Samoa Joe Wins WWE NXT Title At TakeOver 36

0

The highly anticipated first-ever match between Samoa Joe and Karrion Kross for the NXT Title took place in the main event of the WWE NXT TakeOver 36 event.

The match was a strong showing for both men with them getting plenty of offense. Joe looked like he hadn’t missed a beat inside of the ring. Joe with the muscle buster for the win and to become the NXT Champion.

Joe was favored to win the championship considering Kross made his main roster debut last despite some questionable booking after losing to Jeff Hardy. Kross is slated to be on the Raw roster going forward, but without Scarlett.

Joe hadn’t wrestled since February 2020 due to concussion issues. He was working as a commentator for the Raw brand until he was released by WWE this past April. Fast forward to June, Joe returned as an on-screen authority figure for NXT and also worked in the talent scouting department in NXT.

Joe was supposed to keep order for NXT General Manager William Regal, but when Kross choked out Joe after retaining his title over Johnny Gargano then attacked Regal the following week, that was enough to make Joe snap and demand to be allowed to wrestle again.

Joe wanted Regal to sign a contract to have him back as an active in-ring performer in NXT and sign a contract for the match at TakeOver. Regal agreed to what Joe was offering and made the match official.

Kross won the title back from Finn Balor at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver – Night 2 this past April.

Ilja Dragunov Wins WWE NXT UK Title At TakeOver 36

0

A rematch of one of 2020’s best matches took place with WWE NXT UK Champion WALTER defending the strap against Ilja Dragunov at Saturday’s (August 22, 2021) WWE NXT TakeOver 36 event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center on the Peacock.

The match was stiff and hard-hitting just as expected. The chops sounded like gunshots. WALTER dominated early until Ilja made his comeback. Not only did IIja win, but he did it with a sleeper.

Their first match saw WALTER defeat Dragunov on NXT UK last October to retain the NXT United Kingdom Championship, which was highly praised. Since then, in storyline,  Dragunov has struggled with temper issues, but managed to get it under control.

In June, Dragunov defeated Rampage Brown and Joe Coffey in a triple threat match on NXT UK to be set up as the next challenger for WALTER’s Title. Post-match, WALTER came to the ring and attacked Dragunov.

The match was supposed to take place on the Thursday, July 22 episode of NXT UK, but since WALTER suffered an injury, it got delayed to this show.

WALTER had been the NXT United Kingdom Champion since winning the strap from Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: New York in 2019.

Raquel Gonzalez Retains Women’s Title At WWE NXT TakeOver 36

0

After weeks of building to it, WWE NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez vs. Dakota Kai finally took place at Sunday’s (August 22, 2021) WWE NXT TakeOver 36 event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center on the Peacock.

The match was second on the card with both girls shining. Kai took a nasty bump from the top rope to the rampway. Gonzalez hit her finisher off the middle rope for the win.

It all started when Kai turned against Gonzalez by laying her out with a kick in late July. Kai later explained her actions when she called Gonzalez selfish for going after the NXT Women’s Championship when it should have been Kai’s opportunity. She also didn’t appreciate Gonzalez taking the spotlight from her.

At TakeOver: Stand & Deliver this April, Gonzalez won the NXT Women’s Championship by defeating Io Shirai. Since that time, Gonzalez had successful title defenses against Mercedes Martinez, Ember Moon, and Xia Li.

WWE holds the fallout episode from this show of NXT on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if WWE continues this feud or goes in a different direction. Either way, they put on one heck of a match that delivered.

What are your thoughts on Raquel retaining the Women’s Title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.

Nick Khan: More Hours Of Programming Benefits WWE

0

Nick Khan says WWE would get even more TV time if it was up to him.

One of the criticisms WWE has received from fans has to do with the number of hours their content takes up per week. Some believe that the quality of Monday Night Raw has suffered ever since extending to three hours back in July 2012.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Khan, the President and CRO of WWE, said he’d add even more hours if he could due to the money it brings in.

“From my point of view, Raw would benefit from being four hours, so we would get paid more money and SmackDown would be eight hours,” said Khan.

“But I understand that our creative folks, as amazing as they are, there is only so much great content they can do on a weekly basis. So, I’m good with the three and two system.”

