LA Knight Says ‘Dummy’ For The First Time On WWE Television

0

WWE SmackDown aired a best-of 2023 special for their December 29th episode. Some fans didn’t think that there would be any notable moments on the show, but the opening segment of the program included LA Knight breaking out a throwback signature that some fans miss.

LA Knight and the Dummies

LA Knight used to call everyone a “dummy” before he landed in WWE. That trend didn’t continue in WWE for some reason, but he never killed the idea. In fact, he seemed open to the prospect of bringing back his Namer of Dummies moniker.

While speaking to Chris Val Vliet months ago, LA Knight was asked about bringing “dummy” back. He said that 90% of fans in WWE don’t even know that he used to pop TNA Wrestling crowds with that word for years prior to becoming a WWE Superstar.

“I’ve considered. Some people want it, but 90% of the people probably don’t even know. Could it come back? Maybe sprinkle it in here or there, you never know.”

LA Knight Says Dummy in WWE

LA Knight opened up the SmackDown December 29th special episode with a little promo on 2023. He said “yeah” and was his trademark self. Then he closed out the segment by ordering them to “get to the clips, dummy.”

That marks the first time that LA Knight has said dummy on WWE television, but it’s not the first time he’s said in a WWE ring. In October, LA Knight used dummy a couple of times during an in-ring promo about the Bloodline, but it didn’t make the air.

LA Knight may fill 2024 with a new trademark word, because he has definitely cashed in on the dummy word in the past.

Mercedes Mone Is No Longer In Talks For WWE Return — Expected To Appear Elsewhere Imminently

0

Mercedes Mone is no longer under any pro wrestling contract. That brought up big rumors about her WWE return, but it appears she is expected to appear elsewhere now.

Mercedes Mone’s WWE Return Status Revealed

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that, at this time, WWE and Mercedes Mone are no longer engaged in active conversations about her making a return to the company.

Top free agent Mercedes Mone aka Sasha Banks and WWE had been engaged in conversations to possibly bring her back to the company. However, WWE sources stated to Fightful Friday night that the two sides are no longer in active negotiations regarding a return. The two sides had recently been engaged in conversations about a return. We’re told the dialogue was friendly, the back and forth failed to progress, and WWE sources claim that their side walked as a result of it.

It was also noted that another source “believed that she would end up appearing elsewhere imminently, but didn’t state where.”

AEW is set to hold their Worlds End Show this Saturday, followed by NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom next week, and TNA Wrestling is gearing up for a rebranding ahead of Hard to Kill in two weeks. So, Mercedes Mone has a few options if she wants to make a big debut on a special night.

Mercedes Mone’s Future in Pro Wrestling Uncertain

This is quite shocking, because many fans were really hoping for Sasha Banks’ return to the company. It doesn’t appear that is in the cards right now.

Mercedes Mone just registered trademarks for, what could be, a clothing line. She has other options in the entertainment industry, as her acting career could see more credits than the Mandalorian down the line.

Although Bayley opened stated that she begs Mercedes Mone to make a return to WWE at every chance she can, it doesn’t appear that worked. This is also in spite of how amazing Triple H has booked the Damage CTRL stable over the past year, something that Mercedes Mone certainly saw from afar.

Missy Beefcake Releases Homophobic Video Of Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine

0

Greg “The Hammer” Valentine’s name trended today on X, but not in a way he would ever want it to. A video was released of him using some harsh homosexual language, and it is quite shocking.

Greg Valentine’s Homophobic Video

Missy Beefcake, wife of WWE Hall of Famer Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, recently shared video clips on her X account featuring Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. It was not stated where this video was shot, but Valentine was using derogatory language targeted at the LGBTQ+ community.

In one clip, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine is heard saying, “You f*cking f*ggot. I can whip you with one arm tied behind my f*cking back!” Another clip captured Valentine mentioning, “The f*ggot on CNN besides Don Lemon.” He was talking about Anderson Cooper in that second clip.

Missy Beefcake dropped those two clips, along with a short caption to sum up her thoughts on the content.

“Greg Valentine making homophobic remarks! He’s disgusting!!!!”

Public Reaction to Greg Valentine’s Comments

While such language might have been more tolerable in the territorial days of pro wrestling, where Greg “The Hammer” Valentine gained fame, it is receiving significant backlash in the present day.

Greg “The Hammer” Valentine is now facing criticism for his remarks, with some calling for consequences and expressing their disapproval of his actions. Fans are weighing in about what Valentine said, and there will likely be a lot more discussion and memes to follow.

