AEW Reportedly Wrote Off $30 Million On Fight Forever Video Game

AEW had to write off or write down at least $30 million tied to its Fight Forever video game, according to insider Mike Straw.

Straw, an established gaming reporter with a lengthy track record covering Fight Forever’s troubled development, said the write-down stemmed directly from the project’s development issues.

Straw pointed to two main factors. The game missed its original 2022 release window, pushing costs higher by the time it finally launched near Forbidden Door in 2023. Sales then landed at roughly half of what the company internally projected, compounding the shortfall.

On where things stand now, Straw said AEW still has interest in making games but nothing is currently in development, with any future project “way down the line.” AEW retains ownership of the Fight Forever engine and its assets, meaning the company could theoretically bring in a different developer down the road, though no agreement is in place to keep updating the existing game.

The report follows Nik Sobic’s exit from AEW in January, the executive who had overseen the Fight Forever project since the promotion’s 2019 inception.