Khan dished out a ton of info over SummerSlam weekend. He detailed the reason behind the recent slew of WWE releases. Nick Khan also confirmed the report that NXT will be rebranded and is going to shift away from indie talent.

Cameron Grimes Wins Million Dollar Title At WWE NXT TakeOver 36

0

LA Knight vs. Cameron Grimes had their third match at the WWE NXT TakeOver 36 event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center.

The bout had the WWE Million Dollar Championship on the line with the stipulation that if Grimes lost then Ted Ted Dibiase would become Knight’s new butler.

This opened the show. It was a fast-paced bout that resulted in Grimes hitting Knight with the double foot stomp. Near the end, the WWE Hall of Famer even got in some shots on Knight.

Grimes had been Knight’s butler in storyline since he lost to Knight for the title at NXT Great American Bash last month. Their first match took place t NXT TakeOver: In Your House this June where Grimes was unsuccessful in challenging for the Million Dollar Championship while battling Knight in a ladder match.

After TakeOver: In Your House, Knight turned against DiBiase and attacked him. Two weeks ago, Knight walked out on Grimes during a tag team match against The Grizzled Young Veterans, which led to DiBiase to come out and try to tell Grimes to get out of being Knight’s butler.

Last week, Knight defeated Andre Chase and following the match, DiBiase challenged Knight to give Grimes another shot at the title, but the only way Knight would agree is if DiBiase agreed to his stipulation.

Nikki Bella Criticizes Booking Of Bianca Belair’s SummerSlam Loss

0

Nikki Bella is not a fan of how the SmackDown Women’s Championship reign of Bianca Belair came to an end.

Last night (Aug. 21), WWE SummerSlam took place inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Belair was expected to put her gold on the line against Sasha Banks. Wrestling Inc. reported that Banks was off the card and WWE ended up having Becky Lynch replace her as a surprise.

Fans didn’t get much of a match, however. Lynch extended her hand to Belair but ended up taking a cheap shot followed by a pumphandle for the three-count. The match lasted about 27 seconds.

During a post-SummerSlam event, Nikki Bella made it clear that she wasn’t happy with the finish to Belair vs Lynch.

https://twitter.com/Tessflocker/status/1429543693799800834

“I can tell you what wasn’t my favorite moment and it was when she lost [points over to Bianca Belair, who was also at the event]. That definitely was not my favorite moment. I don’t actually know if I had a favorite moment, because, you know, I’ve always backed the women and always for the women.

“You have someone like Bianca, who is such an incredible talent and you can’t help but get frustrated when you see moments like that of like, a championship that meant so much and was lost within seconds. So, I have to admit, for this SummerSlam, there truly wasn’t anything that was my favorite moment.”

Belair recently commented on the quick loss, saying she was glad to be a part of the moment. Belair vowed to get the SmackDown Women’s Championship back in the future.

Samoa Joe Reacts To Changes Coming To NXT

0

Samoa Joe has weighed in on the changes that will be coming to the NXT brand.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestler Observer was the first to report that NXT will be overhauled. This applies to a new logo, new lighting, and a new feel to the brand. It’s also been noted that WWE will be taking NXT more in the direction of a developmental system rather than a third major brand.

WWE President and CRO, Nick Khan, confirmed the report during an interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport. Khan also confirmed that NXT will be shifting away from indie talent in order to focus on younger talent elsewhere.

Samoa Joe, who will be competing for the NXT Championship tonight (Aug. 22) at TakeOver 36, spoke to Wrestling Inc. on the upcoming changes.

“Absolutely, it always changes. This is the thing that really is a touch confusing about the ‘NXT is changing’ thing. It’s never been the same thing its entire existence. From when I entered NXT to now, it’s been drastically different, it’s changed so much.

“The athlete, the stars that have come from NXT have completely shifted over from 4,3,2,1 year ago. To see this big vale of surprise that things are changing in NXT, it’s just yet another evolution of NXT and it will change again and after that it will change yet again. I’m failing to see the uproar when NXT is essentially doing what it has always done and what it will continue to do in the future.”