Video Is Possible Revenge

It should be noted that Greg “The Hammer” Valentine laid quite a hammer down on Missy Beefcake in a recent interview. He was asked who he loved beating up the most in the ring, to which The Hammer replied Brutus Beefcake, because of “that f*cking c*nt that he married.” He also said that they didn’t have to cut that part out, which they didn’t.

Missy Beefcake’s response to that shot very well could have been in the form of this latest homophobic video drop. There are definitely shots being fired between those two pro wrestling personalities, and things got ugly in a hurry.

WWE Close To Landing Former Champion For Day 1 RAW

0

WWE’s first show of 2024 will go down on January 1st with the Day 1 episode of RAW. The company obviously wants 2024 to be a great year, and they are expected to kick things off with a big return.

WWE RAW Day 1 Location

WWE will hold their Day 1 RAW at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego. It appears that they are preparing a big return for the show.

WWE Day 1 Surprise Planned

Sean Ross Sapp ran a report on Fightful Select that said WWE is looking to add some star power to their Day 1 show. A former champion is expected to return, but no specific name has been reported yet.

We haven’t been given a specific name, but were told it was someone not currently on their roster. It’s worth noting that “former WWE Champion” was the terms used by those sources.

It was not revealed who we’re talking about, or which title this “former Champion” held. It also was not noted whether this former champion is an active talent or retired.

The report noted that WWE is “on the one-yard line” in landing a former WWE Champion to appear on the show, We will have to see who WWE has planned for fans on January 1st, but this report is sure to get fans guessing.

Britt Baker’s Current AEW Status Amid Television Absence

0

Britt Baker was the first woman, other than Brandi Rhodes, that Tony Khan inked to a talent deal. She was plucked from the indies, with very little television exposure, and she became one of the top women for AEW. Sadly, she hasn’t been seen on television much at all in recent memory.

Britt Baker’s AEW Absence

On November 29th, Britt Baker dropped a post on X which insinuated that she isn’t thrilled about how much she’s been used in 2023 by AEW. Her post directly brought attention to her lack of promo time.

Tonight’s #AEWDynamite:

MJF live promo time: 7 mins

Christian Cage live promo time: 10 mins

All of 2023 #AEWDynamite:

Britt Baker live promo time: 0 mins

Britt Baker’s Current Situation in AEW

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Britt Baker is actually injured. Tony Khan let this piece of information slip out during the AEW Worlds End press conference. He listed Britt Baker along with others that AEW is currently missing due to injury or illness.

The reason Britt Baker hasn’t been around apparently is an injury situation. At the media call, Tony Khan talked about key people out with injuries right now and mentioned Kenny Omega, Pac, Adam Cole, Baker and Jamie Hayter

Britt Baker has been around AEW

It was later noted by Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select that Britt Baker has been around AEW television despite her injury. She was backstage during the December 27th episode of AEW Dynamite, but she wasn’t meant to appear on-screen. Britt Baker was only visiting this time around.

Fightful is told that Dr. Britt Baker DMD was backstage at Wednesday’s show in Orlando after being out of action for several months. Obviously Baker wasn’t used on the show, and was just backstage visiting.

The nature of Britt Baker’s injury was not disclosed. The AEW All Access reality television show featured her, and highlighted her back injury at the time. Hopefully, Britt Baker will see her return in 2024, and it will translate to much more promo time.

MJF Reveals What Currently Means ‘Everything’ To Him

0

MJF has a big weekend ahead of him and he knows it. The AEW World Champion will be defending his “Triple B” against Samoa Joe in the main event at World’s End, which so happens to be in MJF’s backyard of Uniondale, NY at the Nassau Colliseum.

In a new self-written article on the Player’s Tribune, MJF had a lot to reflect on and noted that he’s been with AEW since the company started in 2019.

January marks the five-year anniversary of AEW’s launch and in the feature, MJF credits Cody Rhodes for bringing him in and Tony Khan for signing him to a contract.

MJF leans into the notion that he’s becoming a free agent on January 1, but an educated guess would lead many to believe that he’s already signed a new deal with AEW. Either way, MJF closed out the piece by noting how big World’s End means to him, especially one aspect of the bout.

