The Big Cass return looked hostile on camera. Backstage, it was the opposite.
PWInsider reports Cass was in excellent spirits at Monday’s Raw in Des Moines and thrilled to be back after spending years rebuilding away from the company. People there described him as excited to have another opportunity on the WWE stage after eight years away.
The outlet adds that many congratulated him on his sobriety and were glad to have him back.
Cass addressed the eight years himself in a backstage interview on the show.
For eight years I was left for dead in the dirt. Eight years it took me to get back here from rock bottom.
He was less warm about the man he attacked, saying Je’Von Evans was in the way and nothing more, and that he had come back to stack bodies.
The mechanics were kept quiet until the last second. PWInsider reports Cass was hidden under the ring, and came out after Evans beat Ethan Page, dropping him with a boot and the East River Crossing. Stephanie Vaquer’s return the same night was protected the same way, with WWE booking her travel late and hiding her once she arrived.
Cass left WWE in 2018 and spent time on the independent circuit before signing with AEW in 2022, where he worked as Big Bill for four years. His contract there expired last month. WWE teased the return with vignettes from the July 13 Raw, each ending with the date 8/3.
His first target is one of the youngest wrestlers on the roster. Evans is 21.