Joe had been released by WWE back in April. He was brought back in short order to work on the NXT brand. Recently, Joe was able to get medical clearance to return to the ring.

Where do you think Samoa Joe will fit in once the changes to NXT are in effect?

Nick Khan Confirms NXT Rebrand, Distancing From Indie Wrestlers

0

Nick Khan has confirmed reports of NXT receiving a significant makeover.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that major changes are coming to the NXT brand over TakeOver 36. Meltzer said that fans can expect new lighting, a new logo, and an overall different feel to the brand soon. On top of that, Meltzer has said that the idea is to treat NXT as the developmental system, rather than the third brand. He claimed the focus will shift from smaller indie wrestlers to bigger and younger talent.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Nick Khan said that fans can expect a new experience with NXT in the coming weeks.

“We’re doing a complete revamp on NXT, led by Triple H, Paul Levesque, who’s really one of the architects of the original NXT. What we found, it’s probably why we did the tryout yesterday, what we want to make sure is easy for folks who want to be WWE superstars is figuring out how to become WWE superstars. If you think of the life of an elevated athlete throughout their career, the opportunity to go play somewhere has always been easy, being able to play somewhere is not.

“In terms of an NXT rebrand, look for it in the upcoming weeks, it’s going to have a whole new look, it’s going to have a whole new feel, and we believe because of a lot of the ‘indie wrestlers’ if you will, have come through our system, and are in our system with SmackDown and RAW now. We don’t want to keep doing that same thing, we want to look elsewhere for great young talent.”

TakeOver 36 takes place tonight (Aug. 22). Samoa Joe will challenge Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship. Also set for the card is a two-out-of-three falls match between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly. This could be Cole’s final match with NXT as his brief contract extension is set to expire.

Nick Khan Explains Recent String Of WWE Releases

0

WWE President and CRO, Nick Khan, has given his explanation for the wave of WWE releases.

Fans were surprised when news broke that Braun Strowman was let go from his contract earlier this year. After all, Strowman won the WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania 36 and defeated Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 37.

Aleister Black was also released, despite having just started an angle with Big E. He has since signed with AEW as Malakai Black. There were more names on the list, including Murphy, Lana, Ruby Riott, and Santana Garrett.

The real shocker, however, came when “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt received his walking papers. Those releases were just part of this year’s wave as 12 NXT talents including Bronson Reed and Bobby Fish were later cut as well.

Ariel Helwani of BT Sport spoke to Khan, who gave his take on the number of roster cuts WWE has been making.

“I don’t know that there’s one explanation for it. I think ultimately what’s looked at is, is this person for us going to move the needle now or in the imminent future? By the way, we had a two-day tryout in Las Vegas which ended yesterday, which Triple H and Johnny Laurinaitis and Bruce Prichard were all across as were the rest of us. We’ve signed over a dozen new talent coming out of that tryout and I’m not suggesting, ‘oh that’s why we cut the other talent,’ but we’re always looking for what’s next.

“We live in the present, we live in the future, we don’t live in the past. So when people leave and they move on with their life and their careers, that’s good by us. For us, it’s what works for us and our product at that moment and time and again what’s gonna work down the road, and largely in part the existing roster is based on that.”

People on social media often blame Khan whenever WWE releases are announced these days. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that the NXT cuts had nothing to do with Khan and that it was Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, and John Laurinaitis who collectively made the call.

Many have speculated that the releases have been done in an effort to make WWE look as attractive as possible when it comes to a potential sale. Nick Khan stirred the pot with his “open for business” line but he later said the company isn’t looking to sell.

Original Plans for Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns feud

0

WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar made a shocking return to the company this weekend at the WWE SummerSlam 2021 PPV event. Lesnar appeared following the main event of the show, confronting Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

The plan now is for the two men to feud heading into the rest of the year, with the added storyline incentive of Paul Heyman in the mix adding more intrigue on top of a face Lesnar and heel Reigns feud.

According to Dave Meltzer, the original plan for Roman and Lesnar was for the feud to actually take place in 2023, with the two men meeting in the main event of that year’s WrestleMania.

Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns

Meltzer reported as such on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio show, claiming that WWE wanted to have Roman vs The Rock in 2022 and Roman vs Lesnar the year after.