“Right now, though, as I’m writing this? It’s Wednesday morning. It’s three days before Worlds End. It’s five days from five years of MJF in AEW. I don’t know what comes next. Here’s what I do know. Wrestling in the main event of a card at Nassau Coliseum as AEW world champ? That sh*t means everything to me. Really. EVERYTHING.”

Another solid indication that MJF is not leaving AEW is the simple fact that he’s the World Champ and involved in the major over-arching storyline that involves him and the mysterious identity of “The Devil.” AEW colleague Ric Flair believes MJF should stay with AEW, stating he could be the next Randy Orton.

Maven: WWE Was Ready to Rehire Me in 2020. Then COVID Happened

0

Former WWE Superstar Maven Huffman would likely be working for WWE today, if not for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maven joined WWE in 2001 after co-winning that year’s Tough Enough with Nidia Guenard. During his four years with the promotion, Maven would become a three-time Hardcore Champion and is well-remembered for eliminating The Undertaker from the 2002 Royal Rumble match.

A Return Ruined by COVID

A few years after his release, WWE offered him a chance to return, but Maven declined, citing that he had a steady job with the Home Shopping Network. On a recent video from his YouTube channel, Maven recalled a time years later when he was ready to come back.

“I reached out to D-Von and knowing D-Von still had a great relationship with the WWE, I reached out and I said ‘D-Von, I see a path forward I see an opportunity and I know I know I could work with the company.’ The company that I love the company that brought me into this business and I see my opportunity not as a wrestler, age wins but I see my opportunity with maybe announcing, maybe backstage interview segments.”

D-Von was able to put a good word in with WWE, who brought Maven to the Performance Center in Florida. The former Superstar went on to explain how his audition for the role went.

“Tom [Phillips] took me back into a room where they had several monitors set up. What they do with these monitors is they practice, they get themselves ready for live television and they get themselves ready by calling old matches. And that’s what we were going to do that day… He knew I was buddies with Matt Cardona so he actually pulled one of Matt’s and Brian’s old tag matches out just to help aid me with my comfort level. So we then spend the next few hours just calling different matches and he’s guiding me.”

Maven felt the audition went very well and was pleased to bump into some old colleagues, including WWE’s current Head of Talent, Triple H.

“I happened to bump into Hunter and it was good catching up with Hunter. He and I probably talked for a good two to three minutes, caught up… We didn’t talk even talk to business. We talked family and just how we’ve been, just on a personal level so it was good catching up with him.”

After Phillips gave his seal of approval, Maven was contacted with an offer, which the former Tough Enough alum was excited to accept.

“They say ‘Maven if you were given the opportunity to accept a job but we told you you had to move here and it would take you 6 to 12 months coming to this facility and just working by the monitors and just learning different matches is that’s something that you’re willing to do at this level and at this age? And I said ‘Absolutely! I’ll start packing tonight! Tell me when I’ll move here as soon as possible!'”

Maven felt on top of the world for about four hours as he envisioned his future as a WWE commentator. That was until he turned on the TV that night, and saw how the COVID-19 pandemic was changing sports and entertainment.

“I get to the hotel and then I see it. Flashing up on the TV screen and every hope that I had was dashed in a second and what did I see? Flashed up on the TV screen was ‘NBA to cancel their regular season.’

“March 11th 2020 the day that the entire world shut down… That job, it took second place because obviously, we started hearing about just what was going on obviously you heard about people getting sick and family members being lost my goal immediately turned into making it back to New York.

“Within a month the entire world was on lockdown. WWE programming would stop. Live Events, they would only do studio shows in that location. Studio shows that only required a few announcers. Announcers they already had.”

Shawn Spears Had Surprising Hidden Final Appearance On AEW Television

0

Shawn Spears surprised AEW fans when he confirmed his departure from AEW. The former Tye Dillinger is set to be a free agent on January 1st, but he had one final role in AEW, although he wore a mask during that appearance.

Shawn Spears’ Final Role in AEW

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Shawn Spears was one of the masked men working for The Devil in recent weeks. This was his last role on AEW television prior to his departure.

“Spears hadn’t been used much but on a recent TV was one of the Devil’s guys.”

The Devil has appeared for several weeks, with masked men doing his bidding. It was not noted which segment Shawn Spears appeared in, but many believe The Kingdom played the roles of the two masked men who won the ROH World Tag Team Titles during the December 27th episode of AEW Dynamite.

Shawn Spears’ AEW Departure

Shawn Spears was among the initial group of talents signed by Tony Khan for the formation of AEW. He made his AEW debut during the Casino Battle Royale at the inaugural Double or Nothing event.

