Hogan’s TNA Wishlist: Austin, Savage, RVD, Monday Night War

16

The New York Daily News has published comments that Hulk Hogan made to a fan at a recent book signing regarding his vision for TNA Wrestling. Hogan said that he hopes to bring in Steve Austin, Randy Savage, Rob Van Dam, and the Nasty Boys tag team to TNA. He also wants to start a new Monday Night War against WWE.

“I wish to talk to Rob Van Dam, who is considering returning to the ring, and convince him to join TNA,” Hogan said. “Plus I’m also wishing to contact ex-Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Macho Man Randy Savage.”

The newspaper reports that Hogan is pushing for TNA programming on Monday nights, which was one rumored around the time it was announced Hogan and Eric Bischoff are partnering with TNA.

Hogan says he “considered for months” guest-hosting Monday’s Raw from Madison Square Garden before he “sealed the deal” with TNA.

Mysterio Needs Surgery, Edge Talks About His Injuries

4

– Rey Mysterio is said to be working through a lot of pain at the moment, with news that his ACL and PCL are completely destroyed. It’s said his injured joint is virtually bone-on-bone and that he requires knee surgery as soon as possible, according to the Wrestling Globe newsletter.

– In an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph, Edge talks about injuries saying, “Look, guys in the WWE wrestle hurt all the time – that’s a given.” He also talks about the point where he nearly ended up in a wheelchair after pushing himself too far.

“And with the neck stuff, yeah, I thought I was hurt. So I kept going and going, basically. Kept training and wrestling to the point where I almost ended up in a wheelchair. And it all came to a head one afternoon when I was lifting weights in a San Francisco gym. Curling dumbbells. I was curling away when I went to go with my left and – boom – it just wouldn’t go. Even when I tried to flex my bicep, it stayed soft.” He then wrestled the next day.

Big Show Talks Flair & Hogan Wrestling Again, Retirement

0

WWE unified tag champion the Big Show was interviewed by the UK’s Daily Star this week and commented on Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair returning to the ring later this month in Australia.

Show, a longtime friend of Hulk Hogan, “I just think it was a situation where two guys who love the industry wanted to go again,” he told the Star. “That’s the thing, no matter how long you do this for, or how old you are, you still have a love and a passion for the business. I wish them all the best.”

When asked whether his own career is winding down, he said, “I get sore and a little lame and I have a bad attitude generally – but I still love coming to work. I’m the kind of guy who can’t sit still for longer than two or three days in a row anyway! If there comes a time where I can’t go out and entertain the fans then I’ll call it a day but that’s not here yet. I’m enjoying the moment.”

WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2010 List Of Rumored Names

4

On the flight to England this past week, there was a lot of discussion between WWE creative and Vince McMahon regarding the 2010 WWE Hall of Fame class. The names discussed this week that Vince liked the most was Ted DiBiase, King Kong Bundy, Lawrence Taylor and Jake Roberts.

DiBiase remains the most consistent name talked about but there is some concern that they might not be able to get Taylor, who wrestled Bam Bam Bigelow at WrestleMania 11.

Obviously there is also concern about booking Jake Roberts considering his problems with alcohol and his reputation among people in the business. Roberts blew WWE off a while back for promotional work on his own DVD so saying that he would easily come for a Hall of Fame payoff is stretching it.

Regarding The Ultimate Warrior, he was talked about a week earlier but his name wasn’t seriously talked about on the flight to England this past week.

Bobby Lashley Leaving TNA To Fight MMA Full Time?

0

In an interview with Sherdog.com, TNA Wrestling star and MMA fighter says he’d strongly consider walking away from pro wrestling if he was offered an exclusive deal with Strikeforce.

“If it does come to a point where you have to choose, then I’ll have to sit back and talk with my family. I want to fight,” Lashley said. “TNA is at the understanding where they know my dedication with fighting. If (Strikeforce CEO Scott) Coker comes back and says you have to quit wrestling, then we’ll have to cross that bridge.”

TNA offered Lashley great money to work a reduced schedule and they understand fighting is his top priority.

Lashley professional MMA record is 4-0, most recently defeating Bob Sapp on June 27th. There were reports over the summer that Strikeforce was negotiating with Bobby Lashley to fight Fedor Emelianenko at last weekend’s CBS event. Lashley declined the high profile fight because he didn’t think he’d have enough time to train properly, but Strikeforce is interested and can certainly use another rising star with name value in their heavyweight division.

RVD Says Vince Ripped His Heart Out & Stomped On It

0

Rob Van Dam tells Simon Rothstein of the UK Sun that Vince McMahon ripped his heart out and stomped on it with the way he handled the resurrection of ECW back in 2006. The former WWE & ECW champion goes in depth about how poorly he feels Vince McMahon handled ECW, the various steps McMahon took to make his version ECW completely different while burying the ECW legacy, Paul Heyman’s reaction to the whole fiasco and more.