It was not confirmed when these plans were changed, however with AEW bringing CM Punk back to pro wrestling, it appears as though both sides will be looking to fire on all cylinders.

Meltzer did not confirm when the first Lesnar vs Reigns match for the Universal Championship will be taking place in 2021, however, the Survivor Series 2021 PPV is likely the destination for the first bout.

The Rock will reportedly be a major element of the Survivor Series event, as it marks the 25 anniversary of his WWE debut as Rocky Maivia.

Bray Wyatt ‘Fiend’ Sign Confiscated At WWE SummerSlam

0

Bray Wyatt was released from WWE on July 31st, but that hasn’t prevented fans from supporting the former WWE Champion at live events. WWE sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world when they announced Wyatt ‘s contract was terminated after 11 years with the company.

“We want Wyatt” chants have been audible at WWE TV tapings since his departure. During Sunday’s SummerSlam kickoff show, a large Fiend sign was shown at ringside. It did not take long for security to approach the fan and confiscate the sign, which incorporated the Fiend mask into the Las Vegas Raiders logo.

Bray Wyatt’s Future

Bray Wyatt’s 90-day non-compete clause runs through the last week of October. He will be unable to work for other wrestling companies until then, but it is believed he’ll be joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

The night CM Punk returned to wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance, Bray Wyatt posted an Eddie Van Halen Quote on Twitter. Many wrestling fans are interpreting this as another indication that we have not seen the last of Bray Wyatt inside the squared circle.

Bianca Belair Gives First Reaction To Disheartening SummerSlam Loss

0

Bianca Belair suffered what can only be described as a disheartening loss at the SummerSlam PPV where she lost the SmackDown women’s championship to a returning Becky Lynch in a quick match.

The now-former champion gave her first reaction to this loss at the PPV while speaking to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture at the SummerSlam after party.

Bianca explained that she is still trying to collect her thoughts on the development. While she said that she is happy to be part of the big moment involving Becky’s return, Belair also admitted that she is feeling defeated:

“Right now, I’m just trying to collect my thoughts and get my mind together. Everything happened quickly and so fast. I was ready to fight Sasha Banks, and Becky came out, which was an amazing moment and I’m happy to be part of that moment,

But I lost my title and right now, I’m just emotional and trying to wrap my mind around it.” said Bianca Belair, “I have to be honest, I feel defeated right now and okay with being vulnerable and being honest about that. I’m ready to get my title back.”

The former SmackDown star was then asked how she felt hearing Lynch’s music at the show. Replying to it, she said that it was a bittersweet feeling and she couldn’t help and be a little sad about the situation.

While Bianca Belair kept her first reaction respectful and didn’t blame anyone, the wrestling world doesn’t seem to be very happy with the treatment she got at the show. You can check out some of the top reactions to her loss here.

WWE & 2K Relationship Strained Due To WWE 2K22 Delay (Report)

0

It was announced recently that the WWE 2K22 video game will not be released until March of next year. After WWE 2K20 was poorly reviewed by fans and critics, no WWE 2K21 game was released last year. Typically, the game had been released in October each year.

According to a report from Sports Gamers Online, the delay of the game and other decisions relating to it has led to a strained relationship between WWE and the developers.

“Most of those within WWE wanted the game to release in its normal Survivor Series window. Those from 2K Sports and Visual Concepts, on the other hand, pushed hard for a delay of the launch,” wrote Michael Straw.

Roster Cuts Impacting Game Development

One factor said to have played a role in the delay is the recent roster cuts. This version of the game is being rebuilt from the ground up. This means that many wrestlers have had new character models created. Several wrestlers that had been scanned and had their character models created are now no longer with the company, however.

“This is shaping up to be the most outdated roster a game has seen,” a source told Sports Gamer Media.

This report is consistent with previous reports that an internal memo in WWE reportedly requested that Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan be removed from the game.

WWE Upset With Response To WWE 2K20

WWE was reportedly quite upset with the response to the 2K20 game. They reportedly hinted to game developers that they could move forward with a new company instead.

