AEW Forbidden Door 2026 Preview: Matches, How To Watch

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2026 takes place Sunday, June 28, from the SAP Center in San Jose, California, headlined by a six-on-six steel cage match pitting MJF and the Don Callis Family against Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, Konosuke Takeshita, and the Conglomeration. It is the fifth annual Forbidden Door and the first co-promoted by CMLL and Stardom.

The card also hosts both Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals, with the winners earning world title shots at All In, plus a stack of interpromotional championship matches.

What to Know

  • Triple Main Event: A steel cage match, the Owen Hart Cup men’s final (Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay), and the women’s final (Mercedes Moné vs. Maya World) anchor the show.
  • Dream Matches: Kenny Omega vs. Zack Sabre Jr. headlines a crossover lineup spanning AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and Stardom.
  • How to Watch: Sunday, June 28, 8 p.m. ET, on pay-per-view via HBO Max, DAZN, Prime Video, PPV.com, and YouTube.

The Door Opens Again

Forbidden Door has grown from a one-off AEW and NJPW crossover into a four-promotion summer spectacle, and the 2026 edition adds CMLL and Stardom as official co-promoters for the first time. The night carries long-term stakes through the Owen Hart Cup, where both tournament finals feed directly into world title matches at All In in London on August 30.

It also lands on a crowded Sunday, sharing the date with TNA Slammiversary and NXT Great American Bash. AEW is countering with one of its deepest cards of the year.

Match Previews

Steel Cage Match: MJF & The Don Callis Family vs. Team Briscoe

The 12-man cage war serves as the main event, with a world title shot hanging on the result for Mark Briscoe.

  • The stakes: If Briscoe’s team wins, Briscoe earns an AEW World Championship match against MJF.
  • The teams: MJF sides with Kevin Knight, Kyle Fletcher, Kazuchika Okada, Jake Doyle, and Andrade El Idolo, while Briscoe brings Darby Allin, Konosuke Takeshita, and the Conglomeration trio of Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly.
  • The money angle: MJF reportedly bought the Callis Family’s services, with Knight signing on in exchange for his own promised title shot should the team win.
  • The grudges: Takeshita wants a piece of Fletcher and the Callis Family, while Allin is hunting Knight over a betrayal at Double or Nothing.
  • The wrinkle: MJF’s side has shown friction getting along, a potential crack in an otherwise loaded team.

Owen Hart Cup Men’s Final: Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay

Two of the company’s biggest stars meet with a future world title shot on the line in the men’s tournament final.

  • The prize: The winner takes the 2026 Owen Hart Cup and a world title match at All In to be cashed in at a time of their choosing.
  • The history: The two previously clashed at Forbidden Door in 2024 with the AEW World Championship at stake.
  • What’s at stake: A guaranteed path back to the top of the card for whoever advances.

  • The stakes: Pure bragging rights between two of the most decorated technicians in the sport.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Thekla (c) vs. Starlight Kid

Thekla’s running shots at Stardom come back on her in a defense against a challenger from her former home promotion.

AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Bandido

One of the rare all-AEW matches on the card pits Moxley against a challenger riding momentum.

  • What’s at stake: The AEW Continental Championship.

IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship: Shota Umino (c) vs. PAC

A New Japan title makes a rare appearance on US soil in a grudge match rooted overseas.
