Low Ki Talks About Training At WWE Developmental

14

Former TNA & Ring of Honor star Low Ki, who wrestles as Kaval for Florida Championship Wrestling, recently spoke to the Miami Herald about his time at WWE’s developmental territory. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Training at WWE Developmental: “The experience in FCW has been great. As for me, my beginning, being from the New York area, starting in LIWF, advancing through the ECWA and moving onto doing a lot of things on the indies, going to Japan and TNA, the road has been long for me, but I get here [FCW), and it’s another challenge. That to me is a very important thing for any kind of professional. You need to keep challenging yourself to make sure your skills are shark, and at the same time, you’re taking on a whole new skill set because every company is different, has different rules and is run by different people.”

His New Ring Name, “Kaval”: “I had the spelling of the name differently, which was from the Philippian language Tagalog. It was spelled K-a-W-a-l, but in speaking with management, they said the name itself would probably be a little more difficult for the casual fan to pronounce. So we came up with pronouncing it as a `v’, knowing that in some European languages the `w’ is actually a double v, and that’s why it’s pronounced with a `v’.”

He continued, “So we were playing around with the idea, and the Kaval name came to me used with a `v’ instead of a `w’. The name meant soldier. Me in the ring, I’m a warrior. I’m a soldier. I really go in there and really try to give the people their money’s worth by giving them a hard fought battle.”

Working With Daniel Bryan in FCW: “In every field of work, there is always a contrast to who you are. That contrast for me happens to be Daniel Bryan. Anytime we’ve stepped into the ring, I’ve felt he’s always brought the best out of me, and I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job bringing the best out of him. Because of challenges like that, it makes us grow as people and as competitors.”

Ric Flair To Wrestle Again, Booker T’s TNA Status & More

16

– Ric Flair spoke to the UK’s Daily Mirror this week to hype TNA’s Maximum iMPACT! III tour of the UK in January. In part 1 of a video interview conducted with Flair, he says he will wrestle on the tour and will remain and on-air character with TNA as long as he remains healthy. He also says he’s currently the happiest he’s been since 1986 – because TNA “lets him be Ric Flair,” something he couldn’t do in WWE. Flair says Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are with TNA for the long haul and makes the bold claim that TNA will have “as much awareness as” WWE in six months time.

– After Booker T made a surprise appearance at last weekend’s TNA live event from Houston, Texas, the company issued the following statement to PWInsider.com clarifying that it was a one-time deal:

“Booker T is not affiliated with TNA Wrestling at this time. However, due to a mechanical issue, AJ Styles was unable to fly in for the TNA live event, and Booker made a surprise appearance in his place. TNA prides itself on creating the best live events in professional wrestling, and you never know what can happen when you attend TNA Live.”

Officials Happy With CM Punk, Drew McIntyre Falls Out Of Favor

13

(source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

— CM Punk won points with management for his effort in getting the crowd back into his Over the Limit match with Rey Mysterio after the bout was awkwardly halted so a trainer could treat his head wound. When the audience began to turn against the match, Punk called an audible by attacking Mysterio in an effort to get things back on track.

— Drew McIntyre has reportedly fallen out favor with management as he’s gained a reputation of being high maintenance not to mention that he’s failed to get over to the degree of his push. Initial plans called for McIntyre’s undefeated streak to result in a World Heavyweight Title reign. Instead, Jack Swagger ended up in the spot and McIntyre was left to feud with Matt Hardy.

— Sunday’s Over the Limit pay-per-view at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan drew 11,000 paid fans with a live gate of approximately $675,000.

Ric Flair Says He’ll Never Retire Again & Talks TNA, WWE

11

The legendary Ric Flair was recently interviewed by the UK’s DigitalSpy.com to hype TNA’s Maximum iMPACT! 3 UK tour in January. Here are some highlights of what the Nature Boy said about:

Working for TNA: “I love it, it’s fantastic. The fact they are working so hard to enhance their brand and become competitive with other sports entertainment companies is huge. They have the money behind them and they have a tremendous boss in Dixie Carter. She is awesome to work for and – unlike most promoters – she is sympathetic in a very unsympathetic business!”

