Ring Of Honor Announces Two Contract Signings

0

Ring of Honor sent in the following announcement today:

(Bristol, PA – September 13, 2010) Ring of Honor officials are excited to announce that we have come to terms with “The Pretty Boy Pitbull” Kenny King on a contract extension. One-half of The All Night Express, King has been a part of the ROH roster since “Motor City Madness 2007” and has slowly evolved into one of the most exciting in-ring performers around.

From exciting singles performances against the likes of Tyler Black, Bryan Danielson, and Jay Briscoe just this weekend, to his tag team success alongside “Addicted to Love” Rhett Titus, Kenny King has proven to be arguably the most athletically gifted wrestler in Ring of Honor. And with the likes of Austin Aries mentoring his career, King is certainly a future world champion.

“There are big things on the horizon for this talented young man.” said ROH Executive Producer Jim Cornette. “He is a stellar athlete with a tremendous upside. Despite his general attitude, we are excited to see what the future has in store for Kenny King here in ROH.”

In addition ROH officials would also like to announce that, following a stellar outing against the aforementioned Austin Aries that saw him kick out of Aries’ Brainbuster, independent standout Kyle O’Reilly has also been signed to a contract with Ring of Honor. This young man from Canada has been impressing people across the wrestling world in recent months, and has signed on to ROH for the foreseeable future. If he continues to impress as he did against a 2-time World Champion, O’Reilly has a bright future ahead of him.

Aloisia Reportedly Tied To Escort Service, Serena Resurfaces

5

— According to sources within World Wrestling Entertainment, the reason 6’9″ lady grappler Aloisia was pulled from the third season of NXT was not because she posed suggestively in the past, but rather that the photos in question are believed to be tied to an escort service.

— Former WWE Diva Serena made a surprise return to the ring at Saturday’s SHIMMER DVD taping in Berwyn, Illinois. The former Straight Edge Society member defeated Kelly Skater in what was described as a “great match.”

While Serena’s 90-day no-compete clause with WWE prohibits her from appearing on national television for rival wrestling organizations, she is still able to work independent shows.

— Florida Championship Wrestling president Steve Keirn celebrated his 59th birthday Sunday.

Tyler Black Talks About Leaving ROH For WWE & More

7

Former ROH Champion Tyler Black, who is expected to start at WWE developmental any time now, spoke with The Sun in the UK about signing with the company. Here are some highlights:

Which Superstar encouraged him to sign: “I’ve spoken a lot to Evan Bourne and he has encouraged me to make the move.”

Picking WWE over TNA and ROH: “To be honest, and no disrespect meant, but it wasn’t a hard decision to make. You have to want to test yourself against the best and WWE is the pinnacle of our industry. They were actually the last to make me an offer. I was renegotiating with ROH and TNA had made an offer, but when WWE came in it was no contest.”

What’s Next for Him: “I understand that I may have to sacrifice a little artistic integrity — and I don’t know if I’ll have to change my name — but I’m so excited about the challenge that lies ahead. If I knew exactly what I was doing I’d probably try to keep it from you, but the truth is I don’t know. All I know is I will report to Tampa (WWE developmental territory FCW) and go from there. I wouldn’t be averse to starting on NXT. I think it’s a really great concept. It’s a chance to get your character to stand out.”

ROH Glory By Honor IX Results (9/11/10)

5

Thanks to reader Gene Stern for sending in these results:

* Kenny King beat Jay Briscoe with The Royal Flush. Good opener.

*Mark Briscoe beat Rhett Titus with an Ace Crusher from the top rope. This was a good match with some crazy spots.

*Balls Mahoney did a promo backstage saying he would be in a brawl next. He teamed with Grizzly Redwood. They were in control of Necro Butcher and Erick Stevens when Prince Nana came out and helped the heels. Stevens then nailed Balls from behind and got the win. Fun match.

* Colt Cabana and El Generico beat Steve Corino and Kevin Steen in a Chain Match. This was great and brutal. Cabana made Corino give up.

* Jim Cornette announced that Davey Richards has signed a new contract and will get the ROH Title shot at the 12/18 Final Battle PPV.

