Could a rivalry be reignited for Carmelo Hayes? The former NXT Champion is preparing himself for tough competition as he is the lone NXT member competing in the upcoming US Title contender’s tournament on SmackDown. He’s no stranger to his first round opponent either as he’s going one-on-one with Grayson Waller.
In light of that clash occurring, Waller decided to confront Carmelo during a photo shoot. Just this week on WWE NXT, Hayes accused the current NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov of attacking him at the beginning of this week’s episode and also believes that it was Dragunov who attacked Trick Williams backstage months ago. The latter two are set to face one another at NXT New Year’s Evil, but it was Waller who decided to throw some salt into fresh wounds.
Waller decided to push some buttons, putting the blame on Hayes for Williams getting attacked and Carmelo took exception to Waller walking in during his shoot.
Waller challenged Hayes for the NXT Championship earlier this year at Spring Breakin’, but the Aussie lost in his efforts. Since then, Waller was drafted to the SmackDown roster, but spent a good deal of time on the shelf due to injury.
However, Waller has still made the most of his call-up, having a memorable confrontation with John Cena this past July at WWE Money In The Bank.
IMPACT Wrestling has officially announced a new big signing in KUSHIDA as they build toward their TNA rebrand in 2024.
KUSHIDA has been working sporadically with IMPACT since 2022 but on December 13, the promotion announced that he’s signed with the company. No details or press release have been sent out , but IMPACT did send out their own style of graphic, akin to what AEW does when they announce a signing.
KUSHIDA appeared on the Battleground Podcast and discussed his decision to make TNA his new home.
Kushida on signing with TNA:
“One of the reasons I chose TNA is because of my good friends Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin. These two influenced my life. [We’re] all signed to same company—I can’t believe it. I’m so excited for next year.”
KUSHIDA really made a name for himself wrestling in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, teaming with current IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley as members of the Time Splitters. Over the course of three years from 2012 to 2015, the duo became two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions.
Shelley even had his second “cup of coffee” in WWE as the Time Splitters competed in the NXT 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The duo competed and lost in the first round to the Grizzled Young Veterans.
KUSHIDA’s time with WWE NXT was also about three years, making the most of his time with the black and gold brand. While there, he became the Cruiserweight Champion and ended up not re-signing with the company when his contract expired in 2022.
This led to him returning to NJPW and also in IMPACT. As expected, he re-aligned with Alex Shelley as the two and Chris Sabin formed a faction appropriately named Time Machine.
KUSHIDA did stop by All Elite Wrestling back at the beginning of 2023, competing against Darby Allin for the TNT Championship in a losing effort.
WWE saw the return of CM Punk after so many were so certain that it wouldn’t happen. The Second City Savior jumped right into the new WWE culture, and it seems that he might dig the Performance Center setup in Orlando.
WWE boasts an Orlando facility for training Superstars, and it is full of talent trying to hone their skills. You never know who will stop by that facility, as The Undertaker, and others, have paid the building a visit in the past.
After being part of the NXT tapings last night, and NXT Deadline on Saturday, CM Punk stuck around in Orlando. Today, he revisited the Performance Center, engaging in training and discussions with talent.
PW Insider reported that CM Punk was around on December 13th at the WWE Performance Center, and he was speaking with talent. It seems that he may have had quite a gathering around him, with so many people wanting to hear what he had to say.
CM Punk is back at the WWE Performance Center today, training and holding court with NXT talents,
A lot of talent were reportedly excited about CM Punk being around the Performance Center today. Now, it seems that CM Punk may become a familiar face around WWE’s extravagant Orlando training facility.
While he was backstage at NXT, CM Punk did not make an appearance on the show. As NXT tapes next week’s show at the Performance Center tonight, the possibility is still out there.
CM Punk’s WWE return has been one surprise after another. Keep checking back with SE Scoops for more on whatever he has planned next.
Mick Foley gave his all for fans’ entertainment, losing teeth and an ear in the process. Right now, he is doing his best post-WWE, but the gleam of hope that he will return still lingers in the air.
WWE’s yearly Royal Rumble event stands out as one that usually includes excitement and numerous surprises. Despite WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley surprising fans with some post-retirement appearances, it seems Foley won’t feature in the 2024 Royal Rumble PPV.
During WWE The Bump on December 12th, 2023, Mick Foley was asked about the possibility that he might grace Tropicana Field for the 2024 Royal Rumble event. Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy was quick to shut down any hope that fans will see him mix it up on January 27th.