Sean Ross Sapp first broke the news of Shawn Spears’ AEW departure on Fightful Select. A short time later, Shawn Spears confirmed that he is leaving Tony Khan’s company.

Shawn Spears is scheduled to depart from AEW on January 1st. The separation is reported to be mutually agreeable as well.

Andrade El Idolo Expected to Return to WWE After AEW Run (Report)

0

Andrade El Idolo will be returning to WWE once his current contract with AEW expires, at least according to those within the Stamford promotion.

El Idolo joined AEW in June of 2021 and would make his in-ring debut for the promotion the following month. His debut for AEW came months after his release from WWE in March of that year. While WWE had initially declined Andrade’s request for a release, it was later granted.

Andrade Returning to WWE?

Some in WWE expect Andrade to return when the time is right, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this week. Those close to Andrade have also said that he may very well go back to WWE, but is also open to staying if Tony Khan makes a better offer than WWE. Some have criticized AEW for underutilizing Andrade, who is yet to hold gold in the promotion.

Andrade would also like to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling if the possibility comes up. He would have wanted to do the FantasticaMania show in February but it conflicts with his schedule.

Andrade in WWE

Andrade joined AEW in November 2015 and made his in-ring debut the following January at a Tampa, Florida live event. In November 2017, Andrade defeated Drew McIntyre to capture the NXT Championship. After being called up to the main roster, Andrade captured the United States Championship in late 2019 from Rey Mysterio.

If Andrade does return to WWE, he will be able to spend more time with his wife Charlotte Flair. Andrade’s father-in-law Ric Flair recently said that he will be staying with AEW for years to come after Sting retires next year.

Andrade El Idolo may not have much time left in AEW. Click here to find out more.

Hulk Hogan Featured In Nick Hogan’s DUI Arrest Police Footage

0

Nick Hogan was arrested for DUI in early December, and now we have footage. That police video also came from a source who has a lot of history with Hulk Hogan.

Nick Hogan’s DUI Arrest

Having entered a not guilty plea, Nick Hogan is set for a pre-trial hearing on January 17th. Complicating matters further, footage of his arrest has surfaced, shared by Bubba The Love Sponge, capturing Hulk Hogan’s arrival and interactions with law enforcement.

In the video, Hulk Hogan, is seen relying on a cane to help him get around. He was talking to police, but it didn’t stop his son’s arrest.

Hulk Hogan and Bubba The Love Sponge

Hulk Hogan’s relationship with Bubba The Love Sponge soured when a video emerged, depicting Hogan involved with Bubba’s wife, Heather. This was something that was agreed upon by Bubba, Hogan, and Heather, as Bubba can be heard in the video telling them to do what they’re about to do from the other room. Then, an infamous sex tape leaked that triggered the Gawker lawsuit.

During the Gawker trial, Hulk Hogan’s friendship with Bubba The Love Sponge became practically nonexistent due to a sex tape scandal. The tape became a central focus of the legal battle between Hogan and Gawker Media. Hogan sued Gawker for invasion of privacy, and the trial garnered widespread attention, touching on issues of celebrity privacy and media responsibility.

In the end, Hulk Hogan won the case, receiving a substantial settlement and contributing to Gawker’s eventual bankruptcy.

Kurtis ‘Mad Kurt’ Chapman Passes Away At 26

0

British pro wrestler Kurtis Chapman has tragically passed away at the age of 26.

He first started wrestling as a teenager almost a decade ago and gained popularity for his comedic in-ring approach. The cause of his death has not been disclosed yet.

English promotion Revolution Pro Wrestling reported the tragic news of his premature death:

“We, at Revolution Pro Wrestling are absolutely heartbroken to report the loss of our dear friend Kurtis Chapman.”

“We watched Kurtis grow from a child to a young man who loved professional wrestling and continued to excel in all aspects of his life. One of the most gifted technical wrestlers, charismatic characters and magnetic personalities. He will never be forgotten.”

His final match came in June this year when he successfully defended his Resurgence Arthouse Championship.

Tributes pour in for ‘Mad Kurt’

ATTACK! Pro Wrestling, another British company who Chapman worked with, published a touching tribute on X. A picture of Mad Kurt was captioned:

“Rest in peace, Kurtis.”