Winning the WWE Title & Vince’s ECW: “RVD wasn’t going to be WWE champ, but I brought ECW back because that was my spirit and the spirit of the fans. I knew they wanted to see it and I was feeding off that energy. Winning the world title meant a lot. It gave creditability to ECW. At least for the moment…so we thought! But very shortly afterwards Vince McMahon’s long-term plans started to unfold.

“We were faced with the fact that he would give ECW no credit for anything up until that point and wanted to create this new brand of wrestling that would be a global product and mainstream in every way, with Extreme Rules only as a stipulation every once in a while. Our hearts were ripped out of our chests and stomped on. Vince said: “Nobody remembers the old ECW anyway, Rob. This is something new.” So it was a fun moment, it was short-lived and it’s definitely gone now.

Paul Heyman’s Feelings About the new ECW: He would come to work and just tell me how much disdain and loathing he had for Vince. I remember him saying it was like Vince had raped his wife, because ECW was so close to his heart and Vince f***ed it. He felt Vince enjoyed watching him suffer, while ripping apart the fabric of ECW week by week. But Paul has no resentment now and no desire to get back at Vince. He has made balance and is in a peaceful stage, like I am. It’s just something we laugh about.

JR Blog: Warrior In The Hall Of Fame, Piper Hosting Raw

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some of the highlights:

His WWE Status: For the record, I don’t have a burning desire right now, while addressing my present health issues, to get back on weekly TV whatsoever. I am much more focused on the medical tests that I will undergo tomorrow which are the results of previous tests done a week or so ago. Yes sir, I’m ready for this little journey to end and to be 100% ready to rock….and that will happen.

Roddy Piper Hosting Raw: Rowdy Roddy Piper will no doubt be at the top of his game Monday night in Madison Square Garden when he hosts Monday Night Raw. I know that Hot Rod considers “The Garden” hallowed ground, as most of us veterans do, and who knows how many more times the WWE Hall of Famer will be in such a key role in this arena? I expect all sort of Survivor Series oriented fireworks in NYC Monday evening.

Ultimate Warrior in the WWE Hall of Fame? The WWE Hall of Fame class for 2010 seems to be garnering more interest as our email flow gets stronger. Lots of speculation that the “Ultimate Warrior” will be inducted this year. I have no clue but the fact that “Warrior” lives in Phoenix, the site of WM26, being a significant reason as to why makes zero sense to me. Either the man deserves to be introduced or he doesn’t no matter his zip code. I personally feel the former Blade Runner is deserving and just because the guy is considered “controversial” should not exclude him from any accolade. Warrior’s accomplishments and contributions to the business are what counts and hearing Warrior’s acceptance speech live and in person would be classic and likely a “Wrestlemania Moment.”

TNA Knockout Released – Details Behind Her Departure

2

It was reported last week that Sojournor Bolt’s future with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling appeared to be in doubt. According to PWInsider.com, she was released by the organization yesterday. Her profile was removed from the company website’s roster section this afternoon, thus confirming her departure.

It should be noted that there is a chance she be may used again in the future, but the company had nothing creatively for her at the moment and opted to release her from her contract.

The veteran women’s wrestler had been sparingly used since Dutch Mantel’s departure from TNA this past summer and the feeling was her days in the company were numbered.

News of Bolt’s release comes just days after several TNA wrestlers asked for their releases and were denied. For more on that story, click here.

Linda McMahon Leaves WWE & Spending Big Campaign Money

0

Linda McMahon has officially resigned from her position of the Board of Directors of World Wrestling Entertainment, according to documents filed on Tuesday with the SEC. McMahon stepped down as WWE CEO over the summer (with Vince McMahon now taking on that position) but her resignation from the Board marks her complete exit from the company.

“On November 6, 2009, Linda E. McMahon resigned as a Director of the Company due to the continuing demands on her time resulting from her campaign for the United States Senate, representing the State of Connecticut,” WWE stated in the SEC filing.

USA Today lists Linda McMahon as the person spending more of her own money on her campaign than anybody else running for Senate or the House McMahon has donated $3.5 million of her own money to campaign for the U.S. Senate race in Connecticut. Linda’s team says that using her own money keeps her protected from strings-attached donations while her competitors argue that she won’t have to campaign as hard and will have a harder time winning over the people

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is getting ready to walk that aisle once again – the aisle that leads straight to the alter.

TNA Talent Unhappy, Nash Contest Dropped, ODB's New Deal

0

— As seen last week on iMPACT!, TNA President Dixie Carter essentially said during her speech at the top of the hour that anyone who wasn’t on board with her recent changes to the organization should find work elsewhere. As it turns out, five wrestlers had asked for their releases from the company in recent weeks, including Frankie Kazarian (a.k.a. Suicide) and Homicide — we don’t have the names of the three other wrestlers. All five were turned down. (VIDEO: Dixie Carter’s Speech)

— TNA has dropped Kevin Nash’s search for his first-ever female valet, the Big Sexy World Tour. The winner would have received an all-expenses-paid trip to next month’s Final Resolution pay-per-view in Orlando and accompanied Nash to the ring for his match that night.