* Eddie Edwards beat Daivari to retain the TV Title. It was OK.

* Christopher Daniels beat Austin Aries in a really good match. They both hit everything they had before Daniels got the win with the Angels Wings.

* The Kings of Wrestling beat Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match. This was a great match. Chris Hero used the loaded pad to nail Haas and Claudio covered him for the pin.

* Roderick Strong beat Tyler Black to win the ROH World Title. Terry Funk was the ringside enforcer and after a ref bump, he became the ref. Truth Martini tried to interfere but Funk threw him out. Good match to end the show. This show was definitely worth getting.

Afterwards, the lights went out and the party began as the Notorious 187, Homicide was back in ROH. He told Strong that he was coming for his title and that he was going to be in the title match in December.

Matt Hardy Reportedly Sent Home From WWE’s European Tour

17

Matt Hardy was sent home from World Wrestling Entertainment’s ongoing tour of Europe today, company sources have confirmed.

There was concern over Hardy’s condition backstage at yesterday’s SmackDown live event in Minehead, England.

This comes on the heels of an incident at last Sunday’s SmackDown live event in White Plains, New York where he was scheduled to team with R-Truth against Luke Gallows and CM Punk. Company sources indicate there was concern over his condition that day too. It is said that Hardy left the building after officials spoke to him and never returned for his match.

Hardy posted a peculiar message on his Twitter account late last night, writing: “Good Night Earth.. And remember, life is special.. http://bit.ly/bPRN8J Godspeed everyone.”

The enclosed link directs to Jeff Hardy’s video announcement last month that he is going to be a father.

Former WWE Talent Mike Shaw (a/k/a Bastion Booger) Dies

15

Mike Shaw, who performed under a variety of names including Makhan Singh, Norman the Lunatic and in World Wrestling Entertainment as Bastion Booger, died of a heart attack on Saturday, confirms SLAM! Wrestling. He was 53.

After working the ranks of Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling promotion in Calgary, Alberta for numerous years, Shaw gained national recognition in the early nineties with World Championship Wrestling as the lovable, child-like character Norman the Lunatic. However, he is best known for his WWE role as Bastion Booger, which saw him portray a repugnantly obese man who wrestled in dingy grey singlets tailored to give him the appearance of a hunchback.

As the Booger character, Shaw felt his career ended on a negative, especially considering that the bulk of his greatest work was never seen on a national scale. He revealed his unhappiness with the gimmick in a 1998 interview with Scott Teal of the Whatever Happened To… newsletter.

“I think the Booger character would have worked if it got over as a heel, but my heart wasn’t into it,” Shaw disclosed to Teal. “I didn’t like the character. I didn’t like the outfit. Don’t get me wrong. I was happy to be in the WWF. It was something I wanted to do my whole career. I made a good living there.”

Shaw resided in Michigan after retiring from professional wrestling but still made occasional appearances at independent shows and conventions.

Reported Prize For NXT Winner, New Additions To FCW Roster

12

— From this point forward, WWE reportedly plans for the winner of each season of NXT to strictly receive a championship match. Company officials have dropped the stipulation of the winner receiving a contract since many of the contestants will ultimately end up on the main roster.

— The official website of Florida Championship Wrestling has added three WWE developmental talents to its roster page in Brad Maddox, Caylee Turner and Kevin Hackman.

Maddox is former OVW Heavyweight Champion Brent “Beef” Wellington, who was signed to a developmental deal in July.

Turner is Christina Crawford, the younger sister of WWE Diva Alicia Fox. She was signed this summer following a few trial appearances.

Hackman is Andrew Leavine, a former offensive lineman at Florida International University. He was signed to a developmental contract last month.

Meanwhile, all six NXT Rookie Divas — AJ (a/k/a AJ Lee), Aksana, Jamie (a/k/a Jamie Keyes), Kaitlyn (a/k/a Ricki Vaughn), Maxine (a/k/a Liviana) and Naomi (a/k/a Naomi Night) — are being referred by their WWE names.