The Internet: “I can’t even turn a computer on and if I could I wouldn’t pay any attention to it anyway! It’s not that I don’t respect the fans, but it’s just what can a wrestling fan tell me about wrestling? One of the problems with the young guys is they are more concerned with what the fans think about them than what they are achieving as individuals and what their boss thinks of them. But that’s normal with young guys and I get it but it’s nothing that will ever affect my role or thought process about myself. I know when I am in the ring when I am good and on, and when I leave the building if I was good and on. And 99 percent of the time I was on or I wouldn’t be here today!”

Retiring Again: “I don’t even think like that. I have already had one retirement. I’ll never retire again. I’ll just walk away. Or fall off the top rope and turn to ash or dust! I’ll just crumble and they will sweep me into a waste basket and I’ll be gone!”

Does He Miss WWE?: “I have friends I miss but I have made new friends here. I don’t dwell on the past ever. I’ll always have those guys for friends and we’ll always respect each other, but it’s like anything else, when you go home you go home. I don’t watch myself on TV. I go home and relax and enjoy my wife, my kids, and I have some grandchildren I love playing with. I’m in a good place and I do what I love doing.”

Melina Reveals Who She’s Dating, Batista Removed From Roster

14

— On Twitter, Melina noted watching the season finale of Lost with John Morrison. When asked if they are dating, she admitted yes.

She responded “Jomo or Duct Tape? Hee hee. John Definitely is.” to the following queries: “@marywwefan “are you two dating?” @ApexPredatorKM “so he’s your constant? Desmond and Penny with pyro?”

— As seen this past Monday night on Raw, Batista announced he was quitting WWE after refusing to take part in Fatal 4-Way qualifying match against Randy Orton. His profile has since been removed from the Raw roster page and placed in the WWE Alumni section. WWE has yet to make an official announcement concerning his apparent departure from the company.

— In other roster moves, WWE has added Bret Hart to its Raw roster page. Also, Carlito was removed from the page Wednesday, days after his release from the organization.

*Spoilers* TNA iMPACT! Tapings Results For Tonight

6

Here are spoiler results for TNA iMPACT set to air on May 27th, courtesy of Tim Capture and Wrestlingnewsworld.com:

Taped on Monday:

* They advertised Half Pint Brawlers coming to Spike on June 2nd. One of the stars, Puppet joins the commentary team.

* Announced as for Impact, for the TNA Knockouts Titles, Sarita and Taylor Wilde vs. The Beautiful People. Winner via a claw slam from Lacey onto Taylor, The Beautiful People. Puppet celebrates in the ring with them afterwards and smacks Velvet’s butt so they beat Puppet up. Lacey feels bad about it and checks on Puppet. When she does he kisses her. She breaks free and goes in for more and makes out with him again.

* Kazarian vs. Jay Lethal. Flair comes out during the match and distracts Lethal allowing Kaz to take over. Winner after another Flair distraction, Kazarian via schoolboy. Flair attacks Lethal afterwards and beats on him for awhile until Lethal turns it around and takes over. He hits a back body drop and clotheslines Flair out of the ring. AJ Styles then runs out and attacks Lethal. Kaz stops him so he can do it instead but Lethal dropkicks both of them out.

Taped Tonight:

* Jeff Hardy is out. He’s out for a simple reason, to find out what’s up with Mr. A–hole himself, Mr. Anderson. Hardy says without further adieu, here he is. Anderson comes out and the crowd chants a–hole. He says maybe he does things like that to confuse you. Maybe to confuse different people. Maybe it’s because he’s an a–hole. Look at Hardy, he’s got green hair, sweet tattoos, the whole thing and maybe he walks down the street and old people call him an a–hole. He tells Hardy to embrace his inner a–hole. He points to people in the crowd and says they’re an a–hole, he’s an a–hole, everyone should be an a–hole. AJ Styles, Ric Flair, Beer Money and Desmond Wolfe come out. AJ says he saw he has a match with him tonight and he doesn’t belong in the same ring as him and that he asked for the match. Hardy says he doesn’t ask for a match. AJ says he wasn’t talking to him, he was talking to Anderson. AJ says do you know who I am? Anderson says he does know who AJ is but does he know who he is? He says let him introduce himself. The mic is lowered, he does the Mr. Anderson intro and his music hits. Anderson was cheered and acted like a total babyface.