“On Royal Rumble, people get together and celebrate. It really makes people happy. So I’ll be tuned in, and maybe I’ll be…no, here’s the thing; I would have to lose 70 pounds just to be in terrible shape, so I am not going to be there.”
Mick Foley’s Royal Rumble History
Mick Foley’s last official WWE match was in 2012 as part of the 30-Man Royal Rumble match, which Sheamus won. So, he’s obviously not foreign to the idea of a Royal Rumble surprise. Still, Foley will sit this one out.
Mick Foley made history in 1998 by enteringthe Royal Rumble as three different characters. Those days are in the past, but he certainly appreciates the fact that fans would love to see him wrestle again.
We will have to see when Mick Foley shows up on WWE television again. You can never say never, but it appears that he is satisfied with how things have turned out for him at this point. You can check out The Bump below.
Prior to joining All Elite Wrestling in 2022, Ring of Honor Women’s World champion Athena spent six years with WWE. As Ember Moon, she held the NXT Women title as well as the brand’s tag titles, alongside Shotzi Blackheart.
Despite her WWE run coming to an end in late-2021, Athena maintains an overall positive outlook on her experience there, particularly with the atmosphere in NXT.
Athena spoke with Phil Strum for Under The Ring and explained how working for WWE helped her develop as a performer.
Athena Says NXT was like going to Pro Wrestling University
Athena individually thanked several of the coaches she worked with in NXT, including Sara Amato, Robbie Brookside, Norman Smiiley, Matt Bloom, Fitt Finaly, Shawn Michaels, as well as Triple H.
“I learned a lot about myself,” she began. “I learned a lot about what I wanted, and where I wanted to be in my career. I think the most awesome part about being an NXT was working with [Triple H] or with working with all the amazing coaches like Sara Amato, Robbie Brookside, who I love to death. I cannot say enough great things about Robbie Brookside. [He] brought out that aggression within the Ember Moon character. Norman Smiley, Matt Bloom, Fit Finlay — there were just so much knowledge in one place in. Shawn Michaels too, Scotty 2 Hotty was there.
“There was just so much knowledge wrapped up in one place, that it was like a college for wrestling. I don’t know if that’s an accurate term, it was like Pro Wrestling University. It was really cool to jus be able to go there and just learn so much.”
Athena says she still speaks to many of her NXT coaches to this day. She asks them if they watch her matches in ROH and tries to pick up any pointers that she can.
“It’s just really cool to have that support still, even though I’m not there. I just learned a lot about myself and what I wanted out of my career there. I learned how to work for television, how to work for myself. It made me more motivated ever than before, just to be good at what I do. And I think that’s the beauty of that place.”

WWE legend John Cena feels fortunate to have bagged the cameo role in one of the most-talked movies of 2023, ‘Barbie.’
‘The Leader of Cenation’ has managed to establish himself in Hollywood as a mainstay of several franchises. Cena decided to pursue acting full-time toward the end of the 2010s, and since then, he has starred in numerous multi-billion dollar franchises, including Transformers, the DC Extended Universe, Fast & Furious, and more.
Cena looks far from slowing down and he will shortly be adding Coyote vs. Acme and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to his expanding resume. Before the release of either of those installments, Cena appeared in Barbie as Merman Ken.
The movie starred Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Other actors who starred were Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, and many more. Gerwig directed Barbie and the screenplay was by Gerwig & Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach. The popular movie is based on Barbie by Mattel. The movie hit the theatres earlier this summer on Friday, July 21.
The 16-time World Champion recently hit the red carpet to support his good friend Zac Efron at the L.A. premiere of the latter’s new wrestling movie “The Iron Claw,” which tells the true story of the famous Von Erich brothers.
Cena spoke to Terri Seymour of Extra about his cameo in Barbie and stated that he was “lucky” to get the opportunity. He further joked that all he had to do was “put on a fishtail and a blonde wig.”
“That one man, that’s a four leaf clover for me. I was really lucky. I’m very grateful for all the opportunities that come our way. But I was especially lucky for that.”
He added:
“Didn’t have to do much. Just put on a fish tail and a blonde wig and let all the talented folks do the rest. It’s great to see, not only the film be so successful amongst the consumers out there, but certainly with the critics as well.
Fans were recently buzzing when Cena came across AEW World Champion MJF at ‘The Iron Claw’ Premiere. He also met several other fellow WWE stars. Find out who else made their presence felt at the premiere in the article below:

WWE is a well-oiled machine, and there is a method to whatever they’re doing backstage. A recent report has also sparked a new discussion about segments that lack a producer on the rundown sheet.
