are listening to my podcast and they’re digging me. And right now they are. If you want to judge that, or if there needs to be a table, I have 40,000 Twitter followers or what-not, and I know that’s a lot more than some of the guys from WWE. So right now Colt Cabana is pretty powerful than most of the guys on the television there at least on the undercard.”

Colt Cabana on the world looking for something different in wrestling and CM Punk is that: “I thought it was stale for a bit, but now Punk is really reviving some interest in it…I think the world needs to realize it, is that CM Punk is a six-foot whatever, tattooed, the guy never showers….you know just a punk kid and he’s the number one thing in wrestling right now. And it doesn’t have to be 6’4” full of muscles, tribal tattoos or whatever it is, six pack, eight pack abs…I think the world is looking for something different and I think that if they realize that ‘Wow here’s our new leader’ you know and he’s nothing like there has ever been before.

“And if the world of wrestling realizes that, then I think wrestling will be okay. But until then, and this is not just WWE but everybody else is the world of wrestling, if they keep on going back to what worked 30 years ago and go backwards instead of going forward, then God save us all. But hopefully he’s starting a new trend. Like he said, he’s the voice of the voiceless, and hopefully he can speak loudest for the misfits in this world who are capable of a lot more than people give us credit for.”

Punk At Comic Con, Hall’s Son Training, Vince Not Taking Bumps

12

– Scott Hall’s 20-year-old son Cody is currently training to be a pro wrestler at the I Believe in Wrestling school in Orlando, Florida.

– The reason John Laurinaitis was with Vince McMahon at Money in the Bank for the run-in is because Vince has been told by his doctors not to take any bumps, according to the Wrestling Observer.

– As we reported earlier this week, the storyline of CM Punk leavin with the WWE championship is expected to continue off television. Punk’s name will not be mentioned on WWE television and WWE stars have been told not to acknowledge Punk if they do any interviews. That said, WWE has been working to get Punk booked for appearances on late night television shows, high-profile radio interviews and more.

Punk’s next public appearance will be at the San Diego Comic Con event this week.

VIDEO: Zack Ryder’s Z! True Long Island Story (Ep. 23)

10

WWE’s Internet champion is back with another installment of his Z! True Long Island Story:

UFC President Dana White Visits WWE Headquarters

9

UFC president Dana White recently wrote on Twitter that he visited WWE headquarters in Stanford, Connecticut for a meeting with Vince McMahon.

During an interview with USA Today to promote the UFC’s return to the Philadelphia market, White said that he looks up to Vince McMahon in many ways.

While he did not divulge specific details as to the nature of the meeting, White said that he emulates WWE’s business model and called Vince “the guy that basically created the pay-per-view market.”

There has been recent talk that WWE and the UFC would be working together in some capacity on a merchandising deal involving Brock Lesnar, so its possible this is one of the matters discussed during the meeting of the kings of the pay-per-view industry.

White also spoke about Brock Lesnar’s condition in the interview, saying the former UFC heavyweight champion is recovering from his latest bout with diverticulitis and expects to see him fighting again next January.

Sin Cara Explains How He Could Have Failed A Wellness Test

55

Earlier this week, it was announced that WWE star Sin Cara has been suspended for 30 days due to a violation of the company’s Wellness policy.

  • To catch up on all the news regarding Sin Cara’s suspension, head over to our Sin Cara news page.

During an interview with Mexican newspaper The Record, Sin Cara has made his first public comments regarding the situation.

According to Sin Cara, WWE management recently informed him that he had a drug test and tested positive for steroids. Sin Cara said he asked WWE for more information. He added that many medications contain steroids and could result in a violation – and he believes that it’s possible an injection given to him by a doctor is what resulted in the failed drug test.

He stated he would be meeting with Vince McMahon to discuss the issue.

JR Blog: McMahon Angle, Sin Cara’s Suspension, WWE Title

10

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read it its entirety over at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

The Vince McMahon Angle On RAW: “It certainly sets up numerous, new, storyline opportunities which will hopefully be capitalized upon in the near and long term future. What changes will be made under HHH’s watch, if any, and how will those assumed changes affect the presentation of WWE’s top TV priority?”

“As a fan and after working with and for Mr. McMahon for many years, I simply can’t see the sports entertainment visionary “going quietly into the night.” That’s TBD I assume and will be one of the catalysts that encourage fans to tune into Raw Monday night. ”

The Vacant WWE Championship:  “At least we do know that a new, WWE champion will be crowed Monday night between Rey Mysterio and the Miz. Tough spot for both to be in considering that CM Punk won the WWE Title in the ring against the former champion John Cena. Whoever wins between Mysterio and Miz or even the MITB winner Alberto Del Rio, will be standing in the shadow of Punk who has left the company and apparently has zero plans to return in the immediate future of which I am aware.”