TNT Extreme Wrestling paid homage to the youngster by writing:

“Everyone at TNT extends their deepest condolences to the loved ones of Kurtis Chapman, better known as Mad Kurt.  Kurtis was not just a well-respected performer but a dear friend. We will miss not just him but the laughter and light he brought to all of us dearly.”

 Riot Cabaret Pro Wrestling wrote:

“We’re so sorry to hear this. Thinking of you all today and sending our deepest condolences to everyone who knew him.”

Wrestling fans have been in “shock” ever since the news broke on social media. One wrote: “Just… can’t believe this. RIP to someone who seemed to always be having the most fun he could at every opportunity. He’s going to be incredibly missed!”

Another fan added: “That’s awful news, (he) was a really fun wrestler to watch and always looked like he was doing something he loved. My condolences to all his family and friends.”

Mercedes Mone Secures New Trademarks As WWE Return Speculation Heats Up

0

Sasha Banks walked out of WWE in May 2022, along with Naomi, because they were tired of Vince McMahon’s booking. Mercedes Mone arrived in NJPW at the following Wrestle Kingdom, but her time in Japan could be over now. With a rumored WWE return on the horizon, The Boss is filing new trademarks.

Mercedes Mone’s New Trademarks

Mercedes Mone is gearing up for her return to the wrestling scene, leaving fans in suspense about her next destination. Adding an unexpected twist, she has recently secured rights to new trademarks.

According to PW Insider, Mone filed for trademarks like “Mone Wear,” “Time Is Mone,” and “Mone Talks” on December 22nd with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The filings were facilitated by patent attorney Michael E. Dockins, who has become famous for helping pro wrestlers lock down trademarks. In a day where intellectual property is king, Dockins is the man to call for pro wrestlers.

Those new trademarks for Mercedes Mone encompass entertainment and clothing purposes, hinting at a potential venture into the fashion world for Mone. She may just be locking down those names for safe keeping as well.

Mercedes Mone’s Career After WWE

Post-WWE, Mone’s wrestling journey included a big victory where she captured the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW Battle in the Valley in February 2023. She went on to drop that title to Mayu Iwatani in April 2023. However, during a match for the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Championship, she injured her ankle, and that put her out of action for months.

That unexpected injury saw Willow Nightingale win that match, even though she wasn’t booked to win.

Mercedes Mone’s Expected WWE Return

Mercedes Mone has teased that she has WWE on her mind. This is no secret, as she is no longer under NJPW contract. Fans are speculating in massive fashion that the 2024 Royal Rumble will see her return.

Sasha Banks left WWE because of Vince McMahon, who is no longer a creative factor anymore. Now that Triple H is running the ship, and Mercedes Mone saw what he did with Damage CTRL, that might give the former Women’s Champion a bigger reason to return.

That being said, Sasha Banks will command a huge pay day upon her return to WWE. The good news is that WWE has a ton of money to spend on top talent right now.

Cody Rhodes Fought Through Violent Illness Before WWE Live Event

0

Cody Rhodes is a top draw for WWE, and he realizes that. He has immense popularity among fans, and The American Nightmare wants to fulfill all of his booking obligations, even if that means he must fight illness to make it. His commitment to going the extra mile for his supporters is evident.

Cody Rhodes Wrestled Through Illness

During the WWE live event in Place Bell, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Rhodes on December 28th, Cody Rhodes engaged in a Last Man Standing Match against Damian Priest. He won that match, but fans had no idea what Cody was really going through.

Cody Rhodes jumped on X to share that moments before his entrance, he was throwing up. This vomit episode was apparently so violent that he lost some body weight in the process.

Fun fact/and an overshare – I vomited what felt like half my body weight 30 seconds before my music hit ha.

Thank you Montreal for lifting me up to be able to fight!

Cody Rhodes’ Future In WWE

This incident wasn’t the only instance of Cody Rhodes demonstrating his dedication. The American Nightmare brings it every time he can make it to the ring, no matter how he’s feeling.

Cody Rhodes already claimed a spot in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match. We will have to see if he wins the big match, but it wouldn’t be the worst bet someone could make right now.

Despite facing the challenge of vomiting heavily just before the match, Rhodes didn’t back down. Hopefully, he is able to get over that stomach issue so it doesn’t become a long term problem.

Scotty 2 Hotty Calls AEW In-Ring Debut a “Personal Career Highlight”

0

Former WWE Superstar Scotty 2 Hotty is pleased to have reached a “personal career highlight” after competing this week for AEW.