“It was like threats to cancel cable,” one person said. “Threats would come out of them claiming to have interest from one company here or there. I don’t know how credible that was though, or just idle threats.”

The developers who spoke with the outlet say they are trying to do everything they can to make the best game possible.

“We are fans and gamers like everyone out there,” one developer said. “We are doing everything we possibly can to make the wrestling game fans want. From modes to how it feels in the ring, we want this to be the wrestling fan’s wrestling game.”

AJ Lee (AJ Mendez) Reacts To CM Punk’s AEW Debut

0

CM Punk was officially fired from WWE on June 13, 2014, the same day that he married AJ Mendez (FKA AJ Lee). He made his return to pro-wrestling on August 20th, 2021 in Chicago’s United Center.

Now Punk’s spouse of 7+ years, AJ Lee commented on his AEW debut.

Will AJ Lee Return To Wrestling?

With CM Punk returning to pro-wrestling at the First Dance, many fans are wondering if a return could be in the cards for AJ as well. She hasn’t wrestled since the night after WrestleMania 31 in 2015. She teamed with Paige at Mania that year and defeated the Bella Twins. AJ then teamed with Paige and Naomi the next night and defeated the Bellas and Natalya.

Last year, Paige mentioned she would like to wrestle AJ again someday.

Big E Says AJ Lee Could Work WWE’s “Brock Lesnar” Schedule

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Big E spoke about AJ Lee. He said that she’s a legend who could come back and work a “Brock Lesnar schedule” in WWE.

“If she wants it, of course, there very easily is a massive place for her,” said Big E. “And it’s weird, I feel like she’s in this legend territory where she comes back and she gets a massive pop. She can have a Brock Lesnar-type schedule if she wanted to and work a few times a year. So, if it’s something she wants, of course, there’s a place for her.”

Wrestling World Reacts To Bianca Belair’s 25-Second Loss To Becky Lynch

0

Becky Lynch returned to WWE last night at SummerSlam. Shortly after it was announced that Sasha Banks was not cleared to compete, Carmella was revealed as Bianca Belair’s new title challenger on the show. Before the match could begin, however, Lynch’s music hit and she promptly tossed Carmella out of the ring.

An impromptu match between Lynch and Belair then commenced. Lynch went to shake Belair’s hand, then punched her in the face and gave her The Man-Handle Slam for the quick pin. The match lasted a total of 25 seconds.

Several wrestlers and personalities from the world of wrestling sent out Tweets and social media posts in the moments following the quick match.

Comedian Ron Funches went through a range of emotions last night.

Fan reactions to Becky Lynch Beating Bianca Belair In 25 Seconds

Several fans posted Tweets about the match result as well. Many fans are comparing the quick loss to Kofi Kingston losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar.

Others are noting that Lynch’s actions last night could indicate she’s turning heel:

TV Insider’s Scott Fishman believes both Belair and Lynch were put in impossible situations.

Becky Lynch Comments On SummerSlam Return

0

Becky Lynch made her triumphant return to WWE during the SummerSlam PPV. The Man went on to reclaim her throne and won the SmackDown women’s championship during her comeback.

The new champion was interviewed backstage after the show. She was asked how it feels to be back. She responded by saying: “The Man is back, and it feels good!”

Reports of Sasha Banks potentially being pulled from SummerSlam had come out a few weeks before the show but officials did not confirm it until the day of the event.

The match was still on until Bianca Belair made her entrance. She was only informed after she got in the ring that the boss will not be able to compete on the show.

It was then announced that Carmella will be replacing the former women’s champion in the SummerSlam match. Carmella came out for the fight but Becky Lynch made her return before the bout could start.

Lynch got in the ring and attacked Carmella. She replaced Carmella in the women’s championship match and Becky ended up defeating Belair in a quick fashion.

Other notable moments from the show include another massive return and multiple other title changes. You can check out the complete SummerSlam result at this link.

Watch Brock Lesnar Attack John Cena After SummerSlam Went Off Air

0

Brock Lesnar made his surprise return after the SummerSlam main event where Roman Reigns defeated John Cena. The Beast Incarnate received a massive pop from the audience on his comeback.

