Big Cass is back in WWE, and he picked one of the company’s youngest stars to announce it.
Cass returned on Monday’s Raw from Casey’s Center in Des Moines, attacking Je’Von Evans after Evans beat Ethan Page. It is his first WWE appearance since 2018.
The date was never a secret. WWE began airing vignettes on the July 13 Raw, each ending with 8/3, and the company followed through on the show after SummerSlam.
Enzo Amore was not part of it. Cass’s former tag team partner had been rumored to be coming back alongside him and was reportedly seen at the WWE Performance Center a couple of months ago, but he was absent on Monday and was not referenced in the vignettes beyond old footage of their split.
Cass, real name William Morrissey, was with WWE from 2011 until his release in 2018, spending most of it teamed with Amore. He signed with AEW in 2022 and worked as Big Bill for four years until his contract expired last month. He has spoken openly about getting sober during that run and was described by those around him as a positive presence backstage. WWE’s vignettes leaned on that recovery, positioning the return as a second chance.
He walks into a roster that has been shedding veterans and adding others. New Day and Sheamus have left WWE this year. Baron Corbin came back and won the United States Championship at SummerSlam on Sunday.