Why Some WWE Segments Don’t Have Producers
Yesterday, I exclusively reported the reason why WWE doesn’t list producers on certain segments. There is a very good reason why producers aren’t assigned to segments, but that doesn’t mean there is no script in play.
As I reported yesterday, I was told by sources within WWE that producers will sit on a headset backstage and call the segment, making sure that they accomplish their goal. When a promo is listed with no producer, that only means that there is no physicality needed for the segment.
Whether the physicality is moving from one point to another to hit a mark, or actually taking a bump, they need a producer for those segments. WWE doesn’t assign a producer for segments where there are no specific physical points to hit.
Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz fired off on X, replying to another story about CM Punk and Seth Rollins’ 12/11 RAW segment not having a producer. In the midst of this post, Gewirtz confirmed my previous exclusive report.
This is so stupid. When there’s no physicality, there’s no producer assigned to segment. Been that way forever. Doesn’t mean there’s not a writer working with talent. The bigger question: why is anyone within the company sharing scripts/rundowns with anyone outside the company?
CM Punk and Seth Rollins did not need a producer for their segment on the December 11th episode of WWE RAW. Their rivalry is still heating up in WWE, so odds are they will get physical eventually, so producers will be needed down the line.
WWE has a lot of reasons why they coordinate things the way they do backstage. Producers are great additions to the team, but they are not needed in every single situation.
This is so stupid. When there’s no physicality, there’s no producer assigned to segment. Been that way forever. Doesn’t mean there’s not a writer working with talent. The bigger question: why is anyone within the company sharing scripts/rundowns with anyone outside the company? https://t.co/tuhqVChre7
Alexa Bliss and Ryan Cabrera’s relationship captured the attention of pro wrestling fans, and those people who have also followed Cabrera’s career for years. The two met, thanks to Cabrera’s friendship with The Miz, and they have been inseparable ever since. Now, after celebrating the birth of their daughter Hendrix Rogue, the happy new parents are getting out in public.
Footage circulating online shows Alexa Bliss and Ryan Cabrera at a basketball game, marking Bliss’s first public appearance since giving birth to her daughter. She appeared to be enjoying herself at the game.
The couple were all smiles, and seemingly happy to be out of the house. It doesn’t appear that they had their little one with them, so this may have been their first outing without little Hendrix.
The two were spotted at the Orlando Magic vs Cleveland Cavaliers game. The two were even featured on the kiss cam, and they indulged the crowd with a kiss for good measure.
We will have to see when Alexa Bliss is able to make a return to WWE. At this point, she is obviously enjoying her life, but she is still under contract with WWE. That contract was also likely frozen due to her maternity leave.

AEW veteran star Chris Jericho will be reprising his role in the upcoming Terrifier 3. He had a cameo in Terrifier 2, and it has been confirmed that he is set to return in the sequel of the movie.
AEW star Chris Jericho was briefly featured in Terrifier 2 credits scene, which set up the next installment in the series and it revolves around the main character, Art the Clown. On October 25, 2024, Terrifier 3 will drop in the theaters, and fans are already excited about it.
Andreas Wiseman of Deadline recently had a conversation with director Damien Leone and star Lauren LaVera while they promoted the film. When asked about stars who are returning for the third movie, Leon noted that Chris Jericho will be featured in it. Here are the comments:
“There are a few new major chaaracters introduced in three, one in particular that it’s too soon for me to announce…What I think I can say at this stage is that Chris Jericho [who has a cameo role as a psychiatric hospital attendant in a credits scene] is going to be returning. He’s super excited. This one is going to pick up where Part 2 left off, in the insane asylum, so, you’re going to see what transpires there, what mayhem unfolds, because seeing how Art and Victoria ended up, is so insane, and seeing how they get out of that situation and what happens next is going to be really wild. So, we have to get Chris back in there and see how he becomes a part of that situation.”
Chris Jericho confirms
The former AEW World Champion took to his Twitter account and confirmed his role in the upcoming movie. Here is the Tweet:
Dave Bautista’s career in Hollywood is still going strong, and now fans have a new look at one of his upcoming films. “Dune: Part Two” is set to make a lot of noise in the box office, but many pro wrestling fans will buy their tickets just to see The Animal.
A new trailer for the film “Dune: Part Two” has been released, featuring former WWE Champion Batista. The former Evolution member portrays Glossu Rabban, the nephew of Baron Harkonnen, in this thriller sequel based on the classic 1965 novel by Frank Herbert.