— As reported earlier, reigning TNA Women’s Knockout Champion ODB recently inked a multi-year deal with the organization. Her contract renewal with the organization actually came as a surprise to friends as she had been discussing jumping to World Wrestling Entertainment when her previous contract expired in mid-November. She had been telling people the past two months that she didn’t think management even realized her contract was coming due because no one had mentioned it to her.

RAW Rating Is Lowest Of 2009 – Disturbing Trend Continues

6

Monday’s WWE Raw scored a 3.1 rating with only 4.25 million viewers – way down from last week’s 3.5 (despite the fact that last week’s show went up against the World Series). The show was taped on Monday afternoon from Sheffield, England and was hosted by boxer Ricky Hatton.

Some troubling facts regarding this week’s rating:

  • 4.25 million viewers makes this week’s show the lowest rated edition of WWE Raw of 2009.
  • The first hour drew a 3.2 with 4,433,000 viewers and the second hour did a 3.0 rating with 4,064,000 viewers. WWE Raw has lost viewers in the second hour 5 out of the past 6 weeks.
  • Overall viewership was down over 14% when compared to what the show was averaging over the past 5 weeks.

Yeah the show was taped, yeah the rating for the NFL’s Monday Night Football was up a bit this week, but this is ugly news for WWE any way you look at it. The company has zero momentum heading into Survivor Series and WWE’s latest attempt at elevating young talent is not giving Raw the spark it needs.

Stacy Keibler Offered To Host WWE Raw But Never Heard Back

0

Stacy Keibler recently spoke to Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun and was asked whether she’d be the special guest host of WWE Raw when the show comes to her hometown of Baltimore, MD on 11/30.

The former WWE Diva said she reached out to WWE about hosting, but never heard back. “No one has contacted me. I actually had my management contact them, and nobody ever got back to us [laughs]. So I guess they’re not interested,” she said.

Keibler recently won a contest to determine Baltimore, Maryland’s biggest celebrity – beating out baseball great Cal Ripken, Jr. and Olympic hero Michael Phelps.

Keibler was also asked about whether she’s heard anything from TNA Wrestling about working for them. “[TNA] hasn’t [contacted me], but Mick and I talk regularly,” she said. “They haven’t contacted me to do anything, plus I still have my deal with ABC, so I wouldn’t be able to do anything like that.”

JR Blog: Lack Of Survivor Series Hype, Too Many PPVs

2
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. In this entry, Ross questions whether WWE has done a sufficient job hyping the Survivor Series WWE title match and shares his thoughts on whether WWE holds pay-per-view events too often.

Survivor Series Hype: RAW from Sheffield was an interesting show. I honestly expected more hype for Survivor Series but what I heard was not offensive or overkill and seemed to work. I kept waiting on some issues to pop up between Cena, HHH, and HBK as they prepare for their Triple Threat Match for the WWE Title at Survivor Series. By it not happening, it leads me to believe that something could be up someone’s sleeve come this Monday from Madison Square Garden. Or not. The question is, when will the proverbial shoe drop? Or will it?

Too Many PPV Events? “Monthly PPV’s in wrestling are dependent on one key element, long term creative planning. I like the fact that themed events are being utilized, also. However, too many specialty bouts can start to run together and lose their identity. Great PPV revenue is generated by “stars” being engaged in personal issues. Two guys or four guys inside a cage doesn’t guarantee success simply because it’s a cage match. If one sees only a handful of cage matches a year that’s one thing but if they become a regular diet then the novelty of the cage looses its effectiveness. Adding new talents into the mix is also marketable as fans are curious as to how the younger guys will do in an elevated environment. PPV’s are essential to the overall success of the business and will be constantly re-evaluated and strategized as time goes on.

Hogan's First iMPACT Appearance?, WWE's Reaction, More

0

Source: PWTorch.com

— There’s no definitive word on when Hogan will show up in-person on TNA television. There is talk that TNA will film something in a private studio to keep the details of his first appearance on iMPACT from leaking to the internet. For what it’s worth, there’s speculation that he may not make his first real appearance for the company until January.

— The decision to hold the Hogan press conference at Madison Square Garden was meant by the Hogan camp as a shot at Vince McMahon, due to the McMahon family’s long history with the building. A source claims Hogan did not inform MSG management that he would announce anything related to TNA, and simple told them there would be a press conference with television cameras.

There are mixed reports of Vince’s reaction to Hogan’s signing. Some witnesses say Vince was in a lousy mood at the Smackdown tapings following the news, while others say Vince was still the same old Vince with his “poker face on.” One source says that there was initially some curiosity within WWE regarding the signing, but that went away when TNA iMPACT drew a 1.3 rating with Hogan’s segment being the lowest-rated.
