Has Cody Rhodes finally snapped?
The main event segment of tonight’s SmackDown saw The American Nightmare calling out Randy Orton for a face-to-face. What he got was Baron Corbin instead, who ended up attacking Cody after a back-and-forth on the mic.
Rhodes called for a referee to make the fight officially a match, and he quickly got the upper hand over the former US Champion after the bell. This is when The Viper finally showed up, pulling his former protégé out of the ring and brawling him around the ringside area.
Cody Rhodes Hits The Punt
Randy then put the former AEW star back in the ring and got ready for the punt kick, only for Rhodes to counter with a Cody Cutter. The attack put Orton in the perfect position for eating a punt himself, and Cody appeared to make up his mind for it, only for Corbin to get back into the fight.
Corbin’s attack allowed Orton to slip out of the ring. Though Cody Rhodes did not end the night on his back as he managed to get out of an End of Days attempt from Baron Corbin. After some thought, he finally hit the punt on Corbin as Randy watched from the stage to end the show.
The hesitation to hit the punt is what cost Cody his match against his former mentor at Sunday Night’s Main Event last month. Now the question is if finally hitting the kick is an indication of Rhodes ‘ willingness to go the extra mile in his current feud or a sign of him turning to the dark side for good in coming times.