* Ink Inc. vs. Team 3D vs. The Band of Hall, Nash & Eric Young, non title. Winner via Spear on Brother Ray from Jesse Neal, Ink Inc. The whole match Ray was being brutal to Neal while Devon tried to stop it. Afterwards Ray asks Devon if he’s out of his mind. He then challenges Neal to a match at Slammiversary, teacher vs. the student. Devon gets in his face again and the segment ends.

* Jason Hervey is here sitting next to Dixie Carter.

* Orlando Jordan (wearing Abyss pasties) vs. Abyss. Chelsea is with Abyss but is obviously unhappy and troubled. Winner via DQ, Abyss. During the match Abyss got pushed into Chelsea. As Abyss was checking on her, Desmond Wolfe came out and attacked Abyss with a pipe. Jordan and Wolfe beat down Abyss until Rob Terry came in for the save. Abyss carried Chelsea to the back.

* RVD is out. He’s out to talk to Sting and he knows he’s here. So he has a shot at the TNA Championship. You can watch some amazing matches of RVD to get ready. You can train real hard. But that’s not you Sting. You want to hide in the shadows and ambush me. He gets it. He wants RVD to know he’s a force to reckon with. Maybe he has it out for him since he beat Sting in 5 seconds in his debut. He knows Sting’s accomplishments. He’s had some of his own. It’s weird their paths never crossed but they have now. If he wants to come out now he can show him what he’s got coming. Sting’s music hits but he doesn’t come out. Instead, footage of Sting beating RVD with the bat is shown. Sting is actually in the rafters and says he’s going to take the title from him. The footage is only a small taste of what he’s going to do to him at Slammiversary. Sting’s music hits and he leaves.

* Kurt Angle is out and joins commentary. Desmond Wolfe vs. Jeff Hardy. Hardy hit a Twist of Fate but the referee had been knocked out from an errant Whisper in the Wind. Hardy went to check on the referee and Wolfe used a loaded sock. Winner via loaded sock, Desmond Wolfe.

* Matt Morgan is out. Two weeks ago we got jumped from the back by that savage Samoa Joe. Next we get robbed of the tag titles by Hall and Nash. Now he’s told we need to find a new partner to get back the titles we never lost. We believe in helping elevate others though and can turn this negative into a positive. He puts out an open invite to anybody come out and tryout for greatness. No one comes out but Morgan sees Angle at commentary and asks if he wants the shot. Angle finally goes to the ring. Morgan asks him if he wants to become a star. Angle says didn’t he pin Morgan the last time they were in the ring? Morgan says he’ll slow it down and ask again. Does he want to be his partner or not? He then takes a cheap shot at Angle and says “not”. Security holds Angle back. Angle tries to get at Morgan as Morgan laughs, then Samoa Joe’s music hits and he comes out. Morgan takes off and Joe and Angle have a staredown. Both leave without anymore violence.

* AJ Styles vs. Mr Anderson. Winner via crossbody block reversal, AJ Styles. After the match, Anderson admits AJ got him, got him at his own freaking game. He thinks AJ pulled his tights. He asks the a–holes if AJ did. They chant that he did so Anderson attacks AJ. Beer Money runs out and helps AJ beat Anderson down. Hardy eventually runs out to make the save. Hardy and Anderson square off. Hardy puts his hand out to shake and Anderson accepts and shakes Hardy’s hand.