About Dune: Part Two
The film was written by Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts and produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Patrick McCormick, Denis Villeneuve, and Tanya Lapointe.
The first movie achieved a box office revenue of $402 million.
Returning to their roles from the first movie are Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgård, and Jason Momoa. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux have joined the cast for the second film.
Directed by Villeneuve, the film’s synopsis explains that this film is about seeking revenge. The plot will be much more complicated than that, as the fate of the universe is at stake.
“Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
Batista’s film career has been an impressive one since leaving WWE. He still has not picked up a Hall of Fame ring, as his induction was shut down by the pandemic, but you have to know that honor will come eventually for him.
You may check out the trailer for “Dune: Part Two” below. We will have more updates at SE Scoops as they are made available.

?MLW returns to Chicago May 11, tickets on sale Friday
Major League Wrestling is returning to #Chicago for the first time since 2019 on Saturday, May 11 for AZTECA LUCHA, live on @FITETV+ from Cicero Stadium.
Last year in January, MLW initiated a lawsuit against WWE, and alleged anticompetitive practices and interference in MLW’s business operations.
It came to light that the lawsuit claimed that WWE, under Vince McMahon’s leadership, used its influence to refrain MLW from securing a television deal with a major network.
This hindered their growth and violated antitrust laws. Recently, it has been revealed that MLW and WWE have reached a settlement. This marks the end of their legal dispute. You can read about the matter in details below:
Logan Paul knows how to draw attention to himself, and that hasn’t changed over the years. The Maverick is also involved in more than WWE, but one recent non-pro wrestling related event still got physical.
In addition to his wrestling endeavors, Logan Paul is a business partner with KSI, and together they co-founded the PRIME energy drink. They organize promotional events on a regular basis to boost the drink’s visibility and brand awareness. A recent event occurred in Mexico City, Mexico, and that is where our story takes place today.
What happened with Logan Paul at the Prime Event
At the promotional event in Mexiso, KSI executed an Attitude Adjustment on Logan Paul, sending him through a table. This went down amidst loud cheers from the fans. After that went down, PRIME’s latest signee, Samy Rivera, who is a popular Twitch streamer, pinned Logan Paul.
Logan Paul did not have his United States Title on the line at that event, because it wasn’t a WWE function. Still, it’s notable that the champion took this pinfall.
What’s next for Logan Paul in WWE
Logan Paul has already been confirmed for a major Premium Live Event next year. Before that, he will defend his United States Championship against the winner of the United States Title tournament, leaving uncertainty regarding his upcoming title defense opponent.
We will have to see who gets their hands on Logan Paul next in WWE, but there are certainly a lot of fans who can’t wait to see what he does next. You can check out the clip from that Prime event below.
WWE’s NXT brand is a place where Superstars of tomorrow and do their thing and introduce themselves to the world. Now, one faction from WWE’s third brand has a brand-new name.
During the December 12th edition of NXT, there were notable moments and in-ring action. Fans saw the build for New Year’s Evil begin, and the closing segment was filled with tension as Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams continued their story. Another segment saw a stable solidify their status in the company.
The new NXT Stable name
After a year together on NXT television, the group consisting of Drew Gulak, Charlie Dempsey, Myles Borne, and Damon Kemp finally has a name. This information occurred during the match previews for the next week’s show.
They are now known as ‘The No Quarter Catch Crew.’ Next week on NXT, Dragon Lee will defend the NXT North American Title against once member of the stable.
That stable’s story started with Drew Gulak’s arrival in NXT in early 2023, initially forming a tag team with Charlie Dempsey. Over time, the faction expanded its roster to include Damon Kemp and eventually Myles Borne.
Now, Dragon Lee is set to defend his North American Championship against a member of The No Quarter Catch Crew next week, though the challenger was not announced. It will be interesting to see how WWE books this situation in the weeks to come, but at least that stable has a name now.
We will keep our eye on this story to see if there are more developments here at SE Scoops. WWE has a lot going on, and the NXT brand’s momentum will carry into the new year with a new stable in their ranks.
Tonight’s AEW Dynamite will see the show continue to build towards Worlds End, which is set to take place on December 30. Fans will get slightly more AEW action tonight than they previously expected. On Twitter, Tony Khan announced that TBS has granted an overrun of five minutes for tonight’s show.

