Brie Bella ‘Bummed’ With Booking of Her SmackDown Match

ByAnutosh BajpaiProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Brie Bella is bummed about how her SmackDown match went.

The WWE Hall of Famer competed in her first singles match in almost 8 years at last Friday’s episode of the Blue Branded Show. Not only did she lose the match to Lainey Reid, but the wrestling veteran also only got 3 minutes and 18 seconds to show that she can still hold on her own.

The female star discussed the whole thing on the latest episode of the Bellas podcast. Brie Bella mentioned that she had been asking for a singles match for a while, and she was bummed at hearing how much time they were getting for the bout:

I’ve been pitching for a while to have a singles match. I’ve been wanting it forever. So when I finally found out I was getting one, I was super excited. When I heard the time, I was bummed.

Brie Bella noted that she ultimately took the lack of time for her match in good spirits and joked about it backstage. The current tag team champion explained that she understands the difficulty of fitting all the stories with the show going back to two hours:

But I also understood. SmackDown is back to two hours, and it’ll be two hours until January. So all of a sudden, when you have all these storylines going on during a three-hour show and then, boom, you get cut down to two hours, you’re back to fighting for TV time. They’re going to have to condense a lot of stuff. So a part of me understood it. I mean, obviously I won’t lie—I was bummed.

The July 3 SmackDown featured 3 other matches with all of them getting atleast 8 minutes. The longest bout of the night was Cody Rhodes vs. Jey Uso at 15 minutes and 31 seconds.