Scotty, real name Scott Garland, competed in a dark match this past Wednesday at AEW Dynamite: New Year’s Smash. The match saw the former WWE Tag Team Champion team with The Acclaimed & ‘Daddy Ass’ Billy Gunn to defeat Matt Menard, Jake Hager, and The Gunns. Taking to Twitter, Scotty reflected on being able to compete at the show.

Scotty 2 Hotty Behind the Scenes

After being released from WWE as a talent in 2007, Garland returned to the promotion in 2016 as a trainer in the Performance Center. Garland remained in the role until November 2021 when he was granted his requested release from the promotion. While he enjoyed his time with WWE, Garland was reportedly at odds with the direction of talent development following the launch of WWE NXT 2.0. He has been working backstage for AEW as a producer since having a tryout in July.

A Return to the Ring?

While this match was Garland’s AEW debut, Garland has remained semi-active in the ring outside of the All-Elite promotion. Garland’s most recent match before this week’s Dynamite was in June and saw him defeat ‘Florida Man’ at a DREAMWAVE Wrestling event. Garland has been open to the possibility of competing more for AEW and has been discussed for matches in the past. Garland was able to use his WWE ‘Too Cool’ theme as AEW acquired the license for it when obtaining the rights to use the Hardy Boyz theme.

McIntyre Mocks CM Punk, Undertaker’s Mt. Rushmore, Dijak Takes Credit & More

Drew McIntyre Mocks CM Punk

CM Punk made his WWE in-ring return earlier this week with a win over Dominik Mysterio, but his ring attire was underwhelming. Since his planned trunks didn’t fit, Punk wore plain black trunks he brought as a spare. In a video on social media, Drew McIntyre mocked the Best in the World for this awkward wardrobe malfunction.

“He seems to have forgotten his gear, he was wrestling in under tights, so looked pretty stupid.”

Dijak Takes Credit

This week’s WWE NXT saw the gold brand continue to build towards the upcoming New Year’s Evil show. The show pulled in an impressive 670,000 viewers, which is respectable considering it happened on Boxing Day when viewerships across TV take a dive. On Twitter, Dijak, who competed in the main event against Eddy Thorpe, was pleased to take credit for the impressive number.

Changes to NXT Broadcasting

Next year, WWE NXT will begin airing on the CW Network and leave its current home on the USA Network. This week, it was announced that the gold brand has been axed from TNT Sports, which is how it is broadcasted in the UK. The show began airing on Sky Sports and later BT Sports (now TNT Sports) in January 2020.

The Undertaker’s Mount Rushmore

The Undertaker is on many people’s Mt. Rushmore of wrestlers, but who is on the Phenom’s rankings of the greatest stars of all time? On his Six Feet Under podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer named Arn Anderson, The Rock, Ric Flair, and Dusty Rhodes as his Mt. Rushmore.

Mansoor Had Massive Backstage Heat After Mixed Signals About Wrestling Etiquette

0

Mansoor experienced significant heat backstage following an event in Saudi Arabia, the former WWE Superstar has revealed.

Mansoor was among many Superstars released from WWE in September, alongside his tag-team partner Mace, Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Matt Riddle, and others. His release marked the end of Mansoor’s five-year tenure with the promotion. Mansoor joined WWE after being scouted during a 2018 tryout ahead of that year’s Greatest Royal Rumble event.

Mansoor’s Backstage Heat

After being signed by WWE, Mansoor would work a handful of NXT live events to hone his skills and adapt to WWE’s style. Speaking to Instinct Culture, Mansoor recalled committing to a tradition in wrestling in which you shake hands with all those you meet.

“I show up at my first NXT show, and I’m shaking everybody’s hands. And who of all people, Mace, pulls me aside and says, ‘We don’t do that here, okay. That’s an indie thing, all right. You don’t have to do that.”

With this in mind, Mansoor decided against shaking hands when he traveled back to Saudi Arabia for 2019’s Super ShowDown event, though this would be the wrong call.

“I end up going to the Saudi show being like, ‘I’m not gonna bother anybody. I’m not gonna shake anybody’s hand. Huge mistake. Huge mistake. Who pulls me aside but my future wrestling dad, Mustafa Ali. He said, ‘Hey brother, I’m looking out for you because you and me, you know, we’re brothers. You got major heat. You got major heat because not only did you not say hi to everybody, you’re winning the damn Battle Royal that everybody got dragged over here for. And you’re not being gracious about it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I was freaking out.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God!’”