MJF and Adam Cole captured the ROH World Tag Team Championships at All In but have only defended the titles one time together. That’s because of an injury suffered by Cole that he is still dealing with. Speaking on a media call to promote Friday night’s ROH Final Battle 2023 pay-per-view event, Tony Khan said he’s considered vacating the gold.
“That’s definitely something to look at at some point [vacating the titles]. It’s something MJF said was important to him and Cole, was to try and maintain the belts to when Cole gets back. Obviously, it’s been a long road to recovery from a bad injury, but we’re all excited about having Adam Cole back.”
Matt Hardy’s Frustrations
Matt Hardy recently stirred up some controversy when speaking about his AEW direction. On his Extreme Life podcast, Hardy spoke about being frustrated in the promotion while Jeff said he sometimes feels like a ghost. On the latest edition of his show, Hardy gave further context and stated that his comments are “1000%” true to how he is feeling.
Dave Batista may have yet to become a WWE Hall of Famer, but the Animal continues to make an impact in Hollywood. In the latest trailer for Dune: Part Two, Batista can be seen reprising his role as Glossu Rabban. Dune: Part Two, the sequel to the 2021 sci-fi epic, will be released in cinemas on March 1.
John Cena Proud of Zac Efron
This week saw the premiere of The Iron Claw, the new biopic about the lives, careers, and tragedies of the Von Erich family. John Cena was at the premiere and was spotted with AEW World Champion MJF. Taking to Twitter, Cena said he was proud of film lead Zac Efron for his role as Kevin Von Erich. The Iron Claw will be released on December 22.
Incredibly proud of @ZacEfron for an outstanding performance in @A24’s #TheIronClaw. Thank you for doing the work to help introduce a new audience to one of our industry’s most important families.
In the main event of this week’s Raw, Shinsuke Nakamura faced Cody Rhodes. Rhodes won by DQ after Nakamura sprayed the American Nightmare with the Asian Mist. Nakamura would also attack Rhodes after the match. On Twitter, Brandi Rhodes had some choice words for the King of Strong Style.
‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio has impressed plenty of people since joining The Judgment Day at Clash at the Castle last year. Speaking on the Insight podcast, Chavo Guerrero shared his take on the self-professed ex-con.
“Dominik Mysterio is killing it. He’s doing so good. He’s far beyond where he should be. As far as being good as well. It’s pretty cool to see them doing all this stuff.”
Speaking on Wrestling with Rip Rogers, Steel recalled meeting Punk and how their friendship began.
“The long and short is they were backyarders running a promotion in Chicago and he inevitably ended up being a promoter because he was the most responsible of everybody. So his name was on the promoter license for Chicago, Illinois and they would run Outlaw shows if you want to call it that. They were drawing 800 people or so and we’re on the other side of town the legit wrestlers drawing f***ing 200. The real trained wrestlers were like ‘Oh those guys are garbage and they’re backyarders. They’re only filling the crowd with their family’. I’m like ‘800 family is coming to watch this? No, people are enjoying themselves.’
“He came to us to get trained. He walked and said ‘I need to actually [learn]. I really want to do this’. And so we became fast friends we are uh you know I I I enjoy the vices of the world and he has never enjoyed the vices of the world you know uh but we were always fast friends.”
Ace Steel on CM Punk’s Success
From these humble starts, CM Punk has gone on to become one of the most internationally recognized wrestlers in a generation. When asked if he ever saw this level of success for Punk, Steel admitted that he couldn’t have predicted how far his friend would go.
“No [I didn’t see him becoming as big a star as he has.] I don’t think you can because, especially at our level and to think about it back then like I just made the statement that I never thought I’d be in the WWF because I wasn’t big enough. Because it was the land of giants. And he didn’t– his body was pear-shaped at that point but to see him transform and the hard work he went through to transform his body. I remember a day the ring was down, we’re like All right we’re going to take everybody to the gym and show you guys how to work out. Obviously, some of you don’t use weights but he was all about it. ‘Let’s f***ing go!'”
While Steel didn’t predict the success Punk has seen, he acknowledged that the former WWE & AEW World Champion has always been able to make a connection with fans.
“His connection with the crowd though, undeniable. [He’s] always had that, even when he was doing the backyard stuff. That was the thing, he just had that in his head. He knew how to work the people.”
CM Punk will have his first WWE match in close to a decade next week. Click here to find out more.

On this week’s Raw, Punk and Rollins finally came face-to-face. Rollins warned Punk not to call WWE his home after spending 10 years trying to tear it down. Rollins also vowed to expose Punk as a fraud.