The former world champion confronted Reigns on the show but the tribal chief backed out from a fight. The event ended with the former world champion standing tall in the ring while a shocked Roman Reigns retreated to the stage.

Though while Lesnar didn’t get the fight he was looking for with Reigns, it didn’t stop him from getting physical after SummerSlam.

As seen in the video below, Brock ended up attacking John Cena after the cameras went off air. He delivered multiple suplexes to Cena before finishing things with an F5:

https://twitter.com/x_Beast17_x/status/1429296766659223554

Since the events took place after SummerSlam went off air, it’s hard to say if they mean anything for the future and if we are gonna see Cena and Lesnar coming face to face anytime soon.

One thing that seems to be confirmed is that we are going to get the inevitable rematch between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar very soon. It would be interesting to see which side Paul Heyman takes in this battle.

The PPV featured another massive return apart from Brock Lesnar and included multiple big title changes. You can check out the full SummerSlam results here.

Styles rolled out of the ring and slammed on the announce table out of frustration before tagging in Omos. Riddle ran towards Omos but it backfired and he shoved him to the canvas. Omos lifted Riddle up for a bit before sending him to the canvas with a massive Body Slam.

AJ tagged back in applied a Headlock to Riddle in the middle of the ring. Styles connected with a Backbreaker and started taunting Orton on the apron. Riddle escaped and leaped across the ring to tag in Orton. Randy leveled Styles with a Clothesline and bashed Omos in the face.

Orton hit AJ with a Powerslam and booted Omos off the apron. Randy planted Styles with the draping DDT and set up for the RKO but Omos dragged AJ out of the ring. Omos delivered a Chokeslam to Riddle on the ring apron as Styles got back into the ring.

Riddle shoved Omos into the ring post but Styles hit Riddle with a beautiful reverse DDT outside the ring. AJ set up for the Phenomenal Forearm but Orton got out of the way. Randy went for the RKO but Styles countered into a roll-up. Orton kicked out and planted Styles with an RKO for the pinfall. RK-Bro are the new RAW Tag Team Champions.

Alexa Bliss def. Eva Marie

Alexa Bliss faced Eva Marie tonight on SummerSlam. Doudrop was ringside and Lilly was in the corner. Eva slammed Alexa to the mat and started slapping Lilly. Bliss got annoyed and leveled Eva with a Clothesline. Bliss followed it up with a Senton and started petting Lilly. Alexa gave Lilly a kiss as Eva and Doudrop were arguing because Doudrop wouldn’t take the doll.

Bliss bounced Eva’s face off the bottom turnbuckle and made her way to the top rope. Alexa went for Twisted Bliss but Eva got out of the way. Eva went for the cover but Bliss was able to kick out at two. Alexa then planted Eva with a DDT for the pinfall victory as Doudrop laughed. Doudrop didn’t help Eva Marie up and grabbed a microphone. Doudrop announced that this match was lost by Eva Marie. Doudrop took Eva’s robe and started posing as the crowd cheered her on.

Damian Priest Is The New US Champion

Sheamus defended the United States Championship against Damian Priest tonight. Sheamus dominated early but Damian responded with a big elbow to the face. Priest connected with a sitout Falcon Arrow for a near fall and then knocked the US Champion out of the ring.

Priest went for a springboard flip and came up a bit short. Sheamus tried to brace him but Damian landed hard on his back on the floor outside the ring. Opinion: It sure looked like Damian Priest got banged up and was still able to put on a hell of match with Sheamus. They both worked their ass off and I thought that this was the match of the night so far.

Bianca Belair was set to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks but she could not compete tonight. Carmella was announced as the replacement and the crowd booed as they were hopeful for the return of Becky Lynch. However, right before the bell rang Becky Lynch’s theme hit and The Man returned to a great reaction.

Becky booted Carmella in the ribs and threw her out of the ring. Lynch slammed Carmella into the steel steps and stood across from Belair int he ring. The crowd chanted “yes” and Becky asked for a microphone. Becky challenged Bianca Belair to a match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and Bianca accepted.