Sin Cara’s Wellness Violation & Suspension: “What happened to Sin Cara? According to the WWE website, Cara violated the rules of the Wellness Program which resulted in him receiving a 30 day suspension. Some fans didn’t even know what the Wellness Program is and the best way that I can explain it is that the Wellness Program is essentially WWE’s drug policy. Very unfortunate for the fans, WWE, and especially for the Talent. I like and endorse ‘2nd chances’ if they are deserved and desired by all parties. Time will tell on this one.”

Sin Cara Update, WWE Working With ROH, Punk-Ebay

43

– As we’ve been reporting, Sin Cara’s Wellness violation actually occurred back in June, despite the fact it took almost a month for WWE to announce his suspension. One story going around is that Sin Cara told WWE that he could produce a prescription for the substance he tested positive for, but was unable to do so after several weeks. As you can imagine, management is said to be very disappointed with the situation.

– Some of the commemorative CM Punk t-shirts that sold out at Sunday’s WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view are going for over $500 on eBay this week.

– There are many people in both WWE and Ring of Honor that suspect that the two companies have some sort of a working agreement in place,.

Sources insist that some of the things CM Punk spoke about in his infamous RAW promo a few weeks back will start finding their way onto WWE TV soon. For example, Punk talked about Triple H taking over and he began that storyline on this week’s RAW. Punk also mentioned John Laurinaitis and Colt Cabana, both who appeared on WWE TV in the past week. While Cabana wasn’t named by the announcers, he was shown at ringside on Money in the Bank and was photographed with Punk and the WWE Title in Chicago after the pay-per-view.

For what its worth, Cabana has told at least one indy promotion that he’s worked regularly with that he’s not taking any more bookings with them after next month.

Update On Sarita’s Facial Paralysis, Sky Wants To Get On DWTS

6

— TNA Knockout Sarita is still feeling the effects of facial paralysis as she donned a protective mask at this past weekend’s World Wrestling Council Aniversario 2011 events in Ponce and Bayamón, Puerto Rico. The mask was specifically designed to protect her face as it entirely covered her mouth and left eye.

Sarita competed against Puerto Rican women’s wrestler Black Rose at both events as a heel. She won Friday in Ponce but lost Sunday in Bayamón.

Meanwhile, TNA Women’s Knockout Champion Mickie James was advertised to compete at Aniversario 2011 but scratched days before the events.

— The producers of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars are giving fans the opportunity to cast the upcoming season. Velvet Sky is asking fans via Twitter to show their support by voting for her to appear on the reality show. To vote for the TNA Knockout under the athletes category, click here.

Big Update On Vince McMahon’s Role In WWE

29

On Monday’s episode of RAW, Triple H returned to announce that WWE’s board of directors has voted to relieve Vince McMahon of his day-to-day corporate duties. Although McMahon remains WWE’s Chairman and CEO, the storyline of Triple H taking over WWE is reality-based.

While nothing is set in stone, the current plan is for Vince McMahon to remain in his role until WrestleMania 28 – when his son-in-law Triple H really would take over Vince’s position as the ‘top dog’ in WWE. Even after Vince turns over the reigns to Triple H, he will obviously remain very influential, overseeing the corporate and creative aspects of the company’s operations.

If it seems like we’ve seen Vince McMahon written out of WWE storylines in dramatic fashion before – that’s because Monday’s angle marks the fifth straight year that it’s happened. Back in 2007 he was blown up in a limousine, but that angle was dropped a week later due to the Chris Benoit tragedy. In 2008 saw the RAW set fall on top of him. In 2009, he sold WWE to Donald Trump in the storylines but was back on television within a few months. Last year, Vince was brutally attacked by Nexus and put into a coma.

JBL Calls Vince Russo A Clown, Launches YouTube Channel

21

John “Bradshaw” Layfield posted a blog on his Facebook which concludes with the former WWE Champion comparing Vince Russo to a clown not good enough to work for Ringling Brothers Circle, thus explaining why he’s still involved with the wrestling industry.

He wrote: “For those that have said they would like JR and I to do commentary together, thanks but probably will never happen-though I would love it. You never know, but I am happy living in Bermuda and JR is happy living in Oklahoma not traveling. However, it has never been brought up so the option isn’t there.