The segment between Punk and Rollins was by far the most-watched quarter-hour of this week’s episode of Raw, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reports. While Raw averaged 1.47 million viewers, the segment had 1.88 million viewers. Similarly, the segment did a 0.62 in the coveted 18-49 demographic, much higher than the show’s average of 0.46.
Fans will soon get to see plenty of the highs and lows of the career of Hulk Hogan in a new series coming to VICE TV.
Hogan’s incredible and controversial career will be featured in the new VICE TV series Nine Lives Of… As the title suggests, the show goes into the controversies of celebrities and how they have been given multiple second chances. The episode about the two-time WWE Hall of Famer will premiere on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10 PM.
Hogan won’t be the only massive name examined as part of Nine Lives Of… WWE celebrity Hall of Famer Arnold Schwarzenegger and the late Paul ‘Pee Wee Herman’ Ruebens will also be featured. Both made numerous appearances for WWE. Dave Chapelle, Howard Stern, Tiger Woods, and the animated series South Park are among those that will be covered.
Hulk Hogan: Controversy
While Hulk Hogan is unquestionably one of the most significant names in professional wrestling, his legacy has been mired in controversy. The Hulkster has often faced accusations of politicking in wrestling to ensure he had the best spot, often at the expense of other wrestlers.
In 2015, a rant made by Hogan during a 2007 leaked sex tape went viral in which Hogan expressed his disapproval of his daughter dating a black man. In the leaked clip, Hogan uses the n-word and admits to being “a racist, to a point.” Hogan was quickly fired from WWE and removed from the Hall of Fame, with a statement from the company stating they are “committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds.” Hogan’s lawyer would claim that he had chosen to resign from the company.
Hogan would apologize multiple times over the years and would see some support from black athletes including The Rock, Booker T, Mark Henry, and Big E. In July 2018, Hogan was reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame and has made appearances for WWE ever since.
Former WWE Superstar Nic Nemeth may be All-Elite soon enough if those working within AEW have their way.
Nemeth was released from WWE in September of this year, ending his nearly two-decade career with the Sports Entertainment juggernaut. Nemeth is best known for his time as Dolph Ziggler and is a two-time former World Heavyweight Champion and one-time WWE NXT Champion. The Show-Off was arguably the biggest name cut from WWE during the September releases.
Nic Nemeth is All-Elite?
Next week, Nemeth’s 90-day non-compete clause will expire and he will be free to work and sign with any promotion that wants him. Sources in AEW who spoke to WrestlePurists have stated that there is a push within the promotion for Nemeth to be signed when the time is right. There have already been multiple creative pitches being drawn up for Nemeth. One idea would see the Show-Off paired with fellow WWE alum CJ Perry. Perry and Nemeth had an on-screen romance in 2015 during which Nemeth would feud with Perry’s real-life husband Rusev (now AEW’s Miro.)
Dominik Mysterio is a heat magnet in WWE and one current AEW star thinks he knows exactly why.
On Monday’s episode of “Busted Open Radio,” Mark Henry gave his veteran insight as to what makes Dirty Dom so darn good at getting a reaction from fans.
“I put him in the same category as The Rock and the Harts and people that come from pro wrestling,” Henry said. “They have [a] legacy — Randy Orton. There are things that Dominik does that are just intuitive. You can tell he just picked it up. It’s not trained.”
Henry makes note that it’s just like Dom is playing with his wrestling toys as a kid and learning what makes a great heel due to his dad being such a great babyface.
“He knows what he’s doing. And all those years of watching his dad,” he continued, “and all those years of knowing what the bad guy did, knowing all of those things of what his dad had to fight through to get to be who he was. I think it’s paying dividends for him.”
Rey certainly had his share of heelish adversaries, perhaps most notably, Eddie Guerrero, who Dominik was the primary aspect of a storyline between his dad and his late Uncle Eddie.
CM Punk’s return to WWE not only was a big-time moment for pro wrestling fans, but the business side of things too.
Since he ended his near 10-year hiatus from WWE, Punk has been a presence on every WWE program since with the exception of the December 4 Raw. He likely won’t be missing many more Monday nights as he officially signed on with the red brand to be a member of their roster.
During his promo on Raw, Punk cited the serendipity of being in Cleveland, OH, the very city where he left WWE back in 2014 at the Royal Rumble. However, CM Punk signing on with Raw has likely a little more business behind it than just coincidence.