* Xplosion match, Jeremy Buck vs. Amazing Red vs. Alex Shelley. Winner via Kryptonite Krunch/Celtic Cross on Jeremy Buck, Alex Shelley.

Orton Says His Injury Isn’t Serious, Virgil To Be Written Out

11

(sources: Pro Wrestling Torch, Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

— Randy Orton has told friends he doesn’t expect his shoulder injury to keep him out of action for long. While he initially feared the worst when he suffered the injury at Over The Limit, it appears he will be healed in time for next month’s Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view, which he is advertised for.

Though Orton appeared to suffer the injury during his match with Edge on Sunday, he entered the match hurt. He worked a tag match with John Cena against Batista and Sheamus the previous night and was nursing the arm late in the bout. It doesn’t appear a bump caused the injury as after making a tag to Cena, he immediately grabbed his arm and held it in pain for the remainder of match.

— Ted DiBiase suffered a concussion very early in his match with R-Truth this past Sunday night at Over The Limit when Truth slapped him across the face and knocked him loopy. An audible was called due to the injury, as DiBiase was tabbed to blame Virgil for his loss, subsequently knocking him out with the Dream Street. It remains unclear at this time whether Santino Marella hitting Virgil with the Vulcan Neck Pinch in a comedy segment the following night on Raw constituted his character being written off, or if it will happen within the next few weeks.

Regarding DiBiase, he won’t be allowed to wrestle until medically cleared. He is expected to be kept out the ring for a few weeks so he can heal.

Russo’s Future In TNA, Angle Banged Up, Stable For Foley?

17

– Vince Russo is looking to become Executive Producer of TNA iMPACT, if he leaves the creative team. This is similar to the job that Kevin Dunn holds on WWE’s RAW brand.

– Despite returning to the ring already, Kurt Angle is still banged up from the Lockdown match with Mr. Anderson. Angle hurt his ribs again at the May 21st TNA live event.

– Speaking of busted ribs, Homicide is also nursing some soreness after working in a bad ring on the independent scene a few weeks back. Homicide aggrivated the injury even worse during a match with Japanese legend Jushin Lisger at the May 22nd for Jersey All Pro show.

– As previously reported, the reason TNA did the storyline with taking Mick Foley off TV was because he was running out of dates on his contract. Foley recently pitched an idea to TNA officials that he’d return this summer with a new stable. It’s been speculated in the past that Foley would team up with a group of ECW Originals.

Pope’s Shoulder Injured, New TNA Knockout Has Some Upset

3

– D’Angelo Dinero recently suffered a labral tear in his shoulder. Though he appeared at last week’s television tapings to take part in a segment promoting the Top 10 Contender’s Rankings, he told friends he’s a month or two away from being healthy enough to return to the ring.

– A number of people within TNA are negative on the company’s decision to sign independent women’s wrestler Betsy Ruth (Mary-Kate Duignan), whose Rosie Lottalove persona is reportedly based on Rosie O’Donnell and mid-90s WWE character Bertha Faye. Some within the organization see her as a potential replacement for Awesome Kong. However, she’s considered very green and many feel there are several other talented females available who could make an immediate impact in the company.

Many assume management leans on talent from Team 3D’s wrestling academy because they work cheap and reside within driving distance of the Impact! Zone in Orlando. One wrestler believes management is paying Duignan $250 per appearance, and noted that TNA would have likely retained Kong had they bumped her salary up $250.

Jeff Probst To Host Raw?, Negative Report On New Samoan Trio

4

— Jimmy and Jules Uso debuted on Monday’s Raw alongside Sarona Snuka as the mystery trio that laid out The Hart Dynasty. The Uso brothers are the twin sons of former WWE performer Rikishi while Sarona is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka. One wrestler familiar with the trio said they are not ready for prime time.

“Very, very sloppy,” the wrestler told the Pro Wrestling Torch regarding the brothers Uso. “They need a lot of work.”

Meanwhile, the wrestler delivered an even harsher review on the daughter of “The Superfly.”

