Brody King's Advocacy: 'There's A Lot Of Wrong Happening'

Brody King has opened up about his decision to wear an 'Abolish ICE' t-shirt at AEW Grand Slam Mexico and his ongoing advocacy for marginalized communities. The former AEW Tag Team and Trios Champion wore the shirt during a multi-man tag team match at Arena México on June 18, 2025.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo, King explained his motivation for using his platform to speak out on social issues.

I feel like when I was younger I always wanted somebody that felt like me on TV or wherever to express the way that they felt so I can have someone to champion for me," King said. "And if I can be that for other people that are being marginalized then I want to be that for them.

Speaking Out Against Injustice

King emphasized that his stance isn't about politics, but about right and wrong. He also cited Mick Foley as another wrestler who uses his platform similarly.

Everyone tries to bring up the political thing, in my opinion, it's just what's right and what's wrong," he continued. "And there's a lot of wrong happening in the world and if I can speak out against it then I will. And you know we got guys like Mick Foley who also do the same thing.

Following the Grand Slam Mexico event, King released 'Abolish ICE' shirts for sale, raising over $27,000 for families affected by ICE raids. In a post-show media scrum, King explained that speaking out on injustices aligns with his punk rock background and that he appreciates AEW allowing wrestlers to have their voice.

Reflecting On Fan Response

King reflected on the attention his shirt received and how fan reactions have evolved over time.

I wore the Abolish ICE shirt at Arena Mexico almost a year ago, I think it was June of last year, and the chants happened this year right before Australia," King recalled. "It got a lot of attention for the shirt and then out of nowhere kind of picked up more attention.

He continued, "Obviously the state of things gets more boiled over, people are frustrated and that's going to come out in certain ways, and I can't think of a more positive way for it to come out than them chanting it at a wrestling show."

King also addressed viral chants during his match against MJF, noting the moment took him off guard but energized him.

It took me off guard," he admitted. "But I also felt like I could run through a wall at that moment.
