CM Punk is WWE Champion again.
The Straight Edge Star made his much-anticipated return at tonight’s episode of Raw after weeks of speculation and rumors. He replaced Cody Rhodes in the WWE Championship main event match against Sami Zayn after the American Nightmare was taken out by Gunther earlier in the night.
The wrestling veteran went on to win the title from Zayn after using Sami’s Helluva Kick against him and then delivering a GTS. This ended Sami Zayn’s reign with the belt at just 9 days.
What Happened After Raw
The new Champion stayed in the arena after his title victory, taking his time to celebrate with the hometown crowd. While AJ Lee was not in the building for his win, CM Punk paid tribute to her by doing the skipping routine of his wife before greeting his family members who were at ringside:
The former AEW star also recreated the famous title in the fridge picture after winning the WWE Championship in his hometown once again, with the 15th anniversary of his Money In The Bank win being around the corner.
It’s likely we will see Cody Rhodes confronting Punk following his missed shot in near future. There is no word on where this leaves Sami Zayn and we will have to wait to see what WWE has planned for him after tonight’s loss.