Lynch bashed Belair with a cheap shot after extending her hand for a handshake. Becky followed it up with a Uranage for the pinfall victory. Becky Lynch is the new SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Opinion: Becky Lynch is incredible and it is awesome to see her back. However, I couldn’t stand this. I have no problem with Becky walking out of SummerSlam with the title but I don’t get why Bianca Belair was made look like a goof in the process after building her up so much. I’m sure this will lead to a rivalry but the way this match went down soured the moment for me.

Woods Interrupted Miz & Morrison

John Morrison and The Miz came to the ring and spoke about the 50,000 fans in attendance were all “hurtin for a squirtin” in the words of John Morrison. Xavier Woods interrupted with a big jug water strapped to his back and his hair styled like Razor Ramon/Scott Hall. Woods sprayed Morrison and Miz with water and they flopped around.

The WWE Champion grabbed a chair and beat Goldberg down with it as the crowd appeared to enjoy it as they were chanting “thank you Lashley!”. Gage Goldberg rushed into the ring and Bobby applied the Hurt Lock to him. MVP broke it up and grabbed a microphone. MVP shouted that there is no way that Lashley could have known that was Goldberg’s son and the two left the ring as Goldberg checked on Gage.

Opinion: As Jim Ross would say, this match was bowling shoe ugly. Goldberg looked to be in incredible shape but also appeared to have no control over his limbs during certain portions of this match. I don’t know how else to explain it. He was taking moves to the midsection and somehow landing on his head. It also looks like WWE has set up a potential rematch as well with what happened after the match. I’d like to think that the next encounter between the two won’t be a longer match focused around Goldberg selling an injury.

Roman Reigns Retained, Brock Lesnar Returned

Roman Reigns defended the Universal Championship against John Cena in the main event of this year’s SummerSlam. Cena and Roman circled each other with smirks on their faces. They backed up and let the crowd takeover for bit before locking up in the middle of the ring.

After the match, Brock Lesnar’s theme hit and The Beast made his way to the ring. Heyman cowered to the corner as Brock circled the ring. Lesnar stood on top of the steps and then entered the ring with Reigns. Brock traded some words with the Universal Champion before backing away. Reigns exited the ring as the crowd booed. Lesnar nodded and bounced around in the ring as Reigns raised the Universal Championship to close the show.

Opinion: Reigns and Cena had a very good match to close the show and Brock Lesnar returning was an awesome moment. Overall, this year’s SummerSlam had some incredible moments and others that are hard to make sense of. Either way, it is an exciting time to be a wrestling fan.

Brock Lesnar Returns At WWE SummerSlam, Confronts Roman Reigns

0

Brock Lesnar finally made his WWE return after being away for over a year.

It happened at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event on Saturday night from Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium after Roman Reigns had successfully retained the WWE Universal Title over John Cena in the main event.

Lesnar, with a beard and new hairstyle, walked down to the ring as fans went nuts. He had a staredown with Reigns, who backed down and went to the backstage area with Paul Heyman at his side.

https://twitter.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1429294800440803332

After the show went off the air, Lesnar went on the attack and beat down Cena, who checked right into suplex city.

Lesnar was last seen when he lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36. Lesnar’s contract with WWE expired last August when the two sides didn’t come to terms on a new deal. This led to Lesnar’s merchandise being removed from the WWE Shop.

Back in June, it was originally reported WWE had plans in place for him and was hopeful his return could be imminent. That didn’t happen.

WWE didn’t have plans to book Lesnar against WWE Champion Bobby Lashley at this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event on Saturday, August 21 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada despite speculation and that ended up happening.

Roman Reigns Beats John Cena At WWE SummerSlam

0

WWE booked one of if not the biggest match possible for the main event of SummerSlam as John Cena challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Title.

The match had a slow start with a lot of mind games going on. Reigns beat Cena down for the majority of the match with Cena getting small parts of offense in. Cena with an AA for a near fall. Cena with the STF, but Reigns got to the bottom rope. Cena later hit an AA through the announce table.

Cena with an AA off the middle rope for a near fall. Reigns hit the spear for the win. Post-match, Brock Lesnar made his return.

Before this feud, Cena hadn’t been on WWE television since WrestleMania 36 where he took part in the Firefly Fun House match against Bray Wyatt. It was a trip down memory lane for Cena.