“Things Are Changing Greatly”
Back in September, WWE and NBC Universal announced a 5-year media rights partnership that will bring SmackDown back to the USA Network in October 2024. WWE is currently shopping around the rights to carry WWE Raw and they’re expected to land another blockbuster deal.
We saw All Elite Wrestling launch an entire series around Punk back in June, AEW Collision. A lot has transpired since then, but Punk is once again a driving force in his home promotion scoring big money TV deals.
On Tuesday, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted on social media that “things are changing greatly” with WWE’s media rights negotiations. Punk is proving once again that he can drive business like very few can.
“Things are changing greatly. Let’s just say things changed greatly with Raw negotiations from a few weeks ago. And Punk is a huge part of the selling point.”
Things are changing greatly. Let's just say things changed greatly with Raw negotiations from a few weeks ago. And Punk is a huge part of the selling point.
Punk has undoubtedly brought in the eyes and the bucks for WWE since his surprise comeback. After Survivor Series Punk’s first appearance back on Raw boosted viewership by nearly 30%. Additionally, the post on X announcing his return broke a social media record for WWE and perhaps most notably Punk has became an immediate merchandise mover.
The very night of Survivor Series, CM Punk’s new WWE merchandise sales found itself up into the six-figure tier.
CM Punk’s WWE return match has been announced. The Straight Edge Superstar will face Dominik Mystery on the upcoming holiday live events tour.
One of the most buzzed-about films this holiday season is A24’s The Iron Claw. Yes, it centers on pro wrestling but the story transcends the ring. The movie follows the life of Kevin Von Erich and the Von Erich family, which was snake-bitten by a string of unspeakable tragedies.
From the outside looking in, they were Texas royalty during the peak of patriarch Fritz’s World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) based in Dallas. Given the project was written and directed by Sean Durkin, who happens to be a big fan, you know a lot of time and care went into making sure the presentation was as authentic as possible.
This was not only a unified goal by the star-studded cast including Zac Efron (Kevin Von Erich), Jeremy Allen White (Kerry Von Erich), Harris Dickinson (David Von Erich), Lily James (Pam Adkisson), and others. It trickled down to the unsung heroes working on set behind the scenes as well.

The Iron Claw: The Interview
Jennifer Starzyk (Costume Designer), Elle Favorule (Makeup Department Head), and Natalie Shea Rose (Hair Department Head) got together to discuss their process. Favorule in particular was no stranger to pro wrestling, working on Lucha Underground.
“That show beautifully combined live wrestling matches with a scripted vignette series,” she said. “Being a part of that was so exciting. I was immediately sucked in. I knew nothing about wrestling or the amazing characters that were coming in. The athleticism that these people brought each day and doing multiple matches a day. I was like, ‘You guys got me hooked.’ The fans surround the entire world with luchadors from Mexico and worldwide stars from WWE and other places. That was my first foray.”

For Rose, the movie was a trip down memory lane. An admitted Hulkamaniac growing up, she was fully transfixed by the 1980s larger-than-life figure. “I knew going into it how much all these characters meant to the fans because they were my heroes,” Rose said. “Up until my parents told me I had to stop watching because me and my brother would wrestle each other. They were like, “I don’t know if we want you watching this anymore.”
Starzyk makes no bones about the fact she did not watch wrestling, know wrestling, and even had those preconceived notions about it. The cynical perspective softened as she became more immersed and went down the proverbial rabbit hole. Now Starzyk considers herself a fan with a newfound respect for the craft.
“It’s live theater, it’s so dynamic, so electric. These performers need to know the choreography and work together. There is showmanship and costumes. I feel it’s a gift getting to know wrestling now. I enjoyed all that. Not to mention we’re all in this with Sean. He was such a beloved fan of this and the story, so when you hear him talking when we first met. It touches people.”
The new admirer hit the ground running on costumes with her team. Her deep dive included watching Dark Side of the Ring, Heroes of World Class Wrestling, and sifting through the Von Erich’s photo albums. It’s where she got a sense of the vibe, presentation, and feel for the time and atmosphere. Another source was binging 13 seasons of the classic TV series Dallas.
Rose had her own experiences being from Houston and spending time on the family ranch in Buffalo, Texas. She knew, when it came to things like hair for example, people in Dallas wore their hair different than in other cities and regions.
“It’s not the 1980s where everyone is glammed up or done up. Out in the country, [the Von Erich’s] were rock stars, but weren’t done all up the same way…They didn’t do their hair like when you see the 1970s or 1980s portrayed. It was about keeping that authenticity.”