— The September 9, 2010 edition of WWE Superstars on WGN America drew a 0.58 cable rating, with 579,000 viewers. The midnight replay scored a 0.25 rating, with 254,000 viewers.

Dixie Carter Reveals When TNA’s “Major Changes” Will Occur

27

TNA President Dixie Carter appeared on the “Bound For Glory Kickoff Show” on the TNA website and revealed that the “Major Changes” coming to TNA will be revealed on the October 7th live edition of TNA iMPACT!

Carter said she couldn’t believe the response she got after she originally broke the news about the “major changes” earlier this summer, when she said she was so excited that she couldn’t sleep. “I sent out a Tweet and I didn’t think anything about it,” she said. “I was like, ‘Wow, I didn’t really think that one through, did I?'”

Carter described the change as “progressive” – saying, “It’s not a surprise. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, she always says there’s a big surprise and then there’s not a surprise.’ I’ve never said this is a surprise. I said it’s a change,” Carter told Jeremy Borash in a Q&A session. “So, on 10/7, that’s when we’ll start to unveil this change. There will be even more.”

Carter was asked later if she could change anything about TNA – what would it be?  She replied, “Do what I’m going to do on 10/7, but do it even bigger.”

She also said that a top free agent recently sent out feelers about joining TNA. “There was a talent that we wanted very much a couple of years ago and pursued hard,” Carter said. “I got a phone call a couple of days ago saying, ‘You know, this person might be interested in coming to TNA.’ And I go, ‘I don’t think we need him, but thank you, though, for thinking of us.’ And it was just so interesting to me to go from so – I won’t use the word desperate – but it was important that we had bigger stars to build around.”

Aloisia Says She’s Still Unsure Why She Was Booted From NXT

5

Ousted NXT Rookie Diva Aloisia told Fanhouse.com that she’s still unsure why she was booted from the program.

“Maybe they have bigger and better plans for me than NXT,” Aloisia told Brian Fritz in an interview. “It’s anyone’s guess at this point.”

The 6-foot-9 giant also responded to online reports that she was pulled from show because she posed for racy photos when she was 18 years old.

“They may have, they may have not,” she said. “I really have no say. I do know it’s a PG era for the WWE. I also know that every other diva has had some photos — racy photos or even pornography photos — that are out there of them. I really can’t say.”

To read the interview, click here.

PWInsider.com reports that there was much concern amongst WWE officials in regards to what else might be out there beyond her racy photos and thus felt she was too much of a risk to keep on NXT since they don’t want any controversy.

New Match Announced For NOC, Aloisia Blasts Vickie Guerrero

9

— In a Night of Champions first, no belt will be on the line when Big Show squares off against CM Punk at the annual WWE pay-per-view event. The match was announced tonight on WWE.com.

— Ousted NXT Rookie Diva Aloisia posted a pseudo-shoot blog on her official website Wednesday blasting her former NXT Pro, Vickie Guerrero. The 6’9″ lady grappler pokes fun at Guerrero’s weight and says her replacement, Kaitlyn, deserves someone better than a ‘washed up middle-aged “Pro” who’s been resting on her laurels for about the past 20 years or so.’

Aloisia also wants to know why past lingerie photos of her are so ‘unforgivable’ when Guerrero took part in a nude photo shoot for WWE.com.

“I find out that maybe the “real” reason I was fired was because of some ridiculous lingerie photo shoot I did when I was 18,” she said. “Um, EXCUSE ME, but if what I did was so unforgivable then can someone please explain why my “favorite” person, VG, has a (censored) nude photo shoot posted on the WWE.com website?”

She also calls out Beth Phoenix, who mistakenly called her ‘Aloisha’ in a tweet last week.

“And Beth Phoenix, honey…I’ve got you in my sights as well,” Aloisia wrote. “Every time you look in your rear view mirror, that’s me you see coming up behind you. And yes, I stole that line from Mad Men.”

— Jim Ross offered high praise for NXT Rookie Diva Naomi in the latest edition of the Ross Report, who won both NXT Rookie Diva Challenges during the season three premiere episode of NXT.