It wasn’t a normal match, but rather a series of segments where he went through all of his old gimmicks. The finish saw Wyatt hit Sister Abigail to Cena then choked him out with the Mandible Claw to end the match.

Cena has continued his Hollywood career while being away from WWE. He started serving as the host of TBS’ Wipeout series, filmed the second Suicide Squad movie, the Peacemaker series, and starred in the most recent Fast & Furious movie, F9.

Cena made his return at the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view event in Fort Worth, Texas at Dickies Arena where he told Reigns that he couldn’t see him. After weeks of Reigns declining Cena’s challenge for a match, “The Big Dog” finally granted it.

Bobby Lashley Defeats Goldberg At WWE SummerSlam

0

WWE didn’t give the fans Brock Lesnar, but they did bring back Goldberg to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Title in one of the top matches at SummerSlam.

The match, which took place in the co-main event of the show that was held from Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium on Peacock, was short as expected. Goldberg sold his knee throughout the match and that played a factor in the finish. In the end, Goldberg couldn’t stand so the referee called for the bell. After the match, Lashley hit Goldberg with a chair. Goldberg’s son tried to make the save, but he got put into the full nelson.

Goldberg made his return on the July 19th episode of WWE Raw to tell Lashley that he was next. While Lashley was ready to go, MVP wasn’t ready to give in just yet. That later changed and the match was booked.

Many fans thought Lesnar would be the right person to face Lashley at this show, but it’s been reported that WWE wanted to save Lesnar’s return for a WrestleMania match with Roman Reigns.

Nikki A.S.H vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley for the Raw Women’s Title in a triple threat match was booked at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium.

In the match, Flair had a strong showing. She hit an outside dive off the top rope. Nikki looked like she could put it away with a DDT to Ripley, but Ripley rolled to the floor. The finish came down to when Nikki missed a crossbody and Flair locked in the Figure Eight for the win.

This marks Charlotte Flair’s 6th reign as Raw Women’s Champion. She’s also a 5-time SmackDown Women’s Champion, a 2-time NXT Women’s Champion and was the final WWE Divas Champion.

WWE posted this video of Charlotte Flair reacting to her win at SummerSlam:

Raw Women’s Championship

Since Ripley beat Asuka to win the title in April at WrestleMania, she has been feuding with Charlotte Flair. Flair’s previous reign lasted just one day after beating Ripley for it at Money in the Bank.

Nikki A.S.H. became Raw Women’s Champion by cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase on Charlotte. She won the briefcase in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in July.

The following night, Ripley and Flair faced off in a rematch on Raw, but Charlotte intentionally got herself disqualified. Post-match, Ripley hit Riptide on Charlotte outside of the ring, which allowed Nikki to cash in her briefcase. She hit a top rope crossbody on Charlotte, and pinned her to win the Raw Women’s Championship.

Becky Lynch Returns To Win WWE SmackDown Women’s Title At SummerSlam

0

The rematch of the WrestleMania 37 night one main event between Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Title didn’t take place at SummerSlam. However, fans did get to see Becky Lynch make her return at SummerSlam in Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium.

WWE announced that Sasha Banks was not cleared to compete. She was replaced by Carmella, who just lost to Belair on Friday’s SmackDown. Belair cut a promo about how eventually she will get Banks and until then, she would beat Carmella. This led to Becky Lynch returning.

Lynch attacked Carmella and the match started after Lynch challenged Belair. Lynch punched Belair and hit a power slam for the win to win the title.

WWE posted this video of Becky Lynch reacting to her surprise return at SummerSlam:

There had been conflicting reports about the status of Banks vs. Belair for over the last week as both stars missed last weekend’s house shows for an unknown reason. It was reported that both stars were cleared for SummerSlam, but Banks wasn’t featured on Friday’s SmackDown.

Lynch had been away from WWE due to her being pregnant with her first child last year. She vacated the title. There had been reports that WWE could add a Bayley talk segment to WrestleMania 37 as it had been discussed when an idea of Lynch driving a big truck was brought up for her return.

It was later reported that the reason Lynch didn’t return at WrestleMania was due to her not being ready at the time.
