Backstage News On Asuka’s WWE Status

ByAndrew RavensProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Asuka has not wrestled since May, and WWE is content to wait.

JoeyVotes and TC of WrestleVotes were asked about her situation in a Fightful Select Q&A, and both described a company with the door propped open.

I know they want her back. I know this is not a closed-door type of situation. When she’s ready, they’re ready to get her back.

She’s one of those that can pop up on a moment’s notice, and with her being back in the States, she’ll let them know, “Hey, I’m ready to work again,” and they’ll be happy to take her back.

Asuka’s last match was against IYO SKY at Backlash in May. There was no post-match angle, just an embrace and a wave to the crowd, and reporting afterwards pointed to an indefinite absence for personal reasons rather than an injury. That is a different situation from her previous spell out, when a knee problem sustained around Backlash France in 2024 required surgery and kept her off television for over a year before she returned in June 2025.

She has since posted a video that read like a goodbye without ever being one.

I’ve been with WWE for over 10 years now, almost like it was just a given. And because it became such a part of your daily routine, I think my presence there just became something everyone took for granted. But remember, nothing lasts forever. Everything is finite.

So from here on out, if you ever catch a glimpse of me, you better cherish it. Because it’s going to be rare. But don’t forget, I am still officially with WWE. So there’s a chance I might just pop up in front of you when you least expect it.