“The third version of NXT kicked off Tuesday night on Syfy and Naomi dominated,” Ross wrote. “Naomi would seemingly have to fumble bigger than Reggie Bush did with his former Heisman Trophy to blow this competition.”

— Due to NCAA football, The Score in Canada won’t be airing WWE Vintage Collection on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Vintage Collection will air on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10:30 PM (ET). (Thanks to Devin Cutting)

* “AJ wrapped the tie around the neck. She’s fired!”

* “WWE has a new movie coming out? Really? What’s it called? Who’s in it? I wish myself the best in my future endeavors.”

* “Regardless of what you thought of NXT, I think we can all agree on one thing. This chat was more entertaining than TNA. OH MY GOD! Goodnight.”

— NXT Rookie Diva Kaitlyn is among the most searched for topics on Google.com today as her real name, Celeste Bonin, garnered a large amount of queries.

SEScoops Mailbag: Did TNA Reveal Who Kidnapped Samoa Joe?

8

SEScoops Mailbag for September 9th

(submit YOUR questions to [email protected])

Q: I don’t know if I missed an episode of Impact or not, but I remember a segment where Samoa Joe was kidnapped and thrown in the back of a van and then he just suddenly reappeared a few months later. Did we ever find out who was behind the attack or am I just dumb? – Kieran A.

A: Nope, they never did follow through on who his attacker(s) were. TNA would have you believe that continuity is a dirty word. In any event, stay vigilant as these mystery ninjas continue to hide among us and may strike at anytime.

Q: I know that it is a real long shot, but do you think that we might see Evan Bourne in a championship position? Maybe for the US or IC title? I just think he has a huge amount of talent that WWE doesn’t utilize. What is your opinion? – Joe D

A: Absolutely, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Evan with gold around his waist at some point, be it Tag Team, US or IC. Reportedly, it was John Cena who went to bat for him with Vince McMahon some time ago when Evan was getting a bit of a push on Raw, though that seems to have subsided. Point is, he is well-liked and has his supporters backstage.

Q: Is there any chance WWE can bring back Fatu to manage his sons? And why do you guys think WWE did away with managers in general? – David

A: Very little chance Fatu (Rikishi) is brought back in any capacity unless he loses significant pounds. Based on recent appearances on the indy scene, his weight has spiraled out of control and he’s having a great deal of problems with his knees as a result. As for why WWE did away with managers, you can point the finger squarely at Vince McMahon on that one as he feels it’s too “wrasslin” to work in today’s environment. Meanwhile, men like Jim “Sinister Minister” Mitchell and Joel Gertner sit on the sidelines.

Q: Okay, so at WrestleMania 15, there was a Hell in the Cell match between the Undertaker and the Big Boss Man. The match concluded with the Brood (Edge and Christian) coming down from the ceiling on top of the cell with a noose and the Boss Man was hung. How was that possible? It’s been bugging me for years. – Nathan O.

A: It was quite an elaborate stunt pulled off by WWE. I believe Bossman was rigged pre-match under his attire with some sort of stunt harness. Upon being hoisted into the air, it was made to look as though he was hanging by his neck when in reality, he was being hoisted up rather safely by the harness. There are actually people out there who still believe he was really being hanged and was simply holding his breath the entire time.

Q: Will WWE ever go back to PG-14 and, if they do, how do you think they will make the switch? – Justin

A: First of all, there’s no such thing as PG-14, that’s an oxymoron. I suppose if John Cena and Steve Austin were siamese twins, you could call it PG-14 (that would actually be rather entertaining watching Austin cuss and Cena just shake his head in disgust). Regardless, if it’s TV-14 you mean, when ratings slip even further and their revenue streams begin to dry up, then they will likely consider a return to edgy programming. In other words, it’s not happening anytime soon. When they do, it will be gradual. Don’t expect to turn on Raw one week and suddenly see beer drinking, stripteases and crotch-grabbing. If you want that, fly to Vegas.

Q: Is smackdown will be spoilers when it live in syfy? – Soud

A: I swear to god this was a real question. People, please don’t drunk text. Thanks.