“She’s the shits,” said the wrestler. “Sloppy as shit.”

— It was reported on SurvivorSucks.com that Survivor host Jeff Probst will host a future edition of Raw. Their report has yet to be confirmed.

— The WWE website has added Diamond Dallas Page and Cherry to its Alumni section.

Rikishi Talks About His Twin Sons & Umaga’s Death

5

Former WWE superstar Rikishi was recently interviewed by Jason Clevett of Slam Sports about the unfortunate passing of his brother Eddie “Umaga” Fatu last year as well his sons the Uso twins, who made their debut on Monday’s RAW attacking the Hart Dynasty. Here are some highlights of what Rikishi said about:

Umaga’s Death: “It’s a great loss, not just for our personal lives, but also for professional wrestling as well, as the fans … You never expect to get a call like that. I’m having goosebumps right here sitting talking to you about it. My dealing with my brother’s loss was through the fans and the family. You would not believe how much heart, calls and emails, condolences from fans throughout the whole world. I was very proud of that.”

“Also to have so many people out of the business of wrestling, the Umaga character has touched everybody, good or bad,” Rikishi said. “It’s something that’s out of our hands. You never want it to happen to you personally. I’m very grateful that I had the last part of his life to spend with him in Australia. We had a heart to heart talk. We hadn’t seen each other in a while. With that note, everything was fantastic. So my heart is full, my heart is full. But I can only say this, I’m very sorry for the loss of professional wrestling, such a good wrestler.”

His Sons, The Uso Twins: “”You guys look out for them! They’re in a developmental deal now. What I told my boys was, ‘You guys have a lot of shoes to fill, but do what you feel comfortable with. Win the fans, win the match.’ They’re seeing why daddy walks through the door limping, don’t want to throw the football, don’t want to play basketball. But they’re going to find out first-hand.”

He added, “”I remember back in my day, doing indy shots here and there on the road, my kids seen me, how I was raised up in the business because they lived it with me. So anytime I’d see the Rotundas, Briscos, or any other third or second generation come into the business, to me, it’s a natural thing to do. I told both my sons, ‘I want to see you play NFL football, but you always have wrestling to fall back on.’ Obviously, they wanted to try the family business and try their hand at professional wrestling. Honestly, the world get ready, because you are about ready to see twice — when I say twice, twice the entertainment, twice the electricity, you’re about ready to see twice of The Rock!”

Cena’s Tooth Knocked Out At OTL, Cody Rhodes On SyFy Show

4

– Add WWE Champion John Cena to the list of superstars injured at Sunday’s WWE Over The Limit pay-per-view. Cena posted on Twitter.com/WWEJCena this morning:

Morning CeNation. Spent last 3 hrs at dentist. Got a tooth knocked out at OTL. Mouth numb.

He later added that a fan suggested he do a “Cena after the dentist” video – a reference to the “David after the dentist” viral video. Cena replied, “Brilliant. Is this real life?”

In case you’re living under a rock and haven’t seen the “David After the Dentist” video (it’s got over 60 million views on YouTube), here it is .. Imagine Cena like that?

– The SyFy Channel sent out a press release this morning announcing that WWE superstar Cody Rhodes will be appearing on an episode of the show “Warehouse 13” in August. Rhodes will play character Joanne Kelly’s (Myka Bering) high school love interes. According to the press release:

“Rhodes guest stars as “Kurt Smoller,” the former captain of Myka’s high school football team. Charming and good-natured, Kurt shows up at the high school reunion looking better than ever and, in spite of complications brought on by exposure to an artifact, Myka finds herself romantically drawn to him.”

Randy Orton Injured: Update On His Seperated Shoulder

13

WWE RAW superstar Randy Orton is currently nursing a separated shoulder during following his match with Edge WWE’s Over The Limit pay-per-view.