A24
When it comes to period pieces, authenticity is key. And this trio knew they wanted to get it painstakingly right. For Favorule, the baseline was the understanding that these were real people. The challenge was to show the change in years and look visually. But with so much bandwidth, it was about finding the middle ground. Quality photos also weren’t the best. This made it harder to zoom in on the little things.
“Did the guys shave their legs? What’s the tan situation like? We’re getting into the nitty gritty,” Favorule explained. “…Zac, Jeremy, and Harris multiple times have told the story where during our camera test Zac and Jeremy meet for the first time and Jeremy is in my chair and my key Courtney is on the ground full body shaving Jeremy. As Zac walks in to introduce himself, everyone starts laughing because this is the world we’re going to be in the next few months. So get ready.”
A few liberties here and there have to be taken in the world of cinema. However, when it came to all aspects of pro wrestling, the team was thankful to have great experts on set at all times. The pro wrestlers themselves include consultant Chavo Guerrero, who brings a wealth of knowledge from his own time in the ring but on the sets of GLOW and Young Rock. He also portrays Edward “The Sheik” Farhat in the film.
“He taught me how they tuck in their laces of boots or where a knee pad should feel,” Starzk said. “[The wrestlers] were so open to wanting to dress up as people they admired as well. The clothes fit differently than back then. Especially, with our main boys. The Von Erich trunks were higher and worn up to their belly button where now they wear them down. Zac would want to pull them up where we’re like, ‘No, it’s down.’ We met in the model where it should fit on the body.
She continued: “When Chavo put on The Sheik trunks, he was like this is the most covered I think I’ve ever been almost a big diaper with a camel on it. They were so much fun to work with because they were such decent people and wanted the film to be a hit as well.”
MJF and The Iron Claw
Other familiar faces fans may know who helped on set were Ryan Nemeth (Gino Hernandez) and Brady Pierce (Michael Hayes), and of course, AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (Lance Von Erich). All three speak highly of MJF, describing a different side of him many may not see away from the bright lights of the arenas. Favorule recalls one particular moment when Durkin let his mega fan flag wave.
“We spent a day with him in the trailer testing out hair and makeup making sure we brought the character to life. Natalie and her team were working on wig stuff and Sean was like, ‘How is he? Can I go in there and say hi?’ He was so excited to get in there with him. MJF was the loveliest. He was so excited to be there. That energy transcended every department.”
Starzyk added: “Maxwell was a total blast on set. I watched him before and was like, “I got to get the answer on this Burberry scarf. He had just won the title and it had this Burberry print on his belt because you can customize the belts.
He was delightful and a blast, funny, professional, and rolled with it… He even asked to keep this purple jumpsuit.”
The three were individually touched by the finished product. “It’s easy to get swept up in these emotional performances because they are so real and true,” Favorule said. “Getting to see it, I remember being in Dallas and looking at the screen it’s so easy to nitpick your work. Then these big emotional scenes come up and then that washes away and I‘m focused on this film…Being able to be part of the story that means so much to so many people, I looked back at my fiancée, and she had tears streaming down. She was like, “I think I need to call my brothers. It was that sort of film. I think everyone will take something different from it.
Starzyk was moved by Kevin Von Erich, not only by his touching story but how he has weathered the black cloud of tragedy. Despite the loss of so much of his family, the Hall of Famer has somehow persevered. “He had to overcome so much, I have so much admiration for him,” she said. “I said that to him at the premiere and he was like, ‘I’m a regular guy and stuff happened to me.’ That’s the person he is. It’s a choice to wrestle barefoot, be Zen, and move to Hawaii. Those things give him a sense of being grounded.”
Getting confirmation of a job well done by the family also filled Rose’s heart. It also was a further motivator and source of inspiration.
“While we were shooting Kerry’s daughters came up to me. We also had Kevin’s sons. “They were like, “That’s what dads’ hair looked like. That meant a lot to me that we did it right and did it justice.”

“I had CM Punk as a special guest on APFC, the weekend before they [WWE] announced his comeback. He didn’t say nothing about it. So we were hanging out in APFC chilling. Nate Diaz was there, Frank Mir was there, Rampage Jackson was there, Yair Rodriguez, we had a squad in walk. You know this is a dope event. And he didn’t say nothing about it bro.
“One of the most humblest guys you ever meet and one of the hardest-working guys you ever met. I was very excited for him. I text him right away and I think his response was ‘Let’s take over the world brother’ and I’m like ‘Yeah let’s go man!’ It’s awesome.”