Q: With WWE unifying the Women’s and Divas titles and there being 16 Divas and one title, do you think they will fire some Divas in the near future, because you can’t have 16 Divas going after one belt? –Victor

A: Who says all 16 Divas have to compete for a title? Most don’t know how to wrestle, anyway. They hire most of these women with very little, if any, experience who look like Playboy models (though oddly enough, they won’t allow Playboy shoots anymore due to the PG product). Besides, we don’t yet know what will happen once the titles are unified. Will the champion travel across both brands? If so, then anyone can go after the belt.

Q: Why did Shawn Michaels use the DX theme music at WrestleMania 23 instead of his normal music? He was tag team champion with someone else and Triple H had been out injured for months at that point. – Joanna

A: I think it had more to do with keeping DX fresh in people’s minds for when Triple H was able to return. They likely did not want people to think the unit was dead. I remember asking myself this same question at the time, and it bugged me too, but there are far more important things for us to worry over.

Q: What was supposed to be the outcome of Vince McMahon’s staged death a few years ago? I know Chris Benoit was found dead and that was the end of that storyline, but do you know where that idea was supposed to go? – Jack

A: From what I can recall, one idea being toyed with was having Linda McMahon be fingered (sorry, poor choice of words) as the culprit. However, it would later be revealed that she was wrongly accused and someone else would have been revealed as the true mastermind. I don’t believe they knew who that person would be as many times, these angles are made up as they go along. For example, WWE certainly did not have Rikishi in mind when Steve Austin first got run down by a car at the 1999 Survivor Series. The other idea was that Vince would reveal at some point that he staged his own death for reasons that would later be explained.

John Cena’s Legendary Getting Bad Reviews From Critics

15

Early critic reviews are in for the John Cena WWE Studios film “Legendary” and they are not pretty.

Movie review website RottenTomatoes.com, while compiles dozens of reviews from mainstream critics and blogs, gives the movie a 21/100 score.

Here are some of the critics’ comments:

It’s a feel-good Kleenexâ„¢ dispenser of a movie, and there’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it’s routine Hallmark Hall of Afterschool Special material.” – Roger Ebert

“The script, by actor turned writer John Posey, has structural problems and motivational issues in between the cliches. And Cena, a few movies into his career, is still all presence and no acting.” – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel

“A wonderfully crafted coming-of-age drama about the love that can heal the brokenness of an estranged family.” Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, Spirituality & Peace

“A well-meaning dud that’ll put you out faster than a sleeper hold.” Adam Markovitz, Entertainment Weekly

“John Cena radiates subdued menace and cool daring on screen. The problem is that he’s intended as strictly dramatic wallpaper to this more suds than steroids coming of age wrestler story derivative of countless other sports tales.” – Prairie Miller, NewsBlaze

Reason For Impact Preemption, Jarrett’s Marriage To Angle’s Ex

4

TNA iMPACT! is being preempted tonight as Spike TV is airing episodes of Gangland during the program’s regular time slot. While Spike nor TNA Wrestling has acknowledged the reason for the preemption, it is said that network officials made the decision to not air iMPACT! this week because they felt it would be hammered in the ratings by the NFL season opener between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints.

TNA Wrestling will instead present the Bound For Glory Kickoff Show on the company’s official website, TNAWrestling.com. Hosted by Jeremy Borash, the webcast will feature a Q & A session with TNA President Dixie Carter where she will answer questions form the fans.

— As noted earlier, Jeff Jarrett recently tied the knot with Kurt Angle’s ex-wife, Karen Smedley. The couple were married on August 21 at a small ceremony that few people within TNA Wrestling knew about. People within the organization discovered their marriage after Karen, more than a week later, posted photos from the wedding on her Facebook account. The two have been living together and raising their combined five children (three from Jeff’s first marriage to the late Jill Jarrett; two from Karen’s marriage to Kurt Angle).

— While Team 3D’s respective contracts with TNA Wrestling have expired, Brother Ray is still working for the promotion both as a producer and in creative.