At the show, there were a swarm of medics checking him out backstage immediately after his match with Edge. As Orton was pounding the mat teasing the RKO, he could be seen noticeably wincing in pain. The referee then motioned the “X” signal and both wrestlers went outside the ring. Edge continued the bout by kicking Orton, avoiding working over his upper torso. Edge then tried spearing Orton, but Orton moved out of the way and Edge crashed into the barricade. The bout was ruled a double count-out. Following the ruling, Jerry Lawler speculated that Orton had suffered a shoulder injury, given that Orton has a history of shoulder problems.

After Orton got to the backstage area at Over The Limit, he reportedly went ballistic and wrecked the trainer’s room.

Orton appeared on RAW the following night and qualified for the Fatal 4 Way match against John Cena, Edge and Sheamus when Batista refused to wrestle him.

UPDATE: WWE Champion John Cena spoke about Orton’s injury on Twitter:

“I do not know Randy Orton’s condition so I really don’t want to speak on his behalf although I do hope he is well,” Cena said. “I have said it time and time again about him, he is one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

Jim Ross also wrote the following on JRsBarBQ.com about the injury:

“Randy Orton’s apparent shoulder injury, I can’t be sure if it is a shoulder or the seriousness of the injury, really had a profound affect on the PPV. The Orton-Edge match ended as best it could by most standards. Orton, obvious and excruciating pain gutted it out to his credit. After this match the show seemed to valley somewhat until the final bout.

“If, big if, it is Randy’s shoulder, it won’t be the first time that RKO has suffered shoulder issues. Officials will know more Monday regarding Randy’s status. Hopefully this will be a deal where Orton’s off for only a brief period of time and won’t require any surgery to tighten up the shoulder. OU, now Minnesota Viking running back, Adrian Peterson had the same issues his freshman year at Oklahoma but surgery took care of his issues and he did not miss that much time…

“I sure hope that Randy Orton is going to be O.K. as losing him especially hurts. Randy hit me with a text late Sunday night and he’s not even sure what the verdict will be until tomorrow. Raw is going to be an especially compelling, two hours of live TV Monday night.”

UPDATE 2: Randy Orton’s Shoulder Injured Before Over The Limit? (Video)

Morrison Injured, Crazed Mickie James Fan In Court, Lovitz Sued

7

– WWE RAW superstar John Morrison has not been on television as of late because he is still dealing with an ankle injury. No word yet on when he’ll be back in action.

– Zavr Peygumbari, the crazed Mickie James fan who threatened to blow up WWE headquarters after Mickie James was released, was in court today to face the charges filed against him. He applied for an “accelerated rehabilitation” probation program. If he is accepted into the program, he can be put on probation for up to two years and if probation is completed, the charges would be dismissed. Zavr is due back in court on June 22nd.

– WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper will be performing this Thursday night at Jon Lovitz’ Comedy Club in Los Angeles.

– Speaking of Jon Lovitz, he’s being sued by the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team for almost $100,000, according to CBSNews.com. According to the Dodgers, Lovitz purchased three “Dugout Club” luxury seats at Dodger Stadium in March 2008 for the 2008-2010 seasons. The Dodgers canceled Lovitz’s seats in April because of non-payment for this year.

RAW Rating Is In & It’s Not Pretty

26

Monday’s episode of WWE RAW featuring John Lovitz as guest host drew a 3.11 cable rating, down from last week’s 3.4.

The show averaged 4.5 million viewers, with a 3.07 in hour one and a 3.15 in hour two.

Considering the fact that WWE put on a pretty loaded show with Bret Hart being named the new RAW GM, Batista’s official farewell and the Fatal 4 Way qualifying matches, a 3.1 has to be considered disappointing.

Carlito’s Dad Says Carlito Has A Problem With Prescription Pills

6

As reported earlier, Carlito — real name Carlos Colón — was released from his WWE contract last Friday due to his first violation of the company’s Wellness Program and subsequent refusal to enter a rehabilitation facility. Company sources indicate Colón did not actually fail a drug test. Rather, management felt he was “unfit to perform” after arriving to the Air Canada Centre for last week’s Raw taping. He was told he needed to enter rehab, but refused, denying he had a problem. Hence, officials felt they had no choice but to cut ties with him.