Mansoor’s victory in the 51-man battle royal would mark his biggest victory in WWE. With his non-compete clause over, Mansoor has already been making appearances at independent events. Mansoor and Mace will be part of Effy’s Big Gay Brunch event in January

Latest on Warner Discovery’s meetings with AEW and WWE

0

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque met with executives at Warner Discovery last week to pitch Raw coming to one of its networks after its deal with USA ends in 2024. The meeting was likely attended by David Zazlav, the CEO of WBD

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reported the initial meeting between the two companies in October.

Tony Khan met with WBD a day later, he described the the conversations as “really good” during the press conference following the Ring of Honor Final Battle on Friday.

WWE’s initial meeting with WBD didn’t go well. Nick Khan and Levesque worked to get a second meeting in place, and put together a better presentation. TKO is stock closed below $76 on Friday. With the Smackdown deal coming in lower than expected, WWE management is under the gun to secure a better deal or Raw – that means having more bidders in the marketplace.

The TV market is more chaotic than 2018, when WWE last negotiated new rights fees. TV viewership was declining, but not like it has over the last several years. This was visible in the Smackdown deal with USA, and how the network seems willing to part ways with Raw, a 30-year anchor on prime time Mondays since the early 1990s, outside three years it aired on TNN/Spike TV.

Rights fees have accelerated the ability of studios to pay them. This problem is largely due to market forces, and mistakes made by cable companies, studios and media conglomerates over the last decade as they dealt with mobile phones and the growing impact of internet. Regardless, the rights fees WWE commanded six years ago will be hard for it to get today.

To get close, they need bidders and having WBD as another interested party gets more networks into the competition.

Whether WWE lands on WBD, it’s highly unlikely. The market is much tighter, but WBD is putting a lot of its consideration into retaining the NBA. Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics told SEScoops in October the NBA’s TV deal would be ending after the current deals for WWE and AEW.

WBD’s plans with the NBA would likely affect a potential deal with WWE more than AEW, because of the different money the two companies demand. While AEW should have a much larger deal this time around, it will still be well short of the deals commanded by Smackdown and Raw. That’s not considering the pressure on WWE to make bank with TKO stock well below its $100 target price.

AEW also has other options. Before the company was officially formed, Tony Khan and Chris Harrington had met with Turner executives and pitched the company. Showtime was also another big player for AEW. This was before the company had a track record of profitability and good ratings over a four-year period.

AEW would likely compete with some of the other companies that have interest for WWE. Tony Khan has all but confirmed that WBD owns a portion of AEW – that would change if AEW left the network – but given the company’s performance on PPV, it’s growing cash at gates and the success of All In Wembley, the company will land somewhere strong.

Thurston reported on his Wrestlenomics Patreon site this week that he believes AEW lost around $34 million this year – which considering the $1 billion valuation Forbes gave the company a few months ago- is remarkable given the pandemic and that this is a company only four years old – have of that time dealing with COVID-19.

Sources with AEW have said for months, while Tony Khan keeps the company’s financials quiet, they believe the company could easily make profitability with some cuts and would likely hit the mark with its next TV deal.

Tony Khan teasing signings to the AEW women’s division

0

Tony Khan is excited for what’s to come for the AEW women’s division and indicates that there may be some new names in the mix.

Ahead of AEW World’s End, Khan spoke with the media about how big a of transitional period this time is for the company. Khan spoke about the company overall both from a creative and presentation standpoint with a particular focus on the women’s division.

Khan mentioned several names on the roster as to what women have helped contribute to the growth of the company this year, including Julia Hart, Riho, Toni Storm, Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale and of course, Timeless Toni Storm.

There’s been a deliberate effort to refocus attention on the women’s division and AEW fans should get ready for some more new faces showing up in the months ahead.

“So, so many great names, so many great fights happening in the women’s division, which is in, I think, the strongest place it’s been – and imagine how much better it’s going to get because I plan to be very active in free agency.”

As far as women’s free agency is concerned, Mercedes Mone remains a massive chess piece on the board and she certainly has formed a relationship with Khan since walking out on WWE in May of 2022.

Aside from the former Sasha Banks, other potential additions to the AEW Women’s division could include Giulia, Deonna Purrazzo, Mandy Rose, Lacey Evans and Kamille, just to name a few.