“And, for JR-greatest play by play guy ever (though I have a ton of respect for Michael Cole, working with him I realize how good he is) and myself who had a decent run as a commentator. Makes you wonder why Vince Russo, former WWE creative, would say about those with a southern accent, and specifically about JR-“How can anyone take anything they say seriously with that accent?”.

“I actually was told to try and talk without a southern accent by Russo so I could be taken seriously. I guess Stone Cold was never taken seriously and JR was just average? Amazing guys who stay in this business year after year, maybe another example of a clown not good enough for Ringling Bros?”

JBL has also launched a YouTube channel.

The Rock Planning Second Book, Mahoney Banned From NWS

23

— Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed this morning on Twitter that he has a second autobiography in the works.

“On flight to NY to meet w publishers for my next book. (2nd autobiography),” he wrote. “The goal: Inspire. Share. Entertain.”

His first autobiography, The Rock Says…, was released in 2000 and debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list.

— New Jersey based independent wrestling league National Wrestling Superstars announced that they would no longer work with promotion regular Balls Mahoney due to the former WWE star’s penchant for “self destructive childish behavior.”

Their statement reads: “WWE Alumni and Samoan superstar Manu will take the place of John “Balls” Mahoney on the National Wrestling Superstars Saturday, July 23rd Island Heights Fire Company card. The change, due to Balls Mahoney’s penchant for self destructive childish behavior and non cooperative and just all out assinine nature has become over the past two years more the norm rather than not. NWS as always wishes to please its many fans but washes its hands dealing with Mr. Mahoney on all future engagements. A sad statement indeed as Balls was always a welcome addition to the NWS roster for many many years.”

Original Plans For Sunday’s Money In The Bank PPV

14

According to a new report, the plan for Money in the Bank as recent as a few days before the pay-per-view was to have Alberto Del Rio cash in his briefcase and leave the show as the new WWE Champion, regardless of what happened between John Cena and CM Punk.

There had been several ideas tossed around for the Punk-Cena storyline and WWE decided over the weekend to give Punk the WWE Title and go from there.

While Monday’s rating is up from last week’s 2.9 number, a 3.2 is still not a great number considering the incredible amount of buzz WWE has received in recent weeks and the overwhelmingly-positive reviews coming out of Sunday’s PPV.

– The July 16th episode of WWE’s AM RAW did a 0.67 rating with 821,000 viewers.

Morrison Injury Update, The Latest On CM Punk’s WWE Future

28

– Monday’s RAW featured a promo video hyping the return of John Morrison, who tweeted the following regarding the video package and his medical status:

“watching RAW, @WWE – thanks for the amazing video –  damn I’ve got a lot of goofy nicknames!”

“I’ve been working hard to rehab my neck, and nerve damage. I’m hoping to get cleared soon.”

peaking of Morrison, he and Drew McIntyre have been added to this Friday night’s FCW event at the Melbourne Auditorium in Melbourne, Florida.

– According to one of our WWE sources, the current plan for CM Punk is for the storyline to play out off television for the next few weeks – ie. on CM Punk’s Twitter account, the WWE website, etc. Expect some newsworthy tweets and interviews from Punk.

Several ideas have been thrown around WWE in regards to the CM Punk storyline – including WWE using Punk’s kidnapping of the spinner belt as a way to finally get rid of it in favor of a new WWE championship belt.

Jeff Hardy Court Update, Generation Me’s TNA Departure

11

“Simply put: If we weren’t wrestling, we weren’t making money…And a guys gotta eat. Obviously, if you’re a fan of the show, you probably hadn’t seen us for quite sometime. Aside from the television program, TNA also runs live events around the country. In 2011, we’d only been on a handful of those, as well. Now, don’t get me wrong. When you’re booked a bunch, you’re making pretty good money, which was the case for us in our first year with the company. Not so much, this year.”

— Tenille Tayla, a 22-year-old Australian women’s wrestler who signed a developmental contract with WWE earlier this year, announced this morning via Facebook that she will be undergoing surgery on her shoulder tomorrow due to the numerous dislocations she’s incurred throughout her wrestling career.

She wrote, “To give you all a quick rundown, I have decided to undergo surgery on my shoulder after the many dislocations I’ve incurred throughout my career. The surgery will take place tomorrow (Wednesday). Looking forward to getting it over with, rehab and hoping to pick up where I left off at the end of the year!”

— “Bright Lights Bigger City” by R&B artist Cee Lo Green is the song that was used during last night’s promotional advertisement for SummerSlam. The pay-per-view event takes place August 14 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

— Chris Jericho’s second autobiography, Undisputed: How to Become the World Champion in 1,372 Easy Steps, will be released via paperback next February.