Regarding the problem in question, his father, Carlos Colón, Sr., revealed in an interview with primerohora.com that his son has developed a painkiller addiction. The elder Colón said his son started using them recently in order to cure debilitating back pain, but his use had spiraled into abuse.

“I want to clarify that, contrary to internet and message board rumors, he did not test positive for marijuana, cocaine, heroin or any of those drugs. He was tested because they suspected he was abusing painkillers and it proved to be true,” Colón, Sr. stated. “Painkillers are somewhat of a necessary evil for pro wrestlers because of the pain and the constant travel. He started taking one or two when he broke his arm years ago and then it seems he went out of control when he started having issues with his back. He needs help.”

He said his son’s lingering back pain was due to the execution of his finishing maneuver, ‘The Backstabber’ (double knee backbreaker), as he’s forced to endure the brunt of 200 to 300 pound wrestlers on his knees each time he utilizes the attack. He never sought medical attention for his back pain, and thus his reliance on painkillers increased.

Interestingly, Colón also said that should his son enter rehab and successfully complete the program, he would get his job back.

“Eddie (Primo), Orlando (cousin of Carlito, known as Tito Colón in FCW) and I are doing everything we can to pressure him into going to rehab and admit he has a problem,” said Colón, Sr. “This is something that he needs to admit to himself and improve and get out of that situation.”

The late Eddie Fatu (a/k/a Umaga) was similarly released by World Wrestling Entertainment last June after refusing to enter rehabilitation due to a perceived problem with painkillers. The combined effects of painkillers, tranquilizers and a muscle relaxant ultimately resulted in his death last December at the tender age of 36. The abuse of painkillers has triggered the passings of a number of wrestlers under the age of 50 including Test (33), Rick Rude (40), Brian Adams (44) and Louie Spicolli (27), among others.

Colón reportedly asked WWE for his release three years ago due to frustration over the direction of his character, but was ultimately talked into staying. There was speculation at the time that he was bound for TNA. Considering he’s no longer affiliated to WWE, such speculation has once again resumed. According to sources inside TNA, there is said to be no interest in the ex-WWE star at this time. Borash Talks TNA Roster Cuts, iMPACT! Leaving Monday Nights

10

TNA announcer Jeremy Borash was a guest on the “Right After Wrestling” radio show last night and spoke in-depth about TNA iMPACT! leaving Monday nights and returning to Thursdays.

“I think it’s definitely a different era. It would have been nice to re-capture the competitive spirit of being on Monday nights, but at the end of the day, it was just more of an inconvenience. Perhaps being back on Thursday nights, we can prosper and thrive.  At the same time, I would have liked to have stuck it out a little bit longer on Mondays, especially at a point where there were very exciting programs that we did produce.” He added, “There are a lot of things about the Monday Night Wars that we could have taken part in and really brought some popularity to the idea of it again.”

Borash was also asked about the online reports that TNA will be letting go 15-20 superstars in coming weeks in order to save money.

“I don’t know if you look at it as roster cuts. You don’t say anything or we don’t hear anything about when we spend more money to hire people. When you say ‘roster cuts,’ it obviously invokes an ‘oooh’ kind of feeling to it,” Borash said. “At the same time, we have 60-something people under contract, so I think it’s a natural evolution of business. Sometimes you do have to trim the fat. The programs are being written differently where less people are being featured more prominently.”

Borash also spoke also responded to criticism that “Total Nonstop Action Wrestling” and “TNA” are terrible names for a wrestling promotion. Many have pointed out that the name is grammatically awkward and the letters “TNA” conjure up images of what the acronym is most commonly known for – “tits and ass.”

“We have years of promotion invested in it and it’s definitely something, you know – what it is, Total Nonstop Action – they are three easy-to-remember letters. Whether you like it or you don’t like it, it’s stuck around and it’s definitely made us three easy letters to remember.”