Khan added that several of AEW’s top female competitors have been out of action and have recently returned or will be returning soon. Thunder Rosa, Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker are all former Women’s World Champions who were out of action for extended time. As the year winds down and we look ahead to 2024, there is a sense of optimism surrounding the division’s future.

0

CM Punk is riding high with his return to WWE and it’s now going to translate over into a popular sports clothing line.

Today on his Instagram, CM Punk announced that he will have an upcoming featured clothing collection on Roots Of Fight. Punk evidently be collaborating with the band Rancid on the collection, as he’s formed a friendship with Lars Fredrickson.

“Following in the footsteps of the greats. I’ve been excited to share this with you all,” Punk shared in his post. He also tagged several other legends who are associated with the Roots Of Fight brand, including Bret Hart, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper and Rey Mysterio.

CM Punk and Roots of Fight

If you’ve been following CM Punk on television and on social media, you’ll notice that he’s been sporting a great deal of the brand’s merchandise. Any of the Bret Hart styles you’ve seen him wearing is all under Roots Of Fight. As a matter of fact, just as he was getting ready to compete against Dominik Mysterio at Madison Square Garden he was wearing a Roddy Piper tee from Roots Of Fight.

The merchandise brand isn’t just isolated to pro wrestling. Roots Of Fight specifically featured legendary names in boxing, including Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson and Rocky Marciano. They also showcase baseball legends including Roberto Clemente, Babe Ruth and Ken Griffey Jr.

As far as other wrestling legends featured, Roots Of Fight showcases Ric Flair, The Iron Shiek and Andre The Giant.

Punk’s line is set to release on January 15, 2024 and it should be a huge seller considering the type of numbers he has done for WWE.

Changes Coming To AEW: Tony Khan Discusses More Sportslike Presentation

0

Tony Khan believes that the Continental Classic has been a successful experiment and wants to implement that feel for AEW moving forward.

During the AEW World’s End media call, Khan said some of that success has translated over to AEW Collision with their ratings increase. Khan said he feels very strongly about how well the Continental Classic has done for the company and it’s had an influence on his creative philosophy.

“Will this affect the presentation and will I book the show’s more sports-based presentation and accept the fan feedback which is very tangible and real? Yes, absolutely and that is why this has been such a great experiment and the results are there, they are tangible.

“As I’ve said, an experimental group and a control group, the experiment increasing the allocation of real quality pro wrestling.”

In the early days of AEW, part of the initial strategy was to incorporate a sports-based presentation, including a rankings system, but the company has veered away from it. However, Khan had really utilized tournaments in 2023 and although that is certainly sports-oriented, he says that the storytelling process has been rich with MJF, The Devil and the women’s division.

“I’ve been really trying to put an emphasis on more stories and as because everybody’s been stepping up and it’s time and we have a great group that I’ve been trying to build and, and a lot of injuries, you know, it’s really challenging for wrestling promotion.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s First Ride After Prison Was In Vehicle With ‘HITMAN’ License Plate

After being granted parole earlier this year, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri around 3:30 a.m. local time on Thursday. She had served seven years in prison for her role in the killing of her mother. Upon her release, Gypsy Rose was picked up by her husband, and the car he was driving featured a wrestling-themed Bret Hart license plate with the inscription “HITMAN.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is Free

The case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard gained widespread attention due to the complex and unusual circumstances surrounding her mother’s murder. It spawned several documentaries and an adaptation of her life story as a Hulu miniseries called “The Act.”

As Gypsy Rose Blanchard begins a new chapter outside of prison, she did so with a ride that proudly proclaimed WWE fandom.

People reports that, following her early release from prison on December 28th, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was picked up by her new husband. The car he was driving featured a wrestling-themed Bret Hart license plate with the inscription “HITMAN.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard release marks a significant point in a case that has sparked discussions about mental health, abuse, and the legal system’s handling of complex situations. She has a lot of eyes on her, straining to see what she does next. Naturally, her first interview could also nab her a nice stack of cash. Perhaps, she will become a WWE fan during her second chance at life.

Who is Gypsy Rose Blanchard?

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is known for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in 2015. The case gained media attention due to the deceptive health claims made by Dee Dee, leading to unnecessary medical treatments for Gypsy Rose.

In collaboration with her boyfriend at the time, Nicholas Godejohn, Gypsy Rose conspired to murder her mother. The media ate up the case, focusing on Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s high-pitched voice and cheerful demeanor, while shedding light on issues related to Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental health disorder involving the fabrication or induction of illness for attention.

Nicholas Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard.
